Bewitch the Dark #3

His Forgotten Forever

Rate this book
Truvin Stone no longer remembered his victims...Or his enemies. As he fought for survival, the only person Truvin could trust was an outsider to his world, an innocent foolish enough to nurse him back to health....

Truvin's past was one story Lucy Morgan couldn't stop chasing, even after she discovered he was a vampire. Drawn in by his dark side, Lucy was one bite away from feeling the true power of his embrace--and his eternal curse. Standing in the midst of a new war, Truvin was the key to tipping the balance between vampire and witch. Yet returning to his old, evil ways would destroy Lucy... and deliver to him a fate worse than death.

This was a fantastic book! I've found Michele Hauf's work to be so varying, almost from one end of the scale to the other, but this one is definitely the best of her novels I've read so far, (along with, Her Vampire Husband, which got me into these books in the first place)! For those of you who have read previous books, (particularly Nickolau Drakes story), this book pretty much follows on from that and tells what happened to Truvin Stone who was the temporary leader of a vampire tribe.

The whole storyline was excellent, a vampire waking up with amnesia after being attacked and hijacking a young woman, (Lucy) in her car when he is desperate to get away from those chasing him. She befriends him and takes him into her home to help him try to recover his past memories. Truvin does not remember he is a vampire, and Lucy and he develop a relationship. When they find out some of his history and that he is vampire, I did think maybe Lucy was all too calm and too accepting and trusting, taking this stranger into her home etc, and usually I find that a bit unrealistic, but suprisingly I felt it really did fit with this character. Maybe Hauf was just very clever in her detailing of the characters, as Lucy was generally a trusting person and this did come through in the writing as being something you would expect of Lucy, it is probably why it worked! There was plenty of action, as well as intrigue and suspense and it was so well written you could really imagine how difficult it must be not knowing anything about yourself, it left me with a warm empathy for the character, and despite knowing some of what he had done in the past because I had read other books in the series, I still ended up feeling sorry for him!

Full of intrigue, a really pacey, fast moving storyline that pulls you in to what I felt became a really believable world that I wanted more of, and could actually imagine being there! Well written, a good balance of action, plot, sensuous erotic parts, romance and shows that any kick arse hard man can be tamed by the right woman, oh yeah Girl Power LOL! A must read for all paranormal romance fans, but also not too slushy that it would likely appeal to action and fantasy readers too.

Basically I liked the idea of the book. A Vampire who lost his memory after an assault by his enemies and had to relearn again what it meant to be a vampire and to discover bit by bit his past and why he was attacked. But the execution of this idea was not really exciting. Lucy Morgan his rescuer and love interest was honestly said a stupid girl and totally obsessed with becoming immortal. The hero was rather boring and not really likeable in my opinion and I could utterly sympathize with the witch who was seeking revenge after all he did to her. Only because of the idea and the unexpected twist at the end of the book I´m willing to give this book two stars. This book is second in a series and I haven´t read the previous book "Kiss me Deadly" yet and I´m in no rush to read it soon.

Though I enjoyed this book, the poor editing was very aggravating. The characters thoughts are all in quotes as if they are speaking to someone instead of in italics (or something). I kept having to stop and reread to see who the heck they were talking to. It was very annoying as it happened throughout the entire book. Also there are a ton of dropped words (in, the, on, and, or etc). Here's an example: "And a huge snowflake plonked between their close faces, landing his mouth."

Ms. Hauf did introduce a new concept in vampire lore. Witch blood instantly kills vampires. This makes the ware between vampires and witches rather interesting and deadly.

Ok, I get the linking characters in, as a writer that's just a frikin exciting thing to do. I also get the 'misinturpreted guy isn't all bad pretends to have done what he hasnt' sort. Love them too. But when a guy goes from fighting his leader for the right to kill mortals in one book to a guy who's never killed in another, well I'm thinking some inconsistancy issues are going on here...
Maybe she painted him to evil in the first one, didnt think he was gonna be the next guy? I dont know. But I found it hard to connect the two of him as one person....

All the books in this series are really fantastic!! You'll get hooked on them and want more. I hope the author continues the series because she uses that vampire - enticing (or Thralling as she terms it) trick and with the witches - she definately will bewitch you. Great plots and blends the characters from the other books into each very carefully not to take away from the current characters of the book you are reading. The drama and romance keep you wanting to turn the page.

The story of a vampire who has lost his memory due to an injury he got in a fight against his enemies. He meets Lucy who helps him. No real chemistry between the two main characters. The vampire was very focused on regaining his memory and figuring out his life. Lucy was focused on the romance of actually being with a vampire and having immortality.

i thought i'd try to give this series a chance. i mean, i love a good 'Paranormal' read & perhaps i was too quick in dismissing it.

It has an amusing plot, a vampire who loses his memory and winds up with a needy little unbeliever.

For having read Anne Rice & Laurell K. Hamilton over the years, this is just too "fluffy" for me to sink my teeth into.

I read 1/2 the book and just couldn't get into the story at all so skipped and read the last two chapters. I was completely disapointed in it overall. I thought it would be wonderful but so far with MH's books she either hits or she misses with me. This one missed me so much I put it down with a heavy heart and disgust.

His Forgotten Forever

What happens when a vampire has amnesia and starts to have feelings for a mortal woman before he remembers he's a vampire. Truvin and Lucy are happy together while she tries to help him remember who he is. Will she still care when she finds out the truth? A great quick story.

Solid effort in this series. Despite many flaws in her character, I liked the female lead, insecurities and neediness and everything else. And I loved how Truvin loved her despite her flaws, just as she did him. Very valid for real life.

Quit at page 29.

Too easily distracted by turns of phrase such as "an audible shiver" (only if she's an armadillo) and "shrugged a hand through her hair" (I do not think that word means what you think it means).
