Gorgeous, dangerous Rhode changed Lenah into a vampire. For hundreds of years, they lived a life of seduction, blood and destruction. Five centuries later, Rhode made Lenah human - and happy - again. The price was eternal separation of the two soulmates, with only Lenah remembering the intensity of their shared love. At first Lenah can just about cope with having Rhode nearby and him not recognising her. But when a wounded creature from their past threatens the new life that Lenah has struggled to build, she realises that only the ultimate love she and Rhode shared can conquer the creature's ultimate evil. Yet Lenah knows too that revealing their past could destroy not only their lives, but Rhode's very soul . . . The heart-racing sequel to Infinite Days and Stolen Night.
Rebecca Maizel hails from Rhode Island, where she teaches high school literature at her alma mater the Wheeler School. She tries not to force her students to read her books, though. Rebecca is the author of several published novels for young adults, and recently achieved an MFA in Writing for Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She also enjoys Indian food, her dog Georgie, and running moderately long distances.
So much has changed for Lenah since she first became human. After the events in Stolen Night, Lenah sacrificed everything for the people she loves including Rhode – her soulmate – in order to stop the vampire plague by leaving the twenty-first century. But when news comes to her that her ex-boyfriend – who is now a vampire – is ruling the vampire world with an iron fist and is willing to do anything to get Lenah back, Lenah has no other choice but return to the world she loves to help her friends who no longer remember her. But she knows she must do it without endangering them once again. But when Justin holds Rhode captive, Lenah can’t wait any longer, she must take the fight to Justin to save her soul mate.
Eternal Dawn is a fantastic conclusion to Lenah and Rhode’s journey! If you’d had asked me to predict how this series ends, it certainly wouldn’t have been this just because it was completely impossible to predict anything about this series. It’s heart-pounding, exciting and such a gripping read that I can’t see anyone disappointed with how the series ends.
Lenah is such a complex character that it’s fascinating to get to know her. I loved her from the start of the series and I love how much she’s grown. Even as a vampire there was always just something about Lenah that makes you root for her. Now she’s human, you can’t help root for her even more. She’s selfless, kind, and loves fiercely. And I adore the relationship she has with Rhode. Even though I loved Justin too, I just feel as though Lenah and Rhode are meant to be. Not matter the events in their lives that force them apart, they always manage to find their way back to one another. It’s amazing to read.
What surprised me most about this instalment was seeing all the familiar faces but, one character in particular who I never thought I’d see again but did. This book just wouldn’t have been the same without him. I really enjoyed the whole plot of the story – I was hoping for some redemption or saving for one character but I guess you can’t have everything. Still it was a great read and I’m glad I stuck with the series to the end.
In all, Rebecca Maizel proves that vampire stories can still be a hit with Eternal Dawn and even though I’m sad to see this series end I think it was the best possible ending.
Thank you to Macmillian Children's Books for giving me the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was basically me while reading this book. The villain was ehhhh, almost as annoying as the blond vampire from book two. I just couldn't believe someone would change so drastically because they got dumped. His life would be all about lacrosse and other girls but he chose a different path. Move on with your life, man! There are plenty fish in the sea. Just because you fell in love with a girl who's still hung up on her ex doesn't mean your life is over. You are still in high school for fuck's sake!
What a beautiful conclusion to one of my favorite series!
At the end of Stolen Nights, Lenah thought her sacrifice – her separation from Rhode and her departure from the twenty-first century – would be enough. In Eternal Dawn, she found that things weren’t moving in a merry direction and her twenty-first-century-friends were in huge trouble. Could she help to make things right for her friends?
It was great to see Lenah reunited with her friends. I was particularly surprised by an old face that I thought I’d never see again, and I loved how Lenah chose to be honest and share what she knew upfront with her friends in this installment. She surely had grown up a lot in this series! No longer pettish, she earned respect from those who were wise (and powerful) and I was happy that she got to be reacquainted with Rhode.
Rhode seemed a bit more boyish in this installment. Probably because he had no memory of his past, he seemed less experienced. While his nature as a warrior had never changed, he was less sure of what he could do when he was being thrown into the midst of chaos and violence. I liked that he was still noble but it’s a little disconcerting to see him in a helpless state when he was being taken as hostage.
I’d never liked Justin but still, I was pretty shocked when I discovered how evil he’d become. I guess I’d never assumed him being capable of brutal torture and killing. Anyway, don’t say I didn’t warn you, as he was the evil of all evils here.
Events from the past were weaved into the story to give us a better picture of why things were what they were in this installment but I did have to look up a few things from the previous books to refresh my memory.
Overall, I loved Eternal Dawn. And I’d recommend this series to all vampire fans.
HOLY FUCK WHY IS THERE A THIRD BOOK. No no no no no. NO. NO. NOOOOOOOOO.
edit (2/8/15): Okay, I'm going to do it. I'm finally going to read Eternal Dawn. After I reread the first two books--but I'm finally going to do it! Lord please help me survive this.
Edit (4/26/15): i was afraid things were going to get effed up here in the third book. In a way, that's exactly what happened. The ending of the second book had a bittersweet ending to it, and I still believe that the author should have left it to that. But to have pulled Lenah back to present, and to have made Justin the ultimate bad guy? Dude, no. You're just seriously screwing up with my feelings.
I will always like the Rhode and Lenah part of this trilogy, but I did not like anything that transpired in this last book. At all.
First off, I'll never get over how profound the writing can get in these books. They belong to the YA genre but there is such an in depth look into the main characters that they feel so much older.
There was a new twist to vampires in this novel and a new set of kinda magical lore introuduced. Unexpected, but it worked.
My babies Lenah and Rhode finally got their happily ever after and I loved it. They had suffered so much and I felt it aged them, their trials, but I feel like the endING gives them a fresh start. So much love there!
I liked how life and death are examined in this book. It has rough moments but it's like life, not everything can be perfect, if not the story would be boring to read.
Besides Rhode and Lenah. I felt like I grew to love Tracy more. I wish I could read more about her. She went from a mean girl, to a great young woman, who was really tough and resolved.
Justin was awful. Bye felicia to his character. Became a ruthless villain.
Pre-reading: After almost two years, I'll be able to read the final book *-* CAN'T WAIT!! After reading: This book was perfect. I loved it but I'm sad because the series is over now. I've been hooked on this story for three years and I can see how much the characters have grown up with me. I also felt bad for Justin, since I remembered him of Infinite Days and I was like "he is no longer the sweety lacrosse player we once knew". I was scared in case the series ended badly, but I shouldn't have been afraid. For me, personally, the ending was great. And what about Tracy? I hated her in the beginning but I love her with a passion now. There should be more stories of the Vampire Queen :)
2.5 stars. I wouldn't say the book was bad. However throughout the process of reading it, I found myself mildly -and sometimes immensely- irritated not just by Lenah, but by the author's way of describing some particular scenes, emotions, etc. There were some plot changes that were just... let's just say I'm glad I'm done with this trilogy and can move on to something new. I don't know why this has been happening to me lately; being slightly let down or disappointed by the last book in a series I loved years ago when I was younger (e.g., House of Night). Probably my perspective changing as I'm growing older or something.
I loved Justine in the first book! I'm totally crushed by what RM has done to him here. It's not fair to have used him that way! He was a good and honest character in the first book! He loved Lenah and she loved him back! RM completely tore him down and made him evil! I just can't take it!! So mad! I'm throwing the whole series into the trash bin! What a pile of junk!
3.5/5 A little bit disappointed by this conclusion, I hoped more romantic scenes between Lenah and Rhode, and the switch vampire / human / vampire is annoying. I'm heartbroken for Justin, I loved the character in book one...
What a beautiful conclusion to the wonderful Vampire Queen series. Wow, I really enjoyed this one. Full of surprises and things I didn't suspect. I really liked the combination between the old characters and new ones. And yes, I cried at the ending. It was so beautiful.
JUSTIN DESERVES BETTER
I enjoyed this series and was excited about the final book. The beginning was strange and straight to the point with her going straight back to modern world almost immediately which could of been more of a prolog
I thought the idea was interesting with the villian being Justin and I enjoyed the strategy with the coven. But I was disappointed by the ending I think Tracey becoming a vampire was a waste and should of been done earlier just shoved at the end
Also it went we have a cure, we are in love again and then the main two characters abandoned the rest of the survivors. which I thought maybe they should of stayed and helped protect the school
but overall it was well written, engaging and a good ending in a fashion
I enjoyed this one most out of the 3. Book 2 and 3 were so much better than one. I did find bits confusing especially "parallel universe" she was more time travelling I thought but always described as another world. It was a great story and quite twisty, really liked how love was twisted and Justin's love, jealousy and thirst for popularity and power made him the worst villain of all. I liked how it ended too, couldn't think of a better ending for it.
All I can say is that I love this trilogy. I love the worked created, the characters, the arcs, the writing. Everything. This last one is the weakest out of the 3 but I didn’t even care. I still enjoyed the heck out of it!
Maizel made a total twist of the vampire concept and the way she writes about Lenah's feelings makes you feel like part of their world and pain...just love the trilogy!!
