This is just thee "most best debut book" ( This is how Nani speaks in the entire book , "Most worst" , "Most Best" , and she calls Risha "Single Bachelor" LOL )

I really really love Romantic comedy especially those with the touch of Hinglish , it makes it sassy and more humorous in my opinion . And I can't believe this is author's debut book , she is definitely fabulous .

Risha is a journalist and also a wedding photographer ' candid ' of elite society in India . She mets Arjun on her way back to India from LA . They become instant friends and find it comfortable unbelievably . Soon Arjun finds out that Risha is the wedding photographer his sister chose for her wedding .

Risha and Arjun meet in his sister's wedding again , but things are different , Arjun assumes that Risha had intentionally hidden her profession as journalist and he blames himself for believing her so blindly in the first meet itself . Then enters Nani ... God I love her , Of course every character in this book is lovable , Vikram, Nidhi , Rohan , Nitisha , Arjun's mom , dad and the honourable Priye Ma ... I really enjoyed reading it . We can count good Indian Rom-Com authors on fingers , Anuja chauhan , Varsha dixit , Sonali dev and now I can add Sakshama in there .

What do I say ? ITS JUST WONDERFUL AND I LOVED , LOVED IT . besotted maybe is the correct word. I would like to read Vikram-Nidhi and Rohan-Nitisha's story , Author has given hints about their love stories but I don't mind reading an entire series of Khanna-Sighal-Kapoor bridegrooms , as long as Nani is a part of them ;) .

Have you ever watched a Romantic Comedy Hollywood & Bollywood movies that makes you relaxed, makes you forget all your worries, laugh out loud and keeps you captivated till the end? Sakshama brings you exactly the same through her fiction “The Wedding Photographer”. With plentiful of wit spread throughout the book, this book will refuse to leave your hand until you hit the last page. And, when you read, you cannot avoid your brain painting pictures of Risha, Arjun, Nitisha, Rohan, Rishabh and Nani in a Bollywood movie. How beautifully the words we read in this fiction gets converted to scenes? That’s the power of Sakshama’s writing.

The language used in this book is simple yet rich. Wherever required, the Indian touch is given by using ‘Punjabi’ in the dialogues (which in my opinion is the best instead of English which misses out the wit during translation). Nani’s language ‘pat name’, ‘most worst organization’, ‘just most worst organization’ almost made me ROFL. With a load of entertainment of a Punjabi wedding, and with some twists, the books stands tall among all other Romantic Comedy fictions!

It also portrays how ego plays a very important role in many relations. If only that ego curtain goes off, the life will be pleasant and lovely! Risha’s and Arjun’s characters stress this fact in every single instance in this book! It will also make all of us, stop a moment and introspect ourselves. We have our work, and we have our own passion. Many times, we forget the passion with the mounting work pressure. Sakshama neatly depicts this through Risha (and indirectly says such people are like Arjun). It also tells you a lot about life! Life is what we make out of it! Whoever feels stressed out at the end of the day, I strongly suggest, buy a copy of this book and read some 10-20 pages at the end of your day. I bet all your anxiety & stress will be washed away!

Sakshama, you only need a producer to convert this into a sooper-dooper Bollywood movie! Hope that day comes soon! Candy & Nani will stay in our minds until we read the next romantic comedy. Looking forward to your next one!

An Indian soap opera in book form, right down to the kaleere falling down on the heroine's head. With all the cheesy clichés of romance books. And a drunk grandma (thanks Vicky Donor for this trope).

A delightful debut novel, it is a romantic comedy as well as a sharp satire on present day Delhi and India. Despite not being a fan of this genre, I zipped through the book in a day and a half and found Bollywood references, Punjabi quirks, snarky asides spicing up the sugar of the romance.
This book will probably get a lot of praise for its breezy style, smooth pace and the eminently likeable heroine but in addition I found there was a fair bit of research on various aspects - wedding photography, society reporting, long haul flights - that made it a really interesting read.

Only one crib... why snarky comments against Hotmail users? We are just super-early adopters who started using email so long before Gmail that it was too cumbersome to shift!

“The Wedding Photographer” - As the name states it all, this book is about the life of a wedding photographer a.k.a Risha Kohli while she was capturing the best moments in a grand wedding.

Frankly speaking, I was browsing through a list of books by Indian authors in a bookstore when this particular book caught my eye. I just didn’t note the name of the author but read the plot. The plot looked something new and I purchased it immediately.

Firstly, congratulations to Sakshama for choosing such a refreshing plot. Cool! The way the lead characters were introduced, though simple it was perfect. You make the readers just travel the world of Risha with such an ease that I typically lost track of time in a day. I’m particularly impressed with the way the emotions between Arjun & Risha were detailed.

The one thing which I felt a bit draggy is the office conversations but it was essential for the story. It could have been crispier. Other than this I didn’t feel any lag in the story.

I really liked the way the story has ended. Though it’s a typical “all-is-well” ending this had a nice touch to it. Especially the verse “Who’s this girl?” and “The wedding photographer.” There were some light-hearted moments in between which makes you to just walk through the story with such ease.

If you want to know how a big entrepreneur and a small-time photographer met and clicked, yay! you’ve got the right book in your hands!

Overall, a refreshing love story that you can cherish while reading.

Way to go Sakshama!!

The first thought which came to my mind after reading this book was it’s similarity to the KJO movies. This book is all about the big, rich and very loud Punjabi family with a beautiful love story.

Rashi and Arjun belong to totally different backgrounds but somehow from the first moment they met, they seem to share a Chemistry. The sparks fly whenever they are in same place. This book is all about happy go lucky kind and though this was the author’s first book, its actually a sequel to author’s second book “Man of her Match”. It starts where the second book ends.

The book is thoroughly entertaining, with some really spunky characters and a fresh and breezy romance. There were several moments which, literally, made me laugh out loud and most of those moments were of Naani. I loved Arjun’s maternal grandmother a.k.a Naani the most. She is witty and don’t mind speaking her mind aloud. She even changed Risha’s name to Candy (because Risha is the candid photographer in the wedding).

Like a KJO movie, this book has everything- comedy, romance, drama and friendship.

If you are feeling a bit sad or are in a grumpy mood, then just pick up this book. I am sure, this book will definitely leave a smile on your face.

The Wedding Photographer, is light weight rom-com novel by the debut author. The plot is when a part-time wedding photographer and a full-time journalist Risha gets upgraded to business class in her travel from America to Delhi she meets a real estate tycoon Arjun, who hates journalists. And, coincidentally Risha's next big assignment was Arjun's sister's wedding next week. Risha got this big gig through her friend and colleague Nidhi. They both get to know each other during their time in the flight. And, what happens during the wedding and after that. The fun, fight, misunderstanding, romance fills the novel.

The book has three parts, the first happens in the flight, the seventeen hour journey. The second is the Big Fat Punjabi wedding. The third part is after the wedding. The first two parts are mostly fun. Risha's experience in the flight with the kid Bunty in the next seat and her fight with the air hostess Bitchika, who hates Risha for no reason. I wished Risha and Arjun had more interaction during the flight time.

The second part was the big fat punjabi wedding. It gets bigger and bigger each day and we get to know about the ceremonies through the lens of Risha. And, it was mostly fun as well with the different characters from the wedding. Especially Arjun's Nani, who was like the boss of the family. Then Risha's friend Rishab, who was a gay. I haven't seen a gay character in the few books I have read so far that too from our Indian authors. It was good to see his character wasn't treated differently. And, also one Priye Ma, goddess lady and her actions were hilarious. Everyone seems to be boozing most of the time during the wedding.

Few misunderstanding happens between Risha and Arjun right from the start. When they overcome one by one and finally gets together the final and biggest misunderstanding happens during the third part of the book. And, Arjun thinks he was cheated again. Even this wasn't like a biggest unbelievable forced conflict to move the story forward.

The book looks authentic, you can relate every scene and they are believable. It has many interesting characters, especially Risha's friend Nidhi's husband Vikram, who's a cricket player. I think his character is based on Virat Kohli. Vikram is team's vice captain, got man of the series in India's tour to Australia and he travels to Srilanka for his next assignment. It is definitely Virat ;). And, Risha shot to fame after shooting Nidhi and Vikram's wedding. Who doesn't after shooting Virat's wedding?

Those who love rom-com and bollywood movies must try this. It's fun and makes you laugh or at least smile every two pages and very lighthearted. It won't take much time than a movie's time to finish this. The writing was very simple just like the plot. The author didn't make anything complex, not much of big twists. A simple, neat and straight forward rom-com by Sakshama Puri Dhariwal on her debut.

After ages, The Wedding Photographer is one book which I finished reading in (almost) one sitting. Found it to be thoroughly entertaining, with some really spunky characters and a fresh and breezy romance. There were several moments which, literally, made me laugh out loud and some which left me a tad wet-eyed. But, in the end, more than anything it left me feeling good and optimistic about life, the choices we make and love.

What really stood out for me was the author’s smooth style of writing, given the attention to detail as well as depth of characters, not to mention the precise staging of every scene. At no point did I find my attention lag or skim through the details. In fact, more than once, I went back to check a specific detail which had caught my eye and which synced back to some occurrence in the present. The other stand out point was the sheer eloquence with which it has been written, without sounding pretentious at any point. It allowed me to play out the happenings in my mind, as if I was right there in the story, which has not happened for me with a book, in a long time.

Given this book is the first novel of Sakshama Puri Dhariwal , I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next time around. Highly recommend this one!

P.S. While reading this book, do read it all the way till the acknowledgements. Don’t recall the last time an acknowledgement was this much fun while being heartfelt and an author who puts in that kind of thought and effort is surely here to stay!

The blurb says that 'The Wedding Photographer' will be a fun, entertaining, masala-filled read and it totally lives up to that promise. The characters are well-etched out, especially Nani, with her ability to down numerous Patiala pegs while staying sober, and also figure out who "matched". The plot draws you in, from the initial scenes on the 17-hour long flight, all the way through to the hours post 'the scandal', all neatly tied together by the big, fat Punjabi wedding at the center of it all. I especially liked how the range of pop-culture references ranging from Veer Zara (and other things Bollywood), to arcade games (Tetris contest FTW) and more. And if that weren't enough, you have the media house jokes ("what happens in editorial, stays in editorial"), a familiar-sounding cult, and some sub-plots that could be books themselves (I'm looking at you, Rishabh). If you're looking for a light romantic read this summer, look no further. I suggest buying the Kindle edition (shameless plug) instead of waiting for the physical book, as this is a perfect vacation read.

Disclaimer: I know the author (and might know some of her characters), but my review is entirely my own.

This was such a surprise read - I went into the book expecting a cute romance but what I got was a a fun filled; dramatic and passionate romance that wormed it's way into my heart!

Plus; I was so stocked to red about the place I actually live in; in a romance - is this how American Readers feel when they read about their hometown? Because if yes, then IT IS FREAKING AWESOME!

Loved the writing style; the character developments and the wonderful chemistry between Arjun and Risha - though I do wish Arjun had grovelled a whole lot harder to win the forgiveness of Risha - nevertheless I definitely enjoyed this little beauty! <3

If you're Punjabi (or not), like whiskey, chicken (or paneer), bollywood, romance, are in love (or want to be), have grandparents who are either crazy or embarrassing, have one aunty in your life who is always trying to (not so slyly) hook you up with someone's friend's cousin's uncle's daughter/son, have a friend called Karan, Kunal, Rahul, Amit, Nidhi, Neha or Pooja, if you spent a bucket load on that professional degree but are pursuing your passion instead here's the perfect treat for you.
Pick up a copy of this wonderful book by Sakshama Puri that makes you feel all happy and warm and fuzzy.

This book in un-put-down-able!

From the well defined characters to the modern writing style, the book has you gripped till the end. The use of recent Bollywood dialogues, the recognisable family characters that we all learn to live with and the SMS lingo (not the cul8 types) made me think "i have been there" at so many points in the book and yet the book took me on a journey that I remember even after several weeks of reading the book.
I am sure that this will turn into a movie very soon - so the only question is - do you want to read it before or after the movie comes out.

Absolutely recommend for the summer !

A fun summer read. It's hard to believe it's her first novel. Each scene is as real as real can get; they are crisp and not unnecessarily winding. The author is painsatkingly particular about describing each element in the scene, which makes you feel like you're actually part of the story. A perfect mix of romance and drama.

Enjoyed it, even if I felt the male lead was a bit two-dimensional. The female protagonist though has shades of... what's that author who's always writing about her heroines eating and how amazing they look when they eat and also what nice people they are? That one. Still, an engrossing piece of commercial fiction, good for a short trip or by the pool.

The only complaint i have with this chicklit is that it was not long enough. I loved the characters and the storyline and the references to Bollywood. Not to mention all the descriptive prose on wedding themes and events which was written with ease.

Write more books Ms. Dhariwal. Let us give Mills & Boon a run for their money!! ;)

A seventeen hour plane ride from LA to New Delhi can lead you to your soulmate if you are lucky enough like Risha ♥️

Pick it if you want to read a beautiful love story of a photographer & a billionaire amidst the chaos of punjabi wedding ♥️

Sakshama Puri Dhariwal's books are so stasfying in a way it fills my heart with so much love & warmness. Be it the main characters or the plot or the other characters they just make you laugh & sometimes fight for them through the pages. In all, they just make me feel all the emotions they go through (●’3)♡(ε`●)

Risha was just so unapologetically herself. She goes after her passion, having a job & escaping her parents matchmaking (so relatable when you come from an Indian family XD!). In one way her passion leads her to Arjun 🩵

Arjun is so stubborn in places that comes from his own experience but the way he is jealous OMG! I was literally screaming through the pages. I was just beaming with smile when ever he was falling for risha without realising. It was kind of adorable (。♡‿♡。)

"Because you've been the only thing on my mind all day"

Their journey starts from Arjun sacrificing his chocolate dessert to Arjun letting go of his stupid ego ( realising how dumb he is) finally to a forever. Their relationship builds slowly; with stolen glances, staring & so much fun teasing. It was fun & exciting to read them (。・ω・。)ノ♡

I really loved Rishabh's charchater. He was soooo much fun doing all the meddling (ㆁωㆁ) and ofcourse Grandma was spot on. They always are so no surprise there :p

I just felt Risha should have made Arjun pay more for his stupidity than accepting him in two pages. He was really an idiot for hurting her in the way he did in spite of knowing her well. And really where is the drama? :p

Overall, a good read (◍•ᴗ•◍)✧*。

And with that I have completed all her books. These were really refreshing from the ones I normally read and I could have kept on reading if there were more (ʘᴗʘ✿)

Do you have a book that you've read multiple times but still can't seem to get enough of it? Sakshama Puri Dhariwal's The Wedding Photographer is that book for me.

I was given this book as a thank you by Penguin Random House, India after I interned with them (Major life moment?) but before that, I was given this book to get a feel of the India Metropolitan Reads that PRH publishes. Best. Decision. Ever.

You want to experience the Big Fat Indian Wedding that includes all the pomp and circus? I can't recommend a better book for you. Quite the quintessential Romantic Comedy, this is your cliched Bollywood movie, without all the angst, in a book and it is so much fun!

The writing is simple and flowing and the dialogues are a mix of English and Punjabi adding more to the fun factor. The characters are real. Like, I know a few people from my family and friends that resemble these characters.

Light-hearted and fun this book was exactly what I look for when I need a little pick-me-up.

PS. Drunk Nani, her way of talking and her wild escapades for the win!

There are days that i read back to back very heavy duty, full of mysteries , suspence kind of books. And there are days i read back to back books that make are light hearted ,full of laughter, love etc.

So while searching for a light read i came across this book by @sakshama THE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER.

The plot of the book is very simple - wedding photographer meets rich and handsome khanna (our cute khatri boy) on a 17hour flight after she gets upgraded (lucky girl). Cupid strikes. As luck would have it she is covering his sister's wedding.
The wedding potrays a typical big fat north indian wedding. It took me back to all the weddings i have attended in delhi.
Dance ,dhamaka, beautiful clothes ,parties , guys hitting on girls and lots of alcohol.
Admist all of this the cuteness of how they fall for each other.
I loved the wit and romance in this book. It makes you want to believe in love at first sight.
I read this book at one go and it made me crack up (quite loudly🙈🙈) at many instances. It lived up to its Romantic comedy genre to a T.
I absolutely loved how each character had been sketched out.
But my absolute favourite character in this book was the sassy Nani.
It's a must read.

Honestly, I was really rooting for this. I'm constantly looking for well-written South Asian romances because the descriptions, comedy and references are just funnier, relatable, closer to home. That being said, this was super disappointing. I thought the character arcs were barely explored, everyone was flat-ish to me. The ending or conflict resolution was the disappointment of the whole novel, its abrupt, unconvincing and just looked like the author had a word limit and needed to wrap up the story in one chapter. Neither the characters, nor the dialogues were memorable. The witty banter in the beginning was promising for a brief second, yet this book failed to make me care for the individual characters, couple, the family - literally the one big goal for any romance. Do not recommend buying a physical copy for this because I honestly couldn't see myself going back a second time.

This book helped me find my lost passion for reading in a single go. Risha an independent, string and level headed journalist for one of the leading news company also has a passion for photography. She is a hustler juggling between reality and dreams, which helps me connect with her. On the other hand Arjun not your typical jerk business tycoon. The reason for his arrogance is understandable. But apart from being skeptical at times the guy is an absolute sweetheart. Everyone's feelings matters to him even of the labour contractor jeopardizing his dream project. Arjun's nani, Rohan, Nitisha, Rishabh, Vikram and Nidhi were absolute and a dream team for anyone to have as wingmen.
The book was an absolute feast for a romcom reader.

Quick, light and breezy are the words that describe 'The Wedding Photographer'. I am not generally fan of Indian rom com writers but this one enjoyable read. The story is fast paced you don't get bored even with a predictable setting of a big fat punjabi wedding in Delhi.

The humor and many colorful characters make for the predictability. The plot is simple rich boy meets cute girl on a plane and They have a crackling chemistry one misunderstanding boom happy ending.

I loved the way the chemistry between Risha and Arjun its just fantastic. It's a perfect plot to be turned into a movie this a quick read just what the doctor ordered on a lazy weekend.

Unputdownable and relatable! The hilarious characters brighten-up the not-so-complex plot. Never once were the characters overbearing. The protagonist is empowered-enough making it a perfect chic-lit and not merely a sexy rom-com. The kind of book you can approach to get-over the hangover of finishing all Anuja Chauhan novels. Helps you come out of the reverie of the perfect world created only in her novels. Hinglish is used in dialogues but not at the compromise of grammar and vocabulary. So much so that you may even have to refer to a dictionary to relish each and every adjective that nuances the characters and makes the scenes more picturesque!
