This overview of Greek antiquity was competently told, but the illustrations were bizarrely ill-suited for such an illustration-heavy book. Seems like there is enough Greek art from the period that they wouldn't have to lean so heavy on 19th century reimaginings. Good maps though.

A very pretty book - colorful illustrations of reconstructed Minoan palaces at Knossos and Mycenaean palaces - up to classical 5th century Athenian life. A quick overview of the major topics impacting ancient Greek development - a good overview for the general reader.

The Search for Ancient Greece (New Horizons Series) tells in brief about the great archeological finds and their subsequent vandalism to the great museums of Europe. Fine period drawings by the earliest treasure-hunters.
