Culpepper Cowboys #1

Wyoming Wedding

Rate this book
Karlan Culpepper has worked his entire adult life, and most of his youth, to build up the ranch he knew he would someday inherit. When his grandfather dies, and the terms of his inheritance include he and his three brothers marrying within six months, and at least one of them having a baby on the way within the year, things get trickier. Contacting Dr. Lachele Simpson, a professional matchmaker, seemed the only way to go!
Hope, the oldest of the Quinlan Quadruplets needs nothing more than to get out from under her parents’ roof, and take her sisters with her. She feels stifled, and she wants more than anything to marry. After a long weekend of testing, the four sisters embark on a road trip that would change their lives. Hope quickly agrees to marry Karlan, one of the four brothers waiting for her and her sisters in Wyoming. Will they be able to make their marriage work? Or should they have waited to get to know one another a little better like all their siblings had?

1 ding-a-ling Star (Translation: Zero and I’m annoyed Stars)

I had so, so may issues with this story. First off the premise itself is ridiculous: we have four brothers whose grandfather has left them their family ranch in his will, but there’s a stipulation, they must all get married within a year and one of their wives has to get pregnant before that year is out. Well okay then, that’s completely normal and rational, right?! No loving grandparent ever wants their grandkids to marry for love, that’s not a thing… not at all.

Anyways, so the Culpepper boys hire a matchmaker to get all that silly business of finding a compatible match out of the way lickity split. The matchmaker finds sheltered quadruplets trying to escape their backward thinking father’s reign to fill the wifely void in the brothers’ lives. Karlan and Hope are the eldest siblings in their respective families and when they meet on the back porch Karlan immediately proposes to her, because she makes his ding-a-ling twitch. No, I’m not even kidding he refers to his cock as his “ding-a-ling” on many occasions in this story. *makes vomiting noises*

I have mentioned before that I like the marriage of convenience trope, and that is definitely at play here, but this is just an insane mess of STUPID! Hope agrees to marry Karlan that very afternoon on the understanding that they won’t have sex for a couple weeks while they get to know each other. Seems fair enough to me. Especially since Hope is that particular breed of 22 year-old virgin heroine who has never even kissed a man prior to Karlan. This is when the story went from stupid and contrived to complete bullshit, for me. Karlan doesn’t want his brothers to know he isn’t making the beast with two backs which his new bride, so they proceed to lie and evade to their siblings for the next stretch of time. Nothing, I mean NOTHING says “unmanly” quite like having patience and respect for your wife’s wishes, right?! Not to mention that Hope is irrationally grateful for Karlan allowing her this time. Even though he is still trying to convince her to have sex with him before that time is up.

Until he isn’t, and then follows one of the bizarrest series of stupidity and irrationality I have EVER come across. Karlan discovers a vibrator in Hope’s nightstand and decides that instead of talking to her about it or, y’know, being fucking delighted that his wife might be a sexual human being who is seeking to discover her own pleasure and enjoyment, he is going to proceed to ignore her and become a petulant fucking child about it. BECAUSE VIBRATORS ARE THE DEVIL!! I can’t even with this level of bullshittery! Especially since she has never even used it, in the first place. *grumbles* Also, when Karlan stops trying to get her in bed Hope gets completely pathetic and starts behaving like a kicked puppy. This is such a backwards love story. I don’t know when these characters hopped in the wayback machine to the 19th century, especially since there are sites like Etsy incorporated into the story, but I don’t even know how I am supposed to feel about this garbage.

Added to that the writing is ATROCIOUS and the characters are all annoying and two dimensional. Once again, the world has tried to teach me to not judge a book by its cover.

I read this about a month ago but sat on reviewing it because I thought this book was so stupid but I still want to read book 2.

It sounded promising. 4 brothers need to marry pronto in order to keep the ranch that has been in their family since the 1800s. They love it,have been working on since they were old enough to walk so losing it isn't an option. Their grandad dies and he put in his will in order for the boys to inherit the ranch they must marry within six months and at least one of them within the year has to have a baby or have one on the way. If not, it goes to their cousin who's a jerk and only wants to sell the ranch and house.

Everyone in their small town is taken so they turn to a professional match maker. She finds them 4 quadruplets. The quads went to the matchmaker because life at home was too much. Their parents are bible beater crazy and the girls are not allowed to do anything. They even had to get their college degree in homemaking. So to leave home they ask matchmaker to hook them up and get them married, in order to leave their strict religious parents.

Why? If you're finally leaving because you were never allowed to live life, why would your first thought be marriage?? All 4 of them keep talking about being independent and working for a living on these secret jobs they been hiding from their parents. And not wanting to be controlled by any one ever again. So let's marry strangers!!

The matchmaker gives the guys 1 month to propose to the girls or they have to pay them something like 10k each. So the girls sneak out of their house and head to Wyoming. I'm confused because if they're able to sneak out to go get hitched. Why don't they sneak out and have a life.

Ok so back to the story. They get there and the two oldest siblings see each other. Literally see each other. Homeboy's like marry me. Quad 1 is like ok. And they do. That day. Here is where I was bothered. She marries him. Marries! But then is like um, we can't sleep together because. I can't sleep with someone I just met. What!

Let me get this straight. You are crazy religious, marriage is forever yet sleeping with a man takes higher priority than marriage? You know for better or worse, in sickness and health... I would think for being extremely religious, she'd take...I don't know...vows as more sacred than her virginity.

Omg it doesn't even stop there. I laughed through the book because Homie. He refers to his dick as his ding a ling. A ding a ling. Um. Yeah I think I used that on my son when he was two, and realized, yeah that's not going work. And he doesn't stop with just that.
“Slap and tickle?” “Do you prefer getting frisky? Bumping uglies? Aggressive cuddling? Assault with a friendly weapon? Bedroom rodeo? Boinking? The pickle tickle?” He also names it. Charlie. Charlie wants to come out and play. Blahaha what! That's not even homies name.

Moving on

The cousin comes to the ranch after homie gets married and demands the brothers buy him out or he's taking it to court and forcing them to sell. The 4 quads look at each other and I swear (I can just picture it in my head) they unite.
“Hope looked at Faith. Faith nodded. Chastity and Joy walked over to Hope, each putting a hand on her shoulder. They may not have been allowed to use them for making money, but all the sisters had skills. Their men were about to wonder what hit them. They were going to help save the ranch.”

So they help. They open a daycare, one sister sells dolls, girlfriend is a sewer so she sows clothes for sister's dolls. The other two, I forget they sell stuff too like doll furniture. There isn't anything wrong with what they're doing. I think it's sweet the girls want to help the brothers out. It was just how it was written, that sounded so cheesy.

I didn't really care for Hope, I thought how she treated Karlan was ridiculous. He kept trying to tease her, be sweet with her and she just reminded me of this girl who needed him to her away from home but the minute something else came sling she was going bail.

Anyway, they finally do sleep together like 2 months later, after 2 other sisters marry and get pregnant.

Like I said I didn't like this book, but her sister has this huge secret and I want to know what it is. Lol I'm a mess so I think I'm probably going to read hers after that I'm done. No one else interested me in the book.

I must admit. Wyoming Wedding isn't normally a genre or trope I'd reach for. Cowboys in general aren't my goto. I much prefer darker reads, haha. BUT the blurb did sound interesting. I Mean a matchmaker pairing 4 sisters to 4 brothers. What could go wrong? haha.
This book focuses more on Hope and Karlan. One set of the "couples." The novella covers their meeting, their awkward start, and the budding romance that follows. As with any romance, there's some struggles that come up, but that's normal.

Overall, this book is pretty wholesome. I may check out others in the series.

I think I must have been reading a totally different story, according to the reviews. Perhaps it has been updated, I really don't know. It wasn't a perfect read, but it also wasn't crap.
I liked this story. 3.5☆ (rounded up)

The author of this book must be a fan of Chuck Berry as much as she uses the word, Ding-a-Ling. The way the author addresses anything regarding things of an intimate nature she uses words that an adolescent might use in stead of grown mature adults. This was not a well written book and there were a lot of phrases where the author is down right disrespectful in some of the remarks that some of her characters made about other characters especially if they were regarding ones faith. For example, Karlan Culpepper who supposedly is attracted to Hope Quinlan. Says she looked like a "Bible Thumper." First of all what does a "Bible Thumper" look like? That seems like quite a disparaging remark to be said by someone who is attracted to another. And quite a lot of her statements that have to do with faith, church, the pastor or condescending. The characters especially the Culpepper men and Karlan in particular are not very well developed. One time he sounds like a grown mature man that could be a mayor and the next he sounds like an adolescent boy as he deals with intimate issues.

It is evident the author did not do any research prior to writing in order to make her writing authentic. This novel almost seemed like a mix between historical romance and modern romance. The setting was modern but the storyline has some similarities to mail order bride type historical romances.

I work at a University where I have evaluated transcripts from all over the United States and internationally as well and I have never seen a major in homemaking or transfer work of that nature. We have transcripts from the early 60s, the 50s, and prior to that in our archives that have some majors/degrees like that; but since then I have never seen such a thing.

And, I can understand them wanting to get out from under their parents thumb. But to totally treat them as if they were lower than dirt is not good. I can understand them disagreeing and questioning their parents views and having other issues; but there at least be some affection that still exists. There were a lot of issues that I disagreed with my Mother and would not have wanted to live with her again after leaving home when I graduated from high school; but that doesn't mean I didn't love her.

I was glad when I was finally finished.

I am sorry but I just can't see myself reading anything more from her if this is an example of her writing.

No, no, no, times a hundred....

Since I'm reading some heavy books and school books, I thought I'll read a quick romance novel to lighten my mood. This did do that, I found myself laughing a lot. But not for a good reason.

The plot, characters and the dialogue was just so bad that I had to laugh. Now most romance novel can't be serious even if they try. The sad thing is I think this one tried and failed.

Four brothers each need a wife and one has to have a baby on the way by the end of the first year, so they can keep their ranch. Four sisters are controlled by their parents who believe a women should only marry and have kids. So of course they all marry each other. This book is about the two oldest marriage, which happens one hour after they meet.

Then the next 80 pages are about them going back and forth on if they should have sex. She wants to wait, he understands but also keeps saying that his ding-a-ling would like to meet her. YES HE SAYS DING-A-LING to much.

Then they fight, fight some more, finally sleep together and the book ends. Save yourself the trouble find a different book.

If you want the ranch you've worked all your life, you and your brothers have to marry within the next six months and one of you has to have a pregnant wife within a year... or words to that effect is what the Culpepper brothers were told when their grandfather's will was read. With no likely candidates in the area, brother Karlen suggests a matchmaker.

Oldest Quinlan quadruplet, Hope is frustrated that she and her sisters aren't allowed to kiss, date or work; their jobs are to find suitable husbands and there are few enough candidates in their small town without also being part of the county oddity. The sisters believe working with a matchmaker is the perfect solution.

I've read and appreciated the bones of this outing before as this reader's taste is for a more mature writing style, more mature characters with less snickering about sex. Another gripe was the characters and plot didn't feel synced (or in this century), also the read felt rather silly throughout. Even as a short this was too long.

This was a DNF for me.

It was just not well written. Kind of all over the place and it sounded like a child wrote it.
What grown man calls his pride and joy a Ding-A-Ling?!?

I’m all for a writer calling it something funny like meat stick, sword, or something funny and inventive. Ding-A-Ling is neither. It’s what some teach a toddler boy to call it so he doesn’t go out in public yelling Penis. 🤦🏼‍♀️

This book had no depth to the characters.

And he sees her and 30 seconds later asks her to marry him. I know it needed to be quick. But that’s crazy. He didn’t have a ring or wedding planned.

All the characters just seemed like they were mentally challenged and had the brains of children to me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Karlan was a bit frustrating with how dismissive he was acting towards Hope's and her sisters "crafts." Like yes he was supportive but at the same time it felt like he wasn't really taking it seriously and not being quite appreciative of the work that they did put into it. Also, him initially bothering Hope about getting intimate. Like yes you should but ya'll just met so can you back up and give her a bit of space to breath.
I am so glad it got resolved even though it took two weeks.
Also, the way that they feel in love so fast is just so hard for me to understand because I feel like that doesn't usually happen that fast.
Overall, this this book was good and a bit short which makes me excited for the other books.

This was so ridiculous, I don't really have the words......
I was honestly waiting for the point in the book where it became clear that it is set in an alternate reality, because I couldn't believe that anyone would act the way the characters did in our current society.

My little feminist heart was crying so hard while reading this book, I don't know if it has recovered yet. Don't get me wrong, I can enjoy a story where people like to make a home and are happy with their place in life, even if their goal is not the high-flying career. But this? Puh-lease!

Also, which self-respecting man is calling his penis a "ding-a-ling"? How old are they? Six?

This book is a big no-no!

Karlan Culpepper is willing to try anything to keep the family ranch. The will gives explicit instructions on what needs to be done. All the Culpepper brothers must be married and at least one couple must be pregnant in short order. So they decide to contact a matchmaker. That brings the Quinlan quads to Wyoming to marry the Culpepper men. This first story is Karlan and Hope's story. Such wonderful characters and a unique story line. This is a sweet, short romance and could be a standalone read.

Hilariously bad? Insanely mediocre

The person who wrote these characters is a little off. The characters are so sweet your teeth hurt, and the crazy that is how they deal with life is decidedly askew. Do people really talk and like like it's the Leave It to Beaver show now days. I honestly think none of them did then--like none of us act as insane as Friends or Big Bang. But seriously, the story is screwed up, sweet but screwed up. Amish girls would roll their eyes at how backwards these girls are.

Wow, I rarely leave bad reviews… but this book was just cringe-worthy all the way through. The plot was just odd, with some minor plot holes. The characters weren’t really all that great/relatable/likable. But what really took the cake was the dialogue, particularly the MMC’s cringy references to sex and the male appendage.. Juvenile boys are less cringy when referencing sex than this grown man. Yikes. Overall, I found the book poorly written.

NEW LIVES; NEW BEGINNINGS

What a great start to what promises to be a cute and hilarious new series.
Imagine this book starts off with the eldest brother enlisting the help of a matchmaker to find him a bride. She not only finds a potential bride but but the bride comes with her three sisters and they just happen to be quadruplets. What a fun way to start.

Oh this was a kick and a definite surprise since I'm not usually a fan of insta-love unless it is a paranormal type book. However, I got this first book free through Amazon, but was quickly engrossed and ended up buying Vol 1 with 3 books. The strict upbringing and skewed views Hope tries to overcome is easy to understand and the other characters are interesting and funny in their own ways.

Sweet and hot

I liked this book it was sweet and hot at the same time. There wasn't lots of sex and if you like that a lot in books then this isn't for you but its not a clean christian book either. Would like to read the rest of the series to see how the rest of the brothers get on in their marriages.

A Good Quick Break in Between Heavier Titles

Thru all 100 pages I had only one comapirson to that book. If you put Disney Channel and Hallmark Romantic Movies that would fit right in - with power of love and friendship we can overcome everything. Book was simple, fun and unique idea. Maybe little bit rushed and skipped a lot.

I read this fast, enjoyable Novela by Kristen Osbourne in one afternoon. Because of the length on the book, it did not get into a lot of detail, but I found it still enjoyable. One reviewer complained because the sex was G Rated. Sorry, but I really prefer that type of story telling.

Dreadful

This was not worth the time to read it. The two leads in this story were both really unlikable and the dialogue was childish. I was looking forward to having six books to read in a series but not now.

A bit bland for me

Initially I thought the concept was a good one but it was so nice it was bordering on the boring. I'm certain it's a storyline that many would find appealing, however it was too 'sweet and nice' for me.
