A funny, sweet trilogy about three girls and the friendship and romance they find working summer jobs at a water park!
Caitlin and Robyn, long time best friends, get summer jobs together working at The Splash, the local water park. While Caitlin gets to be a lifeguard, Robyn is stuck pushing little kids in inner tubes down a slide. And to complicate matters, Robyn's long-standing crush on Shane is turning into something more. There's just one problem....he's Caitlin's brother!
Jade Parker, who also writes as Lorraine Heath and Rachel Hawthorne, is the daughter of a British beauty (her mother won second place in a beauty contest sponsored by Max Factor® during which she received a kiss from Caesar Romero-who played the Joker on the old Batman TV series) and a Texan who was stationed at Bovingdon while serving in the air force. Lorraine was born in Watford, Herts, England, but soon after moved to Texas. Her "dual" nationality has given her a love for all things British and Texan. She enjoys weaving both heritages through her stories.
When she received her BA degree in psychology from the University of Texas, she had no idea she had gained a foundation that would help her to create believable characters—characters that are often described as “real people.” She writes for both adult and young adult readers. She received a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Americana historicals. Her novels have been recognized with a RITA, Romance Writers of America’s most prestigious award for excellence, a HOLT medallion award honoring outstanding literary fiction, a Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award, five Texas Gold Awards, the Golden Quill Award, the Rising Star Award as well as other awards and recognitions. Her novels have been selections of the Doubleday and Rhapsody Book Club. Her novels have appeared on bestseller lists, including USA Today, Waldenbooks, and most recently, the New York Times.(less)
A proof of summer on the pages - the book with a summery feel, when the weather here had suddenly decided to plunge into the cold this one had transported me to a place where I could almost smell the water warmed by the rays of the sun and feel the sun on my face, whilst I was turning the pages over. Robyn and Caitlin, fifteen years old, spending all the time together and starting working at the water park one of the summers and It was a light summertime read, giving off warm and sunny vibes, relaxing and fun and a favourite book out of the three. And yes! - eventually the sun came out from the clouds, bringing the summer back. Yay!

It's summertime, and Robyn is ecstatic that she is able to work with her best friend, Caitlin, at the water park that they always visit. What could be better than a job that revolves around being in the water all day with cute guys roaming around?
Unfortunately for Robyn, her first day at her dream job is more like a nightmare. Unlike Caitlin, who was assigned to Tsumani, the ride that all the older guys go to, Robyn was assigned to work at Splash, where little kids go. Not only that, but it turns out that Robyn's supervisor is Caitlin's annoying older brother, Sean, who always ignores her when she is around.
Her first few minutes at Splash don't seem too bad; that is, until she meets her coworker, Whitney, the girl who thinks she shouldn't be working at all.
The longer she works at Splash the more things begin to change. For one, her friendship with Caitlin begins to strain, and Robyn's initial thoughts of Sean are beginning to wear off. Every time she's around him, she doesn't see the irritating side of him that Caitlin says is always present. But it seems like Sean is interested in Whitney more than he is for Robyn. If only he could see the bad side of Whitney! Besides, even if Sean did have feelings for her, Caitlin wouldn't understand, right?
Robyn is in for the biggest wave of her life. Now if only she is able to enjoy it!
The first in the three-part MAKING A SPLASH series, ROBYN is both adorable and charming. Unlike most characters, Robyn has a strong mind of her own, and grows right in front of us, causing her to be a character that is easy to relate to. ROBYN is the perfect addition to any beach bag!
I just love this author. She write these cute little storys that take no time at all to read and they are just pure fun. They are YA and everything is so age appropiate. Her books are not some great deep read or some amazing story. They are just fun and they make you smile while you are reading and when you are done!
Parker, Jade Making a Splash: Robyn (256 p.) and Caitlin (240 p.). Scholastic, 2008.
Best friends Robyn and Caitlyn have secured jobs at their favorite hangout spot - the local waterpark. Caitlyn has the hot job, watching the wave pool with all its bronzed bodies, while Robyn is stuck watching the kiddie pool and babysitting the new girl, Whitney, whose only dedication to work is to work on her tan. And Caitlyn's supervisor is Sean, Robyn's older brother - who, until this year, has always just been there. But now, suddenly, Caitlyn is beginning to see him an too too new light. In #2, Robyn has been burned once already by a summer romance. Now handsome Michael Romeo is in the picture, but so is Jasmine, Robyn's original rival. Circumstances keep throwing them together, but Robyn keeps trying to resist.
If you have a need for light summer fun, this trilogy (Whitney's story is forthcoming) perfectly fits the bill. As sweet and safe as you could possibly ask for!
This was exactly what I needed for a good summer read. I stumbled upon the second book in this series when I was in high school and absolutely fell in love with the author and her characters. I was feeling a little nostalgic, so I picked up the first book to read.
Robyn is so much like me, especially my high school self. Quiet, often overlooked but no less clever than the rest of her friends. Like most of us, she just wants someone to notice and love the side of herself that she keeps hidden. There’s so much potential within her and even more than she realizes! She just needs a few people to call it out - which she gets!
Sean is the sweet male lead who always saw the shy but amazing girl that Robyn is. I loved getting to read their story and how they came together. And it all happens in a water park! How can it get any better? It was the adorable, innocent read that I needed this summer. I’ve got all the warm fuzzies and heart eyes, now!
I’ll be re-reading the second book and picking up the third! 🌞🏖️🕶️
Robyn is thinking summer is going to be a blast. She and her best friend Caitlin are starting their first jobs together at the local splash park. But when they're assigned their spots they realize this may not be what they expected. With Caitlin's brother Sean a new supervisor this year the girls aren't sure how to behave around him. Learning how to work with others, even the girl who doesn't seem to think she has to do any work, Robyn as to decide things for herself without Caitlin to lead her. That's not the only thing that's unnerving. Robyn was looking forward to maybe finding a boyfriend since she was going to be meeting new boys at the park. But the boy she thinks she may be interested in is a huge surprise. Meanwhile Caitlin has her own thing going on with a new boy and Robyn feels left out. Summertime, friends and growing up are the theme. A coming of age story from one girls' perspective in the first book of the series.
This was the fun Memorial Day weekend book I needed, in part because the whole story took place in the days before, during, and after the holiday weekend. This YA summer read was also a nice break from hard-hitting/ intense thrillers. Also, it had pretty cool timing; the story is adorable and sweet! Robyn is a completely relatable character, and I enjoyed reading the story from her perspective. She and her friends start working at a water park in the northern part of Texas for the summer, and Robyn may or may not start to really like a guy who I can’t mention here for fear of spoiling something. I’m excited to read the other two books in the series, one about her best friend and one about another of her friends! All of that to say, I’m confident that this 2008 series will add to this being a summer to remember! 🤩
This book is about Robyn, a lifeguard at her local water park. This is her first year working at any water park. Then she gets her job, it is being a lifeguard at the kiddy area. Her best friend just started to work there too but she got a better job. Her friend also has an older brother and he is the supervisor for the kiddy area. Then she starts to fall in love with him.
Easy read. High schoolers falling in love while working at a water park. 3 book series following 3 different female life guards. Life never imitated these books. Reminds me of reading Wildfire romances back in the day. Loved it and plan on flying through number 2 while on vacation.
I remember reading this book when it first came out in 2008, and I was a pre-teen. I loved it then, and it was fun to revisit it now 15 years later! I appreciate that it’s age appropriate but still a fun, cute, and romantic read.
You don't always get what you want in life. This book, Making a Splash, displays how life is unfair but you just have to get used to how life goes. Even though you get the job that you want, you might not like what you're supposed to do. Life isn't always about choosing and expecting what you want to expect. Robyn, a teenage girl, gets a job at The Splash which is a water park. Although she got the job that she wanted, she was assigned a specific place in the water park which was, to be a lifeguard at the kids' section. Robyn didn't like it at first because she was trying to make a good impression of herself in front of her supervisor but she kept messing up and even got in trouble once. Robyn was just nervous in front of her supervisor so she became clumsy. After finally calming down, she began to realize how fun her job was and she even saved a little boy from drowning. I think this book is very good because it can be relatable. I can relate to Robyn because on the first day of community service, I was so nervous because it was my first time and I didn't know if the little kids would like me since I volunteered at a daycare. This book also taught me a lesson about how life goes. Life is all about taking risks and trying your best to achieve your goals or overcome any challenges. I recommend this book to those who like teen romance and reading about a job at a water park. Guess what, go get this book right now! No more waiting to finish this book review...
For the teens of last centry try this for size the summer love story turned flip floppy and bonkeers.the begining of a summer job leasds to new people new experiences new relationships and new freindships with a little mystery to boot i wonder what is the deal with whitney and that last question will have to wait till the next book. Haveing fun in the sun for the summer you'd think that working in a water park be fun but not if your stuck in the kiddy area with out the hotties. And is it bad enought your best friend was supposed to work with you and your best friends brother whom you always awkard wiht is you supervisor what fun would it be. but for robyn it'd very intresting indeed.
If you you like your teen romance wiht a splash of summer job life read this book. you dont have to be a teen to understand. but to understand some of the things that happen may need for a teen so the age group id say is 12 and up.PEople who want to read a story that is intresting but not to suprising excepet for little parts.
I love Jade Parker/Rachel Hawthorne/Lorraine Heath. I found her when I first read the Dark Gaurdians and discovered something in the way Parker writes romances just speaks to me. Now I read everything I can get my hands on by this author. This is the first book in a summer YA romance by Jade Parker that takes place in a water park where romance blooms. Robyn is excited to be working at the splash park and ends up at the kiddie ride with her friends brother, Sean as her supervisor. Robyn finds that she likes Sean more and more as she sees him at work. This is a fun quick read that just appeals to the first love of summer. It is totally fluffy and I love it for it.
I loved this sereis. It was so cute and so fun to read in the sumemr. I love this book it is my favorite in the whole series. I wish I had a boyfriend like Sean. Sean is so caring, funny, and Hot not to mention he could be bossy sometimes. But I just fell in love with him he seemed so dreamy. Plus, he can draw and I loved the end of this book how Robyn did what she thought would be good for Sean that just had me going awww all over again. I think every teenager should read this series its just so cute and short and would make you wish for more!
Two best friends, Caitlin and Robyn, both gets a summer job at the local water park called "The Splash." Caitlin gets assigned to a ride where older guys go to whereas Robyn is assigned with little kids. As time passes, Robyn begins catching feelings for Caitlin's older brother. This novel is very simple to read and the plot is fun. I would recommend this book to teenage girls because it is realistic and girls can relate to it.
This teen book was a really quick read. A bit pendantic but I am quite a bit older than a teenager with her first love. Of course it was just kisses only so nothing that had to be skipped. I will go onto book 2
these "Making A Splash" books are great. the font is so big so you can read them really fast i finished this one in like 2 days. and also the love they all find is great. [:
I would like to read this book beacause when I read the back cover it just caught my attention. Now I want to see if Robyn the girl in the story has to finish all the stuff she said she needs to do.
I found this to be a very fast read. Which is good when you have finals to take. It was also very cute. I can not wait to read the next book that follows Robyn's friend Caitlin.
