A comprehensive account of Muslim history and Islamic theological developments that shaped Islamic laws and society for centuries. The most important section of this book, to my mind, was that in which the writer has explained the era of civil wars within the Islamic community which began immediately after the demise of the second caliph, Hazrat Umar r.a. And from that era to onward, the writer has beautifully described how and why the Islamic community or empire became a victim of division which resultantly led it to decline.
The book is highly recommended for those who have a curiosity for knowing about Islamic history, its development i.e., social, political and, above all, for those who want to know what caused it to get stuck in the prolonged civil wars which ended up with its decline.
The people who can understand Urdu can watch my Vlog in which I have explained the events from the very beginning which are the reasons behind Muslims' present sorrowful condition.

Solid textbook about Islam in a historical perspective that helped me get a more panoramic view of the religion. It's a view that emphasizes Islam's multifarious nature, and reminding me of the many parallels in the history of Christianity. Well worth the read! Too bad it was written before the Arab Spring. It would have been interesting to see how the author would have approached those events.
