One moment, one mistake, changed Jolene Faraday's life forever. Devoted entirely now to bringing down the super villain known as Killjoy, she spends every waking moment working toward his downfall - and the rest of the time trying to come to terms with what her life has become.
Somebody's about to have a bad day...
Nightmares, guilt, and questions of her own morality notwithstanding, Jolene, A.K.A. Daystar, is becoming the hero she swore she'd be, and StrikeForce, under Portia's leadership, is earning a measure of respectability from friend and foe alike. That is, until questions about Jolene's involvement in a certain super villain's death come to light, along with increasing pressure for her to answer questions about her shadowy past.
All of it is background noise, a distraction from her hunt for Killjoy and his team. And when they threaten yet another person she cares for, Jolene becomes nothing less than Killjoy and company's worst nightmare.

All hale the super heroes folks! Or should I say enjoy a slice of life with the very human and complicated anti-heroes :-) Colleen Vanderlinden never ever fails to disappoint and Jolene hits her stride running in A Darkest Day. The team dynamics are beginning to flesh out and I feel like I am beginning to get to know everyone like old friends. The story takes up from where we left off and Jolene is often struggling to come to terms with the events of the last instalment, however she learns along with everyone else that life waits for no one and is determined to make a dent in the bad guy population of Detroit which she does with style. Some story arcs are further fleshed out and new themes are introduced - enough resolved and plenty of new openings to make me desperate to want to know what happens next anyway!
As ever this would not be a book by the wonderful Colleen Vanderlinden if we did not have our hearts in our mouths for at least part of the story and the action is completely awesome, you just never know which side is going to win the fight or what surprise is going to pop up next. With edge of your seat fight scenes, moments of not knowing whether to hug your book or throw it across the room, the characters are as always what drives the story along. Jolene is wonderful, there are times when I melted away with the joy, cried tears of sorrow and laughed my socks off. She feels like a best mate.
Holy cats, what a damn good read! Picking up where One More Day left off, Jolene Faraday, aka Daystar, is mourning the loss of her mother and directing her grieving with a vengeance towards those who have done her wrong. As if that weren’t bad enough, her enemies have laid out plans to hurt more of her new team in an effort to control Jolene. As if. This is a wild ride through Detroit as Jolene stretches the bounds - even for a superhero. Fortified by her team, we see StrikeForce become stronger as superheroes, as individuals, and as teammates.
Oh how I loved this book, Colleen Vanderlinden really topped the series with this third installment. It was well written, fast paced, and oh so divine. As great a job as she did with the action scenes, it was the interplay among the StrikeForce team members that stole the show for me. It was a great book and I can’t wait for the follow-up!
What can I say? Jo and the team are trying to bring down Mayhem, especially Killjoy. The tribunal is stepping in to finally bring Alpha to justice. Ryan!!! New partners. Justin. Karen? I like that this series is a down to earth comic. The characters are trying to fight the monsters without becoming the monster. I can't wait for the next installment.
Jolene and the Strikeforce team are back and kicking a$$! I couldn't this down once I started. Seriously loving Jenson more than ever. And Ryan...sigh.. Colleen Vanderlinden really knows how to draw readers into the story. You will go through all the emotions while reading - humor, sadness, pissed as hell... I can't get enough of this series!
Loved the latest installment in the lives of my favorite SFers! It was a page turner that I had the hardest time putting down. I wasn't ready for it to end. May can't get here soon enough!
According to the author, she has a dedicated team of beta readers. Unfortunately for the author, the beta readers are doing a piss-poor job of identifying the many gaping plot holes and several tons' worth of grammatical errors. Hence, what should have been, could have been, a great story, is merely mediocre.
Despite the above, which I am including in all my reviews of this series, the story is sufficiently intriguing to keep my attention. Yes, the narrative still reads like a block of Emmentaler, cheesy and full of holes, but some difficult stuff happens and I really, really wanted to know what was going to happen next.
This is a superhero comic book inspired series and I'm loving it. Jolene's mom is dead and she's not coping very well. in fact she's working herself to the bone. This was a good one. Jolene by the end of the book had a little more confidence and I don't know for sure but I think that the next book may be the last so some.things will be wrapping up.
