Mr. Jenkins, of Left Behind fame, does really well with this quick, but engaging mystery. Like an old-school television whodunit, this one features a great plot and likable characters in Margo and Spence.
I didn’t care for or about Margo and there were more minor characters than I could keep track of. Phillip was a convenience. I didn’t find the story believable. The writing was smooth and flowed like butter but to no good end. I’m not interested in reading any further books in the series, though as a longtime fan of the author, I hope to find a better experience in another novel.
I love Jerry's blog; his debut novel, not that much. It is not bad, just not for me.
I found the story not to hold me enough, maybe because I'm always craving for something darker, sinister, eerie, and Margo is too teen-ish, even though it touches some deep concepts like religion. But, some three chapters in, I got bored of Margo's mystery and her dialogue with Philip.
I had to quit after just 2 very short chapters. The main characters was awful! I'm a far cry from a feminist but he was a totally callous, one-dimensional, chauvinist. I couldn't stand it. The main girl was no better.
I enjoyed this book primarily because it had such a different feel from the books I usually read. The voice was fresh and very different. I found the mystery intriguing as well as who the narrator was and how that was relevant to the title and how this was the first book in a series. Basically, there were a lot of questions and mysteries that kept me reading this book and made it enjoyable and hard to put down. I also appreciated the spiritual element of the book and really enjoyed the way the author portrayed the two main characters' journeys to trusting God.
The story pulled me in right from the beginning. Margo is attempting suicide and Phillip talks her out of it.
Romance blooms, as Phillip and Margo, seek to uncover something from her past. With God’s grace, they bravely move ahead with their plan.
The mystery continued throughout the story, all the way until the end.
I enjoyed this read, simply because I love seeing God in action. When He changes hearts, He does it in spite of the circumstances. And Margo’s background was torturous.
Even though the plot was a little far-fetched I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun easy read to unwind with on the weekend. I enjoyed Margo and Phillip's releationship with each other and with God. And I liked the fact that though they were both Christians they were at different places in their walk with the Lord. I'm becoming a huge fan of Jerry Jenkins. Now, if I could just get the courage to read the Left Behind: A Novel of the Earth's Last Days series...
The 1st in a series Margo is a mystery with a mission. Jerry tells the story of Margo and in the telling introduces the reader to Gods unconditional love and forgiveness. Jerry Jenkins later coauthored Left Behind series.
Margo is an intriguing tale of a girl with a dark past. As she digs deeper into her past she uncovers a secret that changes her life. A journey of redemption and forgiveness. Great story.
