Caroline Johnson wakes up in a motel room next to a dead guy, with no memory of who she is or how she got there! She finds a note with "Timberline" written on it, so she heads there in the hope it might provide her with some answers. Cole Pierson is a DEA agent who follows the clues from the scene of the crime to Timberline as well. When he meets Caroline, he isn't sure about the story she's giving him. As for Caroline, she doesn't know if he's an undercover cop, or a drug dealer, like the dead guy! Could any of this have links to a 25-year-old kidnapping of three children?
It took me a while to realise this was the concluding chapter in a mini-series, and I had read the previous one, Army Ranger Redemption. I enjoyed that one, but was annoyed at all the plot strands left dangling. Thankfully, because this is the last book in the series, all of those strands get resolved! This story had a good mystery at its core, and the pace was fast. But I couldn't entirely get on side with Caroline, because it seemed all of her actions were motivated by self-interest, rather than what was best. No, it's not great to be arrested, but she really should have gone straight to the police! I couldn't help but think a lot of this mess could have been avoided if she'd done that! Also, the climax lacks punch. It's very rushed.
