There's a chapter each devoted to the following topics:
* Giza, Egypt, and Knossos, Crete * Palenque, Mexico * Mount Li, Xi'an, China * Easter Island, Chile * Stonehenge, England * Medicine Wheels, United States and Canada * Nazca Lines, Peru * Great Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe * Nan Madol, Federated States of Micronesia
A glance at a few of the many unexplained mysterious sites on our planet. Some of these, such as the Giza pyramids and Stonehenge, are quite well known. Others, such as Nan Madol in Micronesia, might be a revelation.
There is a dazzling array of unexplained ruins on this, our home planet, and this illustrated book offers some insights and explanations, but no real answers. The mysteries, as is their wont, mostly remain mysterious.
Note: the volume I have credits the National Geographic book division, rather than an individual author.
Fascinating analysis of the possible meanings of various landmarks created by mankind whose origins are shrouded in mystery, such as the terrain lines in Peru or the pyramids of Egypt.
Mysteries of Mankind: Earth's Unexplained Landmarks by Donald J. Crump (National Geographic Society 1992) (930) explores the significance of some of earth's most magical and historical places. Hey, it's a National Geographic Society Book. There's no "Woo-Woo" to be found here. My rating: 7/10, finished 3/9/14.
