The final battle is over and The Blood of the Lost was spilled. In the aftermath, the humans still have mysteries they call upon me for. Except I can no longer Track, and my new abilities terrify me.
A salvage is offered to me, and with it a chance to redeem myself. A missing girl, her brother desperate to find her. Simple and straightforward, this salvage should be a piece of cake - and a chance to learn some discipline with my powers.
Except the girl is somehow tied to the world of the Elementals, and with that comes a danger I could never have expected.
As I search for her, I realize it is not only her life that is on the line, but my soul and sanity as well, as the voices and unnatural needs in me grow more demanding.
If I am to save us both, I must face the darkness within; and this time, I must do it all by myself.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.
I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)
Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.
I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)
As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.
Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.
Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.
There’s no better news than that of a treasured series getting a second wind, and that’s precisely what the RYLEE ADAMSON EPILOGUES are. I expected there to be a lot of crossover between the original, and this spin-off because we are dealing with the same world, and many of its characters. The carbon copy was a little much though. The heroine gets a makeover, and new sidekicks are brought in, but otherwise, same ol’.
I wasn’t terribly disappointed by this fact considering that I liked Shannon Mayer’s first recipe however, some of the patterns she fell back into were gripes of mine, and seeing them again didn’t exactly leave me overjoyed. The prime one being that Rylee draws secondaries to her like dog fur. Liam, Eve, and Ophelia are still the protagonist’s go-to’s, but Levi, Belinda, and Nigel were all-in by the conclusion as well.
Adamson’s adjusting to her revamped existence, and this book was about her growing into her new skin. Part of that involved figuring out what aspects of her previous life she could keep, and what needed to change. Tracking children has always been her bread & butter, so it made sense that she slipped those shoes back on, although again, not much of a divergence happening here from the titles that started it all.
Towards the end of the RYLEE ADAMSON novels, Mayer’s ELEMENTALS began to creep in while as in this case the two are way more connected, so it’s probably advisable that you have at least some knowledge of these supes prior to enlisting. Ivan from her BLOOD BORNE series also made a cameo which was a definite perk because I love him! Thus, I was happy with this book overall, it just wasn’t quite as fresh as I was anticipating.
If something ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and that was essentially RYLEE in a nutshell.
Our hearts were left a bit broken at the end of BLOOD OF THE LOST. Shannon Mayer is giving us a chance to heal them with the first book in The Rylee Adamson Epilogues.
I was a bit hesitant to jump into RYLEE. I absolutely loved the Rylee Adamson series, but it ended and I was content. I was worried that RYLEE would end up like one of those movies where they decide to do a sequel and it totally failed to meet the expectations of everyone that couldn't wait to see it. My hesitations were quickly proved unfounded though as I dived into chapter one. Rylee is back and the story drew me in as all the stories before it. I enjoyed catching up with Rylee and Liam and I really enjoyed seeing the babies after the final battle. Fair warning: Rylee is no longer a tracker and she has a lot to work through from beginning to end of RYLEE. There is a lot of emotion involved and you will probably need some tissue.
I hate this, but I disliked the ending. Why? Because it leaves us with a huge cliffhanger and I hate those. Who doesn't!?! It looks like epilogue two will be from Liam's POV. I love Liam and all, but I will miss being in Rylee's head. I hope we get back to her quickly.
* This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Reading Rylee was bitter sweet without Alex but the newer members of the gang more than made up for it... Rylee is having an identity crisis after the events of Blood of the Lost. She doesn't know who she is anymore and Liam suggests a savage is just what she needs to find herself again. Rylee doesn't initially agree but she goes anyway... and boy and I glad she did!
Rylee was action packed, mysterious, and all around a great read. I'm so glad that her story isn't over and I can't wait to see what new adventures she gets into. There's a bit of trouble at the end and Liam is on the job. I NEED the next book ASAP!
Although the new Rylee may no longer be a Tracker, she hasn't changed much. She still has a soft spot for the strays and she collects them like bottle caps. Although a few pieces are missing from her old gang... the new one is coming together nicely. Although none could replace Alex, he still there in spirit and I have my fingers crossed that he somehow comes back from the dead! We also get a guess appearance from Ivan the wolf who first appeared in Replica and he's as delightful her as he is in the other series. Must read!
4.5 adventurous stars...I have loved this entire series, and now the epilogues are proving to be just as amazing...the story takes place six weeks after the final battle and Rylee is conflicted over her new identity and it's impact on her family...she embarks on a new salvage not only to find a missing child but also to come to terms with herself and gain control over her abilities...along the way she faces extraordinary challenges in the form of an incubus, elementals, ogres, and even humans that carry more evil than the supernatural...once again Shannon Mayer pulls together a story that is non-stop action with a solid storyline that is emotionally impactful....a thrilling ride from start to finish...looking forward to Liam's story:)
“Rylee” the first book in the “Rylee Adamson Epilogues” begins after the final battle with Orion and the demons as she struggles with her transition from tracker to huntress as a daylight vampire. Conflicted about her new existence the story heats up when she leaves Liam and her babies to search for a teenage girl who’s been missing for two months.
Action-packed, suspense builds when she traces eighteen-year-old Belinda Belly’s disappearance to an incubus whose dealing in the sale of street kids with an elemental tattoo on the back of their necks, and a connection to the world of the Elementals. With Harpies, Elementals, familiars and black skinned ogres, the journey takes on a dangerous and ominous aspect as she, new friends and old fight to rescue the youngsters held hostage in "the Pit".
With twists and turns in an imaginative fantasy that keeps you riveted the plot flows smoothly to an ending that has Rylee coming to terms with her “soul and sanity” and the promise of an exciting sequel. Although I would have enjoyed more buildup as events unfolded and less graphic language, the plot does keep you enthralled especially with compelling characters like Rylee Adamson a tough, cheeky daylight vampire with a fiery personality.
Although not my favorite of Shannon Mayer’s books I look forward to reading Liam’s story next.
This was pretty cool. Rylee learns acceptance of herself and her new powers. The babies are adorable. I can't wait to read the next one to see how they save the baby ogres.
I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Rylee’s series has been one of my favorites and when it ended with Blood of the Lost it was a bitter sweet. I felt like I was losing a group of friends I had grown to love. When Shannon announced that she was going back to write more Rylee, I was bursting with joy. After reading RYLEE: The Rylee Adamson Epilogues Book 1, I was not disappointed one bit!
I am going to start right here and say this is an epilogue to the Entire Rylee Adamson Series, so this book will blow that series for you. It also has a little bit of spoilers for Shannon’s other Elemental series. These two worlds are so closely intertwined, and weaved together so deliciously you really don’t want to miss any of it. I HIGHLY recommend going back and reading both.
In the first Epilogue Rylee is dealing with the after-effect of the battle with Orion; the losses and the fundamental change that has taken place within her. She is so lost and in a place she is unfamiliar with.
“I’m a daywalking vampire,” but to me, what I was really saying was “I’m officially a monster. A bad guy.”
It was surreal to have Rylee brought to a place she didn’t know herself; she wasn’t sure of her direction. She is fighting herself; the new darkness and hunger that comes with being a vampire, is afraid of herself and what she might do to those she loves.
She is offered the opportunity to once again go on a salvage, but with her tracker skill gone how does she do it? Who is she other than a monster?
I loved the first installment of the Epilogues, Shannon put Rylee and her companies through their paces, on a perilous journey to once again save a child. This is Shannon Mayer at her best! Thrilling, non-stop action with so many twists you keep turning the page wanting more. Not only can I not wait for the next Epilogue, now I cannot wait for the next Elemental book because WOW, I need to know what happens next!...Sara
I absolutely loved this epilogue. Get a glimpse to see how Rylee is handling things and allowing the reader to get closure with some of the characters that are lost. ❤️
Wow! This is an action packed wonderful continuation of The Rylee Adamson series!!!
Just when you think Rylee is done...think again. Rylee and Liam are trying to get their lives back in order and adjust to being parents of Marcella and Zane but also three Orge babies Kav, Bam and Rut. But now that Rylee is a day walking vampire she is terrified she cannot fight the darkness that she believes she cannot control.
A salvage comes to Rylee's attention and she takes it not realizing it is not just your average missing child. With the support of Liam, Rylee and Eve leave their family to only come across more beings/people who need her.
So now that Rylee is dealing with being a day walking vampire, she also is dealing with drinking blood, her darkness, strength and control. She realizes she needs the help and goes to find Lark. During this salvage will Rylee find her inner piece and be able to go home or will she feel like she has to live her life away from thoughs she loves. What other twist and turns will her family have. Will her family continue to grow, can she fight the darkness within. Will she be able to find this missing child alive. Only time will tell. This is an ARC I recieved for an honest review.
This was like meeting up with a friend you thought you'd never see again - and you realise it was like you had never been away and the conversation flowed, there was laughter, hugs and much rejoicing. This is the book equivalent. Rylee is back!! Yes she really is.
This is a story of discovery for Rylee, she is something different, something she doesn't recognise or feel at home with and despite the awesome story, this is very much about finding out who she is now. Along for the ride are many familiar faces, some we get to catch up with, others we just get a glimpse of. So no longer a tracker Rylee takes on a missing child case anyway and it takes her across the country to places new to her (and familiar to us if you've been reading the Elemental series) and allows her to give those daywalker skills an airing.
If you're reading this then you're probably as huge a fan as I am of Rylee Adamson, Lark and Shannon Mayer. This exceeds all expectations and I loved every second of it. Enjoy!
I absolutely freakin loved this book. Rylee's back and is just as potty mouthed as ever. New characters included. Miss some of our fallen friends but I'm sure they are adding to the gang rather than replacing our old favourites.
There's a bit that reminds me of the new Star Wars film, you that bit when Rey tried to use her fledgling Jedi mind powers.
I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review. What happens after the battle with Orion? What happens to Rylee after Alex? If you are anything like me then you have a lot of questions and want to know more about Rylee’s world after Blood of the Lost. I am super excited that Shannon Mayer decided that she wasn’t done with this world yet. I love this book and can’t wait for the next one!
I loved the Rylee Adamson series so I was very excited to see more of the gang. I adored these books but I will say that this series has become draining in some ways. Not because it's not great, it is, - but because there's a bloody lot happening and a lot to keep straight. And frankly, I don't think you can read these books without having read the Rylee Adamson series and the Elementals. There's too much crossover to avoid it and a lot you'll be confused about without it.
That said, this was great. A return to the Rylee of old, taking on a salvage and doing her thing. Obviously the fallout from the Blood of the Lost has left the gang changed and the epilogues follow each of the four characters as they adapt to the change that has been wrought and their own insecurities. But it also builds up to the next chapter in the world and the final book in the Elemental series, Destroyer.
In Rylee, Rylee is adjusting to her new Daywalker status and the loss of her tracker abilities. She worries about the safety of her family from herself, how she can be a tracker without any abilities and her new place in the world. It was fast paced, emotional and action packed. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing more of Rylee, only wish that the whole gang had featured rather than just Rylee and new characters.
3.5 stars. Minus the loss of one of my favorite characters in the original series, I was happy with the how the series wrapped up so I was kind of iffy on reading the epilogues. While I’m not disappointed I read Rylee, I don’t think it added a lot to the series as a whole for me. I did enjoy watching Rylee get to rediscover herself in her new form. That said, I didn’t like that so many of the original characters were not included in this book, especially Liam who spent the vast majority of the book on the sidelines yet again. I like the addition of Nigel, although he’ll never replace the beloved character we lost in Blood of the Lost. I’m looking forward to reading Liam, although I have a feeling it’ll be Rylee-less so we’ll see how it goes. I really would have rather had one epilogue that had all the characters that we grew to love, but maybe after I have read all 4 epilogues I’ll change my opinion on that.
It’s been six months since the world almost ended in battle and she was re-invented, five children and a husband that needs her isn’t all that has Rylee on edge and at war with herself. As a day-walker instead of a tracker Rylee just has different abilities. Alex is gone but Rylee’s still driven to save that desperately need her help.
It takes a bit of self-awareness and gentle goading from Liam for Rylee to gain the courage to trust herself and take on a case she was contacted about. Though the case reminds Rylee of Berget’s disappearance and her first suspect brings memories of working with Alex, Rylee struggles through to get control of her new abilities.
To my taste, this fast-paced outing took a bit of time to find it’s footing as Rylee’s without the familiar faces, skills and moves. Thankfully Rylee doesn’t stay at the pity party, she’s busy gathering new characters that like they’re on board to be the next new family. Rating: 4.25stars
This book is love. A week ago, I thought that there was no way that I could love Rylee any more than I do now, and I was even questioning how interesting it would be after how epic the battle was. I was wrong. You can always love Rylee more! I admit, I wasn't digging Rylee of all people questioning herself at the beginning, but it makes so much sense based on everything that happened, and it doesn't take long for her to get badass again. The book was basically about Rylee developing into Rylee 2.0 (or should I say accepting that she is Rylee 2.0?). And usually those books bother me, but NOT THIS ONE!
Also, I have to say I am SO HAPPY that Rylee's stories and Lark's stories crisscross so often! (If you are a Rylee fan and haven't read Shannon Mayer's Elemental series, DO IT NOW, you won't regret it!)
This answered my question about Rylee’s blood source. It also reminded me that Liam is a Guardian so maybe he qualifies as an immortal and won’t die as a human would.
I thought that this book would be about Rylee’s past like Alex’s had but it picks up where Blood of the Lost ended. Even though she is no longer a Tracker, Rylee still searches for missing children. She is contacted by a young man whose sister has disappeared.
Rylee is having a hard time adapting as a vampire due to her preconceived notions and is pretty much disgusted by her lust for blood. The trials and tribulations she suffers in this book help her to finally accept her new reality.
She is still collecting lost souls and obviously she and Liam need a larger home.
It's been a while since I finished the main series of the Rylee Adamson books. Which are all so amazing. I picked this book up in hopes that it would be just as awesome as the main series. I'm very happy to say I think the series got even better.
Rylee is having issues coming to terms with what happened to her as the end of the main series. This book is all about her trying to find herself and figure out what she has become. All while juggling 5 babies 2 of which are human and 3 ogre.
There is no shortage of drama, humor, and action in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the Ryle Adamson main series. This picks up where it left off.
Rylee is now a day walking vampire, with 5 children and a guardian husband Liam’s in what used to be Faris’ body. With all that going on she is still requested to find a missing teen. Overwhelmed by vampirism, she is having an identity crisis trying to handle her blood lust and the dark within. Loved it! Her adventures with Eve and surprisingly Elementals she met through Larkspur reveal something bad is happening with the humans and the Elementals; she must protect the world and her family at all cost.
We are back with Rylee and the gang, for a set of extended epilogues. Each one will focus in on one of the main characters from the main series to see how they are doing post battle.
Rylee has been having some issues finding who she is after the battle, but then she gets an opportunity to get back to her roots, finding a missing child. But there is so much more going on in the world and this missing child is only the tip of the iceberg.
It was nice having a wrap up to Rylee becoming a daywalking vampire. Out seemed like there would be more to the characters. This is indeed series that Ms. Mayer seems reluctant to give up and with good reason, because the books are fantastic with strong well written characters! Just cut down on saying daywalking vampire. We know Rylee is a vampire, saying daywalker would be more than sufficient as it was with Doran.
Loved Rylee’s epilogue. Loved how she needed to find herself after her life had been spent so much for the one moment of stopping Orion. Plus being changed, any mother would worry about the new found strength and not want to hurt her beloved family. Especially when family is everything. Love her new title- the Huntress. Loved how she came back to Liam. Now the triplets have to be saved, so on to Liam’s epilogue.
