The worst romance book ever!! Is this a joke?

Cheating, imprisonment, shes maimed, beatings, suicide attempts, sent to the madhouse.
the H tries to literally murder her, then ow (H ex) abuses her, shaves her head bald…
So while she was going through all of the above, he was cheating, sleeping with the woman who was torturing her.
He even marries the ow.

Then the h takes him back instantly without any grovel. I guess this really is a romance novel…it had a doormat h.

HEA with the h but she’s still not right in the head after the trauma the H and the ow put her through..

I have no words. Wow.

Bella and Claire has spoilers.

- this author also wrote one of the nasties books (book 1 in this series) where the H made the h lick his nasty dick and saggy balls free of dried blood, old cum from the night before to get clean. He didn’t even get aroused.

Just all around a nasty author who obviously hates women.
Never touching her books again.

I’ve never seen such an egregious lack of grovel, and I've read a LOT of dark books. This story wasn't very good but it was going okay until the last 30% or so, I might have given it 2.5 stars...but then, the hero put the heroine through a bunch of horrible stuff. Not just one thing, but like 20 different increasingly awful things! And after all that, she takes him back with no grovel and barely an apology.

After ALL THIS, all we get is some regret and a minor apology from him. That might have worked to make up for him being a dick and briefly not trusting the heroine, if that was all he'd done. It still would have been unsatisfying, but it wouldn't make this a confusingly awful book, just averagely bad. But his actions led to SO much worse, and the heroine's life is permanently ruined. He’s completely irredeemable, and the heroine is beyond a doormat for taking him back. This is one of the most unsatisfying books I've ever read, and I wish I could un-read it. It's bizarre, since the second and fourth book in this series are decent.

WTH was this???

Piece of advice for authors for such storylines ; write from both MC pov.

This was not romance. It was a diary - a sick diary. Also hero cheated on heroine for sure. There is no question about that. And they were only separate for 3 months at max and he had already married OW?!

Why was the evil OM (evil brother of H) allowed to walk away while the OW was punished??

I understand that the h was violated when she was 15 but I still didn't like it when she forgave the H so easily. The H and the ow broke her physically and mentally. And the H was responsible for her dad's death and probably her sister's too (we're not sure) and there is no mention of the ow being killed in the book (just that she was dealt with). The H chases his brother away but does not kill him. So, I can't digest the fact that the broken h forgave the H so fast.

This is a D/s type relationship (he does discipline her). I can't recall if he's a sadist....maybe? h is married off to him. H believes she's done something accused of by OW. OW just wants heroine's place by Hero's side. The H believes the evidence and has h put in jail. While in jail OW has heroine beaten and head shaved. Hero then calls heroine out for punishment and has her on her knees in the snow to have her executed but can't do it. He has his foot on her head in the snow and she's crying because she did nothing wrong and hero won't believe her.
She's very much obsessed and his "pet" so this is breaking her. He tells the guard to send her away. OW intervenes (unbeknownst to hero) and OW has her jailed and she's put through a LOT of punishment. heroine thinks hero ordered it, cause OW tells her so. heroine goes crazy and ends up in an asylum. She literally goes crazy, won't eat, sits in a chair and rocks herself, mumbling, etc. Then hero finds her.
He sees her scars and is horrified when he finds out truth. He send brother away anf kills OW (pretty sure he had sex with her in that time, because they married when h was "missing/presumed dead").
H and h have hea. h is still not right in the head and submissive 100%, H is kinda her dom/caretaker

let me just say, I could not put this book down! I was hooked from the first chapter. I felt all the emotions that Bianca experienced. Ms. Knight created real life characters in a bleak future.

Bianca is broken and her betrothed, Nico is repulsed by her. Her only option, Kent, Nico's brother. A broken person too. Together can these two broken people make it work? They soon find a rhythm to life, she needs his control and he needs her submission. Nico is whispering in Bianca's ear, filling her with doubt about Kent. It's hard to create life, when you don't trust.

I will admit I did cry. I felt terrible for Bianca. Yes the books ends with a HEA, but I felt like some things were unresolved. Like Ayden and Nico. Why did they do it?

“‘I like you this way. On your knees, legs spread, all open to me. It tells me you’re ready to please me in any way I want. At least I think it does.’”

5 dark, twisted stars! Wow… I have no words!

I won’t give too much away with my review. I will say this book is twisted, dark and dirty hot! If you like your dark books with some heat, then this is the book for you. I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I got this arc, but I’m so glad I read it! It’s full of suspense and intrigue, you’ll be hard pressed to find something you don’t like with this book! Kent and Bianca…. Ugh, I don’t think there’s enough I can say about these two. I’m a huge lover of all dark books, and I’d say this book ranks pretty high on my list!

The Other Brother
Heather Knight
3. 0 stars

Heather Knight is a new author to me and I have not read any of her books. This one arrived on my Kindle and I thought I would give it a try. There are some potential triggers in this book so beware.
Bianca our lead female finds herself in an arranged marriage in order to keep her father’s village safe from the raids of the armies led by General Barry. She is nineteen and innocent. Leaving her father to save the citizens is something she must do. Sacrificing herself to a brutal man is not what any girl her age wants for their life. Thinking she will seal a peace offering she accepts her fate but the plans go astray when something from the past is brought to light. Nico becomes sickened by her and refuses the marriage.

Kent intends on taking the young beauty and showing her everything he knows. His brother may not have wanted her but he will take her if he must. Teaching her the ways to please her husband might be fun after all. No one else wants him. His face along with his reputation keeps people at length. His mind is brilliant –

There are a few additional twist and turns in this book. I wont reveal too much but Nico is … wow. What a wreck that one is. Kent and Bianca do have an HEA but not without turmoil and heartache.
This book just wasn’t my cup of tea. I do love the dark and twisty stuff but I need more action and less saving. I love smexy times as well but this was pretty much all this book was. Again give me a deep story line with two character or more that are in the cross fire and add in the smexy … Im good to go … Now having said that if you love the beauty and the beast syndrome with the beauty a little more scarred herself then this one is for you. Click it up and read on!

Thank you for the ARC! Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets!

Wow, this book left me speechless for hours. Talk about WTF moment. There is one other book, where I wished h will actually kill herself and die. If you are curious then This Love Hurts by Nikita.

It started off pretty mild. Gil with a trauma was supposed to marry (arranged) one brother but after telling him she doesn't like to be touched, he runs far and fast. Enters older brother whose half face is disfigured by fire. He decides to marry her anyway.

I was at first very meh about H. He was kinda like beta male. Well, I didn't have to wait long to see psycho mode activation. He was heavily into bdsm and well h had a trauma. I have to applaud author by writing a rape survivors road to recovery really well.

Second half of the book is a huge freaking trigger itself. Honestly, I'm gonna lay it out for people who suffer from anxiety like myself and honestly it came all from a left field even after reading all reviews to understand a whole book before I'll read it.

h will suffer horrible acts of violence, thankfully no sexual (although she was raped when she was 15y old, off page). She's punched, slapped, whipped, burned, hair shaved off and tries to kill herself multiple times. She is mentally broken and needs someone to take care of her, her whole life.

Only thing what honestly got me so angry was H marrying his college girlfriend. That was so not cool.. I mean honestly 2months and he just decided hey let's do it. There was so much shit thrown on h and this was honestly not necessary.
(on his defense - he thought h is dead).

That aside, book was horrifically good. Like a horror romance, I would say.

I managed to finish this one but only barely.

It was awfully dark and not really my cuppa but I kept reading because it was VERY different from anything else I've read lately (truly, different from ANYTHING I usually read) and I don't normally go for the whole post-apocalyptic vibe but again, I was intrigued...

I'd probably read more from this author but probably not in this series. Again, a little too dark for my taste. If you like dark, twisty, with lots of sex, triggers, and a futuristic/post-apocalyptic bent, then this book, this ENTIRE SERIES will be right up your alley. I'll stick to the lighter fair. . .think I may have to read an angsty NA romance now to get over this one. . .

Almost liked this but there was too much telling versus showing, combined with incomplete story lines.

I don’t want to hear about end results, I want to see how we got there. For example, the characters who hurt the heroine are supposedly punished but we are only told that. After everything we read that was done by them, the heroine (and we) only get a line like “she won’t bother you again” or “he left”?

Also, some of the most important characters’ motivations were never really given or explored. Without that they seemed like bad guy caricatures.

To preface, I'd like to put a major disclaimer: this is a very DARK book with exploration of themes that can be very triggering for some audiences, such as rape, S&M, BDSM, suicide, and psychological abuse.

This is *by no means a romance* (at least by my definition). I was intrigued by this book because it is listed under "heroine injury with hero angst" (yes, it's a real thing and we don't have time to get into that) and I had never read a case of an arranged marriage where the H marries his brother's original bride (as was insinuated to me by the title and the excerpt).

"I want this. I long to please him. This is not abuse. It is not rape. It is protection."
This is significant of h's (Bianca) character. This girl (yes, she is nineteen and painfully too impressionable) does not know what love is, has never received love from any male figure in her life before, and certainly not from H. To me, this is a classic case of infatuation and mental manipulation (very largely by H's part). I mean... if you have to justify yourself this much for a man's affection, then there must be something really really wrong right? Your first instinct shouldn't have to tell you to be so defensive.

"His gaze holds me captive, and this both thrills and terrifies me. His face is a mixture of what all my dreams and nightmares are made of. Kent calms me; he frightens me. He guides me, but he pushes me too far. He soothes me, then excites me to unbearable heights. He is man and he is monster, and I am his."
Again, she idealises H a little too much and puts him on a pedestal. He is all mighty and right in her mind and this drives me nuts. Even after he orders for her death and is later indirectly responsible for her sister's disappearance, her kidnapping, her being marked/burned, and suicide attempt(S). After all these and more, she still finds a way to rationalise in her own twisted logic.

The level of psychological abuse H imparts on h (indirect and direct) is unacceptable. On a related note, I was having a difficult time feeling any level of remorse or angst from H throughout the story. Now, this could be due to the story being told entirely in h's POV. And H's character also plays a role in this (even more so in my opinion). I really liked H in the beginning, I admire his willingness in wanting to show h that consensual sex is very different from rape (in the beginning). As time goes on, I just didn't know what to think of him anymore. He somehow gets worse and worse in character development and his lack of emotions just puts another big barrier to convince me of any ounce of morality in him. Simply, I don't know if he is the good/bad guy here.

There are issues with pacing, there are no timelines as to when the plot takes place other than four years after the eruption at Yellowstone. We don't know how long after the vows that h begins her fantasy of love for H. Stating some period of time would have helped to put things into perspective (2 months vs 2 years) rather than leaving it entirely to the reader's interpretation. In my head, this all happens within the year of their marriage so I am on the skeptic side when it comes to believing h and H's character arcs.

Alas, I am glad to have read this book in the name of satisfying my adventurous side of genre exploration. Truthfully, I would probably not recommend this book to any of my reading friends nor would I consider re-reading, but never say never!

This is my first Heather Knight book and I am greatly impressed by the world-building and background setting of the post-apocalyptic depiction of the US in the Snow and Ash series.
This is a short read, relatively fast-paced, standalone, has a debatable HEA, contains minor ow/om drama, lots of triggers, mature, and definitely not for the faint-hearted.

This is book three in the snow and ash series and after reading this story I rushed back to read books one and two. This story of Kent and Bianca touched me in different ways. Bianca broke my heart with how broken she was and how alone she felt. She did not like to be touched and others took advantage of her at each turn. She had no one to trust. When she reveals her secret to her fiancé she is immediately rejected again. His brother Kent steps in to fulfil the promise of marriage and takes Bianca as his wife. I was so angry at Kent because he slipped under my radar. In the beginning he is kind and considerate but later in the story he turns into a monster or so we think. This story was full of twists that I never saw coming. Bianca is a survivor and no one in this story deserves her. I just wanted to hug her. She is an unforgettable character and so is this series. It is not necessary to read books one and two but I highly recommend it because each story is unique and amazing in themselves.

I really wanted to give this more stars but the lack of resolution or at least explaining what resolution there was, spoiled it for me.

Cheating = H flirts with OW in front of h, shuts h down when she questions it; H later goes on to marry the OW after only verbally telling the h he is divorcing her. We have to assume that there was some kind of consummation of the marriage to the OW but it is not explained at all

h sees H with OW = h sees the flirting as mentioned above

OW drama = OW (we think as it is not really expressed stated as such) is in H's ear to sow doubts about the h; OW tortures and maims the h horribly; what's the repercussion? I dunno other that we will not see the OW again as stated by the H with a smirk that the h interprets as the H enjoying what H did to OW (was it sexual? was it in retaliation for the h? did he torture and maim her?????? WHAT HAPPENED?????!!! UGH)

SA/R = not on page but recounted from memory of h who was SA'ed by 5 men at the age of 15 brutally

Grovel = Um....yeah, coming up blank. Nothing is explained about how the H grovels. Other than H takes responsibility for the very traumatized and mentally/emotionally broken h and happily will keep her hidden and locked away as his little love slave.

Again, I needed to know what happened to the OW...What happened to the brother of the H who participated in the rumor mongering and later torture/maiming of the h??? The brother was a tool, but all we are told is that H sent him "home"...Again, WTF???!! Brother was a big part of torturing/maiming the h and later after H and h have met up again, brother sends troops to kill h (stopped by the H), but yeah H, just send him "home"

This book is unlike any other. It is gruesome, absolutely painful to read, especially the events that happen.

When two broken people are forced to undergo a political marriage, their souls grasp to each other, trying to find a foothold to keep afloat. Bianca needed Kent's dominance, especially in the ever-changing climate they live in. Kent needed her obedience and her allegiance. However, living in a world where people always battle to be the strongest, the more dominant, the lead person, can these two stay in their safe bubble forever?

With an evil instigator that continually tries to create doubt assisted by a politically motivated ex to stay in power, these two goes through one of the most brutal and heartwrenching events they are forced to face.

Can love and trust keep them afloat?

I truly cannot believe this story even existed. It was painful in its delivery but absolutely such an inspiring story of strength and forgiveness. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but it is beyond anything I have ever had the chance of reading. It is war. And war is not pretty.

But it is real in its beauty, I felt for both Bianca and Kent. Their individual selves that are trying to find the balance in each other while facing a war that keeps distrust alive.

Truly enjoyed their story.

Woah where do I begin? I just finished this book and I have a lot of mixed emotions. First off, I expected way more groveling from the Hero, more sympathy, more sorrow, more groveling for what he did to her. But what really irked me is the heroine. She was not even mad at him, not even a little bit for all the things he put her through. That's what pissed me off the most. But other than that one bit, I absolutely love this apocalyptic world is very cool and unique. And I love that he is extremely dominating, commanding, and controlling while she is very submissive and soft toward him, not stubborn or defiant. Btw he is a commanding colonel soldier...*drools!* This book actually will stay with me and I enjoyed everything except for her not being mad at him.

The other brother

Well this took a massive left turn that i did not see coming!! It's been a long time since I've been surprised by a book! This was brutal, if you have triggers be very wary. The only things that would have raised this to a five star read is if there had been more of a grovel and i wanted to know what happened to Ayden, even if he didn't want to say i really wanted to know.

Heart in shreds

This book is an emotional rollercoaster. A broken Bianca is married off to Kent in order to secure an alliance. He gains her trust, works with her broken pieces to create a new whole. Then a twist of fate obliterate the new happiness that Bianca found. Kent asked her to trust but never truely gave trust in return. This spells a deep spiral into madness for Bianca. Yes, there is somewhat of a redemption by Kent, but the reader is able to acknowledge that both Kent and Bianca know that it will take a lifetime of repentance. We do have a HEA but the emotional scars will remain for Bianca, and Kent will always live with the knowledge he can ease the pain but never fully heal Bianca again. A wonderfully emotive read.

The book has many triggers for sensitive readers, please exercise caution.

Heather Knight is a new author to me and I am honored to be able to review her book, The Other Brother, (A Snow and Ash #1). On a side note: This dark romance novel contains mature situations and sensitive subject matter, and contains triggers some readers may find discomforting. It is a work of fiction and is intended for adult readers 18 and older.

The Sacrifice: Bianca Mason is the key to keep her father’s citizens a live if she marries a Barry family member, but when she reveals a traumatic secret her assigned groom refused to marry her. Guilt wraps around her, but before it suffocates her, another offer is made when another brother steps in to take his place.

The Savage: Kent, the other brother is known for his brilliant leadership and military strategies, but no one sees that when half his face is covered in burn scars. Bianca however, is the first person to look beyond the scar that covers his face. He feels that she can see the him which leads him to step in and marry Bianca.

Kent must teach Bianca, as only he can, how to surrender herself fully, trust in him completely, and become the woman he needs. Only then can they both find happiness.

Heather Knight was able to transfer me into the story as Kent and Bianca become one. I loved that Kent went to lengths to make his wife see that sex can be passionate and filled with love instead of fear and hate. Also the chemistry between Kent and Bianca is undeniable and certainly steams up the pages as you continue to read. I love the way Bianca grew not only into a woman, but finally comfort Kent when he felt ashamed by his scar. (Totally a fist pump moment for me). The only confusion I had was what century or perhaps custom Kent and Bianca was from because at certain part in the story I felt like I was in two different centuries. I also felt like there were a lot of unanswered question even though the story does end in a happy ever after. Overall I still loved the pace of the story and the balance between Kent and Bianca.

Warning: This is a dark romance and as such it contains scenes of a sensitive nature that some readers may find discomforting.

The Other Brother is the third book in the Snow and Ash Series. It takes place four years after the volcano erupted and in volcanic winter. This is the story of Bianca Mason and Kent Barry. Bianca is given to Kent to marry after his brother Nico refuses to marry her. It is a marriage for political gain for an alliance between the Kent and Barrys. Bianca was gang raped when she was 15, just after the volcano erupted. When she told Nico this, it was too much for him to handle, so he took off. Kent, agrees to the union, though he has his own demons because half of his face is scarred from burns.

They marry and Kent decides to slowly earn Bianca's trust and guide her into sex by showing her what it can be like between two consenting, loving adults. And things go wonderful...for awile.

I won't get into the rest of the book because it will ruin the surprise, but things drastically change for the couple and scenes as I mentioned, may be difficult for some readers to deal with. I know I shed a few tears at what Bianca had to endure through this book, and I certainly changed my mind a few times as to my felling about Kent. Loved him, hated him, loved him again. And isn't that the sign of an excellent read? Great job Heather Knight, I'm looking forward to this series continuing.

I received an ARC for an honest review of this book!

Shattered beyond belief and I am shaking, cannot put into words, I do not think my review will put justice to how much I devoured this but here goes. Bianca is such an amazing character, she is this story pure and simple, the trauma she suffered before being placed in an arranged marriage and then to go on and become this woman who can trust again – brilliant. This story surprised me, gripped me, made me shudder and have pure fear and terror for Bianca and then to follow her journey, even now I am still in disbelief. The way the author carried Bianca through different physical and mental scenes was beyond brilliant.
I have not read any of the other Fire and Ash books and it did not affect my understanding.
This book was so sensual and dominating, had amazing sexual scenes that were erotic but then had some really dark romantic and physically horrific scenes so you have been warned – I loved them as I love dark stuff that makes me shudder.
The ending was healing, Bianca finds peace in her life, the understanding of other characters and what she needed. I could not come to accept other characters and their actions to what happened to Bianca, I was glad we were given closure and answers – well expect for Tish?
Wonderful standalone dark erotic romantic tale – I would give more than 5 starts if I could.

This was my first time reading anything by Heather Knight, and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this this romance story. This story is a dark romance novel that contain mature situations and also has some sensitive subject matters that may be sensitive to some readers, and may make you feel uncomfortable .But even if it's a work of fiction this is intended for adults . This is Kent and Brianca romance story. Brianca is a woman that will touch your heart in different ways ,she will also break your heart with just how broken she really is. And just how alone she really feels. The one thing she didn't like was to be touched ,and so many took advantage of her , very chance they had. There just wasn't anyone she could trust. But when she tells her fiance about her secret ,he immediately rejects her. But then her ex-fiance's brother Kent just steps in to fulfill the promise of marriage ,and that Brianca as his wife. As I was reading this story I liked Kent he was kind and he seemed considerate ,but later on I couldn't stand him.Specially when he turned into a beast so you will think .Heather Knight has given us a story ,with twists and turns that you will not see coming .And Briana's character is such a survivor and I feel that on one in this story was right for her,she deserved so much more. I could tell you more ,about this story but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this story, you won't be disappointed.
