New York state is full of wonderful, tiny towns. GA was born and lived in one until her family moved to the Laurel Highlands area in the center of Pennsylvania and that’s where she’s lived most of her life. Except for an exceptional few decades on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

She took courses at Penn State University, but earned real credits just living life. Like we all do.

Writing is how she relives the best parts and dresses up—or down—the least bits.

As a child, the world around her was books. The teen years ... she’ll leave that to the Young Adult writers out there. Finally, all grown up, is there a better teacher for the use of the exact word than theater? The precise word.

That’s the first piece of advice GA would give any artist—writer, musician, painter—go act. Get on stage in front of an audience. You'll find out fast what works and what doesn't work for the people who laid down good money to be entertained by you. You’ll have an audience eventually, so it's a great place to start.

Nothing like the sound of crickets to get you to step up your game!

It gets cold in Pennsylvania. In her current, and upcoming, Murder Off-Screen series, GA will take you to where it’s always sunny and warm. In spite of the shady characters that threaten to ruin everyone’s day.

Her main character, Jaqie Shanahan, is a conglomeration of all the interesting—and not so—people she’s met. The dog, Doofus, is completely GA’s dog, Dexter. José Gecko. Well, he shared a condo in St. Augustine and a very special boat that sailed for a magical time with a magical captain on the Chesapeake Bay.

In that part at the beginning of every work of fiction that claims things are made-up and coincidental, they are. But GA has sailed the Chesapeake, crewed aboard a 140-footer in the Caribbean, met the elephants and their man, taken her motorcycle where—quite frankly—girls should not go.

And would do it all again.

Refreshingly original story

This author was new to me, so I did not go in with high expectations, but I was very pleasantly surprised by how good the story was. The plot was original and had plenty of action and twists and turns. I enjoyed it so much I immediately went and bought the second book and it was equally good.
I recommend this book/series to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries, action/adventure books, or just a good mystery.

Save a dog and solve a mystery, it's not going to be easy, but it's sure interesting.

I love the dog angle, but there is much more than that to this tale. There's a bunch of crooks after a politicians dog, and a writer out to save him. She's smarter than they are, but then a bigger, meaner crook comes along and tries to kill her and the dog.

Delightful!

An aspiring Hollywood actress goes home for a vacation, which isn't a restful one. She gets involved with a lab, a gecko, a politician and his conniving wife and a couple of dog nappers. There is a belly laugh on every page. Really a fun book.

Say It Isn't So, A Downhome Hollywood Gal

This Hollywood writer cares more about her family, the community she came from and a stupid dog she meets in the park. She gets to punch her Ex-husband in the nose twice. And in the end, she has almost everything she wants.

Well written

I enjoyed reading this story. The story flowed smoothly and made sense, yet the author didn't get weighed down supplying every possible detail. This story was fun without making the lead character seem silly or demeaning her.

Very funny book!! I love the characters. I was wrong about Jaqui....thought she’d be snobby...but she is so down to earth. I can’t wait to read the next book!!! Happy Reading :)

Another Good Read

This second VanDruff novel was a smile-worthy addition to my Sumer reading list.

GA VanDruff's cozy mysteries are filled with lovable and quirky characters....some of them with four feet.

It was a homecoming of sorts to revisit Jaqie, Doofus, and Jose and to learn about their egregious backgrounds and points of view.

If the author had more books available, I would have gladly continued reading.

Dogs and books! Can't get any better, unless there's humour. VanDruff is in the league of Janet Evonavich.

Every good mystery novella

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this little novella full of fun characters involved in a plot filled with enough twists and turns to keep you reading. Contains no sex and very little violence.
