Good book. I haven't read any of the previous Faces of Evil books, but there was enough background information that I wasn't lost. Clint is part of a new PI firm, and his first case involves a woman who appears to have some mental issues. Two years earlier, Natalie had suffered a fall in her home, leaving her with a traumatic brain injury. She has mostly recovered, but she has some large gaps in her memory and may also be hallucinating. She is certain that she shot an intruder in her home, but there's no body, no gun, and the police don't believe her. So she has come to Clint for help.

Though a little skeptical at first, Clint is soon convinced that, not only did she shoot someone, there is something deeper going on. When someone tries to kill her by tampering with her car, Clint's protective instincts are roused and he is determined to keep her safe. The only problem he has is in not falling for her while he does it.

I liked the relationship that grew between them. Clint is protective, but also very admiring of how far she has come in her recovery from her injury. Unlike her family members and coworkers, he believes that she is far more capable than she thinks she is. The admiration turns deeper as his attraction to her also grows, but he believes that he is no good for her. Natalie believes that any relationship is out of the question for her because of her memory issues and other effects of her fall. But Clint's unwavering belief in her story and in her recovery have her dreaming of what could be. She's been fighting hard for her independence, but she finds it easy to lean on Clint for support. Though he tries to tell her that her feelings are a result of what is happening, she knows it's much more. I loved the ending as she goes after what she wants.

The suspense was really good. Natalie's fears about the voices she was hearing were very real, as was her confusion over the events of the shooting. I loved the fact that Clint believed her. Trying to find out the truth was made more difficult by Natalie's memory loss. As they uncovered little bits of information, the puzzle became a little clearer, but there were still gaps. There were a couple people who looked like they were the most likely suspects. Natalie was determined to go to any lengths to unlock her memories, and once she did the race was on to get the evidence she needed. The final confrontation was intense with a player I didn't expect showing up.

Although I have not read the Faces of Eve series, I have read other books by Debra Webb and was looking forward to reading this book. I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the pace of this story, it really kept me glued to the book and I didn't want to stop reading. I really, really needed a book that would pull me in and this one did. The suspense elements of the story were done well and I truly liked the plot.

Clint has just started working for Jess and Buddy's new PI firm and Natalie becomes his first client. The story centers on Clint and Natalie and the cast from the prior Faces of Eve series aren't really part of the story. Natalie thought she shot a burglar in her house, but the police didn't find a body, any blood or the gun she said she used. Since she is still deemed as recovering from a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), they basically don't give her story any credence. She decides to hire a PI to determine whether or not she shot a person. While everyone is doubting her and treating her with kid gloves, Clint is looking into her story and other issues he has started picking up on. I really liked the way that Clint believed in her and let her regain her confidence in herself. I also liked how she looked past his past and saw more than a handsome face (although he had that too). The story moved well and was really interesting.

I loved the following quote from Clint:

"Clint never understood anyone's desire to keep secrets as a means to protect the innocent. The innocent did just fine when secrets were revealed. It was the guilty who didn't fare so well." 77% 1760 of 2300

Although the suspense story with Clint and Natalie was really good there were a few items that I felt were distracting to the primary plot. I liked the set-up of Buddy and Jess and the new PI firm but I didn't feel it was integrated well into the book. They make a brief appearance at the front and back end of the book, but other than that they seemed conspicuously absent. I didn't miss them, but it definitely felt like a disconnect to me. There also were a number of names thrown out here and there that meant nothing to me, but were perhaps updates of past characters. When this occurred it didn't feel like part of the story and felt more like faceless names thrown in without any relationship to the plot.

With the exception of the inclusion of too many unrelated/unknown characters, I really liked this book - the plot, the characters, the suspense. I was totally pulled in and didn't want to stop reading. I can't wait for the next book and have it on my TBR list.

I have read several of the Faces of Evil books. In addition, to other books by this author. Thus the reason I wanted to read this latest book. While I enjoyed this book I was not in love with it. Although, this book was right in line with this line of books from Harlequin. Which, I have been a fan of on and off again for a long while.

I liked that both Clint and Natalie were not perfect. They both needed each other and in the end, they helped heal one another. There were not a lot of surprises for me when it came to reading this book. Yet, I did appreciate the author's writing, the characters, and storyline. This is a pretty, quick read. Also, a nice introduction to this author. Although, again some of the other books in this series showcase the author's talent better. However, I am still a fan.

I enjoy reading any book written by Debra Webb and this one is no exception.

Natalie was a good lawyer on her way to becoming partner at her law firm. She was working on a big case. Then she fell down a flight of steps and suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Now her memory is all jumbled. She thinks she hears whispers. No she thinks she has killed a man but while waiting for the police he disappears without a trace. She hires a Private Investigator to help her find out what really is going on.

Eerie and thrilling, intriguing tale with culprits so close to home you would never want to suspect them for the crimes committed.
I liked how the story started with the connection to the 'mother series' this is a spinoff from. The unexpected point of view and the history to start the PI firm nicely gave new readers the background information they needed to start on the series.
The puzzle Natalie and Clint are putting together is not only nearly impossible to solve because of her memory loss, but it seems that the key players keep ending up dead. That creates an intense atmosphere, and with every single clue the person behind the mystery comes closer to home. So many events are connecting, and the evil, deadly force coming closer to Natalie. I admit I had chills at one point while reading this. The energy is vivid, the violence is harsh, and the 'whodunnit' isn't clear to the reader because of the multiple possibilities that just keeps accumulating as the story goes on.
Natalie's memory issue is cleverly done,it is believable, real, scary, and the worst nightmare most has at one time of their lives, 'what if I forget who I am one day'?!
The romance stays in the background, as Natalie and Clint are focused on finding the keys to the mystery and to keep Natalie alive. But the feelings between them are credible and evident, the attraction detectable, their desire to each other palpable.
I enjoyed the foundation that was created to the new series, the characters piqued my interest, and I'm looking forward to more to come in the series. Fascinating and entertaining suspense mixed with charming, appealing romance

Debra Webb’s Faces of Evil series is one of my all-time favorites. She managed to ratchet up the suspense with each installment and keep the reader engaged with a long-term plotline and consistent characters. With her newest Intrigue for Harlequin she takes the series and pushes it somewhere new, with great success. Clint Hayes was always one of my favorite secondary characters in the FoE series. Even though I didn’t trust him at first, Webb redeemed him over the course of the series. He is the perfect choice for the first book in this new series. He completely deserves his own HEA. Natalie is his perfect match, even as the survivor of a Traumatic Brain Injury. Natalie’s life was put on hold two years earlier when she suffered a near life ending fall down the stairs. Now the events of two years ago are resurfacing to endanger her life once again. Clint is one of the few that believes her and agrees to protect her while they find the truth.

There are enough cameos from the FoE team to make long-time readers happy. Those new to the world will find Webb’s world building in-depth and will easily move into the series. Much like the Colby series, the FoE looks to last a good long time, much to reader’s delight.

Copy received from the author in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 Stars. This series is an offshoot of Webb's very good "Faces of Evil" series. Nice suspense story, mysterious with a touch of gothic. It's always fun with Webb's books to read about places around Birmingham I recognize or know well. I haven't read a book that does Birmingham so well since the old 'Southern Sisters' mysteries where Patricia lived in Homewood under the moon of Vulcan's butt.

The story was really good throughout, but wrapped up a bit too quickly and tidily at the end due the page limitations of category romance.

What a great spin and addition to the Faces of Evil characters. I loved the direction that Debra Webb took. I was sucked right back into this world she created. I loved seeing what my favorite characters were up to.

I have to say I didn't figure out the story either. I'm really looking into what the future holds in this series...what a great idea to pull some of the characters to be private investigators. God knows Buddy will keep them hopping. Cannot wait for more...

I really enjoyed this book. The suspense was really good. There were a lot of suspects that kept me guessing who was behind it all. Natalie had falling down a flight of stairs. She spent a lot of time in the hospital because of the TBI she got during the fall. She still struggles with her memory loss. Someone broke into her home, and she shot him with her dad’s gun. She ran outside and called 911. Once the police show up, the police find no gun, and no body. She hires Clint from a new PI firm. Clint is the only one who believes her. I love how close the two got while trying to figure it out. This book had a lot of twist and turns.

Clint Hayes, left his job as a homicide detective to work with his former boss, Jess Harris Burnett. Jess has decided to open her own private investigation service.

Jess Harris Burnett, was a former FBI profiler and she was also Deputy Chief of major crimes. Jess Burnett and Buddy Corlew decided to open a private investigation agency together.

Natalie Drummond, is an attorney, who suffered a traumatic brain injury. After her fall she has had laps in memory which makes her think she losing her mind or going crazy. Her brother and sister believe that she is hallucinating. That can some time happen with TBIs (head traumatic).

Natalie, is a possible new client, and after Clint, listen to Natalie story he believes with all of his instinct that there is more than what he was told. The one thing that Clint is known is for his strong instinct and he is convinced that someone is trying to kill Natalie. He takes the case because Natalie, is in need of his protection and he would like to find out who and why this is being done to her. If you haven’t read the Faces of Evil series than it is a must read.

I love that this is a spin-off series from the original Faces of Evil series. With every book of Debra Webb, books that I have read, she really knows how to keep you coming back for more. If you are looking for a book that has lots of suspense and romance. Than you have found it. Happy reading.

After finally catching The Player, Eric Spears, everything will calm down and return back to normal in Birmingham; right?

Now 18 months later, Jess Harris Burnette and her husband Dan Burnett are enjoying parenthood and expecting a second child. Jess and her long-time friend Buddy Corlew have opened their own private investigator office. They were extremely lucky that Clint Hayes, a former detective for Jess is now working for them. Their first case is Natalie Drummond. Everyone thinks Natalie is imagining all the strange things going on in her life because of a head injury she received previously. She says she shot an intruder but there is no body, no blood and the gun is missing. But Jess takes on the case and assigns Clint to investigate Natalie’s claim and protect her. Will Clint find any evidence to support Natalie’s stories of what is happening or will Natalie end up being silenced? What does she know that she isn’t remembering? Clint will do everything to protect Natalie and find out the truth.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as well as seeing where the much loved characters from one of my favorite series, The Faces of Evil, by one of my favorite authors, Debra Webb, are now. I can’t wait for the next book!!!

I was given an ARC of Dark Whispers from the author for an honest review and this is my review.
It was great having a new Faces of Evil book even if it was completely different from what we are use too and what we have grown to love from this series.
This is the new new Faces of Evil. Everyone has moved on in their jobs, a number of the team members have gotten married and have had children and now here we are with Jess and Buddy opening up a PI firm together, I mean who would have thought that?
Their first case has Clint who has also left the police force with Jess trying to help a woman, Natalie, prove that she actually shot an intruder in her home. Needless to say the first case for Clint as a PI is full of twist and turns and a bit of romance for this tough lawman who has sworn off commitment.
It was great seeing old faces from this beloved series but sort of bitter sweet with all the time that was missed and a few hookups that were also mentioned in this book that us dedicated readers did not get to enjoy unfolding in our books.
I am giving this book five out of five stars.

OMG this book was absolutely amazing. This book was a page turning Harlequin Intrique by USA Today Bestselling Author Debra Webb. I couldn't put this book down until the end. Former homicide detective Clint Hayes has his first client as a private investigator: a fragile beauty he isn't sure he can trust. An injury has left Natalie Drummond with graps in her memory, and she sees and hears things that aren't there. But she's sure she shot an intruder in her Birmingham mansion. Do where's the body, the gun, the evidence? When it's clear someone is trying to kill his vulnerable client, Clint appoints himself her protector, working overtime not to fall for her. But someone is dead set that Natalie never regains her memories or makes new ones with Clint.A great start to to the new spin off of Faces Of Evil. I had absolutely loved this book. I would highly recommend this book. I had received an Author's copy of this book so that I can read and review this book. Debra Webb has managed to take her Faces of Evil Series and make it more impressive. (How is that even possible?!)

We followed Jess Harris throughout the series and fell in love with all the other characters that crossed her path. (Except those who's Evil intentions were to derail her happiness.)

Dark Whispers takes us on a new journey. Jess has just started her PI agency with friend Buddy Corlew. Before she officially opens the doors, her first client sweeps in. Clint Hayes, who we've met before, takes the lead. We get to see a whole new side of the characters we already know and love.

My only complaint is that Dark Whispers wasn't long enough and I have to wait for more to come! I can't wait to see what these characters have in store for them. Debra Webb has a winning combination of witty character's, mystery, and romance. Reading this series is like you are part of this crazy family and cannot wait for the next reunion.

This novel comes with everything you except and more from Debra Webb's, Faces of Evil novels. Don't worry if you haven't read them, this can be read as a standalone, but it might spoil the relationships from the original 10 published.

Natalie has TBI and can't remember everything that happened around her fall and the sequence and which things happened. She felt that she was regressing but with so many people keeping secrets from her she didn't know what was true and what were disillusions.

Clint Hayes, has left the PD to work as a PI with Jess and Buddy at their new firm and takes Natalie's case because he believed her when no one else could and there was just something about her that drew him in.

Getting to hang with the old gang while unraveling hidden secrets and following the dark whispers you will be on the edge of your seat trying to anticipate what is coming at you next.

Debra Webb has done it again with this new spin-off to her amazing Faces of Evil series. The main cast of characters from the original series have cameo appearances in this new book with a few being the main characters in this great story. Jess and Buddy have joined together to start a PI firm. Joining the firm is former detective Clint Hayes who like Jess has left the force. Their first case is attorney Natalie Drummond who is in a 2 year recovery from a traumatic brain injury and knows she shot an intruder in her house. However when the police arrive they find no evidence and declare it an hallucination. Determined to prove them wrong she hires jess's PI firm and Clint is assigned the case. There are many twists and turns entered and discovered as the investigation evolves leading to a shocking conclusion and a bit of romance. This is a very enjoyable read that should not be missed.

Ex homicide detective and new private investigator Clint Hayes has taken on his first client. Natalie Drummond had a brain injury and still has gaps in her memory. She tells Clint she shot an intruder in her home and ran outside to wait for the police. When the police arrive there is no body, no gun and no evidence of any crime. The police chalk it up to her memory problems. As Clint starts investigating it becomes obvious someone doesn't want Natalie to regain her memory. He also becomes attracted and very protective of Natalie.

The plot of this book was very good, it kept me guessing til the end. I also liked seeing Natalie start to gain back her confidence and take back her life. This is the first book in the Faces Of Evil:Private Eyes series and I look forward to more books in the series. Thank you to Deb for the chance to read and early copy of this book.

This is the newest spin-off series from The Faces Of Evil. In this series Jess and Buddy start their own PI firm. They employ former homicide detective Clint Hayes from Jess's old team. Clint get his first client with Natalie Drummond, she has had a traumatic brain injury and asks for Clint's help when things don't seem right. Is it her mind playing tricks on her, or is someone out to get her? If only she could think of why anyone would want to hurt her.

I can't get enough of the characters from The Faces of Evil series, this is a new job for Jess, but it lets Ms. Webb develop even more characters to go along with the originals. I can't wait to read more about the new PI firm and their new clients.

After a accident Natalie can't trust her own self. With voices and patchy memories shes not able to be seen seriously. Especially after she shot an intruder and all evidence was missing. With the help of Clint they work on finding out what really happened and after a couple of mishaps they are wondering what really is going on.

I loved that the main character Natalie wasn't a reliable character. Because in reality all the odd stuff could be her fault, someone could be really be after her or maybe its all in her head. I enjoyed seeing each reveal what really was happening and how Clint was able to help Natalie solve whats going on. Its was suspenseful and I kept wondering when something weird would happen next. Overall a great story I really enjoyed it.

Dark Whispers by Debra Webb
This book is a once started, can’t put down book.
While it is a part of the “Faces of Evil” series, you can read it and not need all of the back books to be able to follow the story. While I would suggest that you read the other books. They are all well written, with a great story line.
I do not like to give spoilers, however this book is exceptional.
The story is about Clint Hayes and Natalie Drummond, He was hired as a Private Investigator by Natalie to help her investigate a possible Murder.
Sorry that’s all the spoilers that I can give.
Read the book, you will definitely not be sorry.
Loved it

Clint is a private investigator working for Jess (I think Jess and Clint were in the other series). Natalie has gaps in her memory from a fall down stairs in her home. She was a lawyer but now cannot trust her memories. She has some very cryptic memories surfacing and someone is trying to kill her or did she kill someone? Very action packed with an intriguing story-line. ... I will definitely read more of Debra’s books and I highly recommend this one.

Debra Webb's latest, Dark Whispers is a Faces of Evil story. When Clint Hayes takes a job with his former boss in her new PI firm little does he know how his life will change. In walks Natalie Drummond, their first client. She suffered a traumatic brain injury two years ago and now she needs their help. This is a wonderful story full of suspense and intrigue with twists and turns and I thoroughly enjoyed going along for the ride. YET ANOTHER EXCELLENT READ by DEBRA WEBB
I could not put this book down! Debra Webb has created an excellent new path for Jess Harris Burnett and her team in this new series for Harlequin Intrigue, continuing the journey of delving into Faces of Evil and how to stop them.
Twists and turns you didn't see coming, self-defense, gas lighting or not - you decide, and a villain who sneaks up from behind both literally and figuratively.
