Bill Johnson and his wife Brenda (Beni) Johnson are the Senior Pastors of Bethel Church in Redding, California. Johnson is a fifth generation pastor.
Johnson was born in Minnesota in 1951 and became a Christian as a young child. Soon after, Johnson read seven books on prayer, which significantly affected his perspective and subsequent ministry.
Bill Johnson and his wife have three children: Eric, Brian and Leah.
Johnson speaking at a conference Bill Johnson and Beni (Brenda) began as singles pastors under his father at Bethel. In 1979, they became senior pastors of Mountain Chapel in Weaverville, California.
While pastoring in Weaverville, Johnson attended a 1987 conference led by John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Church Movement. According to Johnson "A number of healings and manifestations broke out and I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't object to it, I wasn't opposed to it; I just didn't know how to pastor it in a way that it would continue and increase".
In 1995, Johnson attended the Toronto Blessing revival at the Toronto Airport Vineyard church. Johnson relates: "In Toronto I said, 'Lord, if You touch me again I will never change the subject.' So I went up for prayer every time it was offered. I didn't have anything dramatic happen, but I came home and said, 'I am going to give the rest of my life to this.'"
In February 1996, after 17 years of leading the Weaverville church, the Johnsons were invited to become senior pastors of Bethel. Today Johnson describes Bethel as a church where "everything we do either fuels revival or is fueled by revival." Under his leadership, Bethel left the Assemblies of God in 2006 to become a nondenominational charismatic church.
According to a recent book written by Johnson, "Face to Face with God", Bethel is "a church where supernatural encounters with God happen regularly, miracles are common, and the congregation has an infectious passion for spiritual growth." The church has approximately 1,500 members, and a School of Supernatural Ministry.
Their Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry has 1,200 students enrolled with over 370 from other countries. Johnson leads a network of churches dedicated to global, multi-generational revival, Global Legacy. Johnson has written a number of books and travels extensively as a featured revival conference speaker. Johnson is also involved with the Northern California Revival Fellowship, a group of north Californian pastors committed to revival.
Deep nuggets of thoughts to provoke the spirit within us to desire to know and serve our Lord in ways we may not have thought about before or may have seen as impossible.
This book was OK but I think I might like it better in print. Look forward to reading in print format sometime in the near future. Bill Johnson is a new author for me and I like reading & trying new books and authors. The cover is intriguing as the book. I recommend the book & hope to read again only in print this time.
Every chapter is a quick read, its like a mini devotions, sometimes just a power sentence. This is good for devotions, though maybe for some people the day by day devotions like this was lack in scripture reading.
I used this book as a devotional. Very insightful and I need to make certain to be walking in the Spirit as I live my life in God's will. Not easy yet with the Holy Spirit helping me on my journey it will be easier. Recommend this book to all.
This is a collection of writings from Johnson's previously published book, Dreaming with God. There are 365 of the writings so this can be used as a yearly devotional. Some of the writings are more what one would consider a devotional – a near page of writing. Others are merely a sentence.
Some of the writings are informative or encouraging. Some of them I had a little trouble understanding. Here is an example: “A person's heart is more clearly seen by what they're willing to embrace without offense than by their expression of faith only in what they already understand.” (78) I am sure in the context of the original writing that statement was clear. To me, I wonder what I am supposed to be willing to embrace without offense.
Sometimes the writing does not seem to have a very positive message to me. For example, “The Church has often fallen to the notion that darkness is stronger than light,” (164) That's the entire reading for Day 145. I am not sure how I am supposed to be encouraged by that day's reading.
Sometimes it seems Johnson goes out on a limb. “The voice of the Lord is not an impression that we have to find language for. It is a direct word-for-word communication from God to us.” (111) That certainly has implications for those who claim the prophetic word and make a prediction that does not come to pass. It was interesting that Johnson, writing about the prophetic voice, emphasizes that it is “the responsibility of the hearer to discern whether or not a word is from God.” (115) What, then, is the responsibility of the person who claims to have a word from God?
There are some very good readings in this devotional and there are some that left me wanting more. Charismatic Christians who embrace the prophetic word and want to dream with God will find some inspiration here. These writings do not have the depth that some classic devotionals exhibit.

I am enjoying reading this book as a daily devotion to start my day. There are many nuggets of thoughts and scriptures thought the book that really make me think. It is written in a way that is easy to comprehend and always has something I need for the day. I love the different topics like growing closer to God, His purpose for you and encouragement that helps you to continue your journey with Him.
There were a couple of things that really stood out to me . "To obey only when we see that there will be a favorable outcome is not obedience." We should always strive to obey His commandments and be willing to follow Him. It may be hard at times, but I know that He is always there. "Our assignment is to live as though nothing were impossible." As we go through our daily lives we need to have an attitude that we can do things that seem impossible. We have God right there watching over us, encouraging us and holding us up as we go through trials. I liked how the author gave us scriptures to meditate on and his thoughts on many subjects. This would be a great tool for anyone who wants to dig deeper in his Word and share with others as a devotional that makes you think, explore and find revelation in His word.

“Daily Invitation to Friendship with God – Dreaming with God to Transform your World” is a hardback devotional book by author Bill Johnson. The cover is attractive and inviting. This book is comprised of 365 inspirational quotes, thoughts, snippets, and reflections from the author's book “Dreaming with God.” Since it has 365 it would make a nice one year devotional.
The author has a nice style of writing and this thought provoking devotional is easy to read. It is however, different than any devotional I have read before. I have not read his book "Dreaming with God" so that could be why some things did not quite click with me. The devotions range from one sentence to one page. The intention is for readers to draw closer to God and develop a closer relationship, a friendship. Some of the reading are inspiring while others give information. Some made me ponder the reading throughout the day and others made me feel completely lost.
I would recommend this to someone wanting a deeper relationship with God. The devotions are so varied that you could skip a day or two if necessary to find one that fits better. I rated it a 4 out of 5 stars. A copy of this book was provided for my honest opinion by The Book Club Network.
Friendship With God by Bill Johnson is an inspiring daily devotional that, as the title suggests, is a daily invitation to deepen one's relationship with God...to learn how to dream His dreams...to see the fruit of answered prayers--fulfilled dreams. Sectioned into ten parts with titles such as The Creative Edge, The Language of the Spirit, The Practical Side of Things, and Redesigning Our World, the author uses quotes, personal reflections and thoughts to convey an encouraging thought each day. A nugget of truth to meditate on throughout the day, to draw one closer to the One who desires to dream with his beloved children. Each of the 365 writings may be quick to read but will encourage the reader to look deeper at his relationship with the Creator and begin to use the ideas to transform our world. The book can easily be used by an individual or even for a family devotional time. It would be a thoughtful gift for believers at any point in their walk with God. I received a copy of this book through The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.
A Daily Invitation to Friendship by Bill Johnson is a wonderful book. I thoroughly enjoy his style of writing and the truths that he presents in a way that makes me think all day long. Originally I requested this book as a devotional just for myself; however, once receiving it, I realized this would be a great book to use as a dinner devotion with our family. We have a wide age range of children but the daily segments are small enough to keep everyone’s attention but in depth enough to give us something to chew on throughout the night and next day. I thoroughly am enjoying this book - it’s a wonderful compliment to our Bible reading, truly helping in our friendship with God.
I received this book for free from The Book Club Network and the author in exchange for my honest review. I placed my review on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Goodreads, and Deeper Shopping, if available.
This book, A Daily Invitation to Friendship with God, is an excellent way to join a daily devotion, without having to spend vasts amount of time.
The book consists of different parts such as: The Creative Edge, The language of the Spirit, The Practical Side of Things and Celebrating the Living Word.
Each section is introduced with Scripture to reflect upon during the devotional time. Then each entry consists of short entries to take with you throughout the day. There are some that are then ended with a thought.
I found this to be a nice way to share time with God for those moments when I only have a minute or two. I think this would also be a great introduction to devotions to those who have not done them before.
I was given this book by bookfun.org and Destiny Image in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoy Bill Johnson very much. If you have never read any of his books or listened to any of sermons I highly recommend any and all. He is on fire for the Lord and it is contagious. So I was very excited to get my hands on this little book. This book will give you a little bit of Bill Johnson wisdom every day. He challenges the reader to truly rely on God for all things, to co-labor with Him, to be creative and not afraid of a challenge. You will be reminded daily of the inviation God offers us to partner with Him, I pray you will take that challenge. If you enjoy reading short little devotions to get your day going I recommend this one:)

I found that in reading A Daily Invitation to Friendship with God: Dreaming with God to Transform your World, Bill tells us that he wants us to develop a friendship with GOD leading us into a more personal relationship as we read these daily invitations. This is a very nice, attractive hard covered book that is full of inspiring quotes, thoughts and reflections from Bill Johnson. . He wants to lead us into a more personal relationship as we read these 365 daily invitations. The pages are lovely and there are pages that only have quote or one paragraph leaving blank areas on most pages that I think will be perfect for journaling.
