Obsession: Dishonor Thy Wife

Rate this book
A husband switches into a Jekyll-Hyde after attending a medical convention and sets off a chain of events that will make a marriage go nuclear.

Six years ago Dr. Brad O’Boyle got drunk, picked up an underage girl, and got her pregnant. Her grandfather blackmailed him into marrying Ronni or else go to prison for statutory rape. For six years, Ronni and Brad have been enemies in a sexless, hellish marriage with Brad’s married mistress in between. Then Brad leaves for a week to attend a Philly medical convention. He returns home to Austin a changed man. Gone are his violent outbursts and his disdain for their daughter. He is an attentive father and doting husband sickeningly obsessed with his wife. Brad spies through the keyhole of her bedroom door.

Ronni is breathless at his attraction and kindness. She begins to perform for him, even while wondering what happened in Philly to transform Brad into a loving husband. Even his mistress seems to have vanished.

Ronni believes Brad was shot through the heart with a wife-obsession drug at the medical convention until Brad starts acting like a Jekyll-Hyde. Charming Brad leaves the house and horrible Brad returns or vice-versa.

Ronni has no idea who to trust, certainly not the medical community where Brad is well known.

Dishonor Thy Wife is a mind-blowing, page-turning, Domestic Suspense Thriller along the lines of The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl but totally unique.

”A devil does not suddenly change into an angel.”

Every pick up a book that starts out so intriguing and confusing that you’re excited and mention to friends that you found something different and interesting?

description

Only then does the reveal happen and the confusion is cleared and it starts to get kind of bad and ridiculous?

description

Though in a Pulp Fiction way it stays funny throughout and then yet it wasn’t that bad at times?

description

My curiosity of how the author will wrap up the story after the reveal was made had me pushing forward at times and it did drag after the reveal. I did like the heroine and her daughter a lot and even the hero believe it or not. I must mention the authors “How to Be a Good Husband for Dummies” book which was funny. So overall, this story has a lot of dark humor, abuse, murder and a twist enough for me to finish. It had four star moments and it had intriguing moments then after a while I was forcing myself to finish and sadly unable to recommend to friends and kind of glad it was over and on other hand it was pretty well done I think?

WOW was this was one awesome read...

description

This actually took me a bit to get into. I'm not usually crazy about first person narrative. It always seems to take me longer to connect with the characters, but about 15% into reading it really hit it's stride and I COULD NOT put this sucker down! It's told in a dual POV (Wife/Husband) until about 32% when a third POV is added in.

description

This was a ride for sure. I had an inkling to what was going on early in the book, but the twists and turns kept me turning the pages. I didn't find any of the characters particularly likable, but that was OK because they were interesting and well developed and I don't always have to "like" my main characters to enjoy a book. The plot itself was well written and flowed nicely. I never felt the need to skim. The only SMALL issue I had, was after the main "storyline" was wrapped up I felt that the remainder of the book dragged on a tiny bit too long. I was happy to see a but thought they could have reached that point a tiny bit sooner.

description

That being said, that was just a tiny complaint and overall I LOVED most everything about this one. I look forward to reading more from this author.

*** 3 "My Head Hurts" Stars ***

Starting this book had me so excited. The cover is hot, the title is hot, this could only mean one thing...this book would be off the charts hot with so many possibilities. Well......

 photo dizzy_zpspwm6drcl.gif

My brain was seriously hurting since every lobe inside was fighting to figure out if I was loving or hating this. The writing of this book is good but then again I am not sure it was good. Let's say it was different.

See what I mean....TOTALLY CONFUSED....still.

 photo ronni_zps53dkkvib.jpg

Ronni's life has never been great! Her childhood with a stripper mother and a bar life every day of her young life. Life is what it is and meeting Brad O'Boyle should have changed things....for the better...only it didn't. Her life was tossed into a world of a loveless hell.

 photo brad_zpsxzyx4zdg.jpg

Brad is a sexy doctor with everything going for himself, looks, money, beautiful wife, adorable daughter. Only Brad's life is NOT what he wants and he makes sure Ronni knows this every day of her life with him.

Brad's life is his and his only. With a sexy, nymph on the side to fulfill his needs, Brad goes about life like he is God. Then he meets his ghost, Jayden Tremblay and a plan is created. A plan that will set forth a chain of horrible effects that leaves a trail of sex, drugs, lies and murder.

" Revenge is better than love."

Ronni's life becomes undone even more than it was before and Brad unleashes his cruel intentions on Ronni. Jayden has know idea that his brotherly love is about send Jayden's well planned life into a tailspin of hell and evilness.

**I wish I loved this book and I am sure many of you will.**

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was one thrilling ride, let me tell you! This is the kind of book that once you start, you will not want to stop until you are done. It is dark and twisty and has several moments of "whaaaaaaaaat????"

The cover is very misleading and in my opinion, doesn't do this book justice at all. Typically, with this cover, I would pass this book up. To me, this cover seems very "erotic romance", and although there are some sex scenes (nothing crazy), this book is all psychological thriller.

In the beginning, the writing is erratic and confusing, but it is done with purpose and about 30% into the book, everything starts to fall into place. And then it just takes off. I don't want to give anything away and honestly, the less you know, the better off you are.

The reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is because I felt the ending kind of lagged on a bit. It felt like there was a good place for a natural ending and then possibly wrapping up in an epilogue, but instead there were several more chapters and I just skimmed to get to the end.

But all in all, I would highly recommend this book.

Belinda Austin I tend to place books in a setting of the place I am living at the time of the writing, or a place I visit frequently. I was living in Austin and wrote an early draft of this book. I was working full time as a software consultant and writing fiction in my spare time because of my love of books. I finally decided to publish the book and did a major work over, along with a couple more drafts until I was satisfied with the final.

I must say, I had fun writing the book. Crazy characters are my specialty. I laughed at some of the twisted humor. I do love writing in this genre.

Because the Romantic Suspense Erotic Psychological Thriller is a new genre for me, I decided to write under a pen name rather than the name that I have been publishing historical fiction and fantasy. I chose Austin because my mother's maiden name was Austin and I wanted to honor her.

I thank you so much for taking enough interest in Dishonor Thy Wife that you would bother to read the ramblings of this, the author's review.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

A pair of twins, separated at birth, meet a convention and decide to switch places. The "good" twin from Canada falls in love with the other's wife, while the "bad" twin from Texas goes totally off the rails, abusing his trust every which way.

Dark, but with a lot of tension.

Whoa! Just. Whoa!

As my fingers hover over the keyboard trying to figure out how to start this review, I keep thinking of song lyrics. Probably because a character uses them so often in the book. But I just can't seem to pinpoint the right lyric to describe this thriller. Although the Doors', People are Strange keep popping in to my head.

First, a little disclosure. I typically do NOT like books that are written in the first person and somewhat like a diary. This is probably why it took me a while (25% in) to actually get in to this. Add in the fact that the POV changes virtually every other chapter (4 pages) and I was starting to think "I" was the crazy one.

Ronni is the wife of Brad. Brad is an a-hole to the tenth degree. But for some reason, he's a completely different person ever since he returns from his doctor convention in Philly. He's not just treating Ronni differently, he's actually nice to their child, Traci. But the weirdest part hasn't even happened yet. It's like he's possessed. For weeks he's sweet and caring and then, BAM, turns into the a-hole from hell, scaring the living poo out of her.

Brad is a prick. Certifiable, bordering on Schizo. What the hell happened in Philly? Man, that's a loaded question that in all honestly completely spirals out of control. I'm not even sure Brad truly "knows" what happens in Philly, but by the time this book is over, I'm pretty sure Brad doesn't even know who he truly is. At least Traci knew (hint hint).

Yep, I'm talking in circles. Why? Because if I start rattling off even ONE thing, it'll ruin your experience. And let me just say that it IS an experience. Overall, I'm happy I stuck with this one. It's absolutely a mind F that literally has you second guessing everything...and you think you know...but you don't.

Five Thrilling Stars! Beware this is a dark book that is filled with triggers so read with caution. This is Ronni and Brad's story, they are a happily married couple, that is until Brad returns from Philly after seeing his doctor. What happened to Brad after his appointment to turn him into a man who goes crazy? This is a book you have to read because I can't tell you anymore. The author writes a fantastic story that will keep you guessing until the very end! I absolutely could not put it down, the story is suspenseful, mind blowing sexual thriller. This is a book you most defiantly don't want to miss out on, get it now!! Highly recommend!

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review! This book was read and reviewed by Annamaria for Alpha Book Club.

This book was what I thought it would be and it was not what I thought it would be. Confusing? No. Surprising? Yes. It started out with a married couple each giving their version of how their marriage was. It was a dysfunctional marriage held together by domestic violence. A frigid wife and a cheating husband. This was the part that I understood and expected. What was unexpected was everything that came after. They way the author unfolded the story kept me questioning what was really going on with the husband, Brad. I don't really want to go all the way into the plot as I feel that you most likely read the synopsis and me going into the plot may jeopardize your enjoyment of the book. In all honesty, I wasn't enamored with any of the adult characters. That didn't stop me from wanting to read the story or even prevent me from hoping for anything. They were realistically written. They just weren't people that I would invite in my life as anything other than a neighbor or the parent of a child my child is friends with. The plot, though, I really enjoyed. In thinking about it, the characters are probably perfectly written for it. It is a bizarre tale. My love of psychology probably played a big part in way I like the story so much.

This book does describe things that happen in a relationship that involves domestic violence. Being a survivor of that, I am very aware that reading some things can trigger memories. I believe that we are all individuals with unique experiences and coping methods. So I mention this just as a heads up. I had no problem reading through this book. Some of things I did experience as I think some things are pretty typical of domestic violence. I thought the author wrote them well and kept the story moving forward. If you are a survivor interested in the book, I would say go for it. You are aware it is in there. You can prepare yourself for it and be able to keep reading, (or if something does make you uncomfortable you can always stop, skim or fast forward).

The book also contains sexual activity. I wouldn't call it hardcore porn. But the author did write out some graphic steamy scenes. I know some people don't want to read that so I mention it for them. I don't mind scenes like that myself. I thought the author did well with them. Infidelity is another subject some find objectionable that is in the book. I would like to say that infidelity happens. It happens often in dysfunctional marriages. The author wrote about it in a way that did not glorify it. Actually she showed just how well you can trust someone who is a cheater and how well they can trust too. She also included fidelity albeit in a strange way. I'll leave it to you to find out how she did all that.

The story is an interesting one. I enjoyed reading it. It easily held my attention and kept me reading. It had me guessing and analyzing the plot. If you are into books that do that, I invite you to try this one.

I participated in the Spring Into Horror Readathon and won a copy of this book. No review was requested or required. The opinions of the book are my thoughts on it. I would like to thank Michelle, who hosted the Readathon on her blog, Season of Reading, and the author who provided her book as a prize.

From The Book Junkie Reads . . . Dishonor Thy Wife . . .
Psychological Thriller. . . let me say this type of read is not my top most wanted, but there was something about this one that got my attention from the cover art to the blurb. I was drawn in and anticipating the day that I could read it. To call this a twisted romance was putting things on the mild side.

The twist and turns, ins and outs, the flips and flops of the plot and the interested characters keep the pages turning and the thrill of what was to come next going. I found no real affinity toward any one character but as the story unfolded things pulled me in further and had a few sparks coming to life. I began to feel like things were heading in a predictable direction only to have the page flip and present a different direction.

Psychological Thriller lovers pull out a chair and get started. Don't worry much the romance here was all secondary. This was pure thriller with minor sex and minor romance.

If you are looking for a thriller to take you there and you don't mind having a wife, a child, and a husband with questionable activities. You have found that right here.

OMGOODNESS, this is a book that peaks your interest at every turn! "What a wicked web we weave when we choose to deceive." Even when you think you figured out what was going to happen, there's a surprise waiting. The ending...the ending was a complete surprise! I definitely recommend reading "Obsession" if you love mystery thrillers!

This book is bizarre in its style of writing which took me a while to find my stride with but once I did I was turning the pages to try and make sense of what the hell was going on. And what the hell happened in Philadelphia for a good part of the book.

Brad and Ronni have an odd marriage to say the least, their marriage is loveless, borne out of a one night stand that produced their daughter and consequently a marriage of convenience that seems to have become very inconvenient. Yet following his return from a trip to a medical conference in Philly Brad is different and Ronni isn’t sure how or why or what kind of game he is playing.

Brad it is a total Jekyll and Hyde character and at times I hated him and felt sorry for his family in putting up with him. Then the twist came which I did not see coming in a long shot and so the second half of this book is spent learning what happened in Philadelphia and the fallout as a consequence. I honestly can’t say anymore without giving away the whole story other than this book went in a direction I was totally not expecting.

I have to say I had a real issue with the liberal and flippant use of the word rape throughout the book, though I understand the meaning behind it to the character, it was just not something I personally was comfortable with.

This book is a total play with your head kind of read, my first from this author who I look forward to reading more from.

3 Stars - I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Okay... This is going to be one of the hardest reviews to write. I'm so incredibly torn between loving this book and hating this book.

So, let's start with the good. There is some seriously twisted things going on in these pages. I totally applaud the author for making it so darn twisted and crazy... and fun trying to guess what on Earth is going on. I seriously related to Ronni and the whiplash she was getting from her husband's personality changes.

Now on to the bad, I think the beginning portion of this book was so horribly written and confusing it will lose people before they get farther into the story where things start to click and where we get to see the real genius behind the author's work. There are parts of the story that were quite unbelievable and that sort of ruined some of the crazy fun of the story.

All in all, I'm still torn on how I feel about the book. It was a twisted story for sure, and the writing wasn't bad per se, but for some reason at the end of the book I was happy it was over instead of wanting more, which isn't really a good thing so take that how you want.

I say pick it up, you may connect more with it in the beginning than I did and get more entertainment from it.

I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review...which is the ONLY reason I actually read the dumb thing.

First of all, this book needed developmental edits, then line edits, then it needed to be thrown into the garbage.

Yeah, I know that's harsh, but I can't help it. The book was terribly written. The lack of competent editing made me stop and reread certain sentences, and it oftentimes pulled me right out the story, not that I wanted to be IN the story in the first place.

There's no depth to the story or characters, and the supposedly dark, sexy scenes were like poorly produced episodes of Silk Stockings from Skinemax.

Second of all, the BIG REVEAL, the BIG SECRET that was supposed to string me along...well, I figured that out in the first chapter.

I only finished reading this book because I wanted to see if the main asshole got his balls handed to him like he deserved. He did, but it was an afterthought, sort of side scene, that didn't happen "on camera." We were told about it AFTER the fact, and boy was the ending L-A-M-E.

If another of Belinda Austin's book's blurb catches my eye, I will consider reading it...as long as she lists an editor as one of her contributors.

This was such a darkly intriguing read!I was absolutely absorbed from beginning to very end and found myself unable to put this one down! With tons of intrigue and twists, this book kept me completely captivated! Every time I though I had everything figured out, a new twist would be thrown in that blew my mind and opened my eyes to some details I didn't realize earlier! The storyline was completely original and very well thought out with tons of detail. The characters were each incredibly complex with personalities and emotions that really made me feel for them. The romance was hot yet sweet and not too raunchy at all. I love how this story was slowly unveiled, peeling layer by layer back and making me rethink everything that I've previously read in the story. The author did an amazing job keeping everything tied together flawlessly while keeping the intrigue and mystery going! I can't tell you how many times my mind was blown and I had a completely enlightening moment when something was revealed. The psychotic obsession, murder, betrayal ,jealousy, love , family and happiness all left my mind pleasantly spinning! This book was a complete pleasure to read and I can't wait to see what else this author has come out with!!

When you read as many books as I do you can pretty much predict how the book is gonna go... from the plot to the ending. It's rare to find a book that keeps you guessing. I have to say, though, that this book did keep guessing!

The book starts off with our heroine who is a good wife and tries to do everything she can to make her big shot husband happy even though she has that deep feeling that he is sleeping around.

And OMG her husband was a major a*shole... I wanted to off him myself. He was cruel and cold and hateful. Then all of a sudden one day he came home and threw me for a loop, he was loving and passionate and what she could want for a husband. But it didn't last... one day he would come home loving... the next he would be cold and heartless. It gave me whiplash and I couldn't figure out what his problem was.

I'm not gonna tell you how this book ends because you have to read it. But I will say I never saw the ending coming... it and just the book itself blew my mind! Dishonor Thy Wife does have an HEA for our heroine and the suspense is crazy, but I loved it.

This book is definitely 5+ stars worthy.

Wow…….really enjoyed this book. It had me hooked from the start.

The story is about people not quite being who you first think they are. Roguish, mean, hard characters interlaced with the sweetness and suffering of others. With a large dollop of sauce thrown in to boot. I truly felt for poor Ronni & Traci and was routing for them throughout, although at times her weakness drove me crazy. As secrets unfold and lies are found out it was hard not to sympathise with her over the inconsistency of the relationship she thought she was in.

I loved the style of writing between the chapters and character crossover and without giving too much away it made you zoom through each chapter with to get to the answers you need to find out. As for the ending, as a book lover I don’t like spoilers, but that was a good one it had me reading at full speed to finish it.

Asides from a few typos I thoroughly enjoyed it. Look forward to reading more by Belinda.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review......Whew!! After reading the description of this book I knew this was going to be a good read; I was not wrong. When I read the first page I had a feeling that it was going to be a long night and early morning for me because there was no way I was going to stop reading this book until I reached the end. It was fast paced, intriguing, heart wrenching, sexy, suspenseful, and a bit of a mystery. I kind of guessed from the first few pages what the twist was but it didn't deter me from reading on and finding out what other kind of obstacles the main characters were going to find themselves in. Ronni (short for Veronica) was a woman after my own heart. She was forced into a horrible situation because of her naivety but she did what she thought what was best in order for her to have a better life. I love the ending of the book; it brought me to tears. She finally has the "happily ever after" that she deserved. This was a great read and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

All I can say is WOW. There are so many secrets and most you get to learn.
How hard do you think it would be not knowing which husband you will see everyday? Jekyl or Hyde? When Brad comes home from a medical conference, Ronni isn't sure how to act. This is not the Brad she married and had to put up with the last years. He actually wants to spend time, and talk with her. Pays attention to their daughter, everything he usually doesn't do. Then he has to go away for a meeting and comes back the Brad she knows all too well. Insulting, rude, crass, you name it. The complete opposite of how he was acting just days earlier.
I can't say too much more and not give anything away. You will just have to read for yourself how amazing this story was. And i mean amazing, loved how you think one thing, then another just to have neither be correct. Loved it

ARC graciously provided and received for an honest review.

I had no idea what to expect when starting this book. For me, the book had a late 80's to early 90's feel to the writing and the characters. Manners, verbiage and dress. Which I really liked!!

With the twists and turns in this book, it definitely kept me guessing. Some things I did not see coming. I found Ronni, the main character to be quite humorous despite some of her situations.

An engaging and enjoyable read that kept me on my toes throughout. It ended much better than I initially expected. That was satisfying.

What a captivating thriller. It grabs you from the fist page and doesn't let go until the end. I would call this a psychological thriller because you can guess what the plot is (and you'd be wrong)...but you don't really know..until it's too late. The meet, the game, the jinx in the plan, the double-double cross, and the whammy ending you never see coming. Definitely a great book to read if you like thrillers and mysteries. It is written in POV, so if you are not used to it, it will take a chapter or two to get comfortable with the switching. Otherwise, turn the page and hold on for the ride!
