Three years ago she was left in pieces . . .
Most college freshmen love the newfound freedom of living on campus, but none of them craves it like Beth Caplan. One ill-fated night when she was fifteen left her locked in a posh prison of private tutors. It's for the best, everyone said, and maybe it was. But after years of hard work and healing, the one person who never thought of her as broken could be the one to break her all over again. And Beth can't seem to stay away now any more than she could all those years ago.

As soon as David March learned his best friend's little sister was enrolling at his school, he promised to look after her, and promised himself he'd keep a safe distance. But the sweet little girl he'd grown up with has transformed into a gorgeous young woman, and she's attracting attention from people she shouldn't-like the ex who nearly destroyed her and a strange new student with a disturbing habit of showing up wherever Beth goes. But for David, the most troubling discovery is realizing that he doesn't just want Beth to be safe. He wants her to be his.

Can someone say angst?! With a side of suspense. And a WHOLE LOTTA SEXY & HOTTTTT!! This is what you get with In Pieces by Danielle Pearl!! Let me tell you something, I read In Ruins last year and it was my #1 read of all of 2016. I loved it THAT MUCH. With that being said, I thought there was no way In Pieces was going to come close. I WAS DEAD WRONG!!

I love a good college read, filled with angst and suspense! All the ups and downs, twists and turns!! I love flashbacks into childhood. It’s a great way to learn of your MC’s that much better. And I absolutely love friends to lovers romance. With David and Beth, we get all of this and SO MUCH MORE! We have a true friendship based on love and respect since these two were little kids. They have been through so much, which makes their bond that much more meaningful and special. Since they are both in college now, attending the same school, it’s hard to hide their reactions to each other. Jealousy, sexual frustration, possessiveness. OH and did I mention that David has been best friends with Beth’s older brother since the beginning of time lol?!! Cause yeah…SO HOT!!

This story touches on some pretty tough issues. I was aware of this going in because of knowing a little bit of Beth’s past from previous books. The way Danielle wrote this story, I simply don’t have proper words. Beautiful. Care. Tenderness. Thorough. Strength. She executed it perfectly. I always think of Danielle not just as a writer, but as an artist. She always paints these vivid stories in your head. You feel like you become an extra character cheering them on, crying when they cry, wanting to throw things, or wanting to shout out during an argument! This is why I love reading. To get lost in stories. To have visions painted in my head. Danielle’s writing is seriously some of the best I’ve ever read. She never lets me down. Always putting out books that are stronger and more beautiful, if that is even possible! She pulls out every single emotion in you. She rips out your heart, stomps on it, smashes it, then somehow puts it all back pretty and shiny. This is why she’s my favorite. She keeps me in touch with my feelings!! If you haven’t checked out In Pieces yet, or never read Danielle Pearl, I can’t say enough on how you really need to!! She is someone that everyone should be reading!!

➳When it comes down to childhood crushes, and hearts being broken, used and ready to fixed, this love story is the one that you can definitely say it is a MUST to read...

➳This book is part of a series that I have not gotten the chance to start reading, but because I read this one first my plans have changed as I plan on reading the previous and the future books in the series. The novel first starts with intuitions of a broken heart from the main female character, Beth. We get a better insight as to what happened and what she did. The choices she makes are the ones that have led her to the place that we get to read and be introduced to the main male character, David. A character that has stolen my heart in so many ways due to his present and his past, one that incorporates Beth and her emotional issues that she slowly learns to conquer throughout the story.

➳I want to make this a quick review but I want to make sure my followers know that this story has so much more meaning than a girl with a broken heart who is looking for someone to help her fix it. This story has the background meanings of suicide attempts, and compassionate love that conquers the soul of individuals that are just meant to be with each other. Many don't believe in love being conquered by destiny. However, this story proves you wrong as it has meanings of many that draw you to the page and to the story plot Danielle Peal has written;
"With David, the danger has only ever been to my heart and innocence, and I can't remember a time when I wouldn't have willingly given him both..."

➳Both characters, Beth and David are in the obstacles of being in forbidden territories. To me, I find Beth and David superior characters that are one of a kind. Individuals that need each other more than just the physical means to battle the stages that life has at stake. The fact that David is possessive of Beth is just another factor that makes me swoon over him and his english major, tattoo, soccer loving mind. He is a means to an end of my resolving issue of going against broody, tattooed male characters. David has broken that barrier for sure and I am hoping that Danielle Pearl writes more characters such as him and Beth.

For Beth Caplan college is her way to move on from the being the girl that needs her older brother to protect her. She wants to branch out and prove to herself that she's a better person now and doesn't need a protector. Even though she's away from her protective brother, she's now in close proximity with his best friend, David. but his feelings aren't at all like an older brothers and his instincts are screaming at him to not only make her safe, to make her his.

Give me a brothers-best-friend trope and I will like it. But give me my favorite trope written by Danielle Pearl with her amazing story-telling ability and I will love it. I was amazed with how these characters came to life on the pages and sucked me right in. Beth was trying to put herself back together after a big heartbreak and David was the best person to help her do that. He had a lot of guilt on his mind and his own issues that he was dealing with but it made him work harder to be there for Beth. They were truly a great couple and I will be re-reading them many times in the future.

Now that I've gotten to learn some about Sammy, Beth's brother, it makes me want to go back and read the original Something More series. Which is saying a lot since that's set in High school and I usually avoid those, but I just can't get enough of this author.

Danielle Pearl has such a way when she writes her young coming of age romances. She has a gift to bring the angst and with her new book, In Pieces,  she also adds a bit of suspense.

This is one one of those seemingly forbidden romances with the older brother's  best friend but there is so much more than the typical crush come true. Beth Caplan had her heart crushed when her high school love left her with a simple note. With promises broken she barley survived. Her second chance to find happiness and to live is waiting at college. She is doing her best to open up and just be. Under the watchful eye of her personal guardian, David March, she feels safe yet held down. If only he could see she's not just his best friend's little sister.

They say that real life happens in college. Well, for Beth the ride is just about to start. She finds her way one step at a time proving to herself and to an older David that she is more...she just didn't know that he already knows this. With her past coming back into her present, a new dangerous flirtation consuming her, and the fear of a potential stalker she is just about to prove to all that she is ready  to hold her own.

I loved the cautious progression and the tension with the characters. Beth and David were long time friends and they had a natural comfort zone that had an air of want . Beth deserved goodness and David had never wanted longer than one night. It was a true push and pull of emotions while the chaos of college life was occurring. If you are a fan of the slow burn and the passionate take what's always been yours...In Pieces of a perfect story for you!

I'm so freaking proud of this book, you guys! It was not only chosen by Amazon's editorial team as one of the "Best Books of October", but also as one of the "Best Romances of 2017"!

If you like brother's-best-friend or friends-to-lovers romances, this one is definitely for you. But don't get me wrong, In Pieces is an entirely unique, poignant story about survival, family, loss, and, of course, an EPIC love.

I hope you all enjoy reading about Beth and David as much as I loved writing their story! Happy reading xoxo

Beth Caplan sees college as her chance to start over, to make something of herself beyond what her family sees her as. She's more than the depressed little kid that they picture her as, she left that behind three years ago, but no one else has. College is supposed to be a time of learning, growing, and having fun, but her brother's best friend is making that nearly impossible. Not only is he her first, and oldest, crush, but he takes overprotective just a step too far.
David fought for Beth once and he lost, her older brother shutting him down, now he will do anything in his power to make sure she gets what she deserves, the best. He doesn't believe it's himself, but he doesn't believe it's anyone else either. As he stands in her way of making new male friends and continuously finds ways to protect her from anything negative he discovers that his feelings definitely aren't that of an older brother. He's willing to risk his friendship with his best friend for her, because he wants more than her safety, he wants her.

"I half-lie. Because it's more than that, and I suspect she knows."

Brother's best friend trope? Check.
New adult that actually features relatable situations? Check.
A romance that's sweet and swoon worthy? Check.
Danielle Pearl creates a world around Beth and David, their relationship changing as they come of age in a fun college atmosphere. I immediately pictured the characters as students at my old University, the fraternity events brought back memories, and the rush of emotions Beth and David felt as they navigated the power of feelings was so accurate to how my own once were. Everything in college is heightened and Pearl captured that perfectly with her characters.

"But Beth is still Beth. She's still Cap's little sister, even if the more time I spend with her away from him, the easier it is to forget why she's off limits."

Told from the alternating POV's of Beth and David, In Pieces follows the pair as they fight their feelings for one another, discover what it really means to be an adult, and face situations that are all to real. Pearl writes about unique family dynamics, providing us complete backgrounds on both characters without really dragging the story too far into the past. Though they've known each other forever and harbored crushes just as long, In Pieces really is about the two getting to know one another without any outside influence. They go to classes and parties, they work out, they bicker, and mostly they fight the lust they share for one another, the chemistry burning even brighter when they find themselves sharing a living space.

"And it's more than that. It's always been more than that. Beth is just...different. More."

I have such a massive love for childhood crushes turned something more, they just get to me, so it's a given that In Pieces hit it out of the park for me. The story is definitely focused on Beth and David's adventure into romance, however there is a lot more going on in the novel as well. I love that Pearl addressed some seriously real life events in the novel (they are brief, but could be triggering), but at times the downs that the characters experienced seemed to weigh down the novel. My heart ached for Beth, she'd been through so much as a youth and her first year at college seemed bogged down by drama and angst. Though the events are significant to her growth, I felt overwhelmed and almost distracted from the overall plot of the novel.

"She doesn't resist. She should resist. Because I'm not sure I can."

In Pieces features well developed characters, an intriguing story line, and the kind of forbidden romance that gives the feeling of those falling in love butterflies. I loved taking a break from my life and living in Beth and David's for a little while. Readers of sweet romance will love this angst-y duo as they discover that letting their hearts guide them just might be the right solution to all their problems.

A meticulous heartfelt romance that showcased Danielle Pearl’s ability to create a story that packed an emotional punch that was poignant, beautiful, and endearing. In Pieces completely took me by surprised in a good way. The New Adult genre is either a hit or miss with me especially since I find college themed romance pretty much standard. But in this book, Pearl treated her readers to a story that was more than romance. It was a story of healing, starting anew, and friendship.

#InPieces

College is every person’s defining moment. It is where you discover the type of person you are. It molds and shapes who you are as an individual. College can also be a fresh start and for Beth Caplan, it was her escape. Her moment to start over and leave her past mistakes behind her. But what Beth didn’t expect was her older brother’s best friend, David March to be constantly hovering over her.

David has always been attracted to Beth and wants to protect and keep her safe. While others may see David’s action as a bit too overprotective, I found it to be sweet and thoughtful. As much as David wants Beth, he still doesn’t want to cross the line. As Beth and David navigate the blurred lines of their friendship, feelings begins to emerge. Will David finally be able to be honest with his feelings for Beth?

In Pieces was indeed a very slow burn romance that worked for the storyline of David and Beth. I loved that Danielle Pearl didn’t rush anything and allowed readers to understand and feel for her characters as they go on this journey of self discovery. So if you are looking for a story that had all the romantic elements and still carry a strong meaningful storyline then this book is definitely for you.

4.5 "There are more things in heaven and earth..." stars!

"There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt in your philosophy." -Hamlet.

David March is sex on legs. It's rebellion.
Beth Caplan is a survivor. It's forbidden.

Having her life sabotaged by her own mind is not an easy battle. After one ill-fated night, Beth Caplan was left in pieces. Now, three years later, she's ready to live. To experience what feels to be young. But she's not alone. David March has made his mission to protect her. And nothing stands in his way to make sure she's safe. Not even his own desire to make her his. But as the past comes back and new dangers try to break her all over again, Beth and David struggle to define which feelings are going to win. The loyalty to her brother and his best friend or the love for each other.

"She thinks she's awkward. But it's the world that's awkward. She's fucking perfect."

David, David, David. My David ♥. What can I say? I LOVE him with a love so deep. He tried to mask his possessiveness with protection, but it was impossible. Even when he wasn't conscious of it, he loved her. So to see him struggle with his feelings for Beth made my heart squeeze so bad. I wanted to punch him in the face and kiss him at the same time.

"With David, the danger has only ever been to my heart and innocence, and I can't remember a time when I wouldn't have willingly given him both."

With David, Bea was starting to come alive, she was starting to hope, daring to dream again. In love, in life, in everything. My Bea. She was so vulnerable, yet unbreakable. And yes, I did love her too! Judge me all you want, but I did fall in love with these two.

"David utterly consumes me, kiss by kiss..."

Word by word. I was totally consumed by this book. Danielle Pearl's writing was deliciously addictive. I was immediately absorbed in her story. Her characters. I was desperate to stay in the book for as long as I could. That's why I had so much trouble with the ending. And not because it was a bad one, but because I felt like it was not enough. I wanted MORE. There were details I wanted to know. Moments I wanted to live with them. Sighs. I just wanted more.

With In Pieces, Danielle brings awareness to problems faced by today's youth, intertwining them into Dave & Bea's journey in a way that allowed me to just fall into the pages of the story and know that I was in for a good time.

Dave & Bea's story is a beautiful one with a twist I didn't see coming. (One I'm dying to know more about). It's a story shaped by loss and survival, family and forgiveness, and of course an epic love.

"If I could survive on only this for the rest of my life–give up all other forms of sustenance and exist on a diet of just you–I would. And any man who wouldn't isn't a fucking man at all."

MOTHERFUKCER!!! I LOVE HIM ♥.

Holy angst batman! This book has alllllllll the feels! In Pieces sucks you right in, and keeps you there. I love books with flashbacks, and all of Danielle Pearl's books I've read have them, and this one didn't disappoint either. I love getting to know the characters and what makes them tick, how they got that way and why, and I love watching as the author throws them into impossible situations and forces them to work their way through them. This story is all about survival and embracing who you are, no matter what judgments your loved ones hold. Love is worth the risk!! This story was a 5+++star read for me.

These books keep getting better and better! I absolutely loved Beth from the first moment we met her in Normal, and I was really excited to finally learn the details of her backstory in this instalment in the series. The romance between Beth and David is quite sweet, and there is an intriguing suspense plot interwoven throughout that made this a solid four star read.
Also: Apparently there is going to be a new book in January 2021? Brody and Layla? I'm beyond excited! I never would have thought Layla would get her own book, and I can't wait to dig into her head and find out how she's been dealing with what happened in Normal...

sometimes a bad book can really ground you🙏🙏

YEARS ago i got this book as a result of a blind book date and… chapters you betrayed my trust… (i haven’t gotten another blind book date since then).

i’ve tried multiple times since then to read it and always stopped after the first or second chapter until last night lmao. i don’t know what compelled me to keep reading but it’s like when people say you can’t look away from a train wreck. some things should stay on wattpad (with peace and love)🫶🏻

Off-the-charts chemistry. I also have a soft spot with love stories between childhood crushes. Lots going on here but Pearl handled it very well. If sleeping on a Sunday night wasn't such a necessity, I would have read straight through.

When I had the chance to review this book, I didn't hesitate to take it. I have heard so many good things about Danielle Pearl, so I was excited to see what she could bring in this college romance!

After feeling utterly broken three years ago, Beth's family has treated her like a fragile doll who could collapse at any moment. Now, Beth's in college and finally able to live on her own. Enjoying the freedom, Beth isn't too happy when her brother's best friend, David, decides to be her own personal bodyguard on campus. David has always had feelings for Beth, but he knows he can never have her. When he hears that she's going to his college, he knows he has to protect her at all costs. Can he protect her, though, without revealing or finally giving in to how he really feels about her?

Going into this one, I knew that it was going to be emotional, but I didn't know it was going to be as emotional as it turned out. I had thought something else had happened to Beth in the past, so when we learned about what had happened three years ago right off the bat, I was definitely surprised. Beth was so broken in the past, so I understood why people treated her in such a fragile way. Seeing that Beth and the Beth now, though, I could also understand why Beth wanted to just be treated normally now that she was finally in college. Beth had such a good heart and I loved how much she wanted to help people after what she had gone through.

Moving on to the romance, this was definitely a forbidden romance with a lot of angst, specifically on David's part. Since we got both POVs, David was so angsty when talking about how much he wanted Beth but knew he couldn't have her because of being best friends with her brother. Instead, he tried to protect her and, in the process, warned every single other guy off of her. I kind of wish we had some more depth to David's character, especially with his writing. We got a little glimpse of that and how important it was to him, but he spent almost all of his time thinking about Beth and his feelings and how to protect her.

In the end, I really enjoyed my first book from Danielle Pearl. There was emotion, heartache, and a beautiful romance. While it did get a little too angsty at times to the point where I wish more went on between their talk of longing and emotion, I still really enjoyed these characters and their story. And there were even a few surprises thrown in at the end that I wasn't expecting at all. I definitely can't wait to read more from Danielle Pearl!

Sam has always been one of my favorite book boyfriends. From the very first time I read Normal. Well I still love Sam don't get me wrong. But, yes I sad BUT, I hadn't gotten to know David yet. And I'm so glad I know him!!! And Beth, I know we didn't know her too well but I've had a soft spot for her since we've met her. And now, now it's time to dive in!!

Beth, she's got a lot going on in her brain. I don't want to go too much into anything but she just has a lot going on. David, he's Sam's best friend and he is at the same university and he's going to look out for Beth. But we all know how these stories usually play out. This story? Its uniquely David and Beth. It's everything I hoped for their story and more! It's sweet, angsty, twists and turns, surprises you won't expect, and a whole bunch of mystery!!

We all know Beth struggles with some things in life. Sam has been protective since, it's discussed in the first book of this series. So, anyways her thoughts are always getting in her way. And my heart seriously hurts for her. But David, he's always there. There to protect her, and get her out of her head. He knows her and knows what she needs. He's patient and kind and does anything he can to help her. He shows her that she is so much more than what she may think she is. In doing this David gives Beth her life back. She's strong, vibrant, and alive! These two bring the absolute best out in each other. And it's a beautiful story to read.

I'm not doing a good job of reviewing this at all. Just know you NEED to pick it up. It's one of my absolute favorite reads of 2017. I'm in love with David and his never ending love. And I adore Beth and her sweet heart. These two are made for each other. Their journey may be shaky and not always clear but a love as perfect as theirs is meant to be together right? Guess you'll have to read to find out. But trust me Beth and David are so so so worth it! <3

I'm sporting a giddy, giggly smile from an ending I called but still had to cling to hope would happen. But not all my predictions were accurate...can't tell you which.

This was my first Danielle Pearl book and I look forward to catching up. I think Sammy might need a chill pill though. Anyone can understand but dude, brother's best friend is major hottie points. lol. Guys don't mind the sister's best friend, but once your sister thinks about your friend all bets are off. Too bad!

Enjoy the fun and guess away. See if you can figure out who is who or what?

4.5 Bea Stars

Danielle Pearl once again left me in Pieces with her take on best friend's sister romance. Utterly devastating, off-limits and scorchingly intense, In Pieces is an emotional roller coaster ride from the first page to the last! I just couldn't get enough of this remarkably heart-wrenching series.

After a glimpse of David and Beth in In Ruins, I just know from the bottom of my heart that their story would be heartbreaking and phenomenal, much like Car and Tucker's story. Knowing Danielle Pearl, she has a way with words that connect with readers on such an emotional level.

Three years ago, Beth Caplan almost took her own life, so going to college isn't just a new chapter in her life but also her chance to move on from her past and reinvent herself. So when her brother's best friend, David made it his mission to become her personal bodyguard, she was annoyed at his overbearing protectiveness yet found herself succumbing to the attraction that existed between them.

But that wasn't the only problem. With her ex back in town, the presence of a shady newcomer and a rapist on the loose, Beth, who is trying hard to mend the broken parts might once again find herself... in pieces.

OH. All the ANGST and DRAMA and ROMANCE was incredibly ADDICTING. I am high on Beth and David's whirlwind romance. Considering the whole crushing on the older brother's best friend is one of my favorite romance tropes, I devoured this book like a starved maniac. The plot progression was slightly slow yet it was just the right pace for the story as the author walked us through Beth and David's history and to the present. As Beth and David have known each other since young, there's a sense of closeness and comfort that is lacking when it comes to other characters, which I find myself to be inexplicably drawn to.

I also enjoyed the fact that the author added an element of suspense when she threw a stalker and a rapist into the mix. I was kept at the edge of my seat the whole time and the reveal caught me by surprise.

Highly recommended coming-to-age series that you have to one-click today!

I can’t believe I finished this book. I had a lot of issues mostly around the guy being incredibly controlling and somewhat abusive- it was all very unhealthy. The guy was disgustingly overprotective and the girl was disgustingly weak. And then she would get random moments of strength and stand up to him and he’d get turned on! How belittling!
Another one of those books where the girl is in danger, the guy is overprotective and it chafes, and then the girl gets attacked or something and it seems like she was in the wrong for not listening to her mans orders! She was afraid to tell him things because she knew he’d get angry and then he got angry when he found out and yells at her! And then she yells back and low and behold he gets turned on!
Also the scenes were so drawn out! They’d be arguing and they would go from point to point never finishing each argument. It was very hard to follow (and care). There’s one scene where they’re yelling at each other and they move around the room aggressively (another issue with the book he’s fairly physical with her, like borderline abusive) and they go from like dresser to bed to wall to separate rooms to door to bed blah blah blah. Again the conversation goes no where it’s just filler as suspense for the sexual tension.
To sum up my disgust with this book in one scene: he watches her sleep and thinks “not for the first time I wish she wasn’t so beautiful”. I can’t.

The end was a little rushed but I really enjoyed this one. I loved the push/pull between Beth and David. They had great chemistry. And I love a good brother's best friend romance. That's so my romance jam.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Beth Caplan is a survivor. Once shattered by a decision that she can never forget, she is determined to enjoy all that college life has to offer. David March is Beth’s brother’s best friend. When he finds that Beth is enrolling at the same college, he makes it known that he will do everything in his power to protect her. To make sure she’s safe. He just didn’t know he’d be sacrificing his heart in the process. While her past comes crashing back, Beth is determined not to break. Not again.

“This feeling- this is what is most dangerous. Because I could become addicted to this.”

David and Beth were like magnets on every page. Every word, every scene, it was simply electricity flowing through the story. While their relationship is seen as off-limits, that did nothing to take away from the fact of how drawn these two were to each other. My heart raced as I felt each intense emotion of their desire. Completely enthralled by the depth of their story, you can’t help but feel that Beth and David were simply magic on the pages. There was a push and pull that kept me inherently invested in their triumphs and their times of heartbreak. This. Will. Move. You.

“Do you know that I love you?”

Despite being off limits, David’s love rebelled against anything logical. He pursued her heart in the only way he could, by guarding it. He loved in silence. In secret. But his love was no less felt. Loving Beth could cost him so much, yet the thought of not loving her was never really an option. It was so much more than the typical brother’s best friend romance. When loving someone, you abandon all regard and everything that comes with them. It reminds you that love can come at a price, but it’s worth the cost.

“It’s imprinted into every goddammned day of my life, every fucking thought – caring about you more than I should.”

Ms. Pearl is a master of crafting stories that speak for the voiceless. For those that live in silence. She writes their stories with a grace and understanding in a way that very few are capable of. Inspiring in it’s execution, thought provoking in its unraveling, there are not enough stars to truly capture the magnitude of the sheer beauty and bravery this story holds. Bewitched by the devastating beauty of the author’s romantic and refined prose, I was absolutely lost in the story of David and Beth. I never wanted to put this one down! Palpable, meticulously written, In Pieces is love in its most powerful form.

As always with a Danielle Pearl book, you just know you’re about to read something special and In Pieces was no different. Right from the beginning, I was swept away by Danielle’s writing and the magic of the story.

Although not connected to In Ruins, which I adored, In Pieces has the same emotional and captivating feel to it.

Portraying the story of forbidden love, we meet Beth Caplan who recovering from a trauma that has scarred her young life and the boy that has always protected her, her brother’s friend, David March.

Now both attending the same college, Beth is trying to live a normal life but with David her constant shadow, and warning every boy within 100 miles to stay away from her, normal is anything but what she’s experiencing. David needs to know Beth is safe and well. He too wants her to experience normal but despite inviting her to frat parties, he is still obsessively protective of her.

David has always loved Beth but has been unable to appreciate his feelings for her until now. Sworn away from her by her brother, David is torn between his feelings for her and upsetting his lifelong friend. But with Beth facing possible danger once again, this time from a boy who appears to be stalking her, David knows that he must do everything in his power to keep her safe.

From emotional breakdowns to new love, Beth finds herself in an altogether different whirlwind of emotions as she struggles to understand her feelings for David. Is the boy she has grown up with the man of her dreams or is he more of a brother to her? With forbidden love comes, even more, drama for Beth and David but will they find a way to prove to everyone that they are destined to be together?

This was a really sweet storyline which gave me chills at times. I really do love Danielle Pearl’s writing and would highly recommend her books to everyone who loves a story which combines young love, pain, frustration and a good old HEA.

I loved In Ruins, even as it broke my heart, so I was not surprised on how much I enjoyed In Pieces by Danielle Pearl. This was a great coming of age story with angst, romance, older brother’s best friend and a bit of suspense. You will be captivated from start to finish.

Beth Caplan was left in pieces when she was fifteen. All everybody wanted to do after was protect her and keep her safe. It took her a long time to heal and find herself, but college is a fresh start for her and she could not be more excited. She wants to experience life and just live. Though she was still vulnerable, she was also strong and determined.

David March is Beth’s older brother’s best friend and when he learns she is going to be attending his school, promises to keep her safe. What he was not prepared for was the woman she is now and now he may need to keep her safe from himself as well. Because all he wants now, is to make her his. I loved David. He was protective and possessive of Beth, even as he struggled with what he was feeling towards her.

Once at school, Beth begins to open herself up slowly. David is there every step of the way. Though he is the one person who never saw her as broken, he is determined to be there for her. As Beth and David spend time together, will they allow what they feel to progress or will loyalties destroy any chances they have before it even starts? And as Beth’s past and present collide and new mystery approaches, will she be able to survive or will she be left in pieces again?

I was consumed by Beth and David’s story. Their romance was sweet and full of so many emotions and angst. It was a story of finding who you are, how strong you can be and learning to let go and to let love in. I loved the story and the characters and cannot wait to read more of not only this series, but to go back to original series.

4.5 stars! Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.

I've heard Danielle's words were unequivocally moving, but I never expected the emotions they would evoke from me. The subject matter in this story is tough, a subject most shy away from, but Danielle deals with them flawlessly.

I don't want to go into too much detail in regards to the story--I went in not knowing much and was completely blown away by both the story and Danielle's words. Just know you'll meet strength in the form of Beth, and unconditional love in the form of David. Two beautiful characters that shattered my heart at times and completely fell in love with.

In Pieces isn't your normal "brother's best friend romance." It's deserves to be in a class all it's own. It's poignant, thought-provoking, fearless, most importantly...breathtaking. I can't wait for others to meet Beth and David!

Holy Bits!! This book is on another level of perfect. First I got Rory and Sam, then Carl and Tucker, and now Beth and David. Ugh I just love how she calls him David!! Beth is such a strong character. She had me crying for her since chapter 1. How could she endure so much at the age of 15? David always there for her waiting to pick her up, had my heart hurting for him as well. David pissed me off so much trying to deny himself happiness and second guessing himself, but at the same time this helped Beth stand up for what she wants and make him realize both of their self-worth. That last chapter, omg that last chapter. I love them all!! These characters have me so invested and in love with them I never want the Something More series to end.

In Pieces by Danielle Pearl is a new adult college romance that follows the story of Beth (Bits) Caplan and David March. David is Beth's older brother's best friend, and she has had a secret crush on him for as long as she could remember. David has gone from being the town rebel/class clown to the college frat hunk, and when Beth starts her freshman year at the sane school, her brother asks his buddy to keep an eye on her, but that isn't easy to do when Beth is determined to find her independence, and David's forbidden attraction to her has only grown.

Throw in some danger and Beth's past coming back to haunt her, and the situation becomes even stickier and things. get. H-O-T. But In Pieces isn't all lust. David and Beth's relationship is genuine and builds so naturally through the past and present day scenes that you can't help but root for them. And true to form, the author brings up significant modern day issues and handles them expertly, like suicide and campus rape.

If you're on the fence about this one, jump right off and into In Pieces, because you won't regret it!! Must-read new adult romance!!!

Wow Danielle did it again.
This book had it all, angst, heartache, drama, swoon.
I couldn't stop reading it. My kindle may have hit my face because I Could.Not.Stop.
This book is a stand alone but in my personal opinion you should start from the beginning with Normal. Or make sure you one click this read it and then go back.
I loved the two main characters "Bea" and David ❤
I'm hoping to see more of Brody as well.
