This is book three of the trilogy and the author wraps up the story in a good fashion. At the beginning of the book I had a bit of a problem placing which series this was and arranging the correct characters in this series, but I did manage to get it all straight in the first quarter of the book. In this trilogy Nuttall’s narrative threads a classic Roman antiquity into the story which for history buffs like me is fantastic.
Our protagonist Roman Garibaldi is leading an alliance of naval officers, rebels and alien outsiders. They are heading to earth in hopes of saving the Federation from its mad Emperor. Like in the other stories there are pirates, war lords and others seeking power and a piece of the Federation. This is a civil war so the suspense builds as we learn who aligns their allegiance to which side in the war. And of course we end with a mighty battle.
The book is well written with action galore. Nuttall writes a good space battle. I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. Tim Gerard Reynolds does a good job narrating the book. Reynolds was born in Ireland, lives in New York City and is a stage actor who is now a full time audiobook narrator.

I enjoyed the first book.
The second was meh.
The third was actually hard to read, I often would be thinking "isn't there anything better to read?"
My enjoyment shifted as the main characters attitude changed through the books. The author tried to turn a hero into a villain, but the shift was poorly done. I think it happened too fast and with too little explanation, which caused me to lost interest. Ideally, the book would transform the feeling I already had for the character, I'd feel hate instead of love, disgust instead of admiration, etc. But I felt nothing, just indifference for the characters and the story.

The Barbarian Bride Review
Christopher, such an excellent story and points out very forcefully the failings of human nature i. e. greed, pride, etc. We (the USA) are indeed headed in the same direction as the Roman empire. If we followed Jesus, we would have a chance: however, since we are in the process of forcing God out of our world, we are doomed to failure and are committing suicide - what a shocking situation! Thanks for pointing out our humanity so strongly but I don't believe anyone cares (or those that do are in the minority and being told to shut up). I highly recommend reading this series to anyone interested in reading an excellent and exciting story (adult reading). Thanks for the entertainment!

An amazing ending to an epic, and a strong political commentary
Christopher has written an amazing and somewhat surprising--as novels go--epic in three volumes. Surprising in that the fate of humanity's Federation is a bit of a surprise, although not so in retrospect.
It was another gripping page turner, as well! I highly enjoyed the tale, and I was astonished at how it made me think and reflect on today's world, particularly in his Afterword. In fact, the books are worth buying not only for their great entertainment value, but also just to read his afterwords!

3 books in this series ( so far) I think it still has legs
Very good reads all three books ,power corrupts most people but not all and this is a very interesting story along this line

This epoch series finishes with excitement and irony as the story of how the Galactic Empire falls. Political maneuvering, back-stabbing, and great battles are well weaved together to complete a very satisfying series.
