People Games: The Most Common Mind Games and Power Plays That People Play

Rate this book
JUST THE SECOND, EXPANDED EDITION OF "PEOPLE GAMES"!

"Man is free the moment he wishes to be". -Voltaire

In dealing and communicating with other people, we often fall prey to their power plays and mind games. Realize We are constantly under siege by the manipulations and machinations of other people. We must learn to see the world as it is rather than how we would like it to if we want to be "free".

PEOPLE GAMES is a non-technical, easy-to-read guide (yes, easier than "Games People Play") to help you recognize when you are being manipulated by others in your social, family, business, or work interactions. We can be free from other people's power plays and mind games if we wish to be, and if we train ourselves to RECOGNIZE them.

A “power play” is a maneuver, usually verbal, that is used by a person to (i) manipulate another person to do something or (ii) avoid giving the other person what they want.

This book will teach you how to RECOGNIZE such power plays being used against you, especially the most commonly used ones by other people, and also how to RESPOND to and DEFLECT such power plays.

You will learn how to extricate yourself from secret ploys, unclear motives, and shady maneuvers used by other people, and structure your interactions so that they are no longer clouded by such undesirable things.

In doing so, you will be able to protect your personal boundaries, move towards more open and honest communication with other people, and protect your own best interests.

Some of the power plays and mind games covered in People Games  -Dominance/Submission -Emotional Blackmail -You Owe Me -Playing the Victim

...and more!

NEVER BE MANIPULATED BY OTHER PEOPLE AGAIN!

This book was a good book; it enlightened me on the power games that people try to play on a daily basis. Because of this book, I can say that I take great pleasure in calling people out on their BS.

Underwhelmed. Very repetitive and badly written. The content is not bad but could have been reduced to a postcard or possibly a Hallmark greeting card.

Quick and Simple

I knew he was a lawyer before he said so. This is a good start to understanding the bare bones of manipulative people. Just a note that you need to be careful whom you call out and when. Some personalities that play these games may seem rational. But they can be dangerous. None of the call out techniques will work, for instance, with a person who has narcissistic tendencies, or who are hiding a love of cruelty. Calling these people out will most likely backfire and may leave you as the subject of a smear campaign, or at risk of losing a whole lot. With people like that, extrication is the best option.

as you read you think of people that have used power plays on you

Good and short read, it helps to identify the power plays and create awareness. We all use them, I think the biggest thing is give and take, parents especially love manipulating their children even at the adult age, just be mindful of these games and do you.

Lazily written, boring read.

Even putting aside the continuous spelling errors, the book seemed unprofessional, with unneeded capitalization for emphasis and repetitive words such as "basically." It felt as if I was reading a rough draft.

I listened to this book because my boyfriend is always accusing me of playing games but I really never have tried to be, and now believe that’s him projecting.

It's short, so it's not a big waste of time. I felt like I was reading a long cosmopolitan article from a bullied person. Not sure how it ended in my ebook but not excited to add it in me read list...

We ALL Play The Game

In a short story long/long story short. We all fall victim to this book in one way or another, however, it has opened my eyes and made me more conscious to the power plays happening to and around me.

Short but good reminders

“You don't need someone's permission to do what you want to do in life.”

“Give up guilt, obligation, or fear of being seen as selfish as guiding emotions for your life.”

Good however a lot is really common sense so there wasn’t really much new material for me.

Slightly basic

Expected more intricate scenarios but the examples are broad strokes instead. Not a bad book for someone who is in their early twenties

Well Worth the Time

This book was just what I needed. Over the course of my life, I have encountered many people who left me hurt and scratching my head trying to figure out what in the world had happened. This book has helped to answer my questions. I now feel better prepared to identify and deal with the manipulation of others.

Not a bad little book. It highlights powerplays and types of manipulation people can and do use. I learned from the information and am interested in his other books.
