Some people call it puppy love,
But I know the truth.
Even though we were kids, too young to know better,
I knew.
I was absolutely head-over-heels in love with Cody Jamison.
There wasn’t a moment in my life that he wasn’t a part of.
There wasn’t a part of me that didn’t belong to him.
And just as I was about to tell him…
He left.
Left town.
Left me.
Shattering my heart into pieces.
But now, he’s back.
Just like that.
But, we’re no longer those bright-eyed little kids we once were.
He just re-emerged,
Claiming a spot as the lead guitarist in my brother’s band,
As if nothing ever changed.
But it did.
Everything's different now.
And I won't let this asshole strum his way back in,
Reclaiming my heart,
Not without an explanation.
He’s going to have to work for it,
For me.
Cody Jamison can’t have me,
Until I have the truth.

I received an ARC for this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I wanted to like it; I really did. It had so many of my favorite plot devices -- in love with the boy next door, the older brother's best friend, the sexy rocker who seemingly can't be tamed until he is....

That said, this is going to be the first bad review I've ever written. I did not like this book. I did not like it at all....

I'd have given it one star, but the book actually started off pretty well. Shannon and Jamison (or sometimes CJ or sometimes Cody. Pick. A. Name.) were childhood besties who promised each other they'd always be there. She was feisty and he was sweet. But CJ's parents stole him away in the middle of the night, crashing their dream and when we meet them again all that I liked about them was gone.

Jamison. Except for the fact that he can play a mean ass guitar, there's not really anything redeeming about him. He'll admit he's an asshole, but it's not even really in the sexy, bad boy kind of way.... I just don't like him. I don't think his thoughts about women are sexy, but instead piggish and that is unfortunate.

Shannon. Why do we like her again? She wants to be a journalist. I'd like to hear a little more about why. We don't really get to know her at all.... And consequently I never really learned to like her either.

I found Niquel's storytelling all over the place and I didn't care for the style. A lot of stuff seems to happen "off screen" shall we say and I kept getting pulled out of the story trying to figure out what's going on. For example, Shannon meets up with CJ for the first time after not seeing him for 11 years. She freaks out and runs away. The next time we see them together, it seems like they've been hanging out. When did that happen? Disjointed storytelling is the best way I can describe it.

There's also a lot of Shannon and CJ writing each other off for stupid reasons. It just read to me like -- I hate to be unkind here -- like a high schooler wrote this.

In short: too much back and forth, too little character development, too.... all over the place.

Good book to read. The beginning is so very cute with three kids two brother and sister and one brothers best friend. It's adorable to see how these kids have feelings for each other. Then bam the story goes astray. You have to read it to feel the emotions it throws your way. As the story unfolds you get lots of the background you missed in the beginning. Great story. Was interesting and attention grabbing. Glad everything worked out in the end. Excited to see the next book in the series

I'm Torn...

After thinking about it for a while, I'm still not too sure if I liked this book or not. While there were elements that were interesting, for example the band starting from the ground up. I didn't like the star of the book, Jamison himself. The guy did absolutely nothing for me, even as the story unfolded. Actually, I disliked him more.

Everybody loves the long lost romance, young lovers reunited after years apart and Jamison had that going for it early on. However, once Cody left town abruptly and then we skipped ahead eleven years, things didn't seem to flow smoothly. We entered some extremely choppy waters with all of the characters and it was one bumpy, confusing ride until the end.

Annoyed isn't the right word for what I was feeling, more like frustrated. With the characters, the storyline and the whole kit and kaboodle really. Niquel has stories to tell, but it was all over the board. Not just Shannon and Cody Jamison, but we are trying to keep track of the band members and best friends as well. Everybody has an interesting background and the details came through at a fast and furious pace.

While I'm a fan of the manwhore turned good guy, Jamison never really seemed to turn into the good guy, but a guy that made excuses for his behavior and Shannon was the naive girl that lets him say sorry once and right back into her life. She has potential, however to me, Jamison is dead weight for her. She needs to move on.

The book was written at what seems like a hurried pace and at times, I think a dual or various point of view would have been easier to keep track of. There is a little bit of everything action, romance and sex scenes, but they are just that. Short scenes. There are too many unanswered questions or serious subjects totally glossed over as if they never happened. All of that said, I will have to admit, I'm still interested in seeing what way this whole Cody Jamison and Shannon thing is headed.

3 Sun kissed stars

Jamison had potential to be great.

The beginning I loved, CJ and Shannon growing up, how he cared for her how they grew up together and then one night his parents moved away taking CJ with them.

Years later CJ and Shannon are reunited.

I love a childhood to adult lovers romance and this was good.

I struggled with the way the story jumped a lot. Certain scenes like CJ was told his parents had died and that was it? no feelings or emotional, explanation, the plot then jumped onto something else it did this a lot with different things, CJ mentioned running from the mafia like its an everyday occurance like oh by the way my dad owed the mafia so I had to work for them mugging people, stealing. As a reader you think this is going to be a big part of the plot but next thing they are in rehearsals and that part of the story is gone. Sorry but the flow just wasn't right at all.

Shannon was too forgiving also, CJ should of been the one to beg for forgiveness after being caught in the act you expected this but all to soon the plot jumped to them being together again. I couldn't grasp how he loved her so much years ago still claimed to but didn't show it when he first arrived back he was a manwhore and continued to be one, its like I read about two different CJ'S.

Regrettably I have to many negatives to point out and I try not to write negative reviews but I frowned more reading this than I have with a book in a long time.

I did love the idea of the whole story, and I can understand the positive reviews because of this, you see the start of the band hitting stardome and the sweetness of the childhood to adult romance, both these things I love.

There's a few hot scenes, not overly expressive or descriptive with little build up and the story is also told in dual pov's. I hope for CJ and Shannon it will be a hea.

This book had so much potential, so much!!! But fell short for me. I thought Cody was a complete fuckin douche!!!! I love you so much I always have but step aside so I can bang randoms in the bathroom. I hated how Shannon was so weak and was always at his beck and call. He would barely apologize for his douchebaggery and she's like ok. Shannon was a weak heroine and, I can't stand a weak heroine. And Cody I just wanted to punch him.

This book just jumped around to much. The gaps didn't make sense to me.

If this book had more explanation about situations that really shouldn't have skipped over, like running for the mob for example lol, and a stronger connection to the characters, i think this book could have been great.

Now all this being said since I am a glutton for punishment I will read the next book in the series hoping it's better because I really did think this book had so much to work with and could have a lot better.

I received a copy of this book for a honest review.

I received an ARC for an honest review.
This is the first time I have read any of author Niquel’s work, and it will not be the last. Cody and Shannon loved each other as children, but when Cody leaves town with his family, they lose touch. Years later Cody returns to join Shannon’s brothers band Spasm. There are secrets, and twists and turns in this story. I enjoyed the banter with the supporting characters as well.
I enjoyed this book, although at times it felt a tad disjointed. I look forward to reading more from this author and the other members of Spasm.

Jamison is my very first Niquel book and I throughly enjoyed being a part of this bad boy rockers world for a short period of time.

Jamison is one sexy, dirty and troubled bad boy.

What is it about a bad boy that makes a girl swoon no matter her better judgement?

Shannon is admittedly the good girl. She is the girl who may like to have fun but at the end of the day she's the girl who follows the rules.

Niquel's story of child friends finding their other half is equal parts sexy, lovely and angsty. I loved watching the bad boy and good girl decide that they had to be together and learn now to mesh their two different worlds.

The story was a roller coaster of emotions and I felt each and every one. I can honeslty say that I love Jamison... I love to hate him and I love to love him.

Completely in love with CJ and Shannon's love story! There is sweetness, passion, drama and a bada$$ rock band in the making. This book grabbed me and didn't released me until the end and I was so happy that I was able to read the next one right after I was done. This series is definitely a must read! CJ was literally the boy next door and Shannon knew from a young age that it was more that puppy love. But circumstances separated them, but now he's back all grown up, becoming lead guitarist in her brother's band and making her feel too many emotions for her liking. Their journey is a roller coaster and definitely one I enjoyed completely.

I throughly enjoyed this rocker book. It is a unique story and a fresh take on a rocker series. Cj and Shannon have known each other for as long as they can remember and have loved each other almost as long. When Shannon is 10 and Cj turns 13 he up and leaves with no trace but a letter he gave to Shannon. 11 years later he shows up at a bar and auditions for a new band and the rest is written in the stars.

Not my type of HEA

I loved the story don't get me wrong, but I had so many unanswered questions. When I noticed I was on the second to last chapter I was wondering this can't be it. I would never tell an author how to write a book. She might continue the story in the other books, but not sure I would continue the series right away. I will sooner or later get the others, but not one I have to have.

Review:
Childhood best friends. They pledge their love for each other. Then one day he was gone. This was an interesting story where we get to see a friendship grow, disappear, and the turn into a happy ever after. This is the first book of the Spasm Rocker series. The plot is about two best friends who grow up together Cody Jamison (CJ) is really Shannon’s older brother’s friend, but Shannon and CJ have a very strong connection. They can tell each other everything and we get the feeling that they will always be together. When CJ is forced to move away and never heard from again, Shannon never really stops missing him. As soon as CJ is able to return to the place he grew up he does, and he reconnects with his old friend who is holding tryouts for his new rock band. CJ and Shannon may get their second chance if CJ’s past doesn’t mess everything up. I enjoyed this book Shannon and CJ have a strong chemistry that stands the test of time. The book is pretty evenly paced, but I did feel like I was reading two different stories. There is some drama in this story concerning CJ’s father. The characters are given a good HEA and the characters have a strong development through the story.

I really liked the book and the story was good. I like Shannon and I liked Cody at times. This is a hard review for me to write because while I enjoyed the book, there are things about it I didn't like. The characters words versus their actions just didn't add up many times and the jumping of timeline and storyline. The beginning was amazing then when we get to the later part is just started jumping to me. One minute the band meets then they are talking about each other like it's been weeks or months but never specified this. Almost comes across from band meeting to stardom happens in a month unless you happen to catch the random comments about them practicing the past couple of weeks then it makes more sense but my problem is there was not not enough references to lapses in time. The storyline seems to jump of one thing to the next very quickly without warning. Kind of left me feeling incomplete. Now like I said the story it self is good and I enjoyed it. For me there was too much detail of things that didn't matter and not enough detail for the things that did. All in all, I think the story could be amazing but felt rushed and the characters could real had they been developed through the story more. I do have to say that I look forward to reading more from this author and the other members of Spasm.

Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review - 3 & a half stars

This author is completely new to me so I didn't know what to expect but looked forward to reading the book.

Brother & sister Ambrose (Dean) & Shannon spent all their time with best friend Cody (CJ) & Shannon had a serious crush. One day CJ disappeared leaving only a note behind & Shannon was left devastated.

Fast forward 11 years & CJ auditions to be in a band that was put together by Ambrose. Their bromance is quickly rekindled with no awkwardness. However when Shannon discovers CJ is back in their lives she is not happy but eventually realises he is still the boy she loved all those years ago.

I have to say I did struggle sometimes with this book. I felt that in certain situations Shannon forgave CJ way too easily & the story didn't really flow for me. A bit disappointing

Being young and in love doesn't always mean just a crush or lust. This may be true for many of us; however, CJ (AKA Cody Jamison) and Shannon had more than lust. CJ being a few years older and friends with her brother, Ambrose AKA Dean saw something in Shannon even as a young girl. They had a special bond until one day CJ had to leave unexpectedly and tore her heart apart.

CJ returns as they are adults to be in a band, Spasm with her brother. He always had a place for Shannon in his heart and seeing her again sparks those feelings. Can they put the past aside and pick up where their feelings left off as kids? Shannon will not make this reunion easy for CJ nor should she especially the way he is. Wow, this is not just about second chances and being a rock star! There were some twists in here and a little mystery. We get to see glimpses, but there better be another book on these two plus the rest of the band as the ending fills you to enjoy the book, but there are so many questions you are left wondering about.

The question you will be wondering is does Jamison choose the fame and groupies or will he choose the fame and the love of his life? You may or may not get you answer lol. You will want to punch him a few times though with his antics.

Niquel is a "new to me" author and WOW!! I was captivated from the beginning!!

I loved how the story started out when Dean, CJ, and Shannon were kids. It was cute how Shannon trusted her brother and did whatever he asked her to do, no matter how stupid it was. And Dean did get in trouble but Shannon loved her big brother! She also started having these strange feelings for CJ that she didn't understand. When CJ turned 13 he just disappeared out of Dean and Shannon's life. Why? You gotta read and find out!!

Fast forward 11 years and CJ is back to join the band Spasm that Dean is forming. Hmm....are there feelings still there between CJ and Shannon? How do they differ now that both of them are adults? Personally, I don't see how Shannon could resist him now that he's older and a hot rocker!!

Great story! Very well written!! I read it quickly because I just couldn't bring myself to putting it down. Those twists and turns get me every time in a book!! I'll definitely be reading more books by Niquel!!

I liked idea behind Jamison but I had a really hard time with the actual writing. It’s a bit choppy which made it difficult to connect with the story. Aside from that the first few chapters had my attention but then it just went downhill from there. I felt like I could feel more of a connection between the main characters in those first few chapters when they were younger, but as the story progressed, that connection just wasn’t there. There was a lack of depth and the story was rushed which made it seem as if some of the issues were just glossed over. This book had a lot of potential but it just wasn’t for me.

I received this book in return for my honest opinion.

This book about second chances and rock stars.

We meet CJ (Cody) and Shannon as kids. As kids Cody and Shannon who loved one another but Cody moved away with his family and they lost all contact with each other. Fast forward a few years later and Cody is back in Shannon's life when he returns to his home town to join Shannon's brother's band Spasm.

There are secrets and twists and turns that will keep you reading but to be honest there were a few parts that I felt were just put into the book to fill the pages. I also felt that this had a lot more potential.

Cody Jamison is back. He and his parents seemingly disappeared on his 13th birthday, His best friend Dean and his sister Shannon didn't know where he went or what happened. Now that he's returned, he plans to get the girl back along with the life he should have had all along.
Shannon Moore has dreamt about this man with the images of the boy who left and broke her heart. She has measured all of her boyfriends by the ideal of CJ. Now that he's back and he intends to have her, she will learn more than she ever believed could have happened.
I liked Cody as he was a believable character. I loved Shannon, She was the epitome of the girl who fell in love with her older brother's best friend.
This is the first book I've read by this author. I loved the story line and the characters and look forward to reading more by her. I am excited to read more of the guys and Alexis in Spasm.

This was a different rocker story. Some unexpected twists. Just when you think it's a sweet puppy love and friendship things change.

Dean and Shannon are siblings. Their next door neighbor and friend is CJ. We see the beginning of their friendships and then we see more. It's amazing how we get to see the changes in their lives. New band and new paths in their lives.

The band members are all a family. It took some time but Dean, CJ, Alexis, Reg and Chad all seem to work well together. Throw in Shannon and her friend Pen and it adds to the story. I can't wait to see what is in store for the band next.

I loved the beginning of this book. It showed their start. I loved watching these two as children and their love and friendship. Yes friendship, however they had love like I said. You would think that these two will be together someday. They knew even at that age they loved each other. He treated her with respect and didn’t act like she was a nuisance to him when he was hanging around her brother Ambrose “Dean”.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“ I was looking at the small dots across your face. What are they”

I placed my hand over my face, and rubbed my cheeks, wishing they would come off. “My mommy calls them ‘freckles’ I hate them.

“Why?”

“Because people are always teasing me about them. Mom said I got them from being in the sun too much.”

“So then let’s call them sun kisses! The sun loved your face so much, it left little kisses behind.”

That is what I loved about the book. This interaction.

The story line to this book was good and it had great potential. Then abruptly he is forced by his parents to move right on his thirteenth birthday. Poor Shannon, my heart broke for her. She was crushed and depressed. That’s when it changed for me.

Cody “CJ” then comes back just as abruptly to audition for the band he heard his other best DEan which is Shannon’ brother. He claims he loves her but I just simply did not feel it. He was a jerk. I felt he loved her when they were younger, first love, first crush. From the moment he left to the moment he returns, he doesn’t talk about his past. You can sense it is bad. At times I felt like a teenager was writing this book. Just based on how he was acting and how he spoke. He was nonchalant about it.

There are some steamy scenes, trust problems, he is on the run and doesn’t want to be found. This is where another one of my issues come in. If you are on the run and don’t want to be found, why would you join a band and want to be seen and heard. I know that this is a work of fiction, but to me that would not happen in reality. How he says he loves her then treats her poorly. I also felt that this was a bit unfinished. This is the first book in the Spasm Rockers Series maybe I will get to see a bit more then.

I love childhood friends to lovers stories. I love to read about the issues that possibly kept our main characters away from each other only for them to come together when they’re older. We get some of that in this book.

Jamison and Shannon have known each other for years. He was her brother’s best friend growing up and spending so much time together helped create that bond between them. But he moved away unexpectedly and upon his return, things are just not the same.

That right there is what hooked me into reading this story. I wanted to know what would happen; would they get together? Would his absence be explained? Would she forgive and forget? But I didn’t get everything that I was hoping for.

The flow was a bit choppy. The section about their childhood was fluid and gave you an insight into their personalities. Once they’re older, the story goes all over the place. There are also many characters with interesting backgrounds, but we’re trying to keep up and their stories seem underdeveloped.

Shannon was just too forgiving and soft. I wanted her to be stronger, to not let Jamison just come in and take over. I wanted her to stand up to him and make him work for her love, yet she gave in too easily.

Jamison was a manwhore, and although many heroes nowadays are, we can find some redeeming qualities to them that make us want the heroine to forgive them. Here, Jamison was just too much. He claimed his feelings for her were in full force upon his return, yet he acted the complete opposite. And thinking that apologizing for his actions would always put him back in Shannon’s good graces, just kept him acting the same. He made me hate him many times more than not.

I liked the story; I felt it had and has potential to be great, but the pace was just too fast, too rushed. Many plot arcs just seemed to be left in the dark and not completed. There were too many questions left unanswered and others were just skimmed over. Certain parts I thought would be a huge part of the story, of Shannon and Jamison getting together or overcoming the separation, yet they were only mentioned once and then forgotten.

I don’t feel the book is horrible, I wouldn’t be reviewing it if I did, but I think it needs more work for the story to shine. I hope that the following one continues and gives us the Shannon and Jamison story that we want. I hope to finally feel like my questions are answered and I also want to know more of the other characters.

This book was given to me for an honest review.

3 stars

So when I read a book I look for certain things. This book appealed to me because it was a childhood romance to adult romance and they are one of my favorite books. I love seeing them grow into their love and I was hoping this would be like that. This is the first time I was wandering why would Shannon still like him after everything, but I will get to that. I understand that kids can't tell their parents to stay or tell them they won't go, but in the same idea there is always way of contact. I don't think Jamison tried hard enough through the years. I want to tell you I loved the main characters but I would be lying to you. I though Jamison was a manwhore throughout this book. He claims that he loved Shannon and only wanted her, but his actions do not show this, they actually are the opposite. Trying to connect with him was difficult because he through me off balance most of the book. His whole carefree attitude on why he had to leave to they way he interacted with Shannon, just was not what I expected. Shannon is another problem, I wanted to love her and mean she was the one left behind, she was the one that lost that little girl love, she was somewhat traumatized about it, but the way she forgave him for his misgivings so easily made me feel the book was not real. At times I couldn't keep up. There are so many people in this book because of it being a band and everything that it was hard to keep track of everyone and what part they played in the book. I felt the book was rushed in some places, too drawn out in others, and that was more frustrating than not. I don't want to keep on the negatives of the book so I will leave it at that.

I loved the early child hood scenes. They were written excellently. You see how a little girl and little boy fall in love without knowing it. When you see how much they meant to each other it is more than sweet. In addition I always like seeing how a book forms a band. I love seeing it start as nothing then be something. I love the feel of the music in the book and how they wrote the lyrics into the story.

Unfortunately, I have more negatives than positives this time a round. I have read her books before and have love them, but for me this one fell short. I hope that she finds an audience for this book, because I know there is one out there. I hope the author nothing but more great books.

Shannon has always had a crush on CJ her brothers friend. He was much older then her but both seemed to hit it off. Now on his birthday he disappears promising to write but never dies. Shannon is heart broken. Shannons brother is going to start a band and low and behold standing right in front of her is CJ. Vowing not to make thing easy of CJ for breaking her heart she is soon drawn back in. But where has he been all this time? Can she trust her heart or will it be broken again? Can love come out of this fairy tale or will his secret destroy them all.

This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

This author was new to me, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The idea of the book held promise, as I loved the initial plot, but I didn't like the execution as much. Niquel was able to write like a child wonderfully and it set the back story off in a way that was hard to top. I was intrigued with the ending of the past, but I felt like the present day could have been better. The story is from a dual perspective, which I love, and you got a real feel for the characters. The band I loved, as they're how I'd expected modern day rock artists to be, edgy and real, but have a genuine understanding about life. The bands plot line was great and I loved reading about it, especially the auditions and the drama.
Shannon was a great girl, and I loved her as a child, but I kinda didn't understand her very well. You know she is still hung up over 'the one that got away', but she seemed to forgive him very easily and trusted him quickly. He was a stranger really, so it would have made the story better for me if we had a bit more context to their meetings, or even a bit of anger and drama to clear the air. But that's just me. I liked how she was studious, but she gave that all up over a guy who was focussed on his own career more than anything. Her friendship with Penelope is great and I loved their dynamic, especially how they told each other straight. Her brother is still her protector, more so because of her past that wasn't described too much, so that was a sweet side of him I didn't see coming.
CJ used to be best friends with Shannon and Dean when they were younger and then he suddenly disappeared and didn't do what he said he'd do. He is a very talented musician, who writes some beautiful lyrics and loves the groupies which come with being in a band. He had strong emotions, but they switched so rapidly that I got lost at one point. He is obsessed with noticing a woman's body, especially the lead singers who has said no, which lowered him in my books. CJ just seemed a bit self-absorbed, but was a pretty face. I'd have loved to know even more about him and what happened in the time when he wasn't living in the US.
If the story was more developed and the characters emotions less frivolous, I'd have enjoyed the book more, but I'd love to read about Dean or Reg and Penelope to see how their stories develop. But it's got drama, friendship, music and a second chance sort of love to keep you reading.

Cody Jamison just disappear and left Shannon heart broken at very young age. The puppy love between the two was so cute to read and a great touch to the story.
The grown-up love between the two was much different. The give and take was not always even and Jamison had me ready to stop reading at one point. Shannon doesn't back down from people she may have to step back and regroup but she didn't back down, and that made me love her.
I love this band and can't wait to read the next story.

I have to make a note this is a 3.5 stars review not a 3 star. I enjoyed the story line and flew through the book but I did have a few issues that held me back from making it a 4 star read. Anyone who follows my reviews knows I love the childhood friends in love story - even better when it is your big brothers best friend !! Then to have the separation last years and now as adults coming face to face - I can't ever say no to that BUT a few things should have stood out more and taken more time while other things may have been able to take a backseat. Regardless of that I am excited to see where the series goes because the other story I can't refuse is the rock star kind !!

As childhood neighbors and besties Shannon and CJ became close thanks to her brother Dean. CJ was a few years older but always there and always protecting Shannon. You could tell he adored her from the start and sadly due to family issues he was ripped away from her too soon and we were not able to enjoy any of what could have been. Now years later Dean is starting a band and CJ is back home BUT it takes a minute to realize who exactly that is trying out for the band. As great as it is to see Dean and CJ reconnect we are all waiting impatiently for Shannon and CJ to reconnect !! They get their moment and you do learn a bit about the why's and where's of CJ's past 10 or so years. CJ had been a manwhore and that usually doesn't bug me BUT with their past and the love and connection still being so strong I was kind of put off by his behavior in the midst of him and Shannon figuring things out. At times it bothered me more and I just wasn't sure in the end about the impact it had. I was happy Shannon and CJ could figure things out and have their chance but had my moments of wishing she just kicked him to the curb. Then when his real reasonings for leaving come back to haunt him I felt it went a little bit too fast. I wanted more - more details - more action/suspense. It was a great twist and I think it could have been expanded into so much more. Again all in all I enjoyed the book , the story lines and of course cannot wait to see what comes next - some juicy stories have been building on the side !!

~3 ½ Stars~

Shannon, her brother, and her brother’s best friend, CJ aka Cody, are the best of friends as children. I adored the special relationship they had, especially between Shannon and Cody. They begin to develop feelings that they are unsure of except that it goes beyond normal friendship. They are each other’s first loves, but before the feelings can grow into something stronger, Cody is forced to move with his family. He promises to stay in touch with Shannon, but he doesn’t. She is heartbroken, but goes on with her life, but no one has ever replaced the special place Cody has in her heart. Years later, he reappears, and she realizes her feelings have never changed, and Cody has never forgotten Shannon. But the years have changed both of them, so will they finally get their HEA?

I have mixed feelings about Jamison concerning several aspects of the book. It started out so strong. I loved the pacing. Niquel did a phenomenal job of building the foundation of Shannon and Cody’s relationship. It wasn’t rushed; it was perfect. However, as the story progressed, the pacing developed more rapidly…some parts too rapidly. I just felt like things were too rushed when Cody came back to town. The second issue was Cody. My issue with him has nothing to do with the author’s writing. He was extremely complicated. I loved him at times, and then I really hated him. He didn’t deserve Shannon most of the time. He says he loved her, yet he didn’t treat her like he loved her. I felt like Shannon needed to have more confidence in herself. She needed to take a hard stand with Cody. But, Shannon had a loving, forgiving, and generous heart. That was one of my favorite things about her.

While Cody wasn’t my favorite character, Niquel brought out strong emotions in me. To me, a writer has accomplished an important goal, when he or she gets your emotions invoved, whether it’s sadness, anger, or love. I just wished parts of the story weren’t as rushed, but it’s a solid start to what looks like to be a good series. I will definitely read her next book. She has created lots of secondary characters that I would love to know what their stories are.
