What an amazing book! It’s a story of the old west with Civil War, Indian villages filled with unrest; and, life in the high mountains where men, women and children struggled to live. As a child, Copper was the lone survivor of a wagon train; raised by Crow Indians into womanhood; and, suffered the harshest of life with a people who thought her fire-red hair gave her powerful medicine. This is the story-line of how she managed to live outside the village once she was on her own, banned from the only people she knew and had found a man, Tucker, near death. Beaten, wounded and left for dead, she used her knowledge, her spirit medicine and strength to help him heal. This author has made me literally “feel” the cold snow and harsh life in the mountains. Thanks for a great read!
Deborah Camp's characters, Copper Headed Woman and Tucker Jones, are so real, their actions and reactions so believable that I became completely immersed in their world. The adrenaline rush from a grizzly bear attack, the welcoming relief and joy from the birth of a healthy baby in a mountain cabin, and the coming together in strength and love of two battered but resilient souls made for a thoroughly amazing and unforgettable story!
This is an exciting and adventurous tale of two from opposite societies lives collide. Copper finds Tucker near death by Indians and Carrie’s him to her home to bring him back from deaths door. You will not want to put this story down and you will enjoy discovering how they overcome hate and fear to find their happily ever after.
I thought it was really good at first but the blatant Native American racism and white victimhood basically ruined the experience of reading this book. The main female character was a hypocrite and the guy was a fake nice guy.
Deborah Camp delivers another great story with great characters and a good storyline. My only negative comments are some things I found were not quite believable were the inconsistencies of how well stocked and well appointed her mountain cabin was for how isolated her cabin was and her command of English was too unbelievable for having been captured at such a young age. She was able to speak smoothly and too refined for a former captive. There were a lot more misspellings and other misused words than usual. Where was her editor??As a for a former editor, this lack of editing is very distracting.
