I am not really a big into comic books because they are just not my type of reading, but after reading this book I really likes it. I was just so cute read. I am glad that I gave this book a try, because if I did not then I would be missing out on a lot.

Some of this stuff I remember from having read "Superman: The High-Flying History of the Man of Steel" 3 years ago. It's like going over what I first read as a boy!

A brief, yet detailed history and explanation of comics. I liked learning about India ink and emanata.
One note: the part about Eisner makes it seem like he started in the 1970s. I think he actually started around 1936.

My Review: This is a fun introduction to the world of comics. It is a level 3 reader and chances are if your young reader is at this level, they can also be enjoying comic books. I like how there is a lot of history in this book but it isn't overly stuffed with it. The history is also made fun and included some facts even I didn't know. This is a fun way to include non-fiction books into a young readers library too. At the end of the book there are also fun ideas to get them started making their own comics too.

This was a great introduction to comic books for today's youth! I'm a bit jealous: I'd have been so excited to buy this for the library if it had come out while I was still there! It gives a clear explanation of the history...starting with cavemen! I also loved the back matter which extended the discussion. There is a great multicultural section titled comics around the world (Tintin, Asterix and much more!). There is also a section on tools of the trade and how to make your own comics. Finally, there is a pretty decent quiz! (why yes, I dd ace it). I really like this series and will be looking for more of them. This one shows what I've always maintained about kids' nonfiction: it is an excellent place for adults to start exploring a subject they know nothing or very little, about! Note that this book is not a graphic novel. It is a regular nonfiction book, with only an occasional cartoon like illustration.

Comics from the start to now. Might have been better if written in a comic format - or would that be too meta?

History of Fun Stuff is a new Ready to Read series. Readers learn the story of comics and its other forms as it evolves through the ages. Also serves as a great introduction on how to familiarize oneself on reading comics. Includes activities in the back. I’ll probably check out more in the series.
