Ohhh, the feelings I have about this volume. In short, they're not that good.

I don't have a problem with sex scenes, I don't have a problem with there being quite a few in one volume, but when almost the ENTIRE VOLUME is sex scenes, it tends to get to you. Yes, I understand that Aur tends to use psychologically manipulation to win over his victims, yes I understand that he has a very healthy sex drive and uses it to his advantage. HOWEVER, when entire chapters are dedicated to watching him break his victims psychologically with sex as the driving force, not only does it get repetitive, it becomes a little uncomfortable to watch. Do I think these scenes are "bad"? Not necessarily. In context, they make perfect sense, since the first volume established that Aur tends to use psychological manipulation/sex as weapons. I also don't believe they are poorly written. In fact, Aur's explanation as to how he manipulates his victims is clever, horrible, and in keeping with his character. The only reason I disliked them was because it got to be too much and I personally didn't enjoy reading them.

I will say, I loved the discussions Aur had with Lilu, and she was just as adorable in this volume as the previous one. I really wished there had been more interactions like those, they were what saved me after the onslaught of sex. Aur is still a spectacularly evil main character that I love to hate and I find to be well-written for what the series is going for. I also loved that fight scene between the adventurers and the Minotaur, it was well-done and worked so well for the setting of the story. Seeing Alan's team fall to Aur was pretty difficult, but once I understood why Aur did what he did, I have to admit it was devilishly clever. And that cliffhanger. Oh boy, that cliffhanger. The suspense is killing me now.

So, final thoughts. Was this a bad volume? No. Was it enough to make me drop the series? At times, yes, but ultimately no. Do I judge anyone for dropping this series after this volume? Absolutely not. This series is not going to be for everyone and this volume was not only proof, but almost a test to see who will continue. Do I still recommend this series? Honestly, yes. As overly sexual and graphic it can be, I don't think it's just mindless fan service and graphic content in an attempt to be mature. There is thought given to Aur's character and his actions remain true to said character. The setting is well done, I do enjoy the other characters, and the art work (not including the sex scenes) is quite good. I'm going to keep going with this series, but do proceed with caution.

If you're looking for a fantasy series with a smattering of raunchy, degrading sex, you've found the right series. For me, there has to be more then just sex scenes (and man are there many and are dragged out), and since I'm having a hard time caring about any of the characters I could care less where the story is heading. Sorry, but this is one of a very few I'm dropping mid-series. Dreadful!
