Stripes the Tiger

Rate this book
Stripes is the biggest, strongest, fiercest hunter in the jungle . . . well, actually thats what Stripes would like to be. Stripes is a small tabby cat. Young and rambunctious, he challenges his owner at every turnseriously testing his owners patience. He tears up the couch, he chases the dog, and he wreaks havoc everywhere. Finally, his owner has had enough! He takes Stripes to the zoo to see a real tiger. But both Stripes and his owner are in for a surprise, proving that things are not always as they seem, and most importantly, you should always follow your internal roar (or purr) . . . however loud or soft it may be.

A small tabby cat named Stripes has dreams of grandeur, but can't get over his disappointment of being small. He constantly tries to prove his mettle by acting out in big ways. One day, Stripes meets a real tiger at the zoo who has dreams of pet-hood. They come up with a solution that suits them both.

This is a cute and funny picture book that's perfect for the preschool crowd. It has a low word count, making it a nice, quick read. And those illustrations are to die for! This is one seriously cute book with a delightful twist at the end.

I liked the concept and story line. The ending also went a different direction than I was expecting. Not a huge fan of the art style of the illustrations.

The grass is always greener ... Stripes, the tabby cat, wants to be ferocious and wild. The tiger at the zoo wants to be pampered and petted. So, they trade places and spend the rest of their lives in contentment.

Cute illustrations fill this book (I loved the image of the green couch with muddy pawprints on the cushions and an arm that's been badly shredded!) and tell the story of a small tabby cat who wants to be a tiger. When his owner takes him to the zoo to see a real tiger, the result makes for an enjoyable ending to this tale for young readers.

I swear I just wrote the review I'm about to write for a completely different book. Cute but silly picture book. Not very believable and with bratty behavior. But also not very good art. I liked the idea of this one but not execution, and certainly not the ending. Not a bad book, but not a good one either.

Used as part of animal storytime.

Stripes biggest wish is to be a Tiger! Eventually his owner takes Stripes to the zoo to meet a real life TIGER! The Tiger's biggest wish is to be a cat. What do you think happens?

Another book about identity. Stripes the cat wants to be a big fierce tiger. After spending a disproportionate amount of the book pretending, his person takes him to the zoo to see a real tiger. This does not have the effect the person expects.

A bit too short so the ending seemed sudden but overall a cute read.

It's hard when we see ourselves a certain way but everyone else is like, "You're not a tiger."

Boo to those people.

A striped cat decides he would rather be a tiger and starts to act like one to the dismay of his owner and the dog. Can he get what he dreams of? Fun.

Meh. I live with a cat tiger myself, and somehow found this less amusing than the author intended it to be. I'm not fond of the art either, which is angular and awkward.

Stripes is a cat who thinks he's a tiger. What about a tiger who thinks he's a cat?

Is it silly to call this book out as highly implausible? I mean, it is, but it's okay, it just kind of put me off, I mean, who would accidentally leave the zoo with a tiger in their cat cage? But anyway, it's a fun little Freaky Friday sort of thing with fun illustrations and The Boy (4) likes it.

Hello, friends! Today’s book is Stripes The Tiger by Jean Leroy and Bérengère Delaporte, an amusing story about the odd personalities of cats both big and small.

Stripes is the fiercest hunter in the jungle – at least, he’d like to be. The truth is, he’s an ordinary house cat, but he has dreams of being a fearsome tiger. Not content to let his dreams be dreams, he causes havoc around his owner’s home: clawing the couch, attacking the dog, and destroying the kitchen. His owner reaches the breaking point, and packs Stripes into a crate to take him to the zoo, convinced that seeing a real tiger will cure Stripes of his delusions of grandeur. But little does he know that Stripes is excited to meet his idol, and Mr. Tiger has dreams of his own…

This was a very cute, very funny story with a wonderful twist ending that made me grin. It captured the capricious nature of felines, be they housecats or big cats, and the resolution was unexpected yet satisfying. The illustrations are fun, and have some wonderful visual gags that match the humorous story. The length is perfect, and we definitely enjoyed this one! Baby Bookworm approved!

Stripes the yellow tabby cat just wants to be fierce like a tiger. He tries and tries but keeps getting reminded of how small he is. Meanwhile Stripes's owner finds himself getting more and more frustrated with Stripes's antics. Finally Stripes's owner gets fed up and takes him to the zoo to see what a real tiger looks like. I loved the expressions throughout the book on Stripes and his owner, ranging from being not amused, to angry, to sad, and roaring. Fun French import that has a funny ending.

One word review: French.

This story comes with adorable illustrations, complete with an over-ambitious cat whose dreams of becoming a tiger interfere with his human's daily life. The colors are bright, the cat is abundantly expressive, and the storyline is short, sweet, and charming. But definitely French. Something in the flow of the story, or the translation, or the fact it was first published in Canada.

What a cute story. Stripes the cat wants to be a tiger. He imagines and pretends by roaring and sharpening his claws on the couch. One day his owner gets sick of it all and takes Stripes to the zoo to see a real tiger. The tiger longs to be a house cat, so the two switch places. They both get what they want, and they're happy.

It was very cute, but I was disappointing in the end. We develop a relationship with the little cat. And a life of being locked up in a zoo at the end is not a happy place. A trans-formative story of having the little cat learn that he had a good life and going back home after learning about the outside world would have had more of an impact.

Stripes is a small tabby cat on the outside but a tiger inside, which is after all where it counts! I love the illustrations, particularly the page where Stripes the hunter has liberated a chicken leg from his owner's plate. And I love the logical, happy ending! This will be fun for preschool story time where the children will appreciate the quirky humor.

Madam read this to Mister, and then to the cats and she cracked up both times. She told me that I HAD to read this because it was SO funny!!! She was right. Sometimes our bad cat gets a look in his eye, and I wonder if he is dreaming something like the ending of this book?

This book feels incomplete. I don't know that I've ever met an unlikable picture book character but I don't care much for Stripes. He's mean to his owner and the dog for no reason and is perfectly happen to be abandoned at the zoo. Alright.
