Nadine aka Dini is a traveler at heart. She considers the world her home and practically lives out of her suitcases. When she’s not glaring at a blank page or abusing her poor keyboard, she spends her time reading, watching movies (preferably horror), pretends to work out, and hangs out with friends and family. Poor girl also suffers from a serious Marvel superhero addiction. So, if you run into her at night, wearing black, know she’s secretly dreaming of being the infamous Black Widow.

Her love for writing started in the sixth grade where she annoyed her classmates with a short story featuring Sailor Moon characters, a cemetery and creepy ghosts. Yes, she’s always been addicted to the dark side.

The Witch and the Hunter come together.

***3.5 Stars***

I just finished a book that I thoroughly enjoyed. It kept my attention from start to finish, made me want to get back to it as soon as possible if real life intruded and I was desperate to know how it would end. To me, these are outstanding reasons why a book stands out from the pack. Reading Karma definitely ticked a lot of boxes in the positive column, but unfortunately at the end, I was left a little disappointed. Not a lot disappointed mind you, just a little.

See, first and foremost I’m a romance reader and this one was sorely lacking in romantic feels. We start Karma with an introduction to Amanda a witch with some very special powers. From the very beginning, you can tell that Amanda is snarky, a little rude and honest to a fault. I kind of liked her. Then we meet Alex and to be honest I don’t particularly like him. He works for the FBI in the Paranormal Analysis Unit as a Hunter. He’s a good looking, arrogant, macho man who takes his job of hunting down evil very seriously. Alex is very close to his brother Jesse who works alongside him. Amanda and Alex had a relationship that ended abruptly when he found out that she had been keeping her abilities a secret from him. With their relationship ending badly (don’t blame her considering he’d held a gun to her head) it’s no surprise that Amanda is not stoked when Alex pops back into her life needing her help to find Jesse.

For most of the book, Alex is a jerk. Amanda isn’t much better, but I found my tolerance a lot higher considering how things ended between them. Besides, Alex needs her help, not the other way around. The sexual tension between them jumps off the pages, but never really gets dealt with or explained. The short answers never really left me satisfied with how and why they broke up. I didn’t like that up till the very last page there were still questions unanswered. I hated that Amanda was able to jump on a bus and leave. Are they the couple the stories in this series are going to be about? Was this just to show us what Amanda is leaving behind when she starts her new life in New York? Is it going to be about Alex and Jesse? Are we going to be seeing Alex and Jesse staying with the FBI and moving on with their lives? The story didn't feel like it ended.

I just needed more.

The storyline for Karma was interesting. We get to learn about what Amanda can do with her witchcraft and special abilities. Karma does touch on some sensitive subjects. We don’t actually have to see the deeds done, but it is clear what is happening and has happened previously to them. There are descriptions of some of the violence that happens, but I never felt uncomfortable reading it. Alex and Amanda kiss once or twice but it wasn’t overly sexual.

In the end, I really enjoyed the storyline with Amanda facing the baddies and using her witchy/voodoo magic to save the day. I wished the story of Amanda and Alex was fleshed out a little more and maybe a sneak peek into Alex’s thinking would have helped me understand his thoughts and motivations.

I don’t know what’s up next…or…who’s up next, but the author definitely has a knack for drawing me into this witchy world. I'm very interested to see what's coming up next for this new author (to me).

Gotta love a woman who knows exactly who and what she is. Amanda is a witch, she is also snarky, headstrong, bull-headed and infuriating. To hear her talk, those are her good points, and she wears each description like a badge of honor, and oh yes, do NOT make her mad, you could see her bad side.

Alex, on the other hand, is almost a saint by comparison, or maybe a loyal and trustworthy pet. He also happens to be a Hunter for the FBI in the Paranormal Division, which makes him Amanda’s enemy of sorts, if you consider going from her lover to trying to kill her upon discovering she was a witch, a flaw.

Can you imagine how difficult it would be for him to come to Amanda and ask for her help and trust me he needs it badly. His brother is in big trouble, HUGE trouble and only a witch with Amanda’s powers can help him, plus deep down, beneath his rather arse-like attitude, he knows the real Amanda and still cares for her, which I completely understand.

Little do these two know what they will be up against and how dangerous their mission will be. If they don’t kill each other first, this quest could prove deadly, very deadly. Meanwhile Amanda is being haunted and it is giving her nightmares...can you say, "The plot thickens?"

Karma by Nadine Nightingale is their story as they battle their thoughts of the past, their hidden emotions and will do anything to needle the other to distraction. When push comes to shove, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Nadine Nightingale has nailed this one dead on with pure entertainment, action and attitude throughout! Amanda is a priceless gem in the strong heroine department and Alex pretty much walks away with the jerk award and yet, their juvenile behavior is the perfect comic relief to the serious quest they are. Ms. Nightingale is an author to watch with her ability to lay it out there, create characters that you want to put in time out and then still have enough creative juice to build a plot that is riveting! Definitely one for the hidden gem pile, just be careful of the razor sharp edges on this one!

I received this copy from Nadine Nightingale in exchange for my honest review.

5 Stab-Worthy Stars!!!

What a FUN read! I was so excited to read Karma because it's PNR….which is my favorite genre! I haven't gotten to read any in a while! Karma, is the first book in the Drag Me to Hell series and I can honestly say, I cannot wait for the next book! I enjoyed every second of this book!

Amanda Bishop is a snarky, hot, blonde, bombshell of a witch. With a snarky attitude and sense of humor, I couldn't get enough of her! She lives life on the edge, never backing down….looking danger straight in the face and never backing down. She hides behind the façade, that she cares only for herself…..that she's selfish. In truth, she doesn't like to be viewed as weak or caring--especially by Alex. Amanda has the special gift of being able to read aura's and the unique gift of visions. She makes a quick buck doing readings. Some people want the truth, others just want to be blissfully unaware and lied to.

"I might tell lies for a living, but I tend o see the truth when no one else does."

Alex is a unbelievably, hot….I swear he's a God…..hunter. He works for the FBI's paranormal. He's also Amanda's ex-boyfriend. When circumstances that occur cause him to go looking for Amanda in hopes of her helping him, it's not the most pleasant meeting.

"Take off the bitchy armor and the cocky attitude, and tell me what's left, Manda?"
I trace his jaw with my index finger. "Firm boobs, nice ass, and an IQ higher than your Mustang's mileage."

They both claim to hate each other. It's obvious that neither does….that they actually still care for one another. It's in the little things they do in the midst of their constant teasing and arguing.

"No way. You won't run again."
"Again?" I snap. "When did I ever run from you, Alex?"
He pushes his fingers through my belt loop and pulls me closer. "You were running the second I laid eyes on you."

"For a guy who claims he can shoot me in an instant, he wears a pretty depressing gray aura at the prospect of my final exit."

It's a constant back and forth between Alex and Manda. There's so much sexual tension built up between them it feels like they're going to explode! When they finally seem to be getting somewhere, even if it's closure, something……ALWAYS…..happens to stop it. No doubt making them both even further sexually frustrated! Ha! I wanted to yell at the book and curse the "Karma" of those two!

Karma was unlike any other PNR book I have read before. It is part of a series, but it doesn't leave you in a WTF cliffhanger, which I love! This book is unique in it's own right. Nightingale did a fabulous job of delivering a well written, and well thought out story! I immensely enjoyed diving in to Amanda and Alex's story……I didn't want it to end. Karma is a fun, exciting, and phenomenal story that I can't get enough of! I definitely can't wait until the next installment.

It's fun, hilariously fabulous yet taste of what you desire in a unusual read ~ Nook Books and More Blog

Just when you think Nadine's writing couldn't get any better, she throws you another! It's HOT!

Amanda is a hilarious witch, with lots of spunk and a serious amount of courage. Sometimes I think she's downright crazy. She's tough as nails considering what she endures.

Then there is Alex. He's a jerk and arrogant but maybe it's because he's a desperate man on a mission. Only time will tell. They are both bitter and have been through tough times so no wonder. Now there's attraction and chemistry that I hope they get passed because once it does, POW what a romance! But what would this mean for Amanda and her status as a hunter? This is so the reason- I will be diving to get my hands on book two!!

The writing is absolutely fabulous and the words effortlessly flowed off the page with ease and understanding. The book gives you a little bit of everything and keeps you interested- paranormal, suspense, mystery, action, romance. I love that combination, it gives you the bite you are longing for! It was smooth and well written and kept you intrigued throughout the story. Thank you Nadine!

MORE? MORE! @ P.S. I love that book!

I received a copy of the body from the author in exchange for an honest review.
That being said, I love witches so whoop whoop I was excited, plus the author was really nice and understanding!

THE WORLD: So the world in this book is pretty much how we know it. Just add to that witches and witch hunters. Oh and demons and crazy priests and all the voodoo stuff. Yeah, I think it covers it all. I can easily say it is a definitely urban fantasy type of world we all love.

CHARACTERS: Our main character is called Amanda (thank you author for not using any crazy complicated names, simple common names are my absolute favorite). Our Amanda is a witch but I must say she is also many other things. Basically Amanda is a descendant of a famous and glorious witch line and well as it was put in the book 'a rotten apple'. She is basically on her own working as a future teller and well all the little jobs witches do. Additionally, she is described as very attractive and definitely has a long tongue. Frankly, that is the main thing I did not like about her and book in general, the language is very very harsh. There was just too much swearing and rude nicknames for my taste. But let's just go back to characters. Yes, next to Amanda we have Alex who is a witch hunter. It of course complicates things because well Amanda is a witch and Alex hunts witches. But they end up working together to find and save Alex's brother from crazy priest.

LOVE: Okay so the interesting thing was that the love happened already in the past and we are now in post-event state. Basically once upon a time Amanda and Alex were sorta in a relationship but then Alex found out she is a witch and well...you get the idea.

PLUS: The story line was very interesting, if you put all swearing aside it was strong and actually rather shocking. I would even say trigger warning very much. I expected this book to be about witches but it is actually a detective in a way where a witch and a witch hunter teams up to solve the mystery. And the mystery end up being very realistic. I was not sure how I felt about it actually, I did not expected it so again for those who want to read this book be aware of trigger warnings!

MINUS: As I already mentioned for me the huge problem was the swearing and rude nicknames. I get that it sets the character but it was just way too much, there was no need to repeat it again and again and again. Sadly, for me it was too big of a minus to give this book more than 3 stars even tho the story line itself was worth definitely more.

OVERALL: So all in all I liked it and I would recommend it for sure but once again be aware of trigger warnings, harsh language and well...at least I was a little bit mislead by the blurb. But now you know :)

MORE? MORE! @ P.S. I love that book!

Karma by Nadine Nightingale 5 Stars

Loved it, Awesome!! Very intense and mind blowing. Such heartache and tragic at times, but wow it is such a powerful story. You can feel Amanda's pain so deep at times yet her 'bite me' attitude is great. And Alexander Remington can be such a jerk!!!! lol.

I was actually listening to the 4th of July show in Boston on TV and the song Purple Rain was being sung and it gave me chills. Why? Because it seemed such an appropriate song for sections of the book. I was on page 156 when it came on, and the rest of the following songs on the show just fit to a tee.
Anyway, this is a great story of 2 people that both are hurting but are too dam stubborn to notice their pain is same. They both love one another. Argh.

Oh did I say that she's a witch and he's a hunter? Interesting match up, lol. but when Jessie, Alex's brother goes missing, they embark on a magical journey to the dark side to save him.

I received a paperback of this book a while back. I won it at a release party for an author. I am upset that I had put it off so long after reading it. Now I just need to get the 2nd book. Thank you Nadine Nightingale for giving me the opportunity to read and review your book. Alway glad when I can come across a new author.

Great PNR Read. Mature audiences suggested.

I was in the mood for a Paranormal/Urban Fantasy book and when the author offered me a copy I accepted. This book showed me why I love the beautiful and magical urban fantasy world. Anything can happen and that makes the story so unpredictable.

Karma is about Amanda who is a witch, and her ex boyfriend Alex who is a hunter and needs her help. It was pretty obvious that Amanda and Alex didn't part ways peacefully. But he needs and she is the only one he knows that can help him. I loved both characters. They were still attracted to each other but a hunter and witch just doesn't go together, it's taboo! What I really enjoyed and made this book more of an Urban Fantasy than a paranormal romance novel, was that romance didn't play such a big part in this book. It was more on the background and just what I was looking for in this book. The author did a great job with combining action, magic, romance and mystery. I was super intrigued and really focused. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. I have no idea what to expect because this book had an open ending, however I do want to see more of these characters.

Amanda Bishop was about to start a new life as a NYU student when her past forced her into another direction – at gunpoint.

Alex Remington is a hunter and Amanda’s former lover until he found out she was a witch. He didn’t take the news well, but when his brother disappeared it was Amanda he turned to for help.

KARMA is a perfectly paced paranormal mystery. Written in first person, we follow Amanda as she and Alex follow leads, pedophiles and the occasional dead body, to find Alex’s brother.

Nightingale seasons this complex plot with masterfully written flashbacks that bring just the right amount of information to the reader. This is no small feat. There is real skill in knowing just how much info to deliver this way without hijacking the plot and sending the reader off into the wilderness.

The story ends with a touch of foreboding, leaving us a hint of what may come in the next installment in this must read series.

This is a debut novel for Ms. Nightingale who professes to a serious Marvel superhero addition and considers the world her home. Nadine Nightingale is definitely an author to follow.

Karma by Nadine Nightingale
“Paranormal with a twist, 4.5 stars*

Karma by Nadine Nightingale is a paranormal romance. I instantly thought of the CW show Supernatural while I was reading this story. I am a huge Supernatural fan so I loved the book. Karma is about ex lovers getting together to save the heros brother whos gone missing.
Alex and Jesse are partners and are in constant contact. When Jesse goes MIA Alex knows there is only one person who can help him find his brother. Only issue is hes a hunter and Amanda is a witch. Working with witches goes against everthing Alex believes in. Toss in the fact that they have a romantic history and she lied to him about who she was, you have a disaster in the making.
Amanda cannot say no to Alex. She doesn’t want to help the man who broke her heart but her loyalty lies with Jesse. He saved her once so its her turn to repay the favor. Amanda just wants to start her normal life but can’t until this case is solved. Will Amanda be able to keep her secrets from Alex? Will his lack of faith in her put the two on opposite teams? Lastly will she be able to keep her feeling for Alex hidden from prying eyes?
I seriously loved this story. You have two brothers that work together to keep the paranormal at bay and a witch who will go against everything she believes in to help them. There wasn’t any romance in the story, unless you count the somtimes sexual tension between Alex and Amanda. I liked how the story was solid enough on its own without it. You want Alex and Amanda to get together, but you know it can’t happen yet.
Karma is probably my favorite paranormal book that I have reviewed in a very long time. It's one that I could go back and reread over and over. I cannot wait for the second book. I want to know what secrets the two are hiding and if Jesse is okay. Congratulations Nadie, you more then surprised me with this story and I look forward to the ones to follow.
Plot- 4.5/
Character- 4.5/5
Heat- 3/5
Writing style- 4.5/5

The way it should be:
Alex and Amanda in a tree,
K-I-S-S-I-N-G.
The way it is:
“Are you going to kill me, Alex?” I said with a charming grin.
“You're a witch. A freaking witch.” ...”I got it; he was angry, stressed and unforgiving. … But what about me? He never told me he was a hunter. Never mentioned his job was to kill my kind.”
“Karma”, first in the 'Drag Me To Hell' series has a lot of similar moments as Alex and Amanda bicker their way through the plot. She's snarky, he's judgmental, and the pair of them never seem to actually listen to each other. On those rare occasions when you figure there might be a mutual breakthrough, something happens to prevent it, or one of them draws away.
There is some exploration of their previous intimate relationship and lots of hints that suggest, even as Amanda drives away to a new life, that it is not over between them.
The story has lots of witchcraft, voodoo, auras all over the place, mysterious visions, ghostly children who have suffered terribly at the hands of Baron Samedi and his evil minions, and even a zombie! What more could you ask for?
It was good fun and I liked Amanda even if she does seem to be hellbent on annoying just about everyone she meets. Alex, on the other hand, seems quite flat, his character needed some depth that just never materialised.

Quick and funny read

I found this book by pure accident when scrolling through Facebook. A pic of Buffy and Captain America? I needed to hear more. I read the synopsis and it sounded good. I'm always a little iffy about debut authors work because it takes time to master that skill. This book was really good. I enjoyed almost every bit of it. Amanda or Manda is a very unlikeable character. She is just a bitch the entire book, but she's funny. Between her and Alex we are left with some very dislikable people. But the story was well written and kept me intrigued the entire time. Especially since no real answers about what the hell is going on were answered. I read the entire book in a couple of hours and now I'm ready to move on to book 2.

Why did I wait so long to read this book?! I seriously am questioning my decision making haha. This is my first book by Nadine Nightingale and she is one hell of an author!

Her words melt into your head and paint the perfect scene.  Alex and "Manda" are both headstrong and constantly at each others throats.  I can feel the unrequited feelings looming in the distance.  I was pulled into this dark paranormal story and lost myself in it.

I feel like it can be read as a standalone but I am chewing my nails ready to finish this review and start book 2.  I am literally so in love with her writing.  What a breath of fresh air finding and author that amazes you.  5 stars from Reviews by Reds!

I was recommend this book and boy I'm glad it was. I really liked this story of a witch, who ends up helping a Hunter find his brother. Amanda Bishop is a witch. And ends up hooking up with Alex who is a hunter. Well when Alex finds out what Amanda is it breaks him a little and he wants nothing to do with her. Time goes by and Amanda makes a living reading tarots cards. until one day Alex comes back his brother Jesse has gone missing and Amanda could be the key to finding him. I'm on to read book 2 now. SO good.

You have to read this!!!

If you pair a hero, with white knight complex, and heroine, who refuses to be the damsel in distress, what do you get? A gripping action-mystery, with loads of magic, sarcasm and sass! And believe me, you'll love every second of it!

This is the kind of story where you will get nothing done until you get to the bottom of the mystery! One where you'll be so proud for girl power! And one that'll keep you wanting more after you finished reading this.

I honestly can't wait for more of Amanda and Alex!!!

Amanda (Mandy) is one hell of a woman. Mostly I wanted to slap Alex because he's such an a$#hole. I really enjoyed this book. It was different, it's like Supernatural meets Charmed. I loved the sexual tension between Amanda and Alex although I hoped they resolve their differences. If you want to feel a wide range of emotions, give this book a try because it sure would make you love and frustrated you all at once.

3.5 "No risk, no fun" stars

Karma by Nadine Nightingale is the first book in her new PN/UF Drag.Me.To.Hell series. It has a good mix of light and heavy elements and an interesting plot that sucks you in right from the beginning.

Amanda Bishop is fortune teller trying to make enough money to leave her old life behind. She does what she must for things to go her way even if it is not alway seen as good. Amanda is also a witch and when she helps one of her clients, things are set in motion and someone from her past comes back into the picture.

Alex Remington hasn't seen Amanda in 18 months. They have a rocky and painful past and are on just about the worst terms possible - Alex wants her dead. Working for the Paranormal Analysis Unit of the FBI as a hunter of all things evil, things didn't go well when he found out Amanda, his then girlfriend, was a witch.

I knew why my alarm bells had gone off. Captain Righteous was no superhero. He was a freaking hunter, and I was his favorite kind of prey.

Believing all paranormal beings are evil, he would have killed her if it wasn't for his brother, Jesse, who talked him out of pulling the trigger. Now Alex has come to Amanda to ask for her help with finding Jesse, and though Amanda wants nothing to do with Alex, she cares for Jesse so she can't say no. She has one condition - she doesn't want to see Alex again after they find Jesse.

As they start the trek to California, it is clear that neither want to be around the other. They both feel betrayed and are still very angry with each other. There is hostility and bickering and it is clear that they have unresolved issues. Though they both say they hate each other, it is very much apparent that they feel for each other more than they would like and the sexual tension is present in every interaction.

Amanda starts having weird nightmarish dreams that she just can't shake and she fears they are linked to Jesse's disappearance. While trying to get to the bottom of what is going on, they are soon thrown deeper into the world of witchcraft. Can Alex and Amanda solve the mystery behind Jesse's disappearance? Will they come to terms with what they mean to each other or will they part ways like they planned from the start?

The heart is stubborn and reckless. Always wants what it can’t have, and never considers consequences.

Karma is full of mystery, witchcraft, and suspense. There is not much romance but the sexual tension invades each page. There were some sweet moments but not a lot of steam, and I wanted more of a romance. I assume there will be more in the books that come...at least I am hoping there is because I want a resolution between Alex and Amanda and I want to see if they can make things work between them.

Amanda and Alex are completely different and I liked them both for the most part. I love that Amanda knows who she and isn't ashamed of what she does. She speaks her mind and goes after what she wants. I loved that she was determined to leave her old life behind and start new. I understand why she tries to deny her feelings for Alex but I wish they opened up to each other more.

Alex is selfless, and on the side of good but you can tell he is conflicted about his feelings for Amanda. I liked him less than Amanda because he was an asshole for a large part of the book even when he was the one asking for help. I am actually surprised Amanda put up with all his crap. I know he was blindsided when he found out that Amanda was a witch, but I wanted to see more of his feelings for her that are clearly there. His mixed signals that were giving me whiplash.

For a guy who claims he can shoot me in an instant, he wears a pretty depressing gray aura at the prospect of my final exit.

Amanda and Alex are keeping some big secrets from each other, and even though they are not revealed in this book, I am confident with my theories about what each of them is hiding. I can't wait to see if I am correct! Hopefully I won't have to wait too long for the next book to come out because I need to know what happens after the way it ended.

Overall, I enjoyed Karma and think it's a great start to a new Paranormal/Urban Fantasy series. I look forward to seeing what comes next!

*disclaimer- I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Karma is the debut novel of author Nadine Nightingale. Protagonist Amanda Bishop is a bad-tempered witch leading a shiftless existence, just trying to make enough money to scrape by before she finally gets to start her life over by enrolling in college in the fall.

Happily, the novel avoided the dreaded first book Info Dump- you know, the one where the author inundates you with detail about their world that reads more like a checklist. I think Nightingale did a good job of dropping hints about her world while building her narrative: we know witches aren’t considered human in this world, our protagonist is on the outs with her family, there are different branches of magic etc. Sometimes I think the author played her cards a bit too close to the chest. I would have liked to know more about the different types of magic in the universe, and how Amanda’s powers work.

Fair warning about Amanda herself- she is unapologetically unlikeable. And while that sounds like a bad thing at first, I think it’s important to have women represented as people in books- not all of us or nice, or having some secret nurturing side. Admittedly there was some slut-shaming I found slightly hypocritical coming from Amanda. She has no problem using her looks to manipulate people, and seems to appreciate casual sex. But when another woman does it, Amanda is quick to label her as a bimbo. However, I appreciated the novelty of a female protagonist who isn’t necessarily a heroine and isn’t magically good at everything. Amanda has the good sense to back out of fights she isn’t trained for and stick to her magic. That being said, Amanda also isn’t a coward or a bad person. Dragged into the story’s mystery unwillingly, once Amanda realizes children are being hurt she’s ready to take risks with her personal safety to help the kids.

There are mentions of childhood sexual abuse in the book. Importantly, there are no creepy voyeuristic flashbacks to the acts themselves. The focus stays where it should: on the harm done to the children, the evil of the perpetrators, and how those who covered up the abuse are just as guilty.

This brings us to the person who drags Amanda into the mess in the first place: Alex Remington, a government-sanctioned hunter of the supernatural looking for his missing brother. I’m going to be honest- I don’t particularly like Alex. It’s clear that he’s physically attractive and capable, but I didn’t appreciate how he was so quick to threaten Amanda and treat her with callous disregard for being a witch. Alex seems to feel a lasting betrayal over finding out Amanda was a witch after they had gotten romantically involved. He then has the nerve to come barging back into her life after threatening to kill her. Amanda goes because she’s worried about Jessie, the missing brother. We don’t meet him until the end of the novel, but he seems to have all the charm his brother lacks.

The writing of the story itself is pleasantly descriptive; it was easy to lose myself in mental images of the places being described. Though not particularly long, the story does a good job of building tension and keeping you invested in the fate of the characters. I appreciated how the author tied the mystery of the missing brother to an old crime in the town they visited. At times, I felt the sexual tension between Alex and Amanda was slightly overdone. Amanda could certainly do better!

All in all, I found the plot of the book compelling enough to keep reading and am interested to learn more about the universe the story is set in. This was an excellent storyline for a debut novel and I could see myself picking up the next book in the series.

This book was awesome! It's a fast paced dialogue driven story about a witch and the hunter who has come to her for help with finding his missing brother. I was a little confused by the flashes at the beginning. It was unexpected. The witch, Amanda Bishop, can "see" certain things. But, after a while, those flashes flowed seamlessly into the story, adding depth and mystery. The hunter, Alex Remington, is gruff and bossy for most of the story, but he's been hurt by Amanda in the past. Amanda, also, tries to keep a wall between their attraction and emotions, by being the most smart-ass, sarcastic and sassy woman as possible. She's been hurt, too. Both of these characters have a lot of emotional baggage and neither one is dealing with it, but they come together to help find Jesse, Alex's younger brother and partner.

The character development was woven into the complex plot with snarky dialogue revealing hidden pasts and secrets. The witty and insulting banter between the main characters was entertaining. There is harsh language used, but it seems appropriate for the characters.

One thing that bothers me…the ending! Just left me wanting to turn the page for the next chapter, but that was it! No more pages. I'm guessing that Book 2 will continue Amanda and Alex's story. I hope so, anyway! There's so much still left unresolved! Being the romantic that I am, I really wanted to see them back together. I hope that happens! And I can't wait until they discuss the rest of those issues that were hinted at throughout the book. I have a feeling in the next book someone's soul needs saving! Oh, my!

This book is listed as a romance, but for me, to be classified as a romance, there must be some sort of relationship resolution at the end. This book ends without that. Very dissatisfying for a romance reader. Personally, I'd shelve this book in the urban fantasy genre. If I'd known that, I wouldn't have been so irritated by the ending since I wouldn't have expected the happily-ever-after I was waiting for.

*Warning*

There are some violent situations here that some sensitive readers might not handle well. Some very bad things happen to children which left me cringing in horror even as I read. Of course, by the end, the bad guys are punished, but it was still difficult to read those abusive scenes. Some readers might need a warning about this kind of content.

*Spoilers*

I really enjoyed this book! So much that I re-read it immediately after finishing it. And I'll probably re-read it again when Book 2 is released. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy supernatural and paranormal fiction! This is a keeper and I truly can't wait for the next one!

This book really took me by surprise. The characters were all extremely developed, the story line was twisty and curvy with surprises thrown at you left and right, and it's a paranormal/urban fantasy that feels so realistic you almost forget there's a witch casting spells everywhere. There's a hint of romance, but it's not a romance story. It's a kickass story told in a kickass way. I suspect that future books in this series will be more romancy though.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and fell in love with Manda. I could relate to just about everything about her. Her snarky, I'm-not-putting-up-with-your-shit witty retorts and random comments. The girl has been through the ringer, especially by the love of her life that holds her "hostage" to help him find his brother. Yeah, right. She just let's Jerk-face (aka Alex) think he does. Manda can't be forced to do anything she doesn't want to do. And as much as she doesn't want to be around Alex, she does. She still loves him, and how could she not with the huge secret she's hiding from him. Yes, it's pretty obvious what that secret is, especially toward the end. But Alex has his own, and I'm pretty sure I've figured out what that secret is as well. But they torture one another as they search for Jesse (Alex's brother) and discover a slew of missing children as well. The amount of info described is just disturbing enough to almost make me put this book down. It's not sunshine and rainbows. This story is a gray on the dark meter for me. The way it's told, the emotional shit Manda endures, the other characters and what happens to them, and the dark way the author chooses to tell it all. It's beautifully written, but it could deff trigger some people if you are sensitive to children being mistreated, so beware.

The choices they make definitely set up the rest of this series leaving questions unanswered and wondering what will come next for all of them. The story was awesome, I just didn't like how all these secrets were trailed to the end of the book hiding the truth from the reader even at the end. So in some messed up way, we are left with a cliffhanger of sorts that has nothing to do with the story at hand and more to do with what will come between Manda and Alex, even though we as the reader could've been told and the characters still not know. I enjoyed this book enough to want to read the next one, I didn't need that little bit to hook me for book two. The author's skill level was enough to do that for me.

Amanda Bishop is a witch. The card-carrying, tarot-dealing, aura-reading sort. She's ready to put all of it aside to settle into her new life as a college student, until Alex Remington, Amanda's former flame, and, ironically, a witch hunter, makes her an offer that she can't refuse.

I like to mix things up when I'm reading, so some paranormal romance sounded like just the thing. KARMA by Nadine Nightingale definitely fills the bill, full as it is of witches and hunters and voodoo, oh, my...Seriously, though, I had to like Amanda. She's no one's patsy, and is not afraid to kick butt and take names. When Alex comes striding back into her life and demands her aid in finding his brother, Jesse, Amanda's plans to settle into her new life at NYU are put on hold.

Nadine's incorporation of witchcraft, voodoo, and some heavy subject matter worthy of an episode of Criminal Intent, all with a side of snark, sass, and some steamy moments, makes for an interesting read. I did get a little, erm, frustrated with the back and forth between Amanda and Alex, who obviously still have some unfinished business, as well as some secrets that they're holding close to their vests, but, all in all, KARMA is an interesting take on the PNR genre, paired with romantic suspense. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series, so that I can find out more about what each of the characters is hiding (yep, brother Jesse, too), and whether Amanda and Alex can work past their differences and give in to the feelings that they still have for each other. 4 stars for this one. If the grittier side of PNR is your cup of tea, you'll want to check it out.

This is a fantastic way to start off a new series! I loved this book! And before I say anything else- I'm super duper pumped about there being more in this series to come!! Now, with that said, I couldn't put this book down and I'm disappointed in myself that I hadn't read or hear of this author before- bad dog!! Not anymore! Lol and also because this is her debut novel and she freakin came out the shoots with a bang!! A big loud one!

So Amand is a hilarious witch, with lots of 'tide, and a serious amount of courage. Or maybe she's just crazy! She's got ball of steel, no she's not a dude but seriously, I think most guys would cry where she laughs. Until Alex shows up for help. Alex and Amanda have a past, and let's call a spade a spade and say it was a beautiful disaster lol. And they are both bitter and have some hard feelings. But Alex is desperate to find his missing brother, and no one is happy to work along side the other. Now there's attraction and chemistry but there's so much hurt and anger and blah that they can't seem to get over that. Oh and wait- so Alex is a witch hunter- to Amanda's witch status. See what I mean in beautiful disaster! And though it isn't shown light in this book- Alex has a bomb to drop on Amanda. For this reason- I will be diving to get my hands on book two!!

The writing is absolutely awesome and the plot is well done as well as great pacing throughout the whole book. With a little bit of everything to keep you interested- paranormal, suspense, mystery, action, romance... It's all there I and just kept flipping the pages! I'm so ready for more and a big kudos to the author since I'm usually a bigger fan of books 2 & up in a series, but I'm a huge fan after just one! 5 WOLFY PAWS!!

Alex is a witch hunter and Amanda is a witch, in theory they should be enemies but sometimes life just doesn't work that way. Sometimes something deeper can bring people together. When Alex thinks that Amanda has committed murder he offers her a deal to help him find his missing brother and he'll let her go free. After a short with fling with Alex in the past. Amanda knew she should really steer clear of Alex but she felt she owed it to Jesse his brother after Jesse saved her life. So she reluctantly goes along to help. But after sensing a dead little girl, Amanda knows there is more to Jesse's disappearance than meets the eye. There are dark evil powers in force. With Voodoo curses, Spiriting Summoning, Death Summoning, dark witchcraft and several girls and Jesse's life in danger she knows she has to help but as her feelings for Alex reappear has she bitten off more than she can chew. This book is really well written by a very talented author. The storyline is amazing with a real modern take on witchcraft. It is Full of Surprises and twist and turns which keep you entertained all the way through. Plus there is a great cliff hanger at the end. You won't be able to put it down once you've started reading which is what a great book is all about. The characters are so endearing. I love the way the characters are both fighting their own feelings towards each other as well as trying to help each other fight their demons. This is a great Paranormal Fantasy story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would definitely read more from this series. Plus we still need to find out Alex's secret!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book hooked me from the start, with its hints, mystery, and ability to dive right into the story. There are witches, zombies, and some really evil men that round out what I would call an urban fantasy.

Amanda is a witch who has been surviving by reading cards for people. There’s some mystery around whether or not she’s evil enough to get rid of the bad guys herself, but overall she seems like a morally flexible good guy. She is actually working on turning her life into something less nomadic when her ex-boyfriend Alex shows up. He’s your typical dreamy good guy with and edge. Oh, and he also happens to have a job that gets him to hunt down witches. Obviously, when these two started “dating” they were both hiding things from one another, which probably caused an epic breakup, but we join them well after the fact.

The visions that Amanda gets are a way for us to catch up with the history between these two as well as hunt down the real bad guy(s) here. The main story (other than the scorching chemistry between Amanda and Alex) is that Alex’s brother has gone MIA after trying to hunt down a powerful voodoo practitioner to (for some reason) bargain with him. Things get a little twisty-turny after that, with some clients from Amanda’s past and lots and lots of secrets being kept. I am 99% sure I figured everything bout about halfway through the book, but even by the end you don’t get a true confirmation of your predictions. For a starting book, this one sure has me hooked and dying for book 2. How long do I have to wait??

Karma is one seriously awesome book.
It is definitely one of my favourite paranormal reads of 2016 so far.

This is a very impressive debut novel and I was hooked from the very beginning. I loved everything about this book!

The story begins with Amanda, a witch, being asked for help by her ex Alex, a hunter, to find his missing brother. Amanda and Alex are natural born enemies, and their union seemed doomed from the very beginning. The tension the author manages to create between them is simply perfect and the banter between these two is laugh-out-loud funny.

Amanda (a seriously kick-ass, unapologetically bitchy and awesome heroine), is simply trying to move on with her life, but agrees to help Alex in his search and this is where the story truly becomes a real page-turner. I simply could not put it down.

I experienced a whole range of emotions when reading this book; amusement, sadness, disgust, anger, joy… you name it, and I probably experienced it.

All the boxes I look for in a great read were ticked; an engaging story line; fantastic, witty and funny dialogue; complex characters that compliment and challenge each other; sexual chemistry between the two leads that sizzles and a plot the flows seamlessly.

After this one book I am completely hooked on the author’s writing and storytelling ability! Nadine Nightingale has a real talent for bringing the words on a page to life and I want more please!

Amanda is a fortune teller- clairvoyant. She hates run down hotel rooms but it adds to the mystery which is part of her business. This is the third stop in two weeks. Amanda is a witch and five hundred dollars away from leaving her old life behind her. Then a woman comes in with a little girl that has a broken soul from her father taking her innocence and to visit her regularly to sexually abuse her. The mother begs Amanda to kill him. Amanda is angry and tells the woman to leave but then calls her back because of the little girl. Then the man dies with no sign of a crime. Amanda stopped in a nasty bar to have a drink while waiting for a bus to go to NYC then a guy walks in Amanda was once involved in until he found out she was a witch and she found out he was a witch hunter. He went to Amanda as he needed help as he believes Jesse- his brother is in trouble. Jesse works for the Paranormal Analysis Unit of the FBI as does Alec. Jesse went on a case by himself and Alec hasn’t heard from Jesse in several days. Alec forces Amanda to help him.
This was a great story. It had a little of everything: action, magic, romance, mystery, voodoo priest, dead body, witch, witch hunter, missing FBI agent, sexual tension, suspense and alot more. But there were unsolved questions at the end of the story. I didn’t like how Amanda just got on the bus and left at the end. But besides that i loved the story. I loved the twists and turns in this story. I recommend.
I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.
