Elizabeth Harding, the perfect, polished daughter of politicians, plays by all the rules. Or so it seems. Tired of a lifetime of denying her passionate nature, she’s created an alter ego. As Tess, Elizabeth is able to safely and secretly indulge all of her wild fantasies—even if that fantasy is financing a private club of pleasure.
Driven and ambitious, Luca Santos has clawed his way from rags to riches. His boss’s daughter has tempted him for what seems like forever, but he’s known that the pampered princess probably wouldn’t be down with his dirty ways. Elizabeth is sweet, innocent, demure…so what’s she doing sneaking around a place that revels in sexual abandon?
One night. So many ways to ruin a person.
Note: This title contains explicit language and sexual role-playing. Elizabeth and Luca's story will conclude in Stay My Fantasy, coming in June.
Some authors make me forget I don't like to read continuing serial type novellas before all parts are out. Alisha Rai is one of them.
It's been a while since I read Alisha Rai's SERVING PLEASURE and I was craving her work something fierce. When she sprung this surprise novella on us, I couldn't be happier and rushed through the book I was reading when it released so I could get my Alisha Rai fix.
And what a fix it was! A delightfully dirty sexy novella that just would've checked all my boxes if it had been a fully wrapped up story. As it wasn't...it was not perfect but it came pretty darn close.
I loved Elizabeth and Luca both separate and together and Alisha didn't pull any punches in the dirty sexy department. This novella was so hot and sexy I was blushing (and I don't blush easily!) and getting hot and bothered while reading it on the commute to and from work. And if you take in consideration the only kinky stuff happening was the sexual blackmail roleplay, that says a lot about how erotic and good the sexy was.
Normally, when there are multiple books/novellas on one and the same couple I wait for all the books to be out and then read them back-to-back. Unfortunately I was so desperate for my Alisha Rai fix I couldn’t bring up the patience to wait for this and I read BE MY FANTASY almost right when it released. Some authors do this to me and Alisha is one of them. I now of course regret this because STAY WITH ME (the continuation novella) is not out until June. But this wonderfully filthy novella definitely makes it worth the torturous wait.
Favorite Quotes: “Are you really sorry for disobeying me?” he asked. “Yes.” His legs spread wider. “Then get on your hands and knees, crawl over here, and show me how sorry you are with your mouth.”
He pulsed his hips, rubbing the tip of his c*ck over that spot again and again, until she bit her hand. Instantly, he used his grip to haul her head up. “You don’t mark your own skin. That’s my job. You want something to bite, you bite me.” “Luca, please. I’m dying.” His chuckle was low and dirty.
Note: Be My Fantasy and Stay My Fantasy are halves of a full novel - pick them up as a set or you risk being less than satisfied. This review treats both books as one whole.
This book reminded me why I love Alisha Rai - fully formed characters with realistic emotional journeys, interestingly complicated scenarios, and smoking hot sex.
The good:
- Elizabeth knows what she wants and goes after it. Having a public image to maintain cramps her style, but with the help of a friend she still manages to part-own a pleasure club, complete with a fantasy room built to her specifications.
- Luca is a gentleman. He sticks up for Elizabeth when someone at a party puts her down, and he knows when to back down in an argument. He also knows when to apologize and how to compromise.
- The dynamic between the two is complex but doesn't become muddled. There are reasons they doubt each other at times, but they communicate and work things out.
- If you're into light kink you'll enjoy the scenes of voyeurism (staged performances), Domination and submission, spanking, and roleplay.
- The book is paced well, fits its pages, and reads quick.
The not-so-good:
- This should really be one novel, not two. I get why - this is an earlier, indie release from Rai - but think about it as one book.
Rai's more recent releases have been too angsty for my taste - see the Forbidden Hearts series - so I enjoyed finding this book in her backlist.
Elizabeth's father is an ex-Senator, her family has has a lot of money, and can trace their linage to the Mayflower. Her parents have certain opinions of what is "proper" for a woman to do. She was raised to be a perfect hostess and to make her husband life easier. Nice, right? Well, she doesn't want to do that and has found ways to get what she needs. She is the secret part owner of an exclusive club that caters to sexual desires. She had a room built to her specifications. Luca works for the family business. He is the right hand man in the company. He also briefly dated Elizabeth a few years ago before she broke things off because she felt he was only interested in her for her name and connections. He secretly lusts after her for years. They reconnect after Luca sees her leaving her club. I could understand her reluctance to trust based on her history and shaming she got from a past partner. Story is incomplete and continues in the next book.
I loved the main character, I loved the way the sex scenes were written and I loved the way the story discusses how every woman has the right to live their sex lifes as they want to and not be ashamed of it.
a short and steamy little story. I think I knew peripherally starting this story that it was to be continued in the next book, but somehow it registered so little that by the end of the book I was surprised (and not awfully pleased) to find out that Elizabeth and Luca's story was to be continued. As far as heroes and heroines go, these characters WERE rich and powerful, with security details and country club memberships and paparazzi and all, but it felt more realistic and organic than many millionaire/ billionaire/ trillionaire heroes in romance novels. Elizabeth, with her high-profile political family and uptight upbringing (did anyone else keep having disturbing images of the Bush twins while reading this?), was nevertheless a deeply conflicted, sympathetic character. I appreciated that she had taken the reigns of her own life as much as possible, without completely alienating everyone in her life. Luca is also a strong, engaging hero, one who can admit to mistakes and poor judgement in his past, and who is not just willing, but DELIGHTED to accept Elizabeth for what she is (well, what he knows of her so far, anyway). Having read Akira Mori's story previously, it was also interesting seeing her interact with others and how she's affected their lives. This was a fast read for me, and despite their kink for role playing out imbalance/ abuse of power, which isn't my favorite, the story was hot and sweet. And yes, whenever Rai finally releases the follow up to this story, I'll buy and read it--grumbling the whole time about authors who can't just write a single full-length book instead of multiple installations.
Alisha Rai is a master of smut. Seriously. She writes the consistently best smut I have ever read. Interesting characters, interesting plots, liberally sprinkled with POC and mixed race relationships, no overused tropes to be found, and in fact, she has a knack for turning typical romance standards upside down.
My one complaint about this book is that it's too short. It was just getting really good and now we have to wait at least a month to see what happens next. I'm not patient enough for serial novellas!
I love Alisha Rai and was ecstatic when she announced a surprise release. Of course I immediately one-click purchased it. I read it in a day. I loved the heroine, Elizabeth/Tess. I don't remember her from the other series with Akira and Jacob. I guess that gives me a great excuse for a re-read. :-)
I was disappointed when I saw that the second book won't be out until June. But that's okay. It gives me something to look forward to.
Alisha Rai is dependable, in a good way. Her stories involve (mostly) normal people trying to find happiness and sexual fulfillment in a crazy world.
This short story is classic, where two strong-willed people are attracted to each other, but misunderstand each other, which prevents trust. Sometimes you just need a good spanking. Since this is a new series, I'll probably read them as they are published, but it would also be appropriate to wait for the boxed-set.
Very much in the running for my favorite story by Rai. I didn't think anything would come close to A Gentleman in the Street, but this one does. I can't wait for the next episode and I need more stars to give this one.
How on earth did so much backstory and character development fit into a 105-page novella? I've read several of Rai's full-length novels and this seems just as strong as any of those (maybe stronger than a few) in that department.
The smut is properly smutty, but the sex scenes pull double duty as chances to peek into the character's heads and get to know them better (as I firmly believe all romance works should do, because sex without characterization is just wasted page space, from a story perspective.)
Because I'm reading this long after its publication, I didn't have to wait at the cliffhanger to go on with the story, but if I had been stuck there waiting for the second novella, I would have been making grabby hands for it the second it dropped. Luca is a charmer, and Elizabeth is wonderfully complex, given how little time we have to get to know her.
A short but sexy novella from Alisha Rai. Be warned, this book does have a cliff hanger ending so be sure to have book two in The Fantasy Series close by because you'll want to pick it up immediately. Elizabeth has always led the life of the perfect politician's daughter but she's been hiding a sexy side that she's finally letting out. Luca may have come from the "wrong side of the tracks" but he's worked his way up in the political world. He's always admired the untouchable Elizabeth but he's been hiding some pretty dark, delicious kinks and he doesn't think that Elizabeth could handle that side of his personality. One night at an exclusive sex club changes all of that. This was an extremely sexy read and I can't wait to continue the series!
I learned of Alisha Rai from an interview on the Smart Bitches, Trashy Books podcast.
I wanted her books, all of them, desperately. Alisha Rai's just so smart and funny and clever and if I ever meet her, I fully expect to lose all my combined marbles.
And let me tell you, she does not disappoint. This is seriously steamy writing and, with leading characters who are not merely unapologetic about their sexual preferences but also own and empower those preferences, it deserves all the praise.
I adore Rai and I want everyone to read her just as desperately as I want my own copy of Hate To Want You.
this was a steamy read but lacked a strong plot. I think this is because it is meant to be a novella so Ria didn't focus on the backstories as much. But regardless this kind of tipped the whole story for me because the chemistry didn't seem great.
This book is all about a girl who has always had a thing for her dad's apprentice. She never told him because she always thought that he hated her. He always had a thing for her but he always promised himself he wouldn't do anything about it because she was rich and spoiled. Well like they say you can't choose who you love and these two definitely do love each other! I would absolutely recommend this book to any erotica fans and alisha rai fans!
Rai weaves an interesting story about the difficulties of self-denial and the rewards in letting go. Protagonists Elizabeth and Luca display internal dialogues that ring true as each tries to navigate a social society that limits the both of them. Both have depth without a forced anxiety or helplessness. High praise for the sex scenes, where Rai shows off her mastery of language and pacing. A quick fun read.
Oh, my. Is it hot in here or IS IT THIS BOOK? *fans self* No lie, this book is smokin'. IT IS GLORIOUS. My only complaint is that now I have to wait for the next installment. Elizabeth and Luca deserve to get it on a few more times (and find some serious Happily Ever After, man). Also, I'm impatient and want to see how things play out.
If I put aside the steamy scenes (which were outstanding), I think the scene where Elizabeth confronts Luca to clear up the misconceptions that sprung up between them was my favorite. That she would so matter-of-factly tell him what had happened without any expectation he'd accept her explanation made me sit up and do a fist pump. She saw something that needed to be done and did it. I admire that in a heroine. There was no artifice. No wheedling to try to get something out of him. Just "this is what happened. Deal with it or don't."
Taking a cue from Elizabeth, I'm not going to pull my punches. I want book 2. This book only whetted my appetite for more of their story and I can't wait to see how their romance plays out.
