An Affair of Honor by Heather Boyd. A very steamy Regency Historical Romance. Book 2 in Ms. Boyd's steamy novel "Rebel Hearts" Series, but can be read as a stand alone. See "The Wedding Affair".
First, let me say this is a very steamy Regency Romance, with BDSM, spanking, submission, and sensual encounters.

Captain William Ford, a Naval Officer who has come home badly wounded and disfigured. He is the grandson of a Duke, weathy in his own right, who enjoys, what some would call, depravity in his sensual encounters.
Matilda Winslow, a doctor's daughter, who has had to go into service in order to survive. Is a housemaid in William's household. She's a bit naive, but a very sweet heroine.
A steady paced Regency Romance, with many facets to the characters. The storyline is a bit unique, and interesting. A marriage of convenience, secrets, challenges, a dilemma or two, spanking, submission, steamy, hot sensual encounters and filled with rare emotion.
William, is a hard man, has issues, he is possessive, has what some would call, sensual depravity, but he is also very sensitive to his disfigurement, and a dry humor. I would dare to say, William has PTSD, as well as, flashbacks to the sea battle. Matilda, is honest, forthright, has an innocence about her that is appealing as well as, a bit too submissive, to me. However, both William and Matilda, and some of the other characters are engaging, likeable, if not a bit overwhelming, at times.
Overall, a great multifaceted story, with some unique twists and turns.

But, can a marriage of convenience turn into an epic love story? Or will a misconception, when, revealed, destroy the blossoming love between William and Matilda?
The one thing I would have liked clarified, is, after William's battle at sea, where he's severely wounded, and brought home to die, there is mention of someone trying to kill him, but never followed up upon.

Ms. Boyd, has written this story with a flare for the unpredictable, integrity, and a willingness to bring readers a great, while, steamy Regency Romance. An enjoyable and satisfying read! A great read! Fans of Erotic Romance, Regency Romance, epic love stories with a few twists and turns, and characters who are charming, as well as, likeable.
*If you are not a fan of Erotic, hot, steamy romance, this may not be a story you will enjoy.*

I like the plot. I didn’t like the BDSM stuff. Spankings. I didn’t know it was this kind of book.

Historical with Spanking

This historical novel unlike others by Heather Boyd has spanking in it and it is a major part of the plot. Some people might find this to be a turn off, but me well I liked it quite a bit. I thought that the spanking scenes were well done and they fit in with the story well. I particularly liked this story and I really recommend it to everyone who likes historical romances and spanking.

I couldn’t resist continuing on with the series, I just had to know every characters story and how they’ll get their happy ending. Overall I’m very pleased with this series, the world building and Boyd’s writing. So captivating.

The hero completely broke my heart. Oh William. Oh marriage of convenience. Thriving. I was absolutely thriving. William, sorry, Captain William, had to leave the sea life behind, but instead of wanting to rejoin the hustle and bustle of society he just wants to take a step back and live a quiet life. Obviously that is not going to happen. Nope. Once he enters society again he’s thrown into the marriage mart and all the scheming mothers, fathers and women. It’s not until he meets Matilda, an absolute dear and a housemaid, and they come up with a plan that will benefit them both. It was only meant to be protection for both of them, but of course, this is a romance story so it’s obviously not going to be that smooth. They gradually fall in love and it was wonderful to read. A slow, beautiful burn. The extra spice was a wonderful addition and wasn’t expected, but welcome.

As one door closes another opens for Captain William Ford. Forced to leave behind his life of sea-faring command, he seeks to settle into a less adventurous role of society living. Easier said then done. Thrown into a sea of scheming marriage minded women he's at a loss on how to navigate these potentially lethal waters until he meets Matilda and comes up with a plan that will help them both. Matilda seeks the security of making her own choices and not having to answer to anyone or beg for anything. William seeks protection from societies vultures seeking a man of means. A mutually beneficial marriage of convenience is just the ticket to give each what they want. Protection, an expiration date and financial security was the plan but fate had other ideas. I received an ARC of An Affair of Honor in exchange for an honest review. No matter how many I read, Heather Boyd's novels are always at the top of my historical romance lists.

After the death of her father Matilda Winslow has had to go into service as a maid. The one rule she knows she must keep is to stay away from the master of the house. When he returns from the war, horribly injured and on the edge of death Matilda is the only one who fights to save him.
Captain William Ford is used to being in total control of everything. After his return from war he is unfit for duty, and has a need to reassert his natural dominance. His father is determined to marry him off, and William is not interested in the chosen woman. He comes up with a scheme to get his own way, by bulldozing over everyone else's objections.
This is an historical romance with a BDSM flavour. The sex scenes are not graphic, but are hot. Our hero is not a particularly nice man but he is an honourable one. He is nowhere near as confident as he wants to be. Our heroine is a little too submissive for her own good, but that is just what our hero needs.
A very enjoyable book.

The prologue sets the tone of this book – fans self!!! William is very much the tortured hero and Matilda is very much the innocent. But their relationship works – strange as it is. It is hard to imagine what it must be like to live day in and day out with nightmares, scars and emotional stress. And I am just guessing but it seems William’s coping mechanism is control in every aspect of his and his lovers’ lives. The warmth and care that Matilda shows William during his recovery is so sweet that how can she not want to be close to him in all ways. It is a good thing that she seems to like his controlling nature and even eggs him on…naughty wife. I worried that Matilda would never stand up for herself but there is a point she realizes that William selfishly forced his wants on her and she finally stands her ground. This is a little darker romance but it works. Ms. Boyd’s books always deliver.

I love a scarred war hero story, so when I read the blurb on this one I had to read it. I found it a satisfying take on the theme. William was a perfect war hero who, after almost dying, clings to a life of strictness and order. His maid Matilda, who saved his life, becomes his obsession. While I didn't particularly like Matilda all that much she did grow on me as the story progressed. I did, however, enjoy the relationship between William and Matilda. I was anticipating their attraction for each other growing and was eager to see where it would take them. The slight BDSM scenes between them were steamy and erotic. They were in keeping with William's character of rigidity and discipline. I found the story overall entertaining and engrossing.

'An Affair of Honor' by Heather Boyd is book two in the "Rebel Hearts" series. This is the story of Captain William and Matilda. This book for me took me in from the first pages when Matilda finds something of the Captain that maybe she shouldn't or is that should have? Anyway this was another great read by Ms. Boyd. Matilda ends up helping to save Captain life along with ending up trying to help him out run a marriage minded miss. Can these two bargain themselves into a life together?

I really enjoyed this story. I like when the H/H of a story are of different classes as it adds an interesting twist as the story unfolds. Henry and Matilda were both fighting the attraction they felt for the other, but since they knew that it wouldn't be proper for anything to happen, the tension just kept building. When William needed help, it was just what they needed to give into their desires.

This is a BDSM story, so it might not appeal to everyone.

Thanks go out to LLD Press via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

This is really about the relationship between William and Matilda. Mattie goes from housemaid to wife and William from a Captain in the Navy to husband - gradually falling in love with each other.
The spankings were spicy and I think this added to the story a great deal. It made the reading of it more complete.
It was nice (I don't really like using that word) to see their relationship grow with trust and love.
All day long a 5*

A rare treat in this genre due to BDSM. Still more sweet than depraved.
