Dave Ulrich does a phenomenal job connecting HR competencies with strategic business direction in this book. This is one of the best HR books I have read and I highly recommend it.
The most impactful part of the book for me is being a Credible Activist as an HR leader. It is the difference between being a player or being a spectator. High performers are players because they are at the table influencing and impacting business decisions.
HR's critical role is to secure superior talent and to develop the next generation of leaders. Ulrich focuses on the six B's of talent: Buy, Build, Bound, Borrow, Bounce and Bind.
I highly recommend this book for those in Human Resources or for leaders who want to improve their focus and results regarding talent.
Good book, I enjoyed all the data. Felt like they were often trying to make out that small differences in the data were much more significant than the numbers suggested. But overall I enjoyed the first 60% very much
Comprehensive look at the balance HR professionals must make between people and business. The twenty-year study culminates in an excellent model for building or developing capability in six competencies, including: Credible Activist, Operational Executor, Business Ally, Talent MGR/ORG Designer, Culture & Change Steward, and Strategy Architect.
