I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

I love dragon shifters, so I had high hopes for Ivy's Dragons of Eternity series starter... Unfortunately, the setup had me nervous from the start.

Our heroine is an Imp who has lived on the run for decades, she finally took a chance, settled down, bought a house and became a business owner and was finally happy... until he finds her.

I really didn't care for the kidnapping/slave/master thing that brings the leads together, there's such an imbalanced of power and he >will< have her, she is his. Initially, this skirted the line and I was worried that we might stray into questionable consent territory -nope, his overwhelming sexual mojo makes her forget all her qualms. Still, I wasn't happy that a HEA for them means she has to give up everything she's built. My other issue was that there wasn't much else going on storywise in the background, so at the heart this is just sexy times in a thin story wrapper.

So, for me this was just okay.

Alexandra Ivy has a new paranormal series out and it is hot. I went into her new Dragons of Eternity series expecting a good paranormal romance. Burned by Darkness is definitely hotter with the sexy than her Guardians of Eternity books. I’m totally on board with that. Baine is a very cocky dragon. He also happens to be a dragon that is beyond possessive about his treasured horde. The items of his horde vary from gold and gems to priceless works of art and musty old books and of course his missing imp, Tayla. There is no mistaking his ownership of Tayla. He reminds her often that he bought her fair and square.

Tayla has other thoughts about the dragon, many of them. While running and hiding from him for the past twenty five years she has had plenty of time to think. Tayla simply wants to bake and run her precious teahouse. Things are simple until Baine finds her. Then her thoughts turn to all the things she wants him to do to her and with her and how to keep themselves busy in his bed, never his harem. That’s the problem though. She knows that the arrogant dragon is using his dragon magic to get what he wants and what he wants is her.

While chest pounding Neanderthals are nothing any sane woman would want in real life, in book escapes they make for uber sexy characters. Bane is that possessive ass that is complete book boyfriend material. His knuckle dragging ways get him in so much trouble where Tayla is concerned. Baine is completely oblivious how to actually woo a woman. He’s a dragon the ultimate in hotness. He just assumes Tayla should recognize it for what it is and fall at his feet like all other women. Tayla can’t deny the attraction and desire she has for Baine. She can however make him work at winning her heart though.

4 - "There's not a witch in the world who has magic strong enough to keep out dragon-fire." Stars!

Alexandra Ivy is an author new to me in as much that I have not read any of her work previous to Burned by Darkness, but as an author in general, she is one that I have been dying to read, for a long time, and this book being the first in the new Dragons of Eternity series, seemed like an ideal place to start.

And happily I was right to wait. I love me some PNR, and this book had all the elements of the genre that I love so much, a sassy heroine, a dark, brooding, dominant alpha male, and a cast of entertaining and worthwhile secondary characters.

Tayla, twenty-five years ago had the misfortune of believing she had been kidnapped from her father’s gem shop, and sold to a dragon by Troll Slave-Traders, managing to use her then unknown skills to escape, she has been on the run ever since.

Baine being the dragon Talya escaped from all those years ago, has been looking for her ever since. When he finally catches up with her, sparks fly, the fires of desire rage and the sheets on the bed literally go up in flames. But the story isn’t just about this dragon finding his mate, Tayla finds out that her capture wasn’t a simple kidnapping as she thought, and Baine realises that the woman he believes is his soul-mate, is not just going to lie down and accept her fate. Add into that her unknown skills have now become common knowledge and there are quite a few beings out to claim her as their own.

He was a dragon who understood that wealth didn’t only come in gold and silver, the greatest treasure was knowledge.

There is quite a lot going on in this book, we get too meet a few characters that I hope will feature more in future books, and the author does a really good job of setting the scene and giving enough background for everything, without over doing it and detracting from Baine and Tayla’s reconnection. The story was unique and well-paced, the sexy-times plentiful and perfectly described. I liked Tayla’s ballsy attitude, and Baine’s somewhat clumsy attempts to woo her. This is definitely a start of a series that I will be eagerly looking for more of in the future.

It also makes me happy in the fact that I have a wealth of other books and series from this author that I can now go look up, and enjoy reading more of.

This was a fun quick read.

We have a hero who changes his ways and a heroine who discovers herself. The worldbuilding is decent and the plot and love stoy is fast paced. Everything could be drawn with more detail and nuance but it is an enjoyable escape of a Dragon Shifter Romance.

My favorite stumpy gargoyle from Ivy's other books appers and that is always a plus for me.

I was given this book for my honest review so there you have it!

im meh on this one.. I love dragons but I wasnt enthralled with this one. Typically I really enjoy A. Ivy's books but this one was a bit lacking in the usual humor and action. it was just ok. Not sure if I'll continue with the series or not, the only side character worth mentioning is Baine's right hand man. We will have to see with this one.

2.5 stars. The plotline wasn't bad, but the book was really an extension of the Guardians stories rather than a new series. Short, with not much substance or character development. A little too cutesy, 'mine' and insta-love for my tastes. Plus, a little too much of Levet's silly malaprops.

I was sad when the Guardians of Eternity series ended, but there was a silver lining in that there was to be a spin-off series featuring dragons. Oh yes, excited and eager for that!

The story opens with lovely imp, Tayla, contentedly looking about her at her dream home and tea shop. She has been on the run all her life it seems, but something compelled her to put down shallow roots when she saw the quaint old Victorian house near the woods. And she doesn't even live alone because she has rented rooms to Levet, the gargoyle for his matchmaking business. Levet is sweet and harmless, but he is bothered that she wants nothing to do with a love match. She begs him to leave well enough alone, but Levet doesn't and her life takes a turn for the dangerous and interesting.

Baine has been searching for the gorgeous imp that escape him for twenty-five years. His fiery dragon nature has been on edge since he clapped eyes on the imp when the trolls brought her as a slave to pay a debt to his father. He bought the debt and now she is his if he can catch her. Then it is by luck that his dragon scents her through a portal to the earth dimension. He promptly collects his imp and sets out to seduce her not knowing why he cares that she accept him and willingly take him. He is distracted by his scheming father's sudden interest in having Tayla back and why there is a group of trolls also eagerly seeking her. What is it about Tayla?

Tayla discovers the truth behind her being taken by trolls and sold to the dragon and is determined to honor the debt, but there is no way she will fall for her captor. She won't, she really, really,...she did. But he can't know. She won't be vulnerable to the arrogant male who must think of her as a possession.

This one felt very familiar as it was part of the Guardians world. In fact, there wasn't much world-building. I think there is an assumption that the reader is already familiar with everything, but the newly introduced immortal dragons and maybe the trolls. Not that depth is the strong point.

No, the strong part of the plot is the action and the light, but passionate romances. Things move along quickly or at least steadily. The story is introduced enough so the reader isn't confused and then its off like a rocket. The romance is scorching and formulaic like the series before it. Arrogant alpha male and fiery female who won't be dictated to share a strong attraction and end up in fast and furious fight and love scenes. This is not a complaint; just an observation. I happen to get a kick out of these stories feeling familiar in the paranormal version of a cozy read. I like that the challenges are mostly external and these are easy reads as a result.

I enjoyed Baine and Tayla's story. He is so arrogant and has no idea why she is being so difficult when he went to so much trouble. And she doesn't seem to realize that his demanding, assuming ways are proofs that he cares and not that he sees her as an object. He is one hot, powerful, sexy dragon and he knows it, but Tayla doesn't immediately swoon and jump into his bed. The challenge is good for him and being wanted and treasured is something she needs after her father constantly used her.

I loved that Baine's dragon side had several good scenes and was part of the action. He is a powerful being and I loved seeing the dragon flexing his muscles so to speak. I do wish that the enemies would have been a bigger challenge, but I guess that would have been tough since he was the biggest, baddest monster in the game.

Finally, it was hilarious to have Levet be a crossover character. And hey, he annoys the dragons as much as he did all the other immortals. But he truly has the heart of a knight in shining armor and he so wants to prove it.

All in all, it was a good start to the spin-off series. It was on the lighter side though had enough action and passion to keep it interesting. I would recommend it to paranormal romance fans, but those who enjoyed the Guardians of Eternity series would get more out of it.

You might say Baine, the dragon, is a little possessive especially when it comes to his treasure. His greatest treasure disappeared 25 years ago and he would do anything to reclaim her. When Tayla shows up on his radar, Baine rushes to reclaim what is his...but he's not the only one searching for Tayla.

Tayla has been on the run for years but now she is trying to put down some roots and start a baking business. Just when she thinks her dreams might start to come true, she finds herself at the mercy of an irresistible, dominate, bossy, alpha, dragon.

When danger threatens Tayla, Baine's dragon might just raze the earth to keep her safe.

There are a few plot directions that left us hanging or unexplained but over a purely fantastic read.

Ivy, you had me at Levet and kept me with the explosive chemistry between Baine and Tayla.

Burned by Darkness is another sure fire, winning series from Alexandra Ivy. For Guardian fans, you'll understand my squeal when Levet made his appearance...the opening is there, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more crossover characters.

Okay so to be totally honest the whole harem thing definitely had me a little worried when I started this one but luckily that turned out to be a nonissue. I was expecting Tayla to end up being one in a room full of many willing to "service" Baine and I have never been so happy to be wrong in all my life.

As soon as Baine saw Tayla twenty-five years ago he knew she was meant to be his. Unfortunately Tayla managed to escape and has been evading him and his father ever since. You see, Tayla was kidnapped by trolls and was given to Baine's father to serve in his harem. As soon as Tayla learned her fate, she escaped and has been running ever since.

Wary of settling down and being caught but tired of not having a place to call home, Tayla buys her teahouse and has it spelled so that she can't be caught. Unfortunately something causes her spells to fail and Baine finds her. When she learns the real reason she was given to Baine's father, and that Baine actually purchased her from him, she knows that she has to pay off her debt. But that doesn't mean that she has to enjoy being in his harem, right?!

I absolutely loved the relationship between Baine and Tayla. The chemistry was off the charts but I loved that Baine wouldn't take Tayla until she admitted that she actually wanted to be with him. And when they finally ended up together? Smoking hot... Literally!

There's a nice bit of suspense thrown in when Baine and Tayla learn that he wasn't the only one searching for her all those years. And, of course, watching Baine become his badass dragon to protect his mate definitely made this one worth reading. I swear there's nothing sexier than a shifters' protective side.

Burned by Darkness was a great start to this new series and I can't wait to see where Alexandra Ivy goes with it. Definitely a must read for fans of paranormal romance!

Baine is one possessive dragon, “true.” At last they could agree. He would always protect her. “You are mine.” When you're used to having women drop their panties on your command, your ego takes a plunge when one doesn't appreciate efforts, our boy is learning that the female mind is not to be tamed, "why wasn’t she giddy? “You are…” He hesitated, choosing his words with care. “Very difficult to please.” Can anyone e say jealous much? “You won’t talk of other males,” he commanded , bristling with pure male possession. “You won’t even think of them.” I'm going to love this series I love me some moody dragons.

I love Alexandra Ivy’s delicious writing, and characters, and imagination. That’s why I jumped into this first installment in a new series. My 29th book by this amazing author.

This amazing book was absolutely exciting, disturbing, thrilling, and I just couldn’t put it down. It gave me the creeps and drove me nuts, until the end.

The thing is Levet quite stole the show. I’d met him in the Guardians Of Eternity series, and never had forgotten him.
He’s a gargoyle, full of magic and a KISA (knight in shining armor). If you want to know more, just start from the beginning and read the GOE series.

Then there’s Bain. Exotic. Gorgeous. Gloriously male. And a dragon.

« Baine has possessed his share of lovers. He might not be like many dragons who felt the need to indulge their primitive urges with endless orgies, but he was a sexual animal who enjoyed the delights of the female body.
But he couldn’t ever remember carrying a woman before Tayla. Why would he? If a female was disabled he would call for a healer.
Now he discovered there was something utterly satisfying in having this particular female in his arms as he entered the small cottage that was a reflection of her deepest desire. »

And there’s Tayla.

« Are you prejudiced against my species? »
She looked genuinely shocked. « Of course not. »
Something eased deep inside him.
« Then why don’t you want me to want you? »
« Because I was bartered like a piece or property by my own father. » She wrinkled her tiny nose. « I’m supposed to be a martyr, not a willing victim. »

A mind-blowing mess, with dragons, and trolls, and gargoyles, and vampires.

I.
Loved.
It.

When the Guardians of Eternity series ended I was really sad to let it go but then I found out that I wouldn’t need to since the author decided to write a spin off. I was so damn excited!!!

The Dragons of eternity series book number one tells the story of Tayla, an imp and Baine, a dragon shifter.

Twenty five years ago, Tayla was kidnapped from her father’s shop where she worked and she was later sold to dragons by the trolls. What no one knew was that Tayla had a special gift and thus managed to escape from the dragon realm. But just because she escaped doesn’t mean she’s free. Tayla has been on the run for 25 years and the only thing she desires is a place to call home.

When Baine purchased the beautiful young imp the trolls sold to his father, the life he knew was over. The beautiful imp may have escaped once but now Baine has found her and he won’t lose her again.

Burned by darkness was beyond amazing. It was exploding! The chemistry was off the charts and so was the temperature.

I did have some reservations before reading the book because of my love/hate relationship with dragons. It’s not often that I happen to like dragons. I love supernatural creatures, dragons included but in most dragon books I’ve read (mostly romantic ones) they didn’t impress me. Of course there was Dragon Bound, which I loved but my point is that good explosive dragon, romance books are hard for me to find. So I was cautious about this book.

Burned by darkness isn’t only a romance. It had action, twists, mystery, suspense, very well guarded secrets, creatures that will make your skin crawl and incredible characters.

We get to see a lot of Levet. He was real fun to have around. There is also Char, Baine’s best friend and second hand who was great too.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Burned by Darkness and I can’t wait to read more!

I don’t know who’s next but I’m hoping is Char or someone equally awesome.

Highly recommended!

Yes I have a GR shelf for any book with Dragons. They are my shifter of choice, and Alexandra Ivy does NOT disappoint with this first book. Not that there was a question she would. She doesn't.

For 25 years Baine (love!) has waited to get his hands on the Imp, Tayla. His father bartered her for some of his precious treasure. She's his. But she's gone. And tracking her down will be the very last thing he does. Because dragons do not give up their treasure for anything!

Meinung:

Drachen gefallen mir sehr gut in solchen Büchern.

I just couldn't get into this story.  I love paranormal and fantasy stories, and I loved Alexandra Ivy’s Guardians of Eternity series.  But, this storyline just seemed really dumb to me.  Unfortunately, that never changed throughout the book.  Sorry, to say this story just didn’t speak to me at all.

I really love Ms. Ivy’s writing, so perhaps it’s time to try one of her contemporary romance novels.  Okay read.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 30, 2015

The Dragons of Eternity were once creatures of myth and legend. Now they’ve returned to the world, prepared to claim what’s rightfully theirs…

Tayla is desperate for a place to call home. After years on the run, the young imp impulsively buys a teahouse and is determined to build a new life. Unfortunately, she’s barely opened the doors when she’s tracked down by the dragon who purchased her from troll slave-traders. He demands she pay off her debts…in his harem.

Baine has devoted a quarter of a century to tracking down his beautiful concubine. And now that he has her in his grasp, he’s not about to let her go. But it’s soon apparent that he isn’t the only demon hunting her. He must uncover her secrets or risk losing her forever.

••••••••••

REVIEW: 3.75 stars-BURNED BY DARKNESS is the first installment in Alexandra Ivy’s adult, contemporary Dragons of Eternity paranormal romance series-a spin off from Alexandra’s Guardians of Eternity PNR series. This is dragon shifter Baine, and imp Tayla’s storyline. Our little gargoyle Levet crosses over and establishes himself a match making business .

Told from several third person perspectives BURNED BY DARKNESS finds our heroine on the run. For twenty five years Tayla has barely stayed one step ahead of the dragon who seeks Tayla as part of his hoard. What Tayla doesn’t know is that she is payment for a debt owed by someone close-someone she hasn’t seen or heard from in years. What ensues is a building relationship between Tayla and Baine, and Baine’s need to claim Tayla as his mate.

BURNED BY DARKNESS is a quick read that focuses on the history between dragons, imps, demons and fae. There is also a hierarchy of dragon power that finds Baine at the helm of his own following, but one that does not usurp the power of the man who sired our hero. Baine’s father wants Tayla for his own purpose, but Baine must ensure that Tayla is protected at all times.

The relationship between Tayla and Baine is acrimonious as Tayla has been on the run from Baine and his father. But there is a definite attraction between our leading couple, one that does not go unnoticed by a perpetually nosy gargoyle, or Baine’s assistant-half dragon-Char. The $ex scenes are limited in number; there is some spark and heat where it concerns Tayla and Baine’s sexual activity.

BURNED BY DARKNESS includes plenty of humor thanks to Levet and his inability to use modern English slang. Alexandra Ivy introduces her readers to another entertaining and wonderful paranormal series that is very similar in style, world building and supernatural character development as her successful Guardians of Eternity. I suspect there will be many cross over characters in future storylines.

This one is a bit hard to rate. While there are elements that I really like, the storyline itself is a little bit too straightforward.

I like this H a lot because he is just so adorably confused by what he is feeling. We get to be in his head which is essential for us to understand that he didn't mean some of the things he said to be what the h thought, and his actions were all carried out because he was besotted. Ivy is a great word weaver. You get to be bombarded by emotions in waves. Sometimes you can infer how deeply our H adores our h just with a sentence and a look that seems bossy or rude on the surface. I was very amused when the H kept acting all high and mighty demanding our h return to his harem or how she cannot leave until he agrees because he owns her. He obvious needed a little time to figure things out but we as readers definitely can sit back and enjoy the show.

Our h is a bit flat in comparison. While she is all good, soft and big hearted, yet still stands up to our H at times, we didn't really see anything that specifically stands out. She seems a not too interesting to me, to be honest.

Plot itself is pretty straightforward, while there is a mystery surrounding why everyone is going after our h and how the H solved this in the end, we never found out how she finally got tracked down in the end. There is some comic relief from other characters that helps push the story along, yet the main focus is still very much on these two.

Ivy also did a great job creating a world that is pretty much a template of what we know of dragons and otherworldly creatures, hence there isn't a need to explain it over much and destract us from the main story.

All in all, I enjoyed it quite a bit, despite a not too original plot and a pretty ordinary h, because of our adorably besotted yet still need to act high and mighty dragon lord. I hope the next installments will be just as enjoyable and definitely cannot wait to read more about Char.

This was not an epic 5 Star novel (actually it was more novella in length) but it WAS entertaining. The premise sounded good, the first few chapters created a much darker scenario than the book turned out to be and I enjoyed that it did.

The pretty much "insta-love" was present but was not done too badly like I have seen it done, the sex while maybe a bit too much for the length was not so overdone I felt like I was reading erotica so I enjoyed that, there was ample time spent on the plot which is where a lot of books of this nature fail.

The romance was a bit of love/hate for a bit, the usual "I don't like him/her but I can't stay away" was bit much but not enough for me to take any major deductions.

Bottom Line: I enjoyed the story, it was light but not too light. Just serious enough to keep the reader from considering it as fluff, so I will give it 4 Stars and Highly Recommended when you want something good but not too serious but still with enough to pull off a good plot, which this book did IMHO.

Tayla is the slave imp who escaped Baine and his evil father's harem 25 years ago. She's been hiding out from the dragons with our favorite gargoyle Levet until Baine gets picks up her scent. He tracks her down and will lay fire to anyone who tries to keep her away. I always enjoy Levet's comic relief, he and Tayla have a lot in common with their no good parents. Baine is powerful and stubborn, but Tayla is his match in every way. They got together a little quick, but considering the book length its to be expected. Also I would have liked Craven's character to be developed more, it felt like there was more to tell before his end. 4*
