2.5 - "You can’t win em’ all." Stars.

One Wild Night takes readers back to the Briscoe Ranch Resort and its recurring characters for another visit. And although the third book in the authors One and Only Texas Series, it can absolutely be read as a standalone.

Two reckless, hungry souls looking for escape…

I have read a number of books by Melissa Cutler now, and I am going to blunt and say this book is the least favorite I have read by her, and by a long way. There were numerous things I noted that didn’t work for me, but you know you are on a hiding to nothing when you cannot bring yourself to really like or empathize with the lead characters or find any other words for the story-line apart from ‘ridiculous’ and ‘overcooked’.

All of the previous books in the series revolve around the Resort as does Skye and Gentry’s story in part, but the author seemed to step away from the path that she has followed with the previous couples in that these two didn’t really make sense together, the chemistry between them was non-existent, and there were parts of the story that just seemed to be added for effect rather than having any real relevance to the plot. I won’t go into detail but there is a scenario in the first half that takes place in a Nashville night club between our lovers that just left me cringing, then the second half just got even more extreme.

Granny June, kept me entertained in parts, but I can’t say this is a book I am going to remember with any fondness. I hope the author reverts back to the formula that was working so well with the previous books, if this series has any further additions, because it worked 100% better than the set-up in this one did.

Skye Martinez has reached a time in her life that she wants nothing more than to finally find the right man to settle down with and start a family. Skye's mother thinks she can cast a spell that will help Skye attract the right man into her life, someone stable and local that is ready for marriage. After the spell is cast Skye finds herself being asked out constantly but still really not impressed with her options.

One night while working her job at the Briscoe Ranch Resort Skye meets a handsome stranger at the stable and the pair go for a midnight ride. Little did Skye know that this handsome bad boy is none other than the famous country music singer Gentry Wells. Gentry is the opposite of what Skye wants in a man but the attraction is there so what would one last wild night hurt?

One Wild Night is the third full length book in the One and Only Texas series, there are also a couple of shorter novellas in the series. The books all take place at the Briscoe Ranch Resort but as with most romance series it is not necessary to have read other books in the series to enjoy a single read. There are mentions of other previous characters though for those that have read the earlier books.

For myself this one had a bit of a contradictory edge to it that had me a bit back and forth on how to rate this one. Skye is close to her family who are very religious and she mentions several times throughout how she feels she's punished for her actions but the entire story is based on her and her "wild night". Now the night in question was pretty steamy and the setting is enjoyable along with having the famous country artist wanting more for himself so otherwise with this one I found the story enjoyable enough but I wish Skye hadn't been so wishy washy about her religious beliefs.

Skye Martinez is trying to get rid of the wild streak that she has been known her life for having and show that she can responsibly take over the family business, Briscoe Ranch Resort. That's after one last wild fling that she is sure will cure the wild hair she has always had. The country singing bad boy will take care of all her last minute needs!

Gentry Wells wants to revive his career and playing this wedding might help it. When taking a breather in the barn be runs into Skye, the two hit it off and end up spending the weekend together. Skye doesn't want a relationship with anyone, but Gentry knows that he can talk her into the something that he knows is between them!!

I really liked this book in the series! It isn't my first and I enjoy peeks into past characters. Great read!

One Wild Night by Melissa Cutler was an emotional and heartfelt read.
The storyline kept me turning the pages and while I didn't enjoy this one as much as the other books in the One and Only Texas series I'm still happy to have read it.
Watching the relationship between Gentry and Skye unfold left me a little flat at times. I wasn't totally convinced these two were right for each other.
Makes me sad as this has been a very enjoyable series to date.

I'm a fan of Melissa Cutler writing, and while One Wild Night wasn't my fav book I still recommend this series as it's been very entertaining read.

One Wild Night 'One Wild Night' by Melissa Cutler is book Three in the "One and Only Texas" series.   This is the story of Skye and Gentry.  I have not yet read the other books so for me this was a standalone book.  Skye is getting ready to take over the family business which is a major life changing experience for her.  Gentry is a country music singer who has a bad boy reputation and hasn't really settled in roots.  But Gentry too is at a point in his life that he is thinking about making changes by starting to write his own songs and starting fresh again.  When Skye and Gentry meet they settle on a hot and heavy night but that was to be it but as things go fate comes up with something else.   Although Skye is ready to settle down with the family business and start a family Gentry isn't someone she sees a fitting into what she thinks she wants.  Really sweet romance that I enjoyed watching these two people grow and come together. Skye Martinez is determined to shed her rebellious streak, since few years back it brought her nothing but heartbreak. Skye wants to settle down with a dependable, kind-heart Catholic man, to build a family of her own. Just like what her mother has always wanted from her. Meanwhile Gentry Wells is the bad boy of country music, with songs like "Beer O Clock" and "Well Hung", well, Gentry definitely is NOT one to put down roots. So what happens when the two meet and have one wild weekend night together?

One Wild Night is the third book in Cutler's One and Only Texas series; but can still be read as stand-alone. I am not completely in love with the book, though. While Gentry and Skye are pretty hot together -- boy that one wild night is WILD! -- I didn't feel the right emotional connection for me to root for them.

I guess I wasn't really amused with the drama presented ... especially after the dramatic turn around 2/3rd of the book, .

Individually, both Skye and Gentry are pretty okay as characters. There are traits from them that I admire.

Gentry's career is pretty much built by other people -- including songs that are written by others. He might have that bad boy image but Gentry clearly wants to shake it all off. He wants to write his own songs, staying true to himself. The part where he holds audition for his new band, and Skye's grandmother ends up auditioning as keyboardist is a HOOT ("Dude, you can’t have a full-on geriatric band. It’s not right for the image.”). And one cannot say that he's not dedicated to Skye...

As for Skye, she might think that she needs to let go of her wild side. But I definitely think that it is what makes Skye who she is. She just needs to see past the heartbreak, to realize that she is not being punished for her rebellion.

Verdict: I didn't dislike it but I wasn't overjoyed with it either. It was just an okay read for me. And seeing I felt the same way for book #2 and the novella, maybe I have to pause reading this series for now.

Jessica has managed her parents family owned business and has plans to take over soon. Along with that are plans to maybe find someone to settle down with. Unfortunately, she has been looking for the perfect love in all the wrong places. She’s even gone as far as accepting her mom’s help but to no avail. Frustrated, she’s given up the search but found herself taking a no-commitment adventure with a rockstar. The offer is too good; why in the world would she refuse? This rockstar is to die for and all he wants is to be with her. She doesn’t know it yet, but a true commitment is looming over her.

Gentry has lost his mojo and is doing all that he can to get it back. He’s taken all kinds of measures and nothing has worked until meeting a girl who has no idea who he was. Taken advantage of this opportunity, he spends time with her. He had no idea his feelings will go beyond expectations.

I loved this small-town/rockstar themed storyline. Cutler did a great job melding two different worlds into one without overtaking the other. I love that she kept Jessica grounded despite falling for a rockstar. Cutler also kept the scenes light and full of laugh-out-loud moments. I can honestly say that is consistent with all the books in this series. I’m hoping there is more to come.

As I might have mentioned earlier, I've really read some great cowboy romances lately and I'm tickled to add Cutler to my list of favorite cowboy romantic writers which include Carolyn Brown and Linda Lael Miller.
I loved that Gentry was a country music star. I so love the TV series Nashville and he could have been a great character here. Though this is the third book in the series, it was a complete story on it's own. Can't wait to go back and read the earlier books in the series.
I loved how great Skye and Gentry were together and read this book till very, very late in the night.

This is the third book in the One and Only Texas series but can easily be read standalone. I must say these is definitely my least favorite of the series so far. Gentry and Skye just didn't click for me the way the other couples have. I know the whole opposites attract thing and usually I can see how the couple can compromise and make it work. These two are just too different. He's a big time country singer. She's happily a small town girl looking for a guy to settle down with. What was suppose to be "One Wild Night" turns into much more which neither character seems to handle well. Unfortunately this one never rings true for me.

‘One Wild Night’ is as the title suggests: the accidental meeting of 2 strangers at different crossroads of their lives, who then decide to have a weekend fling and then say goodbye. A country music has been, strung around for years to keep up his reputation and raunchy songs with the manager of Briscoe Ranch’s housekeeping whose bad girl is straining at the leash as she battles the values instilled in her from the very beginning—it’s pretty much an unlikely pairing to survive if not for a crisis that happens to turn things around.

This is the sort of read that puts me at a loss for review, particularly when it felt like characters who were doing the wrong things (or sometimes the so-called ‘right’ things) for all the wrong reasons. The accident—a major turning point—suddenly gave Gentry a 180-degree turn from a man who was convinced that he was a commitment-phobe to the other extreme where he found himself going to convert to Catholicism (because it was one of the terms and conditions that Skye had laid out) and become the stable man Skye always wanted. It’d taken life as he knew it away, flipped that mental switch and I disliked how this new Gentry only emerged because the accident gave him no option but to reevaluate what he’d been doing; essentially, I doubted that he would have ever voluntarily chosen the kind of lifestyle that Skye was ultimately looking for or prioritising her because his flagging career came first. Yet the excuses simply vanished with his finger and his sudden transformation kept me in continual disbelief throughout. For Skye, unable to shrug off her religious upbringing, kept thinking of every bad thing happening as heavenly punishment that was meted out to her with the accident had me grimacing, even as she swung from one emotion to another that made her indecisive about what she really wanted.

I’d be the first to say that the kind of religious guilt present throughout made me uneasy...as it was probably meant to be. That it’d resulted in the self-indulgent and sometimes irrational, immature behaviour of the characters—while providing the impetus for dictating directly and indirectly how both Gentry and Skye behaved however—was thoroughly frustrating. Gentry/Skye as a result, didn’t exactly appeal to me, as their relationship simple seemed overshadowed by Skye’s religious convictions (yet contrary behaviour) and Gentry’s seeming inability to do what he really wanted but never managing it until the accident pushed him into it.

The One and Only Texas series has so far, a hit or miss for me. Unfortunately, I think I should have given this one a pass.

This is the third book in the One and Only Texas series but it can definitely be read on its own. Skye is ready to settle down and have a family. But she has a list of qualities she's looking for in a man. Unfortunately, any of the men that fit her checklist fail to excite her passion for life. Then she meets Gentry and is convinced she can be happy with settling down with someone else as long as she has just one night with the bad boy cowboy. Filled with humor and romance, this was a great story that will definitely have you looking for your own bad boy cowboy.

This is the second book I have read by this author. So I knew the author can bring the heat. Which in this book there was heat, yet I was looking for more substance behind the heat. In this case, it did not work for me to just have Skye and Gentry full on having a jumping into each other's arms. I wanted to get to know more about just who Skye and Gentry are first. In fact, I actually wished that Skye's mother and grandmother were involved more in the story. To be honest, they may have been but after getting almost half way, I could not read any further. The reason that I wished for more of Skye's mother and grandmother is because they brought the humor that I felt would have kept this story interesting. So, I am one for one with this author.

Skye Martinez works at the Briscoe ranch along with her mother and she is not one to just sit back and let things go by. So when she gets the opportunity to help out a young couple elope with a cowboy she met in the barn she goes for it. Gentry Wells is a Country music star who needs to have a hit record but can’t seem to write a song. Now after a night of riding horses with Skye words are starting to come to him. Meeting in the barn the next night they find the couple who is supposed to be getting and Gentry instead takes them and Skye to Nashville so they can elope. After they get married Skye decides to spend one night with Gentry and she realizes that he is popular. Back at the Briscoe ranch it has been three weeks since her one night with Gentry and she is still trying to figure out why weird guys are attracted to her. Not hearing from him and not expecting to also she goes out on a few dates but they are no good. Gentry wrote five songs but now can’t write any more. He needs to see Skye, so on his motorcycle he goes to her and then tragic. They are in a crash both are hurt but alive and both need to tell the other how they feel. Gentry does something that surprises everyone and moves to her town he is planning on living there now and wanting to be close to her. Skye is confused about her feelings and her mother is not helping the situation at all. The two of them must work it out. The characters are good and other than a few places the story drags a little over all it was good. I got this book from Netgalley.com I gave 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

To start out I his series. I love how melissa Cutler has come up with some of the most hilarious scenarios that I have to wonder how her mind works. You are guaranteed a good laugh in everyone of these books.
In this book Skye Martinez is tired of the dead end duds she been dating and longs for the perfect man. At her wits end and against her better judgement she allowed mother to cast a love spell. Now they are, practically falling at her feet. Then in walks Gentry Wells country musics bad boy. Gentry is everything Skye is not looking for but everything she needs. Gentry and Skye spend a worlwind weekend and go their separate ways, if only they can stop thinking about each other. Skye has given Gentry his muse back and the idea of a different life then before. Gentry goes back for Skye but now he's got to convince her he's the man for her when he's seems to be the farthest from it.
This book is not my favorite of the series so far but I think Gentry is the hottest character of the series.

Skye Martinez was looking for the perfect man. For her.
Being trapped in yet another blind date, she could not wait to get rid of another man who had not yet grown up emotionally.
Working in the family housekeeping company, company created by Skye's grandmother, she'd rather have to clean one of the rooms at the Briscoe Ranch Resort than to be there with Vince Biaggi.
When Skye's mother again hears her daughter complain about another horrible date, she decides to help by doing a little bit of "magic."
At the request, Skye asks everything she wants in a man.

A few days later, there would be a new event at the resort, the wedding of a country music producer's daughter. And one of the guests was exactly what Skye didn't want in a man.
And that's exactly why he was the perfect one!!

A contemporary romance with funny and light scenes, and showing that your Mr Right may be disguised as Mr Totally Wrong.

I have read all of the One and Only series that takes place on Briscoe ranch and I have to say they have never disappointed me and this book is no exception. I absolutely adore Ms. Cutlers writing style because it is so unique to her and her story lines are always different and yet the same in the important ways. Throughout the series you will come to know many of the employees of Briscoe ranch and they all become a major part of the series in one way or another.
Skye Martinez is ready to settle down her wild ways need to finish and she wants a man that her family can be proud of. What better way to accomplish that then to use the magic her mother is always offering up? Now with the help of a love spell it is raining men...... and Skye is done with it. But after running away from one of her numerous dates of the last few weeks she runs into a man in the stable. A man like no other that she has seen in a while, because he meets none of the criteria of the love spell and as a result he is a safe bet for a night of fun and forgetting her woes.
Gentry Wells is a country musician, but lately he has had a dry spell when it comes to writing music. So when inspiration finally hits after meeting Skye he wants to get to know her better so that he can continue his career. Now normally that would be no problem after all the women he usually knows wants to be with him. But Skye is not part of the norm. She wanted the fabulous weekend and then no more contact because she is serious about settling down with the perfect man.
But thanks to some magical interference they are destined to continually run into each other. Or maybe they keep coming together because of the explosive chemistry that the breathe into the air around them.
Now this book is a tad different then the others, not only in the romance plot, the intercourse is quite explosive and is definitely not for the faint of heart. There was sex outside of the house and in public. So if that is not to your taste then this book is not for you. However if you want a book about change, redemption and understanding that not everything in life is a punishment then this book is definitely for you. This was a great read that I would highly recommend.

One Wild Night by Melissa Cutler
One and Only Texas #3

Really enjoyed this book! It took me back to some of the wilder times of my own so I could, in many ways related to this story. I was the religious girl (not Catholic) told to be one way when I wanted to be another so felt with and understood where Skye Martinez was coming from. I have since outgrown my feelings and beliefs of those long gone years BUT if I had met a Gentry Wells who was a bad boy “changed”…well…suffice to say…this book resonated with me.

So, the story… Skye is in management of housekeeping at Briscoe Ranch Resort. Her family is all important to her and she is trying to live up to family expectations – social, professional and religious. She believes it is time to settle down with a “good” man an start a family…so…she is dating…a lot. Gentry is at the resort to play for a wedding. He is jaded, knows his songs are lackluster and he is in the process of reviving his career while playing a part he doesn’t feel fits him very well any more. One evening the two meet in the resort barn while taking a time out from life. They go for a ride, become involved in a couple’s elopement, spend a wild weekend together and then part. They do meet up again later and there are twists, turns and surprises aplenty. The chemistry is hot between them but there is also a lot of understanding and caring from Gentry for Skye. Skye takes a bit longer to come around but their eventual HEA was fun to observe. The supporting cast was great. The grannies were entertaining. Friends from previous books made an appearance. And…I would love to hear more about musicians Nick and Logan, I wonder if Skye’s sister Gloria will find a HEA in a future book, and I also am eager to find out what will happen next at the resort.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC. This is my honest review.

A wild streak and catholic guilt have the heroine struggling to find the life she thinks she wants and a hero looking to find his voice in songwriting and the real man under his professional persona with an adorably sweet and lovable quirky cast of characters along for the ride.

This is the first book by this author that I have read. I look forward to more in the future. Highly recommended. I was gifted a copy of this book through NetGalley for my honest review.

Skye wants a normal life with a normal man but when she meets Gentry a slightly down on his luck country singer she can't help herself. Although initially she doesn't know who he is, she is hit with lust. So they agree to one wild night.
Not for the faint hearted this is a steamy novel. Drawn into their story it is one of the those books that you can't take seriously but one which you can't put down.

Very good story about two people at crossroads in their lives. Skye is the assistant manager of her family's housekeeping business at the Briscoe Ranch Resort. She's decided that she's ready to settle down with a good man and have those children she's always wanted. She's desperate enough to let her mother cast a love spell to get her the perfect man. The problem is, there's a wild streak inside her that keeps getting in the way of her good intentions. Just as she lectures herself about what she needs to do, she encounters a hot cowboy and decides to put off her plans for one more night. That hot cowboy is none other than Gentry Wells, country music star well-known for his bad boy antics and his belief that he is not the settling down type. But that life is starting to wear a little thin and has affected his songwriting mojo. A late night trail ride with a pretty woman provides him with a distraction and inspiration.

The first encounter between Skye and Gentry was great. Gentry is looking for some peace of mind, away from the current mess of his career. Riding has always been his escape, so he sneaks off to the resort stables for a late night ride, where he meets Skye. The sparks between them are strong, but Skye is determined not to give in. She doesn't expect to see him again, but the next day they end up working together to help a desperate bride and groom elope. It doesn't take much effort for Gentry to talk Skye into coming along. He senses the wild streak in her, even though she tries hard to deny it. He pulls out all the stops to give her that wild night. Skye feels safe giving in to Gentry because he doesn't meet any of her requirements for her forever man. She can have her wild night and walk away with no regrets, and forget all about it. Only it doesn't work out that way.

The development of the relationship between Gentry and Skye was not an easy one. In Skye, Gentry discovers the inspiration he needs to revitalize his music career. He can't stop thinking about her, and the words and music flow. But the longer he's away from her, the more the inspiration fades. He fights against the realization that Skye fills a hole in his life, one that he doesn't want to admit to. Skye can't forget Gentry either, and she fights it even harder. She continues to look for a man that meets all her qualifications, even though none of them come anywhere close to creating any passion in her heart. When Gentry unexpectedly returns to Dulcet, needing to reconnect with Skye, she can't resist him. I loved seeing them reconnect, with the attraction between them burning as strong as ever.

But fate intervenes in a way that turns their lives upside down. I ached for both of them in this part. Skye is convinced that everything that happened is her fault because she went against everything that she had been raised to believe. Unexpected news sends her running scared, and she pushes Gentry away with every bit of determination she can. She doesn't want to think about him or the mess that her life has become. Gentry's life is also upended, throwing his entire future into question. It has also been a wake-up call for him, and he realizes that he wants more out of his life. I loved seeing him figure out what he had to do, and then follow through on that knowledge. I loved the way that he gave Skye the space that she demanded while continuing to prepare for his siege against her objections. The scene between Skye and her grandmother is great, as Skye finally realized that she'd been fighting against herself. I especially enjoyed her amazement at everything that Gentry has done to show his love for her. There's still one more battle to fight, and that's the one with her family, especially her mother. The scene at the church was fantastic with the way that Skye finally stands up to family expectations and goes after what she wants. There's an incredibly emotional scene at the hospital that really showed the depth of the love between Skye and Gentry. The epilogue was a terrific glimpse into how their lives have changed.

Like the earlier books, this one has some really fun moments that lighten up some of the darkness. Skye's grandmother, Mama Lita is a hoot with her anti-men attitude and attempts to get Skye to be herself. My favorite part was when Gentry was auditioning locals for his backup band. Mama Lita was a riot, as was Granny June. The guitar player was also unexpected, and Gentry's reaction to the three of them was priceless.

2.5 stars -- I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.

This is going to be another review that's kind of choppy b/c it's based on bulletpoint notes. But basically the jist is that this was just not a book for me. I have read one other novella set in this world, and I enjoyed that one, but this one did not have that same magic (and no, it is not required to read other books in the series, this one can stand alone). I did not like the characters, I did not like the plot, and really, this book felt like a mediocre Harlequin.

The characters did not feel consistent AT ALL. I mean, I didn't like them that much either, but I really just didn't believe their growth. They both felt superficial and shallow, lacking the depth that really sucks me in.

I really did not appreciate the Catholic guilt in this book. I get that they really feel that guilt and families are like that, but Skye’s mother was not even remotely redeeming. It made it hard to understand why family was so important to Skye when you didn't see that... Well, a little. One good moment with Gloria, but for it to be so important to Skye, I expected to see it more. Her father was awesome too, but I just felt sorry for him. I REALLY needed the Mom to have more dimension so that I could understand why Skye felt so strongly about her family and the values she was raised with.

And the conflict Skye was under...I just didn't quite get it. I knew where the author was going in broad strokes, but I don't think it was effectively achieved. I guess I just didn't feel her inner struggle, or understand how it all played out inside her head.

I didn't get Gentry at all. Maybe if we got to know his past a bit more, I would have known what drove him to be who he was. It was like the author had these broad strokes ideas of who these characters were, but didn't take the time to flesh them out and make them believable.

And I did NOT feel the spark between them past the first night in the stables (that night was hot). In fact, the sex scene really didn't have much emotion, it felt like an erotica scene (which is fine, but not how this book is marketed). I want a connection between my lovers. *shrugs*

And finally, I know this was an ARC and not the final copy, but it was riddled with mistakes. Typos, wrong names, timeline inconsistencies...I sincerely hope that it had a major clean up before release. Usually ARCs only have a few typos left to clean up, this one felt like an earlier copy.

So yeah. It sounds really bad, but it was mostly just disappointing and meh for me. Like I didn't hate anything, I just wanted MORE from like EVERYTHING.

Get ready for the ride of your life...

A cowgirl at heart, Skye Martinez has a rebellious streak she's determined to shake. Especially since she's poised to take the reins of her family's business at Briscoe Ranch Resort. It's time for her to settle down and get serious about her future...right after one last night of fun with a handsome stranger she meets in the resort's stable. But when a midnight horseback ride turns into a red-hot weekend with one of country music's biggest stars, Skye's world is rocked beyond her wildest dreams...

Gentry Wells rode his bad boy image all the way to the top of the country music charts. But churning out hits has dried up his creativity, and he can't remember the last time his life was his own. Skye is a sexy distraction he can't resist, especially since she breathes new life into his music. They bring out the wild side in each other, which is great for Gentry's career—but a major threat to Skye's. Too bad he's fallen in love with her. With their hearts and futures on the line, can Gentry convince Skye to turn their joyride into a real chance to ride off into the sunset together?

Review:

This book surprised me about halfway through it. The first half was light, fun and sexy and then you get a little more than halfway and you get walloped with emotion tugging romance. Don't get me wrong I liked the whole book, it was just wham with the drama. At one point I was getting teary and I love a good romance that makes me invest so much in the characters that I cry for them. No, I am not giving away plot points or spoilers, so if you want to know what happens, read the book. I loved Skye and Gentry, they were perfect for each. Some of the other secondary characters had me laughing especially the granny's. Again, I picked up a book in the middle of the series, but this can totally be read as a stand alone in my opinion. This was my first time reading this Author and I really enjoyed this romance that took me through all kinds of emotions.

Skye Martinez is the manager of her mother’s cleaning business. She has been married once, only for three months. She found him cheating on her in their trailer. Her ex appealed to her wild side and got her out of the small town where she grew up. Therefore, she decided to change what she’s looking for in a man. Since returning to her small town, she has gone out on lots of unsuccessful dates.

Gentry Wells is a burnt out, successful, country music star. His image is of a womanizing party boy, one that he has outgrown but still continues the façade. He doesn’t have the best track record with relationships so feels he’s doomed to crash and burn every time, so why start anything. He has been commanded to sing at his record company’s boss’s daughter’s rehearsal dinner and wedding. He is in a rut and has writer’s block.

These two meet when they are both trying to get away from the craziness of the wedding festivities. They spend a crazy, sex filled weekend together and then go their separate ways. They each continue to ruminate about said weekend in their heads until Gentry decides to make a surprise visit. The story was entirely too predictable and I didn’t really feel the connection between the two.

Loved the grannies! They definitely added some humor. Loved the members of the second band. Skye’s mom was annoying throughout the book. Skye’s need for her mother’s approval, even though she’s a grown woman, grates after a while.

This was not a memorable read. This is my second book by this author and I haven’t been impressed, so most likely my last.

Wow, there was a lot of story in Melissa Cutler’s latest book in her Texas series. Country music, sexy characters and a romance as high as the stars takes two lonely people from messing up to meeting the right one. It only took a magic spell to make it happen…

Skye Martinez knew trouble when she met it, and unfortunately, she met it that night. When the handsome stranger she was crushing on turned out to be country music’s wild bad boy Gentry Wells, it was like another case of Deja Vu. She’d already been there and had the t-shirt. Her disastrous marriage to circus performer Mike had ended with him cheating on her, her miscarrying their baby, and her returning home, hat in hand, to her parents. She knew better than to tangle with another traveling lothario, right?

Gentry Wells had lost his mojo along with his desire to be the hard-drinking, woman chasing hound he was portrayed to be in the press. He honestly believed, though, that he wasn’t made for settling down until he met Skye. He was knocked out by the way she made him feel, but Skye was looking for a man to marry and have kids with.

As you can imagine, that didn’t stop them from exploring their crazy chemistry. I loved this story about second chances and learning to accept yourself completely. Lots of surprising twists and turns but a rocking HEA. Read it!

I loved watching these two fall in love! I enjoyed all of their adventures, and their sadness. It was a good story, from start to finish. I couldn't put it down. Getting to know them, their pasts, their desire for their futures, it was a good read. Definitely recommend.

This book ended up not being what I was expecting. I’ve read the rest of the series and have enjoyed all of them. I went into this one expecting it to be like the rest and while it had its moments, it was pretty different from the other books. Sky is more rebellious, a bit wilder at heart than the other heroines. It’s obvious she plans to put down roots where she is even though a part of her wants to see the world. Her weekend with Gentry is hot as all get out…unexpectedly so in fact. I mean I knew Melissa Cutler could bring the heat, but there is a scene at a club that was so scorching hot I thought my Kindle was going to melt.

I really liked Gentry and Sky together. At first, of course, they’re trying to fight it and make it seem like it is just physical attraction, but there is something else that is drawing them together. They are so different and want different things out of life it just doesn’t seem like they could ever make anything other than a physical relationship work between them. It’s amazing how perspectives change when you’re life and the life of someone you care about flashes before your eyes.

I still really enjoy the kooky cast of characters that around Briscoe Ranch Resort. Granny June is nutty enough, but we get added into the mix Sky’s grandmother Mama Lita who gives Granny June a run for her money. Together, they are hilarious. Melissa Cutler can write one heck of an emotional rollercoaster that is also filled with steamy, sexy moments. I look forward to reading what she puts out next.

Skye Martinez is ready to settle down, get married and hopefully start a family. But first, she's determined to sow her wild oats one last time with a handsome stranger. Except Skye never took into account that she'd end up pregnant. Can Gentry convince Skye to take a chance on love, even when he's the total opposite of the man she imagined she'd end up with forever?

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Cutler, and I've got to say that I absolutely loved it. Right from the start, this book was captivating, fast-paced and one I found hard to put down because of the situation Skye finds herself in. Why can't dating be all fun, instead of a woman wanting to escape because her date is a dud? How will she get out of her date without sounding overly rude to the man she's with at the time? Will she finally tell her family that she's had enough of their meddling or will she continue to let her family help her find The One? However, it was the moment where the hero and heroine met where this story really drew me in, because Skye needs the distraction the hero offers her.

The dialogue was compelling, well-written and drew me in because of the banter between the main characters, all that they go through on their journey to happy ever after and their back stories. After what happened with the hero's latest music album, he can't afford distractions. Yet, it seems, the heroine is good for him. She becomes his muse, a way for him to re-connect with his love for music. However, the dialogue was also intense too, due to the obstacles these two face and the judgment the heroine faces from her family about her making poor decisions when it comes to relationships. Will Gentry be able to win Skye's family over? Will the hero be able to prove to Skye that he's the right guy for her?

As for the main characters, I loved the hero and heroine. Skye is endeavoring to exorcise her rebellious streak by having a good time with the hero. What they do for a couple that are likely to verbally snap at their families if they don't get away from them was admirable, and I couldn't wait to discover how the relationship between the hero and heroine would go from there. They both want different things out of life with Skye wanting to settle down and Gentry happy to continue being single, yet, they struggle to forget about the other or completely let them go.

Skye is strong, brave and I liked that she took a chance on Gentry when he's the complete opposite to the sort of guy she's looking to settle down with. Also, I liked how close she was with her family, and how they think they're helping her by picking out men they think she'll like. Except, the men are absolute duds in the way they're either complete momma boys or totally unsuitable for other reasons. While Gentry, he faces a lot of obstacles throughout this story such as whether he'll overcome his music writing block, whether he can convince Skye to give him a chance at happy ever after when he's the complete opposite of what she's looking for and the battle he faces with winning over her mother. I felt sorry for him when it came to dealing with his agent and Skye's mom, but I liked how his best friend supported him when needed.

Overall, Ms. Cutler has delivered a wonderful read filled with plenty of emotion, really good secondary characters and a fast-paced plot that entertained me from start to finish. The way this story ended was perfect, as Gentry would do whatever it takes to win Skye back. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up the best, because I discovered whether Gentry bounced back to find success again with his music. I would recommend One Wild Night by Melissa Cutler, if you enjoy books by authors Jennifer Ryan, Cat Johnson or Donna Michaels.

I have read this series from the beginning, enjoying each book, but I have to say that this one is my favorite because of the depth of emotions that run throughout the story. Ms Cutler created the perfect storm in the love Gentry and Skye share...their connection was palpable with a chemistry that took my breath away. The moments of heartbreak were overshadowed by the heartwarming joy that Gentry and Skye brought to each other.

The descriptions of the first night time ride that the couple took was mesmerizing, created in such a way that it was so easy seeing it unfold in my mind's eye. I don't think I've ever been more captivated then during that first horseback ride they took together. I'm so happy with the ending of the story...it could not have been any more perfect then it was. Ms Cutler keeps me coming back for more of her stories...I just hope that this is not the end to a pretty touching series.

Crikey. I tried to write the plot to this out for a friend last night and it struck me how bonkers this is. Really quite bonkers. And I've been back and checked the description on NetGalley and it's not really signposted there. I kind of enjoyed this in a WTF kind of way, but really, it's not my sort of thing. I'm not sure who this is aimed at - it's too steamy to be Christian romance, but there's a lot of religion and faith-based conflict in there. And also, bizarrely, magic spells.

So to summarise, really, not the sort of messaging I want from romances (as the spoiler tags explain), but it gets 2 stars for the sheer bonkersness.

Skye Martinez, a housekeeping manager at her family's Texas ranch, meets country star Gentry Wells one night in the stables. The next day, the pair finds themselves in an adventure. And that continues multiple times throughout the book. High on angst, Catholic guilt, and drama - but not overdone dramatic. It was just enough to keep me from putting the book down. I had to know what was happening on the next page.

I read this book in one day, totally ignoring everything else I needed to do. The characters were unique and diverse, and I'm not aware of any other book that is similar to this story. While this is book three, it could easily be read as a stand alone. The romance was sweet, the adult scenes were dirty and sexy, and the secondary characters provided humor along the way. I'd highly recommend this book as your next read for this summer.
