Interessante Zusammenstellung mit sehr schönen, meist historischen Abbildungen.
Allerdings scheint die Auswahl der Infos zu den einzelnen Pflanzen oft wilkürlich.

Etliche der Sätze sind entweder von der Sprache oder von der Aussage her grenzwertig;
ob das im Original auch so ist? Keine Ahnung; es gibt aber eine ganze Reihe Druckfehler.

"Obwohl Larix eine relativ kleine Gattung von etwa einem Dutzend Arten ist, sind die Bäume recht groß (30-50 m) und wachsen schnell." (S. 166) - Häh?
"Der große, abgegrenzte kalifornische Küstenstreifen ist wahrscheinlich das Überbleibsel einer einst weiter verbreiteten Population." (S. 168) - ?????

Bitkilerin dünyasıyla ilgili mükemmel bir referans kitabı. Yazarlar kitabı derlerken yüzlerce yıllık geçmişe sahip birçok kaynaktan yararlanmışlar. Kitap sayfalarında değerli çizimler incelenebilir. Modern tarımı anlamak, tıbbi, dini, endüstriyel ve daha bir çok başlık altında bitkilerin günümüz dünyasını nasıl şekillendirdiğini tek bir kaynakta inceleyebilmek harika!

Lakin, Türkçe okuduğuma çok pişmanım! Bu kitabın çevirisi kötü yapılmış. Çok mekanik bir çeviri, yazarların hikayeleştirdiği, yorumladığı bölümlerde çok fazla kopukluk yaratıyor ve dikkat dağıtıcı oluyor. Aslında akıcı bir okuma işkenceye dönüşüyor.

Bir de çeviri bağımsız olarak, başlık başlık ele alınmış konuların kronolojik olarak ya da alt başlıklarla özellik sıralaması yapılsaydı benim için daha kalıcı olacaktı. Farklı paragraflarda mekik gibi gidip geldiğimi, oradan bir başka yere dolandığımı hissettim.

A fascinating journey discovering all the plants that feed, clothe, amuse, intoxicate and cure humans. It is beautifully written, with lots of references and quotes from ancient books or explorers and botanists, and it comes with gracious watercolor old drawings that give the whole book a unique charme. It is incredible to learn how many plants that we give for granted work...did you know that vanilla is a seed coming from a orchid?

Loved it!!! A bit wordy as far as vocabulary goes, which is actually not a bad thing. I loved learning about the plants around us and their origins. Definitely makes great dinner party chit chat.

Gerek illüstrasyonlarıyla gerek bitkilerin tarihi önemine işaret edilen bilgileriyle beni büyüleyen kitaplardandı. Biraz daha detaylandırılabilirdi elbet.
