It’s amazing how much negative thinking we can have in our life without even realizing it. I consider myself a pretty positive person, however there are events in my life and things that have happened that can turn on that negative stinkin thinkin.
The author goes in depth with his teachings and stories relating to removing those labels that hold you back. Even from the very first chapter his words hit home with me in so many ways. I recognized words and thoughts that I did not realize I was doing to myself. What an eye opening!
He goes into reprogramming your mind and removing negatively labels so that you can release your full potential in life. Whether that’s business, family or personal gains, we are promised victory by God. the only way to realize those is by allowing our mind to be free of distraction and negativity that embraces our lives.
There are so many sections in this book that I wanted to print out and highlight so that I can remember to speak words of positivity and value in life. Joel teaches us how to remove the negative labels and relearn the positive thinking and positive outcomes due to us.
This book is a wonderful motivation and it is one that I have been reading over and over. If you are stuck in a rut in your life or in your business, this is a book you need to pick up. It is one that I will be using many times over reinforcement of positive messages.
I was in terrible need of something inspiring to read. Not even the Cubs winning the World Series after 108 years could pull me from this weird slump I've been in lately. To top it off, we've been having amazing weather the last few weeks here in the greater Chicagoland area... yet, here I was. Stuck and in an irreversible circle of blah.
So, I decided to take a stab at reading something positive. Joel Osteen's Think Better, Live Better: Deleting Negative Thoughts, Labels, and Attitudes reared it's shiny head in my Kindle's carousel. Let me be clear, I'm not religious nut or zealot (although I have no problem with them... I have quite a few in my family), I don't think you need to be to feel inspired by the words of encouragement provided in this read.
I'm not sure if it's because I was raised in a religious home, but at times I find comfort in the stories of the Bible where people are faced with unbelievable odds and still triumph. REALLY, don't we all cheer for the underdog? So, I knew going forward with this book, like in other's I've read by Osteen, that biblical references would be used to make a point. But, thankfully for those Bible-phobes, he includes his own real life experiences and those of people he's met, to get his point across that it's important to delete negativity from our minds.
Joel Osteen continuously drills into the readers that we aren't who we are labeled to be and are in fact perfectly made. We are not the person who was called "fat", "ugly", or "stupid". That we are not bound to the limitations given to us by man. It is imperative to our success that we remove doubt and live our lives free of the chains placed on us. I needed to hear this. I needed to know that I don't suck so bad. And, although I really think there's a target on my back at work, that none of the weapons used against me will succeed. I'm great at my job and I will continue to thrive in the company I work for because the darts and spears thrown by my enemies will not succeed.
Readers beware!!!! Think Better, Live Better is actually very repetitive. It's conversational tone does not do anything to hide this flaw. Honestly, it did get a little annoying, but ironically, I deleted that negative thought and figured, I need to stop being so negative. This man wrote a novel to encourage me and help me to be a better person. The least I can do is hear him out... over and over again. If I had let that negativity set in, I would have missed all the small gems such as not waking up in the morning in neutral. Instead, wake up claiming it to be a great day.
Joel Osteen's section on allowing, or renting space, to worries or negativity speaks volumes to me. I am the queen of worry. Even writing my reviews, I worry so much on not offending someone that I have to take a step back and remember I must be honest.
In conclusion, Think Better, Live Better: Deleting Negative Thoughts, Labels, and Attitudes was just what I needed to get out of the slump I've been in the last few weeks... actually probably my whole life. Sure, Osteen has made clear to me that restructuring my thinking will take time, but I'm willing to take the journey. It's inspiring to think of the possibilities that lie ahead if I can just put in the work of thinking better.
Think Better, Live Better: Victorious Living Starts in Your Mind. Joel Osteen delivers an uplifting and inspiring message, with powerful words to empower and motivate.
Change the way you think, in order to see the positive changes in your life. Reprogram.
As always, Osteen focuses on the positive, and reiterates a message for the downtrodden. A way to pick yourself up. A way out of your struggles. Whether it be your environment, health, financial, family dysfunction, or any part of your life. God meant for us to be extraordinary, not ordinary.
Broken out in "easy to read" chapters: • Reprogram Your Mind • Remove Negative Labels • Release the Full You • Think Yourself to Victory • Pregnant with Possibility • The Promise Is in You • Ask Big • You Have What You Need • Keep Your Crown • Just Remember
Osteen reminds readers - our minds are like a computer. We all must deal with computer viruses, and in a similar way when God created us, he put in the correct software for a victorious, healthy, strong and creative person. We were programmed to live an abundant, victorious, faith-filled life. That is how we were designed.
The reason we do not always experience this abundant life, is that we have allowed viruses to contaminate our software. We are infected, stay negative, and do not believe our dreams will come to pass. However, we can get rid of the viruses. If our thinking is limited our life will be limited.
When you think better, you will live better.
If we are going to reach our highest potential, we must learn to Hit the Delete Button. "Delete. Delete." Restore. Guarding your Mind. Stop dwelling on the negative and allowing the enemy to contaminate your software. If he can control your thinking, he can control your life. It is not too late. Clear out the negative things people say. Reprogram.
The battle takes place in our minds. From our environment. God did not make us faulty. Clear out the viruses. Remove labels holding you back.
Our God is supernatural and he is not limited by education, background, race, or family. You are not who people say you are. From additions, struggles, and bad habits. See what you can become. We are not meant to be ordinary. We are created to soar.
I really enjoyed Chapter Four: Think Yourself to Victory. Meditate (think about over and over). However, Meditating is the same principle as worrying. When you worry, you’re just meditating on the wrong thing. Using your faith in reverse.
If you go through the day worried about family, finances, and your future, it causes you to be anxious, fearful, negative and discouraged.
In our world of doom and gloom, watching the news, stock market, politics, debt crisis, and fear of financial loss, it causes more havoc. You can choose to meditate on the problem or you can meditate on the promises.
The whole key is what’s going on in you "thought life." What are you meditating on? Problems or Promises? Just because you don’t see anything doesn’t mean it’s not going to come to pass. Just because you are struggling with dysfunction in your home or business, fighting a battle with health or illness, do not stay discouraged.
The healing is within you. It’s just a matter of time to turn it around with better thoughts. Possibilities. The seed is still alive. What you allow to play in your mind will determine what kind of life you live. There is no room for doubt, unbelief, anxiety, fear, or depression.
Signature Osteen style, the author uses personal relatable stories combined with faith, Biblical scriptures and important Bible characters and leaders, with special callouts and highlights of reinforcement, encouragement, and reminder messages for your daily life. (This also could serve as a daily devotional).
Guard your mind, heart, and spirit, as you would your home or other valuables. Stop renting out space in your mind to problems. Who and what is staying in your house? Sometimes in order to stay in faith, you must ignore a negative report. You were made for more.
Don’t let your own thoughts, your environment, or those around you discourage you. You have the greatness. Keep believing. Keep doing. Do not accept rejection, failure, disappointments, and defeat.
We never know how many gifts are in us right now, just waiting to be released. Do not miss your destiny. Always remember to ask big. The enemy’s main tool is deception.
An ideal book and message for all of us living in today’s time of turmoil. We all need a positive affirmation and reminder that we have what we need. Don’t let a loss or a disappointment carry away your blessing. It is not the end, but a new beginning.
“Your perception of yourself will determine what kind of life you live.”
Rediscover who you really are. We never know what is going on behind the scenes, preparing for God’s greatness.
A special thank you to FaithWords, Center Street and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have listened to his radio program, seem his television show and read his books. His message is positive and always shown, talked, or written about in a way that seems to speak directly to whatever may be going on in my life at the time. It is a down to earth approach to positive affirmation and given with the word of God. Joel Osteen has made this message something people from all walks of life can relate to and even if you don't want to call the higher power you relate to God you can find the positive message in his words. I would like to thank the Publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this ARC.
A Nice Positive Message.....I Always love his positive message. Remembering to rid ourselves of negativity and combat those thoughts with something positive.
Your mind has incredible power over your success or failure. This book offers a simple yet life-changing strategy for deleting the thoughts that keep you down and reprogramming your mind with positive thinking to reach a new level of victory. Joel Osteen uses truths from the Bible to illustrate how God wants us to live a victorious life. I found this book intriguing and was grateful to have the ability to read it. I found its message simple, yet profound. We all feel things about ourselves, but when they’re all negative, we start a negative self-fulfilling prophecy. But, if we start looking towards God and His message, we will open our minds up to positivity. An Advanced Reading Copy was received in exchange for an honest review.
Like most Joel O'Steen books, Think Better, Live Better is packed full of encouragement. He gives some great analogies to help you relate to the situations. He encourages you to delete the bad memories and the bad thoughts that keep scrolling through your head. You have control of your thoughts. Guard your mind. One of the points he made is hurting people end up hurting other people. One thing that really hit home for me was when he talked about worrying is the same principle as meditating; you're just meditating on the wrong things. I recommend this book especially if you need help controlling negative thoughts.
“You were programmed to live an abundant, victorious, faith-filled life,” Osteen writes. “That's how your Creator designed you” (2) But we have allowed our thinking to be faulty. We have not guarded our minds like Scripture tells us. We need to clear out all the negative thinking and not let it take root. We are to meditate on what God says about us, getting rid of negative labels and believing God's labels.
Osteen has written a very encouraging book to help us do all that. He reminds us that our worth comes from God, not what people think about us. We are to keep our minds focused on God oriented thoughts and God's promises. God sees the potential He has placed within us. We are to ask for big things, making sure they are advancing God's kingdom.
Osteen has certainly reminded us of the importance of our thoughts. Controlling our thoughts is essential for our becoming who God created us to be. He tells lots of stories of people today and from the Bible to illustrate why our thoughts are so important.
Osteen also reminds us that we have what we need to fulfill our destiny. “God has given you exactly what you need for the season you are in.” (147) If we come to a point of lack, God will then supply what we need.
I was glad to see that Osteen wraps it all up by reminding us that all is a result of the mercy and goodness of God. God has the final say in our lives. We can accomplish great things for the kingdom of God only because of God's goodness and we should be telling people that.
On a theological note, Osteen makes no reference to original sin nor its effects on people. I was happy to see that there is a very clear invitation to salvation at the end of the book.
I recommend this book to those who need reminding that, “Your perception of yourself will determine what kind of life you live.” (167) You will receive much encouragement to be confident in what God says is true about you. This book is good for those suffering from what Osteen calls “spiritual amnesia.” If you have forgotten who you are in Christ, you'll get reminded of it here.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
Helpful things to give you strength to see you goals come to life. Osteen writes the way he preaches. With a down home honesty that makes him like able
This is the latest book by Joel Osteen. For those who don't know him, he is the pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. He took over in 1999 when his father died. In 2003, the church moved into the former Compaq Center, where the Houston Rockets of the NBA used to play basketball. His sermons are broadcast every week on various cable channels.
This book, like his others, is a collection of his sermons. This concept by itself is not new. Priests and ministers of all religions have been publishing collections of their sermons for many years. I focused on the content of the sermons. To me, they felt like something I would read in The Secret, only with Bible references. The themes are eliminate negativity, you have possibilities, good things are coming your way, God wants you to have abundance, just believe. It's good to believe all these things. It's just not enough.
First, there are some things that will never happen, no matter how much you believe. I am 52 years old with major health problems, and have never been very athletic. I will never play professional sports. The Vikings will never call me to replace someone in their starting lineup. I can believe, I can tell myself it will happen, but it's not happening. It's not meant to be. That needs to be there.
Second, there's nothing in here about taking action. For many years, I wanted to write a novel. I could think about it, I could believe, but until I sat down at my laptop and actually started writing, it wasn't going to happen. It did happen, and I published my book, Operation Mermaid: The Project Kraken Incident, late last year. The inspiration helped, but not without action.
Third, he talks about abundance. I wonder what he thinks of this Bible story. I'm paraphrasing Mark 10:17-27. A rich man went to see Jesus, and asked, "What must I do to gain eternal life?" Jesus told him, "Keep the commandments. Don't lie, don't steal, honor your father and mother." The rich man said, "I've done all these things. What more must I do?" Jesus looked at him with love and said, "Sell everything and give to the poor. Then you can follow me." The rich man walked away sad, for he had many possessions. Then Jesus turned to his disciples and said, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven." On the one hand, Joel Osteen is saying God wants you to have abundance and be rich. On the other hand, Jesus is saying it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. How do you reconcile those two?
The book is OK as far as it goes. It's just incomplete.
Think Better, Live Better is a classic Joel Osteen book. His books have a way to leave a lasting imprint on your heart. This book will help you to realize how you think determines how you live. Tune out the negativity, doubt, and all the internal voices that say you can't and tune in to your calling. Your calling that God has planned for you. Once you close out all the negativity you can begin to live the life God has always planned for you. You will be abundantly blessed. Something that will stay with me is how easy the words that Joel Osteen speaks in his books are pretty much common sense, however, for what ever reason, we aren't listening and we are doing just the opposite in our everyday life. I loved how he demonstrated about worrying. Worrying is like to mediate on the wrong. Why would you do this. You can reach a new level of victory if you stop thinking negative thoughts. You will be blessed if you don't let negative thoughts rent space in your mind and soul. It's time to put that eviction notice on the door and time to engage in the present and positive of each and every day. Don't block your blessings with these negative thoughts.
This is one amazingly inspirational & motivational book out here. It's so easy to follow. You'll be thinking why haven't I done this sooner. God is ALWAYS with us. This is a book you'll go back to and re-read again and again.
Change your thoughts, dream BIG and then set forth and follow your dreams. Be a goal digger. Live the blessed life you were made to live. Change your thoughts, change your ways. This book is an easy to follow guide on how to change your thought process and to begin living a blessed lifestyle.
I was given this book by NetGalley and the publisher for a honest review.

God Bless You Brother Joel!! This Book is Just as Great a Blessing to Me as Others You Have Written...
As I read this book, the words written struck my heartstrings, letting me know God was speaking through them! I have walked through so many self-created storms where I thought I was out for the rest of the game, down for the entire count, sidelined for the rest of my life. But, after reading this book, I know that on January 1st, 2019, God placed His Crown of Honor back on my head! And this time, with The Holy Spirit's help, I'll never give it up again!!!!!!! I know God still has a mission for me and His destiny for me is still FULLY IN FORCE! God bless you, Brother Joel! Oh, and the testimony of how God pushed that semi into the next lane, it was The Holy Spirit Himself in that wind!
Think Better, Live Better: Victorious Living Starts in Your Mind by Joel Osteen is a motivational book about changing your thoughts and chasing your dreams. If you like the style of Osteen’s sermons, you’ll like this book. In fact, while reading the book, it’s very easy to imagine Osteen’s voice and inflection saying the words, as if he were giving a sermon.
The book is light, quick reading. It’s the kind of book you might like to read when you’re feeling down and need some encouragement. Obviously, Osteen’s advice about reprogramming your mind and reaching your goals will not fix all of your issues or problems. However, Think Better, Live Better is a positive, inspirational book, and it reminds readers that God is always with us.
ARC received courtesy of NetGalley and the Publisher, in exchange for an honest review
If I could describe Joel Osteen with just 2 words, they would have to be "simplistic theology." I say this because he presents the "Message" in a very simplistic and easy to understand way, that just about anyone can understand. In my opinion, this book is a restatement of his message, but it's packaged for the Millennial generation. That's not to say that I wasn't able to relate, but I could see who the target audience was in this instance.
What a life changing book - then again when are his books not life changing? He is definitely Blessed to be able to get across to the reader that our minds are like computers and we have let viruses - self doubts and negative thoughts come in - and kill the motherboard - we need to delete any emails that could come our way that are contaminated with viruses - ie - do not speak negatively over our lives for it will come true in our life. It goes from there - it is pretty intense and definitely conclusive in how you learn to reprogram your brain to think and believe GOD has a plan for your life and it is a doosie, and it is abundant. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
"You are going to become what you believe." (Joel Osteen, Think Better, Live Better)
Awesome book! Time to renew our minds by the Word of the Living God. You are above, not beneath. You are the head and not the tail. Joel Osteen helps us to see how God sees us. He shows us how to delete and transform our poverty mentality that is holding us down and keeping us from reaching our purposes, dreams, visions and goals. To become all that God has created us to be!
You will be encouraged as you listen or read this book. I listened to the audio book and it was awesome to hear the voice of Joel Osteen declare the promises of God over my life.
Today is the day to think better and therefore live better. Joel Osteen will show you the way.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book because it was short and it sounded like a good book. But it was SO repetitive. I didn't think this would be so much of a self-help book. I expected this to be a book about thinking more about your faith and how it will help you live better. Instead, this book was filled with cliche and cheesy phrases and examples. It was all about the power of positive thinking. I'm sure this book would be good for some people and they could really get a lot of help from this. But it just wasn't for me. I did finish the whole book though.
I like the positive vibes in Joel Osteen's books and sermons. Sometimes I think these are a little sparse when it comes to action, but even with that said, I still enjoy his positive outlook and lessons.
This one was a defeinitely repetitive but there were two things going for it. I liked the way he not only used scripture stores but also how he mixed in his personal experiences to keep the pace going. It added interest and as I listened to the audio it didn't come across as redundant. So 4 stars.
Joel Osteen's books are inspiring on a simple level. He reminds us that we have the power to change our lives for the better. In Think Better, Live Better, Joel Osteen encourages us to ignore negative thoughts from others and from ourselves. Nothing worthwhile will be handed to you. Work for it. Be your own best friend. Open your minds to God and live a fulfilled life. All of Osteen's books are similar in thought because his positive message is constant.
Since I first starting reading this book, I trained my mind to rethink negative thoughts into positive thoughts. Of course, its continuous training but its working for me. I encourage anyone who has too many negative thoughts to check it out. Its a very easy yet powerful read.
Whether you like Joel Osteen or not, be open minded to his messages. I don’t think he’s trying to “get me” to donate or join his Church. I think he is trying to spread a message of peace within and love. Thank you Joel Osteen - message well received!
Another fabulous book by my buddy Joel! His words really inspire me to be a better person. Like all of his books, I give this one a solid Five Star review!
