Love this author. Even in a quiet, low-key book there are details in the pictures and themes that make it special. Julia's other clothing and accoutrements are worth noticing, as are her neighorbors and classmates. A nice companion to the more dramatic classic, by another one of my favorite authors, Kevin Henkes, Owen.

Julia got a red woolen blanket in the hospital where she was born. She grows and likes to suck on the blanket and rub it on her nose and crawl with it. She learned to walk toward it and hide under it. It started to fall apart until only a little piece is left to bring to school. By the end of the day she’s lost the last thread, and she hardly missed it.
