Touch the Sky

Lucas Barnett and Gabriel Stewart didn’t have it easy as kids. They were only trying to deal with bad situations at home when they became lifelines for each other. Their pipe dream was to someday meet in LA, where Lucas would design skyscrapers, and Gabriel would learn to fly. But then Gabriel disappeared without so much as a goodbye, and Lucas got himself in trouble with the law.

Five years later, both men are at a loss when they run into each other at a Hollywood bar. Lucas is still angry, but it’s not as if Gabriel could control how his mind and body had betrayed him. Being found on the ledge of that bridge had changed everything.

The attraction is immediate, but it’s more than their inability to keep their hands off each other. Neither man expects the fierce connection pulling them together. Unfortunately, ignoring their problems doesn’t make them disappear. Gabriel’s internal struggles are serious…dangerous. And no matter how much Lucas wants it to be true, saving Gabriel won’t make up for not being able to save his mom. If they don’t find the strength to face their own demons before the darkness takes hold, they risk more than just losing each other forever.

'Touch the Sky' is the story of Lucas and Gabriel, two boys who try to find their way back to one another. Even if the story was not exactly a second chance romance story, at times it felt like it was and if you'll give it a shot you will find out why. I’ve read several books by Nyrae Dawn, but I’ve never read Christina Lee’s work before. In the past I enjoyed many collaborations between many authors, so I was excited to find out what these two will deliver. Well, they deliver a very sweet story, equally heartbreaking and heartwarming and overall well written. A story about love and friendship, 'Touch the Sky' was told in dual POV, which I enjoyed because this was Lucas’s story as much as it was Gabriel’s.

Lucas and Gabriel never met each other, more exactly never saw each other face to face. From the moment they met on an online chat room they simply clicked. They were different, but very similar at the same time. Both of them had some problems at home and both of them felt alone then. When they started to exchange emails, neither of them had expected to find in the other a good friend. They became the best of friends, talking about everything and anything, making plans to see each other soon and move to Hollywood. Unfortunately their plans were wrecked. Something happened with Gabriel making him stop all communication with the other boy.

“Is it like this for everyone? I wonder. The first person they let in, is it like they permanently have a hold of them? Are they eternally engraved into their worlds?”

Five years have passed since Lucas talked with Gabriel. Lucas moved in Hollywood after all…alone. He tries to forget about his stupid immature decisions who got him in trouble with the law and also forget about his mother’s addiction who almost destroyed him. Gabriel left his home to move to Hollywood because he simply needed to breathe, to live his own life away from his controlling parents.

Both have never forgotten about the other, but when they finally meet face to face nothing it is like they had expected. Both of them changed in some way and on top of that Lucas never forgave Gabriel for the lack of communication. Time passes and they eventually start a tentative friendship, reconnecting with each other, friendship that slowly becomes so much more.

“That’s my heart right there,” I say, closing each of his fingers into a fist. His eyes snap open and he looks down at his hand. “I give it to you freely. You’re the only one who’s ever had it anyway.” ~Gabriel

I liked this one, but I can’t say I loved it. I felt like something was missing. What exactly? I really don’t know. But I know that some aspects of the story felt a little too rushed for my liking. Personally I would have preferred Gabriel’s illness to be the main focus of the story, or at least this aspect to be as important as the relationship between the two boys.

The story was fast-paced, maybe at times a little too fast-paced. I can’t say I liked very much the relationship development between Lucas and Gabriel. I liked the connection between them and everything, because there certainly was a connection, but I wanted to read more about the two of them together as a couple.

I think both MC were portrayed really well in a very realistic way. Gabriel was a character I felt deeply for from the start. Despite everything, he was strong and also determined to somehow fight the reality, his disorder. The fact that he took responsibility and how he did it was truly admirable. I liked the way the authors dealt with his illness. Lucas’s past was sad as well. He was a great character – sweet and supportive with Gabriel, he became everything the other boy needed.

“You make me feel like…” Lucas says against my lips, barely coming up for air as his lips capture mine in another powerful kiss.
“Like what?” I gasp, attempting to catch my breath.
“Like things might be okay.” He pulls back to stare into my eyes. “You make me wanna try for more.”

I liked the ending and I was happy for these two, but I would have preferred a HEA more than a HFN ending, so an epilogue would have been really welcomed.

Overall, a good read!

Christina Lee is a new to me author, but Nyrae Dawn is one I’ve read many times before and I’ve loved all her books. They always have the right amount of emotion and she flawlessly writes the male pov. When I saw she had a new book out and it was M/M I was like sign me up to read this one! I’m glad I did. Touch the Sky was a beautifully written, heartwarming story of love, friendship, and overcoming obstacles.

Lucas and Gabriel ‘meet’ when they are teenagers. They actually never meet in person, but they email to each other. Share secrets, hopes and dreams. They are the first person each one comes out to. They were each other confidants. As teens, they were exactly who each other needed.
All I knew was that I had a friend who understood me and at the time, that was everything.

And they had plans. Plans to come out to their parents and meet up in West Hollywood where they could live in acceptance. It was about to happen- then poof. Gabriel seemed to just fall off the face of the earth. Lucas hadn’t heard from him and 5 years have passed.

Something big happened to Gabriel to make him cut off all ties with Lucas. He left his family’s home and moved to WeHo to make it on his own. He’s working construction, but still has his dream of flying. Lucas also found his way out of some juvenile trouble and is now in WeHo bartending. One night, as fate would have it, these two run into each other unexpectedly. Meeting for the first time, face to face.
I miss him too. I didn’t realize how damn much until just this moment.

They don’t just reconnect and go riding into the sunset overnight. Lucas is upset with Gabriel for the lack of communication. Eventually, he is able to explain and their friendship comes back full force. Only this time, they can actually talk face to face and spend time with one another. And there is definitely more than friendship brewing between them. I loved watching their relationship develop. They have true and real feelings for one another, which is so different from the casual hookups both have had in the past. This is real.
“You make me feel like…”

“Like what?”

“Like things might be okay. You make me want to try for more.”

I won’t say too much more about the story, but the issues these two have to deal with are real and hard. Mental health is something that can be a huge obstacle in a relationship. I love how honestly these authors portrayed this disease. And how devoted this couple was to one another that they wanted to try to work through it. M/M romance is a genre I love to dip into when the mood strikes. If you’re a fan of it, and you’re looking for a story that’s equal parts sweet, sexy, and heartwarming this is one I would highly recommend. 4 stars.

“I'm not stupid enough to think things are perfect and that they always will be, but they’re good.

He’s good. We’re good. As long as we hold on to that, hold on to each other, we can make it through anything.”

I think the idea was a strong one, but the execution in terms of writing and the way their relationship was treated was very weak and flat. 😐 You know that feeling when you're engrossed in something that you can't stop reading even if you try. And then there's that feeling where you're looking at the words and wondering why there is such an unpleasant, if not distasteful feeling reverberating within you, simply because so much of the writing lacks appeal, but you want to stay faithful till the end. That's how I felt while reading Touch the Sky. 😫 I barely felt like I got to know the two characters, before they're already diving for each other's pants - in sex scenes that did nothing for me whatsoever in either being hot or charged or even emotionally amped that I could feel the intensity of their relationship. 😟

And looking at Lucas with his hands mashed against his forehead all raw energy and beautiful fury makes me ache to my core. Like my insides have turned to pulp from his words and his fist.

Because I miss him too. I didn’t realize how damn much until just this moment.
”

And I need to feel something - some kind of tug to the heart strings that makes me get emotional and caught up in their romance and their plight. I was not feeling anything, but rather going through the motions of writing that was quite subpar and a bit too repetitive at times. 😒 I was not completely sold on the depiction of mental illness, especially with Gabriel being bipolar. 'A long time ago, my friend had sewed himself into the very fibers of my skin—my heart—and since then, he’s added a few more stitches.' I never really felt like it developed into anything major - it seemed more like it served as a backdrop, rather than a key component of their relationship. I didn't feel like it was taking it seriously, and I was not satisfied, rather irritated at how some of the sex scenes were not only awkward but were poorly placed throughout the narrative. 😮‍💨

You make me feel like…” Lucas says against my lips, barely coming up for air as his lips capture mine in another powerful kiss.

“Like what?” I gasp, attempting to catch my breath.

“Like things might be okay.” He pulls back to stare into my eyes. “You make me wanna try for more.
”

The story behind Lucas and Gabe was a nice one; how they were unable to continue their email connection from when they were seventeen, waiting for that moment where they could come out at eighteen and break away from their families and be free, only for that never to happen. And now at twenty-two, meeting up the way that they did - I loved their reunion - felt their pain and heartbreak and resentment over how poorly things ended between the two. I loved the anger and hurt that came from that sudden departure - 'cry for the scared kids we once were and the tainted adults we’ve become'. 🥺 But, the sparks immediately start flying and their feelings for each other kick off into high overdrive as they slowly come to terms with what stage they are in their lives and where they want to go from here.

Lucas' dream of wanting to be an architect and Gabriel's desire of becoming a pilot are still very close and dear to them, despite the heavy baggage of their parents and childhood weighing heavily on them. But, as they spend more time together, I liked the sweetness that came afterwards, as they slowly acknowledged their attraction for each other. 🥹 'Be part of him like he’s already part of me, interwoven so deep into the fabric of my heart, I’m not sure I could ever completely let him go.' Minus, the cringe details that my heart really can't stomach in how they're portrayed, I'm glad that they were able to find each other after living such traumatic and painful lives as they've had. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 They were willing to make it work between the two of them; to fight off those dark and depressive thoughts with the power of their love and willingness to want better for themselves. As much as I wasn't entirely satisfied with the depiction of the mental health struggles, I did highlight a lot of their affectionate and touchy-feeling moments together that did warm my heart, so I can't say it wasn't a total waste. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Your raft, my raft—it doesn’t even matter as long as we’re together. I don’t want anybody else either.”

So, it wasn't entirely awful, just - lacking in depth, especially where it matters. 😮‍💨 It's tough when you don't mind certain things, but everything is just so wrong, that you can't bring yourself to appreciate it enough! 😩 I am curious about the side characters who were included; it'll be interesting to see how their own stories play out, especially Conner's. And yes, I probably opted to read this solely because of the cover, so, I am guilty of that. I can't say that I ended it on a satisfactory note, despite the hopeful and happier than before ending they ended up with - albeit a rather too easy and convenient one. Just a bit of a disgruntled one at how the writing ruined it for me and a bit hesitant to continue, but my curiosity is piqued, so it'll be difficult to ignore it entirely. 😔

Touch the Sky by Christina Lee and Nyrae Dawn is the touching story of two young who meet online. They are both struggling at home and have made a pact to come together and start over when they turn 18. Unfortunately, life gets in the way of their plans, and they lose touch. Neither one has forgotten the other, and when they meet again by chance all those feelings of familiarity, hope, longing can't be denied.

My highlights:

-Gabe. He suffers from bipolar disorder and since he was uninsured was unable to get his medicine. Despite his condition and everything he has suffered, there was still this light that beamed from him. I also appreciated how his disorder was handled and how he came on his own.
-Lucas. My heart broke for him for everything that he had to deal with but just like Gabe I thought the authors did an excellent job developing his character and having him come on his own.
-The story is told from an alternating POV.
-Angst. The story carries a heavy tone but never felt overly angsty, and I think it always gave a feeling of hope even in it's darkest moments.
-Chemistry. These two men complimented each other perfectly both as friends and as lovers.
-Pace. The pace was flawless, flowed effortlessly.

My only thing is I would've loved an epilogue but don't worry the story does end with a strong HFN. I know they'll make it, but I would've liked to see them years down the road.

All in all, this book gets 4.8 Stars. This was a beautiful friends to lovers story that will break your heart and heal it with hope. Great job, ladies!

P.S. I can't wait for book two, but I'm praying it's a spinoff a different character and not a sequel for Gabe and Lucas. Please no more heartbreak for them! Leave them happy. ♥

A truly heartfelt story about reconnecting with your first love and moving on from the past.

Life has not been hearts and flowers for Gabriel and Lucas, who meet each other online and connect immediately in their teens. As their friendship grows, they get and offer much needed support regarding their shitty home lives, and they make big plans to meet up once they turn 18. However, Gabriel unknowingly has bipolar disorder, and his impulsive actions lead to his institutionalization, unfortunately cutting off all communication with Lucas. During that time, Lucas has his own tragic struggles, but despite the loss of contact, neither can forget the other.

Then one day, they somehow cross paths, and though their meet-greet is anything but joyous, they slowly test the waters into getting to know each other again. Their past connection bridges them towards the present, allowing them to fall back into their easy comaraderie. Both Lucas and Gabriel try to put up a brave front, but they are far from where they want to be in their lives. Gabriel struggles daily with his mental illness, wanting to remain free of the meds that help him navigate his actions in a safe manner, but knowing is easier said than doing. Lucas is stuck in a rut, wanting to better himself but overwhelmed and stymied by so much guilt and fear.

Tentatively these two progress their relationship into more and more, and it is sweet and tender and hot. They want so much; can they achieve it despite being so scared of failing the other?? Major points go towards the excellent writing, as it served to enhance the emotional turmoil and pain these two have suffered. Be reassured the angst isn’t gratuitous, the hurt comfort is at its best. These two are so precious, wanting the other, hoping for more, tentative and careful and daring to grab onto something so crucial and vital to their happiness. It twisted my gut over and over - but in a really good way.

Lucas & Gabe - They Got this!! 5+ I-love-you-enough-to-share-my-raft-with-you stars!!!
This book was amazing!! I feel like I have touched the sky after reading this book and I think everyone should read this brilliant book!!

I really can't express how much I loved this book so soon after reading it. It was very emotional and while there seem to be a lot of books popping up with the subject of depression or bipolar disorder none of them are the same, none of them copy the other - every single story including Touch the Sky is beautiful and full of heartfelt emotion that makes you fall in love with the characters. You just can't help but love these two! Lucas and Gabriel are going to grab your heart and hold it forever..such an amazing story!!

This story follows Lucas and Gabriel who meet via an online Chatroom and then start emailing each other back and forth. They quickly become close, probably closer than if they had met the typical way and started talking face-to-face. This is because they were able to hide behind their computer screens, able to share deep, dark secrets with another person who never judged you and you never had to look them in the eyes - they bonded this way and that bond is the start of something beautiful. With their plans to meet up and live in West Hollywood when they turn 18 neither of the boys can ever imagine life won't turn out as they plan. But then, life happens. They lose contact. Is all lost forever?

Well, never fear cause we have two romantic at heart authors who were not about to let our two guys story end without an extremely happy ending. This story just makes them work for it and tests them with real life trials, illness, addiction, and more.. But when they meet...oh it's bittersweet!

Now Luke and Gabe have to figure out can they regain what they had as teenagers when they were each other's best friend. Is their foundation strong enough to support them, when life try's to make them fall. Do they still have each other and will they be enough for each other...Yeah, you're going to have to read this awesome book to find out!! Besides making you're heart swell with emotion this book with melt your panties off when things hear up between Luke and Gabe! They both make sure the other is fully satisfied!

One of my Favorite Quotes;
“Where’s your sense of romance?” “Romance? You know what’s romantic?” Lucas scoffs. “Rose moving over so Jack can get on the goddamn raft. Or how about Jack gets on the raft first and she lies on top to create body warmth, and they both survive?”

Later to this:
“I’m more than happy to stay on your couch...” “Remember Rose and Jack on the raft?” he asks with a smirk. “I’ll make room.”

I FLoved It!!

Excellent book! Excellent start to a new series! 5+ Stars!! These guys got this!!

3.5 stars for this touching romance

Lucas and Gabriel met online when they were teens. They shared via mail about their shitty childhood, one poor and with an alcoholic single mother, dreaming to become an architect, and the other with a depressive mother and a controlling and abusive father, dreaming to become a pilot. They made a pact to come out and then meet in LA to fulfill their dream together. But life intruded and their contact stopped all of a sudden.
Several years later, when they are 22, they met again in LA. The connection they shared is still there, shattered of course, but still strong enough to be restored and evolves in a loving relationship. And still strong enough to deal with Gabriel’s bipolar disorder and Lucas’s guilt over his mother’s death.

It’s a sweet, steamy and romantic story between 2 lovable characters, with hard moments handled with care, the right amount of heartbreak, friendship and hope.
I was not swooned, but still, I enjoyed it a lot.

What a great story!
'Touch the Sky' touched my heart. The authors have taken real care to draw their MCs and their story:

Gabriel: so torn and lost and in the grip of his condition. His illness is dominating his life because he is unable to face it. His fear of being locked up again is simply too big. I can't blame him for that after what he went through! And the American Health system doesn't make things easier for him either. As for his parents: - I hated how they treated him and how he still craved their love even thought they didn't deserve him.

Lucas: who has withdrawn from the world into himself after the death of his mother which he blames himself for. With shutters down firmly in place he doesn't want to open up for anyone. He carries so much guilt he can hardly breathe from all the pressure.

Both men need to deal with their 'stuff', and I loved the way this was happening because it felt real and genuine. There is no OTT drama, but real conversations and actions. No doubt that the authors' personal and professional experience have a lot to do with the authenticity of the book.

I really enjoyed both men, and their individual POVs, and the way they tackled their demons in the end. This is a lovely, low angst read about two very likeable, flawed MCs who find themselves once they have found each other.

Recommended.

The narrators did a great job. But it was a hard story to listen to.

The boys had difficult childhoods. Then, as they're nearing adulthood, they get an even worse hand of cards.

It's always hard to read about mental illness. It's especially heartbreaking when the character is so young. But the story, while melancholy throughout, does end on a happy, hopeful note.

This is the 3rd M/M book that deal with mental health issue that I've read this year. What are the chances? Anyway, I tried to refrain from comparing and will judge each by its own merit.

Lucas and Gabriel were online friends when they were 17. They wrote to each other about anything and everything and make a pact to meet at LA when they turned 18. However, Gabriel disappeared off the radar and Lucas has lost his best friend ever since.

5 years later, they meet again and their life is no longer that of the naive little boys.

Although the story touch on Gabriel's depression, is not really the main focus of the story. Their reunion after the 5 years gap, shows that each man still struggling to achieve their dreams and reconciliating the fact that they have lost so much. They are tip toeing around each other and unsure how to move forward in their friendship. The pacing is on the slower side and deals with a ton of inner demons. I also find the constant reference to Lucas past and his failure a tad repetitive.

Apart from that, I like the underlying message of the story and how Gabe's issue is being handled. I wish both Luke and Gabe can one day achieve their dreams together.

Maybe someday I'll be standing on the roof of one of your skyscrapers. And you'll be passenger on one of my planes. Someday we'll fly high. High on life.

Bonito, muchos feelings.

3.5 stars. I liked it but didn't love it. I liked both MCs but something was just missing for me. I never totally felt the connection between Luke and Gabe. Then the ending was a bit abrupt for me. When it ended I was still trying to flip pages looking for more. There's no epilogue, which I understand not every book will have but...
I know we will see more of them in the next book so I guess we can get more of their story there. I love my epilogues though, just sayin'. I will try more of this series though. I'm looking forward to Conner's story.

Possible Triggers: Mental Illness & Depression
Lucas and Gabe are two young guys who, at some point, had a close enough connection to talk about their dreams, and that they wanted to meet up as adults and somehow make their way together. However, they mysteriously and tragically loose contact, but then find one another again in the very place they both wanted to escape to when they were kids. Nothing worth having is easy.

There are usually always obstacles to overcome. The story and the method of storytelling grabs you from the beginning. A lot of the story is told through emails between the two, which are interspersed as flashbacks throughout the chapter giving us a peek into their early friendship. Things are tense when they first reconnect.

They are both shocked to see each other, of course, and Lucas is harboring some serious bitterness towards Gabriel for dropping out of his life with not a word five years earlier. Gabe is sincere and sweet in his desire to explain, though, and their friendship returns with a natural ease. You can't help but adore them both. Their honesty and true attraction for each other shines brightly through.

The story portrays characters who are struggling with mental illness. But it is handled with by this author with a great deal of care and understanding. Gabe’s battle had a very real feel and was delicately well done...but it may cause some readers anxiety. I couldn't help but admire how Gabe decided he needed to handle his therapy. Luke also had some demons of his own, along with a heavy dose of guilt and self-loathing...but seeing these guys fight through these things together was so touching and emotional. First book I've read by this author, but it won't be the last.

3.5/5 stars.

This a touching romance that was fairly low in angst considering the subject matter. The MCs were sweet, and depictions of mental illness were thoughtfully done. However, the first-person present-tense narrative didn’t really work for me, as the dialogue and internal monologues of the characters felt too literal and straight forward to me, hence my lower star rating

Overall I enjoyed this, even though there were a few things that bothered me.

Full RTC....

~*~

So I enjoyed Gabe and Luke together, and I enjoyed this story. I thought the author's did a good job portraying Gabe's bipolar disorder and they didn't treat bipolar disorder like it meant Gabe was crazy or anything like that. They approached it with respect, I think.

I liked how the story handled everything when it all came to a head and how healthy what Gabe and Luke did - how Gabe knew he had to get better by himself, for himself, and some time away to be ready to be together was a good choice.

It wasn't just a "we can't be together because of reasons" kind of thing, it was legitimate and it made sense. With how Luke was willing to do anything for Gabe (so much so that he wanted to save him, like he had wanted to save his mother) even though it had to be Gabe that wanted to get better. Luke couldn't be the force that made Gabe better, Gabe had to be that force for himself.

But we know that people can't save other people (well, physically of course people can) but you can't save someone else mentally. If they don't want to get help for themselves, then you can't do anything. You can be there for them and help them and support them, but if they don't want it, none of that will make a difference.

A few things did frustrate me, like the ending. It was pretty abrupt, I felt, and I was expecting more (and I was only at 92%, so i feel like that expectation wasn't unreasonable) but it turns out it ended there and the rest were previews for other books. Which is fine, but that just meant I was reading along and then bam, it was over and I was like "wha? huh? That's the end?" I was expecting a more settled ending. There wasn't even an epilogue to solidify things and make it a happy ending, which I feel would have rounded out this story perfectly.

I also felt the chemistry wasn't as much as it could have been and the sex scenes needed some spicing up, except for one or two which were excellent (the one on the roof before things go bad...yeah, that was hOT)

I thought Luke was a bit of an asshole at first too because he just assumed the worse about Gabe without even stopping to think "maybe there was a reason he couldn't contact me. Maybe I should give him a chance to explain" nah he was just angry and made at Gabe, assuming the worst right off the bat. It was fairly self absorbed view point, imo. This was also kinda slow going for me for a good portion of the book before it picked up for me.

But it still enjoyable and once it picked up I really started to enjoy it, so I recommend it even with my frustrations here and there.

Touch the sky is the first book from Christina Lee that I managed to finish. It was entertaining, sweet and fast paced, a thing that I appreciated at the moment. The story was interesting and flows directly to the point without any unnecessary drama.

Lucas and Gabriel met through a chatroom when they were young and as the blurb says, they became each other lifeline until Gabe stops answering his emails. Five years later, they see each other for the very first time at the bar where Lucas works and things are strained between each other, especially from Lucas who holds a grudge towards Gabe because he feels abandoned by him.

The thing is these kids had some pretty heavy baggage and after they open up to each other, they realize there is more to the story than they let on. One of my few niggles about the story was that Gabe is bipolar, I don't have any problem with him being bipolar, what bugged me the most was the way the authors approach Gabe's illness. I've read books with this illness and I guess I was expecting something a bit more developed, I don't know, I didn't actually feel his illness.

Besides, I felt that the writing lacks energy. It's simple and repetitive that hovered on the edge of being obnoxious.

To not make this longer than necessary, I enjoyed what I read. Do I wish some things worked up in a different way? Yes. This is a story that was so full of potential that IMO the authors didn't know how to exploit. But if I disregard that, I can say that Lucas and Gabe's relationship was sweet, hot and I liked seeing how they brought down each other walls and become friends and then lovers.

Christina Lee and Nyrae Dawn have teamed up to deliver a touching, heartfelt story that was brimming with so much raw emotions, hope and healing. Touch the Sky is a story that douses readers to FEEL the vulnerability, sadness, love, truth and passion.

#TouchTheSky

Touch the Sky is a m/m genre trope but this book was so much more than your standard romance. The biggest magnetic pull for me was how Ms. Lee and Ms. Dawn were able to tackle the sensitive subject of mental health with such grace by allowing readers to see beyond the flaws and imperfection. Together Lucas and Gabe complimented one another as they embarked on a journey from friends to lovers. Though this book did not give the happily ever after ending but it did give you the happily for now which I think was fitting for these two. It allowed readers like myself to believe in the power of hope and healing. Nothing in life is easy or an instant fix and so Ms. Lee and Ms. Dawn captured this sentiment beautifully. So if you are looking for a thought provoking romance that tackles a sensitive subject with raw honesty and love then I urge you to read Touch the Sky.

I have a thing for books that have characters with mental illnes. I think it gives people an idea of how it works and how strong these people can be.

Lucas and Gabriel met online when they were teenagers, they both had bad home lives so they found a safe place with each other. They had plans of meeting in LA and chase their dreams untill Gabriel disappeared without a word.

5 years later they are both in LA but they have different lives and neither is chasing their dreams. One change encounter and one punch later they talk and Gabriel explains what happened, he has bipolar dysorder and 5 years ago everything exploded. They start friendship again and their feelings for each other grow fast there's only one thing. gabriel hasn't taken his medication for 3 years and his moods are starting to get worse, this time he has Lucas on his side.

I loved both characters and I loved the story, it was beautiful and it wasn't overly angsty. Lucas was so strong and I loved how both characters had their own stories, the book wasn't solely focused on Gabriel and they both had things to overcome to finally start a new happy life. I love the epilogue, it gives you hope.

I can't wait for book two! I hope we see a little bit more of these guys in Conner's book. that was a surprise, it didn't expect Conner to have a book but I did liked him, he was an amazing friend.

Beautifully written and deeply moving, this new adult M/M story follows Gabriel and Lucas – two young, lost and lonely men – as they fall in love, while dealing with past hurts, future dreams and some emotionally intense mental health issues.

I would call this story angsty - in a powerfully evocative way that continually made my heart ache, but which ultimately left me feeling hopeful and so very satisfied.

The story deals with forms of mental illness, and although hard to read at times, it was expressed carefully, honestly, and, I believe, positively. It was more life affirming, than depressing and I loved the way the entire story was handled.

The authors should be proud of the poignant story they created here. I look forward to reading more stories within this series.

I liked this a lot. I've never read Christina Lee before, but I've read a number of Nyrae Dawn books and this has the same feel and writing style which I enjoy. The romance was very well done and actually better than I expected from the blurb. I probably didn't read the blurb properly but I hadn't realized the two boys hadn't met five years ago - they only had an online friendship - which was a little different. Mental illness is a big issue in this one and I thought it was handled well while, at the same time, not being too dark and angsty. What I liked the most was a theme that emerged near the end - that Gabriel needed to learn to be strong on his own, to be his own saviour. It makes me feel so much more confident in their future and HEA.

I actually lost interest in this one for a couple of weeks, and had to force myself to dive back in and finish it. Which is never a good sign. But...meh. It's okay. I'll never read it again, but it's okay.

Boring. Once the initial conflict is resolved, which happens pretty early, it's like... what now? I just wasn't interested in what happened after that. The writing is too over-the-top for me. Like, everything isn't the biggest deal ever, you know?

I need to stay away from Nyrae Dawn. I read one YA book by her a couple years ago that I really enjoyed so I keep thinking "maybe this one will be better" but everything I've read by her since that first one has been disappointing.

I was really looking forward to this emotional story but I hate to say it disappointed me. Maybe it's me, not you but I had a hard time getting Lucas and Gabriel a seperate voice in my head. I was constantly thinking in which head I was and I'm not sure why.
Also, the emotional tug...I didn't feel it.
Better luck next time!
