I am definitely not a Master Builder, so I found these projects aggressive. My son pointed out immediately that the ornaments require a lot of special pieces that he "probably doesn't have." Ummmmm...we have a kazillion Legos but I must agree there were pieces I've not seen or stepped on lately...namely the one with the string used to hang these things up. These designs are too challenging (or intimidating) for my crew. Nonetheless, I was impressed with the designs and that someone went through the work to create these ornaments. 3.5 stars

This book takes a good approach, starting with the simplest projects and moving on to the more complex ones. My favorites were the arcade game and the old-style computer. Also, most of the Lego pieces used in these creations don't appear to be too specialized, and the instructions seemed clear cut. There was one section of the book that featured a series of ornaments that all seemed to have the same basic shape. After a while, these particular ornaments all started to look alike. But eventually the book did move on.
Did I like it? Yes.
Would I reread it? Maybe.
Would I recommend it? Probably.

I love this concept, but there were a few key issues that lowers this rating. First, all of these designs require speciality Lego pieces that almost no Lego builder this book appeals to will have. There's also no explanation on how to obtain these speciality pieces. While it might be possible to work around some of them, all of the "hooks" to hang the ornaments are speciality pieces and some of the designs would be very challenging to hand another way.

In addition to obtaining the "hooks," one style of hook doesn't look very secure. I worry it would easily pull through. Also, the Christmas tree has no hook, nor a great way to add one on.

Lastly, five out of the fifteen designs are lacking. Essentially, all the geometric designs are the same thing, with minor changes. I found this disappointing. Even the snowflake and poinsetta have enough overlap that an intermediate builder could probably make one off the other without the instructions.

Overall, the instructions are clear and these designs appriopriate for beginner to experienced Lego builder. There isn't much the intermediate Lego builder would find interesting and this might be a bit frustrating for a first time Lego builder or a very young Lego builder.

Skimmed through the designs and instructions on 2/27/2019. Plan to build two designs: Christmas tree and Gingerbread house.

Not included in 2019 Reading Challenge total as did not review each design in sufficient detail to justify inclusion.

I'm not a bad review writer, this book disappointed my 4YO. We looked for these pieces in my older kid's years of Lego collections, found very few from sets.
Looked up online too!!! ahh!!! I wish atleast one of them would show up right with the code mentioned for each piece.

Hilarious it may seem, after all efforts from husband's side too, he concluded that these are not built from Lego, they are duplicate lego.
It would be great if the publishers stopped misusing the word Lego.
Also, I tried the 1st project "poinsettia", there is no way you can turn it around, it goes straight, taking a curve to make it look like a circle is impossible.!!!!!

I don't give up so quick, the last thing I'm doing is taking this book to the lego store and ask for help.

Will update soon!!!

Bought this book thinking it would be an excellent Christmas craft for my grandkids. I have bins of Legos. I had only 3 Lego pieces of any required in the book to make any of ornaments shown. I went to the Disney Springs Lego store, intending to purchase pieces, and they had none of the pieces. Gave the book to a grandson, hoping he had more current pieces than grandma.

I thought this book would be fun, but it seems that there are a lot of pieces that have been retired. I guess you could track them down online from other retailers, but I feel this would have been better if all the pieces listed were available at the time of publication.

Cute ideas though! And I really liked the parts guide; it was super helpful with searching for the parts.

I read these out of order which is too bad because book two is way better. I’m still impressed by how difficult the items look to make and how the step by step instructions make them seem easy. There are a lot of overlaps though, patterns that are changed fractionally with different colors to be a different thing. For example, the poinsettia and the snowflake are almost identical and the wreath is basically the same but with circles instead of squares. But I wouldn’t have thought of that so it’s still creative. There were only a couple I didn’t like. The rest I would hang on my tree or set out for people to see. The camera is the most impressive to me. I hope the author writes more books.

Beautiful photos, and designs made with largely available pieces. I just wish there was more than 15 designs!

The designs are adorable, but I am unable to make a single one using the 10,000ish Lego bricks that I own, even if I substituted random colours. Uses a lot of odd pieces, and Technic pieces. :(

I saw this book at BEA (Book Expo America) last year and was intrigued by the idea. Thought it might be a good gift for my niece, who loves Legos, but wanted to check it out first, so I borrowed a copy from the library.
Despite the page count, the book only has 15 projects, with two steps on each page. Most are classic Christmas ornaments, but there are a few random items--camera, hamburger, etc.
It's an unauthorized book, but as with a Lego kit, it starts with a chart of the pieces you'll need, and the author even includes the piece numbers (turns out every Lego piece has a code number). There's a really cute Lego gingerbread house, so I thought I'd try it out. I've accumulated a bin of assorted Legos, but I quickly discovered I didn't have the right pieces.
I wondered how much it would cost to order the pieces from Lego (you can order individual pieces). Unfortunately, only about 20 of the 30 required pieces are available for sale. The missing ones are the unique pieces that most people are unlikely to have. I checked one of the basic ornaments--seems you can't buy the piece you use to hang ornaments from a tree.
It is a good concept, well-produced, and might be used to spark some ideas. But it really can't be used as the step-by-step guide it's meant to be unless you have a huge assortment of well-organized Legos. After reading another reader's review, I learned these instructions are available for free on the author's website where he sells kits that include the pieces you need at a mark up. I'm not adverse to the mark up, because it covers the author's time, effort and creativity in designing the models, creating instructions, in some instances creating custom pieces, purchasing and assembling the kits. But the kits for most of the items in this book are no longer available on his site, and if the only way someone who bought the book can actually make the items is to purchase the kit from the author, and the author charges around $25 and up per kit and provides the instructions, this book is rendered moot.

Children love to create things and show off their creations. I remember when my daughter was younger she loved to make her own Christmas ornaments out of paper. Of course they didn't last long.
Lego's are a childhood classic toy, everyone remembers playing with Lego's as a child. This book shows you how to make different Christmas ornaments out of your Lego's. This is not only fun and unique, it's a great family activity.
Lego ornaments are a good idea for a tree in a child's bedroom or playroom. This way they can move the ornaments around and you don't have to worry about them breaking the precious family heirloom ones by accident.
Lego Christmas Ornament book makes a great gift for any Lego fan, especially when you are unsure of which sets they already have.

A great resource for those who work with teens. I think some of the projects would be frustrating for younger children unless you set every piece out for them. My 16 year old page was really excited when I got this in!

Good instructions and cute designs, but I don't recognise many of the pieces.
