For years now the Kingdom of Barassa and the Kingdom of Hiland, have been at odds. Two years ago they engaged in a war, which Barassa lost. While Barassa still stands and is still too big a nut to crack for the Hiland army, the northern kingdoms see the weakened Barassa as a target ripe for the picking. Sent to keep any eye on the invading armies, William has a front row seat to the drama playing out across the river as Barassa finally finds itself on the defensive, facing an army that may very well be able to finally tear down its massive walls. Faced with what may be the end of their state religion, the priests of Tantrus panic and perform a final act of desperation, unleashing a horror unknown to the world. But one William finds eerily familiar. Suddenly the concern of every god and every kingdom in the world is the destruction of this new monster, before it destroys them all. Immune to the weapons of this world, William must join with the Champions of friend and foe alike in a race to defeat the monster before it can destroy his adopted home.
I've had a very varied life. I grew up in New York, on Long Island. I went to school to become an Engineer, then joined the Air Force. After that I worked first in Robotics, then in Aerospace as a Flight Test Engineer. I moved into the medical fields, then into more Technical markets working for a number of high tech companies where I became a Contractor. I used to own and raise big cats. I love motorcycles and old cars. I'm a pilot and former martial arts instructor. I'm a fan of the Reno Air Races. Then there's the stuff I'm not supposed to talk about, but that's another story. I've seen a lot of interesting stuff go by, met a lot of interesting, wonderful, strange, or sometimes just psychotic people. I've had the opportunity to work on some truly game changing technologies. And while I've had some very bad things happen to me in my life, I've never let it stop me. Keep smiling. -John
In the end it was better than the sum of its parts I love this series. In the end I liked this book too, but there was a fair bit of frustration before I got to the end of this book. Jan Stryvant / John Van Stry is one of my favorite authors for many reasons. One of those many reasons is that his characters rarely make stupid choices. In this book they do made extreme uninformed choices based on no evidence that later (magically and oh so conveniently) turn out to have been just right to advance the plot. That is some lazy ass sloppy writing and I do expect better from this author. So glossing over that the main villain in this book is GOJIRA (Japanese for Godzilla) by name and that the author even manages to work in Ultraman, this is one of John Van Stry's worst books from an internal logic / Character behaving intelligently point of view. Never the less when I got done groaning and shaking the book shouting "WHY are you doing this?!?!" I did enjoy the book. I'm glad I read it, I'm glad it's in the series, and when I inevitably re-read this whole thing like I have with the valens legacy I will not skip this book. EDIT: I've reread this book and I like it better the second time. EDIT #2: Third reading and I didn't even notice what bugged me the first time.
This is getting back to what I want to read. If you liked book 2, you will definitely like this book. While the particulars where different, this story followed the same progression as that story. Will loses someone close to him an we see how much that affects him.
This is the sixth book in the portals of infinity series (for some reason this one doesn't have the number in the title)
This time Will is on another multi-champion sphere-hopping quest, to kill Godzilla. Plenty of excitement and some more snippets of foreign spheres, these ones largely Japanese in theme.
There are some editing problems, but not enough to detract from the enjoyment of the book. I do wish the author would stop calling everything "rather big" and "rather far" and "rather pretty." Just say things are good or tall or string or whatever descriptor, the rather doesn't add anything to the sentence and gets distracting when you have entire paragraphs where every sentence has at least one "rather" in it.
Nice continuation of the series, but I can see why some people didn't enjoy it, really I totally agree with them. Edit: The great betrayer reasons for turning agains thte main group plans was as stupid and backwards as you can expect from a kids tv programs villains, the fact that he from a low tech world, with no background knowladge of the sphere or connections managed to outsmart the group is disconcerning (I think the author could have put a little better though in that instance), not to mention how it was prett obvious what he was there for but it seems the rest of the group (except from MC) were blind to it, I have to doubt if his God wasn't influencing them at some point.
I have read the portals of infinity book series back too back only sleeping and eating for a few days i love the characters i enjoy the plot and find th inside jokes great. I wish that anyone who enjoys reading should jump on board quickly for i have enjoyed this and other works by this author immensely.thanks for doing justice to my imagination for its one of my few jobs that I can indulge in
When William's people are attacked by Godzilla, he an a group of other champions must go looking for the Oxygen Destroyer which the original movie used to kill Godzilla. Matthew Broderic and the Air Force jets will not do in William's world of Saladin. We end up learning a lot about the creator of the Godzilla movies and his travels. It's a very entertaining book. The author even includes a self-aware AI in a cameo appearance.
Have been thoroughly immersed in the series from the beginning. The depth and interplay with the main characters as they face epic trials and overcome them both physically, mentally and also emotionally makes for a well rounded tale of epic proportions.
I love his ability to blend different cultures and species into a cohesive and exciting story. William, his hero is a man of principles yet he doesn't hesitate to do what needs to be done to protect his people and god. Interesting the way they move through different degrees of civilization. Very enjoyable read, on to the next.
William continues his portal hopping adventures to defeat Godzilla, overcome treachery, and put a hurtin on those who oppose Fel and Rachael. Gotta love a story that is consistently entertaining, with twists and turns, treachery and firefights and of course the hero gets the girls, all of em! 7 books in and still going strong. Wow!
Started on page 6 and ended on page 246. So out of seven so called books, only one of them had a high enough page count for me to call it a book. Kindle unlimited only!
An excellent and quite enjoyable series! Very satisfactory! Will definitely be on my re-read shelf. Very enjoyable characters and plot development. Enjoyed the imaginative twists and tweaks.
Will and several God's champions are on a quest to find a weapon to deal with the legendary Japanese monster that is destroying their worlds. Pretty interesting story and Will and his companions are busy kicking butt and taking names across several worlds.
Another adventure with Will and the other champions. Will travels the infinity looking for a weapon to defeat Godzilla. One again the gods play politics and put their interests above protecting their people.
This book by far is the best I've read out the series, the intrigue alone was enough to keep me on the edge of my seat, add everything else and it was absolutely fantastic.
I loved it, the last ditch effort to save yourself turns into an apocalyptic event that makes a group of champions save the world. Once again a lot of straight forward story telling with all the need and none of the fluff!
The series just gets better and better! Fantastic characters, awesome stories, and overall just amazing books! If you've read other books in the series then you already know what you're in for. It really does seem like each book gets better then the last! Off to read the next one now. Five stars!
