“We can fight them. They think they're untouchable, but they're not. We can get to them and we can make them pay for everything they did to us!”
Five years after it was born in a patch of mud, the town of Steadfall is slowly getting stronger. As she tries to retain control, however, Asher finds that her authority is being whittled away. Just when she thinks she might lose the town entirely, three strangers arrive and offer to help. One in particular, a man named Harold, seems to understand exactly what Asher needs. Unfortunately, his help comes at a terrible cost.
Meanwhile, Iris has left town and set out to explore the island, searching for a lost town that supposedly pre-dates Steadfall. What she finds, however, is a chilling reminder of the island's savagery, and a warning that more horror is to come. Soon, the residents of Steadfall find themselves fighting for their lives, while Asher starts to experience terrifying glimpses of the past that was wiped from her mind.
Persona is the second book in the Island series, about a group of people who fled the modern world and sought refuge in a wild and savage land.
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
It took me ages to get into this one only speeding up once reaching the last fifth of the book. Not sure I'll continue with the story. Quite a few typos in my kindle version.
Another great installment of this series, where Iris and Asher face the horrors of the island. Great characters, both good and bad, that make for a compelling read...what's going to happen to them?
It's a fast-paced story, filled with action and terror - who to trust, what is the island really about? And what are those secrets about the war?
I don't give spoilers, so it's not easy to say much, but this series is thought-provoking and mysterious, and certainly a page turner.
I hope it's not too long before book three - I also hope it has a proper 'ending' and not left hanging like Mass Extinction Event (another fabulous post-apocalyptic /dystopian series).
gosh, so many questions. Why?? Why was the government interfering? Why did I expect anything else? Why destroy the island now?? How did Harold finagle his way to where he was at? Especially if he was telling the truth? (but really tho, does anyone tell the truth?) How is Logan involved? How far up in the government IS that guy? AND what is he doing with Della?? (we didn't hear anything of her in this book, so I assume he still has her?)
I really blew through this book, it was a good sequel! The characters grew a lot in this book, I found myself liking Iris a lot more, and we learned a lot more about Asher. The story continued to be interesting and disgusting (Walter's soup....gah. horrific) And I constantly wait for Steadfall to fall...I thought it happened in the end of this book....but I was wrong, again. lol.
Asher is a badass...so is Iris. On to the next book! :)

I read this Book straight after the first one in the Series, The Island ..
Although this isn't my usual chosen genre, there was enough interest in the main characters in the first book that I wanted to find out what happened to them .. how they are all surviving with only one tunic each and no tools or medical supplies is hard to get your head around, but sometimes with these stories just going with it is the best option ..
This part contains less gory descriptions, but it is a violent story none the less, as we meet up with our heros after five years living in Steadfall .. We join them as their lives are being disrupted by outside sources ..
Again, enough questions for me to want to read Book 3 .. mainly, where is Della ??
Loved this book as much as the first. The story did not lose or struggle to keep the content thrilling like the first book. Developed really well and now going to read the third book. A great collection of books.
The book continued on from the first island book It links up well and every so often another piece of the puzzle Fits into place. Can't wait for next book
I love Amy Cross' writing style, it never fails to completely suck my attention in. I always end up starting one of her books, only to end yp spending the day or two neglecting the rest of the world in its entirety until I'm sure that I know what's going to happen. One of the few authors left who can still surprise me & come up with truly original ideas, I always love that she makes sequels to my favorites, too. Can't wait for the next one in the Island series!
