Unicorn and Yeti: Sparkly New Friends was named a Best Children's Book of 2019 by Parents Magazine.
This is a humorous and pun-filled picture book. Children usually "get" puns around the age of 6 or 7, so I would recommend this book for elementary school students. However, older preschoolers would likely enjoy this story - particularly if they are ninja fans! It's a variation on the Gingerbread Man story - only this time it is the Ninjabread man. Kids loved looking at the illustrations and noticing that some characters were hiding and spying on the Ninjabread man throughout the book. They voted to give this book 5 stars.
Oh my. The premise is an hilarious idea. And some parts lived up to that. But others fell flat in delivery--part of that being they didn't always seem to match the illustrations. Or the illustrations were a but much to follow and still follow the words. Lots of puns for the pun-lovers. Worth keeping in mind for storytime. I think Hubby will get a laugh or two and might enjoy sharing with the kids.
4/4/18 Used in K theme. Parts of the story (or the story conveyed in pictures) were lost on the preschool kids. But they were so into it! Perhaps the bright colors and the familiarity of gingerbread man. The older brother who was visiting I believe has read this before, and was excited to have it read. So, yay!
