This section, on the MLT and Germain Archambault, was my favourite.

"During the evening of October 30, a disturbance occurred in Montreal such as the city had never seen before. In a huge, carefully timed move, very much like an urban guerilla operation, about a thousand taxi drivers, students, and FLP and CIS activists blocked the approach to Dorval Airport and paralyzed traffic in several parts of the metropolitan area. Travelling in 250 taxis, the attackers struck at various strategic points, hurling Molotov cocktails and setting fire to buses and installations of the Murray Hill Company, which had a monopoly of the taxi business from Montreal's main airport.
"The operation had been planned by the Mouvement de libération du taxi (MLT), a new and very militant group founded in September. Its president, an old left-wing cab driver named Germain Archambault, had written a moving book entitled Le Taxi, métier de crève-faim (Driving a Cab, a Starvation Existence), published by Editions Parti Pris in 1964. He was a most unusual character. When he died in 1969, the "Internationale" was sung at his graveside, as he had requested. Among the leading activists of the MLT were Gaston Therrien, Marc Carbonneau, and an angry young man named Jacques Lanctôt."

The history of the FLQ is fascinating and Louis Fournier is a good narrator of it. Unlike the otherwise similar Baader-Meinhof Complex, FLQ is sympathetic to its characters, making it the richer and more enjoyable read. One problem I had with both these accounts of long-term movements is how choppily episodic they are. It might make for a more immersive read to follow one cell at a time over the entire period of its existence rather than to hop from person to person chronologically.
