"Finally, Anguirus climbs onto Godzilla's stomach and jumps up and down. Godzilla is angry that anyone would dare to wake him! But he calms down when he sees that it's his friend Anguirus. Angruirus motions for Godzilla to follow him. Curious, Godzilla lumbers toward the beach." One day, the monsters on Monster Island discover a strange egg washed up in the beach. Godzilla and Anguirus protect this egg from rowdy monsters, and scientists trying to retrieve the egg from the island. Godzilla On Monster Island is a playful take on the typical sci fi monster horror series of Godzilla. It's action packed, though unfortunately it suffers from the problem of cramming too many events onto the same page and only being able to demonstrate some of the events. I find these types of books can distract the reader from imagining the story events when the page illustrates a much simpler image. However, this book makes up for its wordiness with its stylish thick ink lines and vibrant palette of warm and blended colors. What I enjoy about this book is the details in the background. I would always want to have my mom read this book to me when I was little (or want to read it myself once I was a little older), but even now returning to this story there are subtle things going on in every page, like Varan eating from a tree or Gigan hiding behind a rock. I gave Godzilla On Monster Island a 4 out of 5. While the book feels like it can drag on with too many events and wordy descriptions packed into such a small and simple story, it's also a fun and visually pleasing to look at book with a memorable ending.
Godzilla on Monster Island is another fun Godzilla book for kids, starring Godzilla, King of the Monsters, who lives on Monster Island. When a mysterious white round object appears on the shore, it is up to Godzilla and his friends to keep the object safe until they can figure out what it is. In order to do so, they must battle other monsters, including a giant robot. Godzilla doesn’t show as much personality as he does in Who’s Afraid of Godzilla? but Godzilla on Monster Island will still entertain monster-loving kids. Appropriate for: Ages 4+ Contains: monster violence
