Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.

Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.

Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.

According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.

What a beautiful little story! I loved it... I read the first two books in this series as a child and recently discovered there are other books in the series too. Beautiful!

I prefer this book to the other I own in this series, 'The Pole Star Family'. In both books, not much happens over 96 pages, but this one has a little more story to it, if you know what I mean. Still not the greatest of Enid's books, but as I'm trying to read/reread her books at the moment I kept reading -shrug-

It’s the start of the school holidays and they’re off to Seagull Cove in a caravan. The perfect start to your summer holiday reading.

The fourth instalment of Blyton's "Family Series" of stories and this is an improvement over the last, THE POLE-STAR FAMILY. So far they've lived in caravans, gone on the canals and taken a cruise abroad, while this one simply sees them heading off to a beach holiday. The emphasis is on the usual sights and sounds and new experiences, building on what they've done previously, but conflict is added by the inclusion of an unhappy little boy in the mix which I found rather moving. It also gives Blyton the chance to look at the topics of religion and illness, which usually don't figure much in this kind of children's fiction.

This was my first novel that I ever read 🥹🥹

Ah such joys.

It had everything I really love. ( I wonder what came; first my live for the sea or reading my first novel about a sea side vacation). Caravan trip to the seaside. Eating fresh farm eggs. Still brings a smile to my face thinking about this book.

You never really forget your first. And THANK GOD my first was pretty perfect for me :)
