So this volume is mostly a training montage. As with the first volume, if you've already seen the movie, you won't be getting anything new out of this. Except maybe an image of luscious Kaede lips. I thought that was an odd panel, considering the tone of the rest of The Boy and the Beast.

In this volume, "Kyuta" grows up during the before-mentioned training montage. He finds his way back to Tokyo and meets the girl Kaede, who serves as teacher and cheerleader. Even in the movie, I felt like they wasted her potential as a character, and with the way the manga's following the movie so closely, I don't think they'll be doing much more with her.

This volume improved on the "action" scenes, so I guess that's something.

All in all, I think I'll stick with my opinion from my review of the first volume: you might as well just watch the movie.

I love the simplicity of this manga. The art and story are very minimal, but still hold a certain charm that keeps the reader interested. I have yet to see the movie (anime), but I feel with each volume that I read that I need to. I am excited to see what happens in the next volume.

Vinkkaukseen vitoskutosille. Selkeän kerronnan vuoksi sopii hyvin sisäänheittokirjaksi mangan lukemista aloitteleville ja mikä mukavinta, erityisesti pojille. Siitä napsahtakoon neljäs tähti.

Rating: pg for comic violence : fighting, mild profanity. No sex
Recommend: manga readers: mild

This seems to follow the pattern: nothing. Happens. Nothing.
But that seems to be part of the atttaction, so… it’s fine. Meh for me, but let’s keep reading and see what the rest of the series is like.

Still good, though this felt rushed. A lot is developing off-page. But that's ok.

I'm liking the way both the characters Kyuta and Kumatetsu have evolved. With his foray back into the human world, what complications will Kyuta encounter next?

Kyuta struggles to fit into his new role at Kumatetsu's disciple, which isn't easy. Especially when he gets beaten up by the other kids for being a human. And Kumatetsu isn't exactly the best teacher either, having no formal training himself.

Only by working together, do they finally begin to learn from each other and grow, both emotionally and physically. The characters grow up before our eyes in a heartwarming montage of years.

Then Kyuta rediscovers the human world.
