Woman. Virgin. Sex slave. Three words that describe Gayriel on the day she is to be sold into service. But words could be deceiving, and so could she. Because there was nothing she wouldn't do to walk the world free, never to suffer a touch she did not desire. She expected it would be difficult, and she expected it would be dangerous—the very act of escape would forfeit her life if she was caught. What she didn't expect was him.
Dynarys Firestriker, general of the Amber Aerie guard. Dragon Lord. Half Breed. His very blood is a legacy he must fight to overcome, and slipping a female spy into his enemy's midst is the easiest way to prove himself. But the slave he chooses for the task is anything but easy. Worse, she tempts his beast, a complication he definitely doesn't need. Not with a traitor in his Aerie and one in his delegation. Can he rein in control long enough to salvage his mission? Does he even want to? They say a dragon's mate is the pinnacle of what it means to love...what of a dragon's slave?
If you’ve ever read any of my reviews, you know I’m definitely not into the “virgin + chiseled hunk = lust at first sight” romances. So I planned on only reading the first few chapters of this book to see what all the “fantasy dragon romance” hoopla was about. But I could not put this book down.
Yes, the book has the “virgin + chiseled hunk” scenario - so if you are into all that steamy romance stuff, you will not be disappointed. There’s enough heated passion, nakedness, and sex to make playboy magazine seem pious. But what pulled me into the story was the excellent world-building. That, and the descriptive writing kept me turning the pages.
The next section contains minor SPOILERS.
What I liked about the book:
The dragon lord “lifestyle” and near constant nakedness was hilarious.
Even though he was dominating and bossy, Dynarys was not a womanizing jerk typical of some romances.
Strale and Scet were by far my favorite characters. Strale for the way he dressed (or barely dressed) and his personality. Scet for his honor and the sacrifice he made.
What I didn’t like about the book:
Some of Gayriel’s choices/actions bothered me especially since some of them caused some serious harm. Even though she meant well, these choices made her much less likable to me. In her favor though, she was not the typical damsel in distress. She had spunk, courage, and determination.
There was also some profanity that I personally could have done without especially since the author created some world-building expressions like “what in the Six Realms”. I would have preferred something more along those lines.
There were a few things I questioned about the plot listed below under SPOILERS. Regardless of these issues, none of them affected my overall enjoyment of the story. This was my first dragon romance and it was a fun, interesting, and exciting read.
The best kind of romances (in my humble opinion) are the ones that that burn slowly in the beginning but quickly build to a great pay off and this book definitely delivered. The characters of Dynarys and Gayriel had me rooting for them from the first page until the last.
Gayriel is a strong heroine who yearns for her freedom at any price while Dynarys is a powerful alpha who manages to balance power with treating our heroine as an equal.
The world is well fleshed out with its culture and customs carefully laid out without requiring hefty info dumps along the way. The writing is smooth and painted a clear picture in my head, making me feel like I was truly there in all the action.
I loved the characters as well as the world and I can't wait to read the next installment.
It's my first time reading a fantasy book coupled with dragons and shifters, so the experience was an eye-opener. I've never even thought of reading a book about dragons. The way the author wrote the story really captured the scenes going on, and it thrusts the reader into a whole new world. How she revealed each character was amazing, too, and it'll keep you turning the pages. The plot, simply put, is incredible. It isn't the typical big bad macho man ❤ 'ordinary' girl. No, there are twists and turns that'll leave you wanting more. I'm glad the author decided to post this on Wattpad, or else I wouldn't have ever stumbled upon this beauty.
Read it. It's a magnificent book. I swear it on my glyphs...
I love stumbling across unexpectedly good paranormal series!
I was almost put off by the title and blurb, but there was just something there that felt very interesting.
Fine. The Hero is a big, sexy, royal dragon shifter and the Heroine is a virginal pleasure slave up for bid and dragons and virgins are my jam. Hey! Judge your mama!
Absolutely loved this book and would thoroughly recommend it and hope that others enjoy it as much as I did. This is a brilliantly written story filled with dragons, shifter wolves and the beautiful but wilful woman slave who just wants freedom. Can she earn her freedom but does she really want to escape her Dragon master?
The author threw in just enough interaction between the two H's to pull her story along. There is no real romance, so I gave two stars. This is my opinion, read at your own risk. Don't expect any real romance building, it wasn't there.
Another author from the good old Wattpad web/ app. Love to support these up and coming authors and getting a chance to read the final piece. Can’t wait to read more from this series.
Riveting story, spell binding and hooking. I like how captivating it is. Add to the strange setting and terminology, I couldn't ask for me. Thank you Amazon for the 0 cost too.
kept me entertained just enough to not be boring. The characters felt a bit flat..romance felt forced as well.. and I kept misreading gayriel as gayreal ... but thats mostly a me problem
I'm a newbie when it comes to dragon shifter romance. Paranormal isn't really my scene. BUT this book changed all that. Who knew the world of the dragon lords could be so fascinating? At least in Lacey St. Sin's capable hands. She does a masterful job with world-building, creating a fascinating plot full of intrigue and romance. I loved the characters, especially Gayriel, who was strong and determined and didn't sit around waiting to be rescued. She was the one who was going to do the rescuing (even though her plans sometimes go awry). Dynaris was equally compelling: totally alpha, and possessive (in a good way), but also fleshed out with plenty of internal conflict stemming from his background as a "half breed." The uneasy dynamics between various sects of society--the wolf shifters vs. dragons vs. humans, and the different warring dragon aeries--lent additional depth to a very enjoyable read. I sure hope Scet gets his own story soon!
Gayriel is such a strong character I was rooting for her all the way. Sold as a slave her only thoughts are of escape. Little does she know that her new master does not want her for the reasons she imagines. Thrown into a world populated by dragons, dragon lords and hybrids (part human, part dragon), she is on a steep learning curve. Her new master Dynarys turns out to be quite the complicated character. Using her as an agent to infiltrate his enemies, he has a hard time controlling his inner impulses (the dragon part of himself) of want for Gayriel. As well as hot and steamy erotica, this is a world of secrets, intrigue, complexity of lust and emotions, rules, loyalty and trust. The author has quite the imagination.
Fantasy and romance rolled into one. A shapeshifting general as the main male character. Intrigue and lies, spies and lovers. The book is fast-paced and there is always something going on. The characters are interesting, the world is interesting and well described, and the plot is very engaging. The main female character reminded me a bit of Jude Duarte. I highly recommend it!
