I have a pet peeve when I'm reading a book... TYPOS. This one has four, and although that doesn't sound like much, this booklet is just 22 pages long (short). It shows little respect towards the reader. I submitted the typos for correction.
This booklet also feels more like a long blog post instead of a book. The author talks A LOT about "I do this" and "I do that" instead of using a more active voice. I get that she wanted to provide examples, but I feel it was overused.
Critique aside, the booklet does have some good suggestions. The morning routine is a good idea. But please note that it's more targeted at people who use a more traditional way of homeschooling. She does mention unschooling, but it's in passing. Her approach is definitely not unschooler-friendly.
Love this short but inspiring read. It’s didn’t make me overwhelmed with ideas, but instead gave me some awesome concrete trails to pursue in my homeschool planning.
This book is incredibly short (it was likely a blog post), but as a new homeschool parent, it really helped me think about my vision & plan for this upcoming year, and I'm absolutely going to benefit from the ideas shared. Also, there are many links throughout the book to blog posts for further reading.
For someone who did not growing up being homeschooled and who is choosing to homeschool my kids, I have a lot to learn! This little book was packed with helpful tips and I'm feeling encouraged and motivated that I can actually do this.
My favorite homeschool book (so far) is Homeschool Bravely, but this was a great little read!
This book is refreshingly brief and pretty helpful in planning for the upcoming year. I'm looking forward to implementing some of the techniques suggested here, particularly those aimed toward focusing the purpose of our homeschool.
This book dives right in with great suggestions. Very level-headed with practical ways to apply to your own homeschooling rhythm. Some of these ideas are completely new to me and appealing! I’ll be implementing some of these tips. Thank you!
This is a very short book (in a good, concise way) with lots of great nuggets. I think it would be just useful to a new home schooling mom (I found good reminders, but not a lot that I hadn't heard before).
I gave this book four stars because I thought it was interesting and helpful. I'm always looking for ways to improve our homeschool, some of these will be implemented in our new school year!
I always find inspiration, solidarity, and good solid sense in Pam Barnhill's words. In The Confident Homeschooler, Pam provides suggestions for how to plan for several common challenges in homeschooling.
I like the way Pam Barnhill approaches homeschooling. None of this was earth shattering (I've given much of this same advice myself!), but it was a good reminder as I start to prep for the fall. Quick read, and one I'll recommend to newer homeschool moms, in particular.
Is this book going to revolutionize your homeschool? Probably not. Does it give a few actionable ideas that could help? Definitely! I've come up with a couple of things gleaned from reading this, that I want to implement this coming year. It's a fast read and worth it, in my opinion.
I was hoping for more. I was looking for tips I haven’t heard a thousand times. The same tips that just don’t work if you have multiple kids with ld’s. I do think some of the tips are applicable for neuro-typical kids.
Lots of great ideas on how to make your homeschool fit your family. Links included to her blog and podcasts to learn more. Only downside was how short it was and I was left wanting more.
A quick, easy shot of encouragement and inspiration for any homeschooling mom. This little booklet doesn't get bogged down with anecdotes. So, KISS (keep it simple, sweetie) and confidently teach your children.
Like her podcast episodes, blog posts & purchasable stuff all in one free little spot. Not bad. I’ll come back to it each year as a refresher, I’m sure.
A quick read with tips and suggestions on getting organized and making the most of your homeschool. I enjoyed it and appreciate the many links included.
A super short book (like a blog post). It is straight-to-the-point, practical advice relating to creating more joy in the homeschool for both kids and Mum! Enjoyed and know it will be a re-read!
