When you know more about the topic than the author of the non-fiction book for children, it is surprising to find the author got their facts wrong...only a few glaring mis-statements, but I would expect the publisher or author to run the material by some kind of expert in the field, in this case a knowledgeable beekeeper or apiculture department. One photo is mis-labeled as "larvae" but strangely looks like a pile of undeveloped pupae, none of which should be in a pile of white like in the photo. The worst is the "All About Honey" part that says that a bee "chews and chews the nectar and turns it into honey". Not only incorrect, it doesn't even make sense -how would anyone "chew" nectar? Overall, it would be ok for an early reader to practice reading, but this non-fiction book is factually incorrect.

Read with my son -- this is one of the most comprehensive introduction of honey bees for young readers. Some books about bees stress on how they fly and produce honey, but the body shapes are simply wrong.

One more thing, though, that the book mentions honey as the only thing human intake from insects-- probably not 100% correct. Don't forget about the food coloring! Yet, that's gone too far.

A good information book overall.

My daughter was simply amazed at everything she learned from this book - particularly about how the bee sees - she has brought this up several times and we talk about how a bee may see particular flowers versus how we see them. Great book.
