I received ALL OF ME from Edelweiss for the purpose of an honest review.
*Review is cross-posted to MyBookAddictionAndMore.com*
I have to start off with I love Jennifer Bernard's first series, the Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel. So I knew this book would or should leave me smiling. However I think with All Of Me, Jennifer Bernard touched on some tough subjects, namely trust. Not just trust in others but trusting ourselves. Trust lies at the base of any love, so it's nice to see it touched on within All of Me in other ways. Caleb Hart, our hero, has not just trust issues but issues with surprises. While Sadie has her own issues with trusting men, and believe me she has a right to those issues. Both have a battle to fight to get to their HEA, some within themselves others with what life throws at them. I have to say I loved this story from beginning to end. The characters are well written and believable. The setting is wonderful and engaging in it's own way. The story flows easily and quickly. There are surprises and times you want to punch someone yourself. But mostly you'll fall in love with Caleb and root for Sadie. Fans of Ms. Bernard will find a new series to adore. Those new to Ms. Bernard's writing will find a book that is page-turningly fun, deeply engaging, and sexy enough to keep you smiling throughout the book. I highly recommend this one to any fan of Susan Mallery, Jennifer Ryan, Jill Shalvis, Emily March, and the list goes on. If you enjoy a great contemporary romance pick up ALL OF ME, you'll be glad you did!
KITTY'S REVIEW 5 Stars: Baseball ... yes, it's that time of the year again ... and, what better way to start off the season than with the new series being released by Jennifer Bernard. After firefighters, is there any place else to go? And, boy, did she do a great job in jumping from the fire into the bullpen with "All of Me". Caleb was just so endearing. Loving, kind and oh so very hot. His love for his siblings and his mistrust for the man that tore them apart mixed together with his obsession for baseball was a true recipe for a wonderful book about love, trust and happily ever after.
The woman looking lost in the locker room definitely got his attention. But, can he win her over? There is a wall around her that he can't seem to scale and, when everyone's truth comes out, will he be the winner or the loser in the biggest game of his life?
Sadie doesn't trust anyone. How can she when she was betrayed in the bitterest of ways by a man that she gave herself to body and soul. But there is something about Caleb. He's witty, fun, serious and caring. If she's not careful, she'll lose herself to him and she'll have to tell him the truth about why she is the way she is.
So, I have always loved Jennifer Bernard and can't seem to get enough of her books. Her Bachelor Firemen series had me constantly waiting for the next book. I was estatic when she said that her next series was baseball. It truly is one of my favorite past times. But, I have one bone to pick with Ms. Bernard - no one .... absolutely no one ... strikes out Derek Jeter. I was like "you did not go there"! But, Caleb stole my heart even if the highlight of his career was striking out my favorite Yankee. Jennifer always wrote strong me with senses of humor but Caleb was just in a class of his own. It took a while for me to warm up to Sadie. I guess I would have rather her face everything head-on instead of hiding away. Then, when she finally stood up to the bullies, when her and Caleb finally joined forces and she became the woman that I wanted her to be, Caleb totally disappointed me. Yes, he redeems himself and it did show that he wasn't just this wonderful person, that he had flaws, that he could make mistakes himself. And, as they both fought the demons from their past and looked forward to the future, I smiled knowing that we will see more of them, watch them grow closer and start their lives together as the series continues.
Yes, I loved the beginning of the Love Between the Bases series. Jennifer Bernard did not let me down in the least. She kept the story moving, it was funny, it was sad. It was classic Bernard and I was thrilled. So, now I get to sit and wait for the next book in the series to see where she is taking everyone. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's going to be a certain celibate catcher (I hope so) or possibly the owner of the Catfish. Hmmm, what kind of past do him and the Mayor have? I guess we will all have to wait and see.
SLICK'S REVIEW 3.5 Stars: I'm a sucker for contemporary romance and even more of a sucker for contemporary romance set in small towns and when you add in my favorite sport baseball...well you've got yourself a homerun set up. There was much to love about Jennifer Bernard's All Of Me including some outstanding, well developed characters and an intricate plot with twists and turns, but at times the romance seemed lost in this book which was sad because if any two people deserved a wonderful romance it was Caleb Hart and Sadie Merritt. For a first book in a series it was very good; a lot of characters were introduced, the town of Kilby proves to be in interesting backdrop and there is a lot of potential for future stories. I liked this story a whole lot but I could have loved it if we'd actually spent more time with this couple interacting as a couple instead of them always seeming to be embroiled in some controversy and forgetting that above all they should have trusted one another enough to not let other people's words and actions get in their way.
This book pairs two people who both have something in their pasts they wish would go away and both with trust issues. There was a lot to like about Caleb Hart a young pitcher who had a shot at the major league and blew it pretty spectacularly, back playing Triple A ball Caleb wants to get his head on straight and be the pitcher he knows he can be but family issues keep cropping up and as hard as he'd like to block it all out he just can't. Caleb is one of the good guys and as the book unfolds we truly see everything he's given up for his family and the reason he has trust issues. I'm not saying he didn't make mistakes because he made a few really horrible ones and I think him realizing just how low he sunk was punishment enough for him. I love a sassy heroine and Sadie was working on getting back to her full sassy self. After breaking up with one of the town's golden boys her reputation was put through the wringer by his lies and with the help of social media and a really vindictive ex. I hurt for everything she'd been through and I hated that the thought she had no recourse because of the power her ex's family had in the town. When these two meet they are both fighting their way back and something between them sparks leaving them both struggling to figure out what to do about it at a time in their lives they don't need any more controversy.
There was something so fresh about the way Caleb and Sadie fell into a relationship and eventually love especially given everything that was going on in their lives and everyone trying to make things for difficult for them. The few times we see them together, just the two of them, are somewhat magical and while I appreciated the intricate plot with so much happening to both of them throughout this book the story of them together got lost. This book was very good and I'll be honest I thought the author came up with some truly unique situations for this story however with so much focus of everything happening, we really didn't get a chance to see this couple fall in love and we most definitely didn't see them building the trust they needed to make it believable considering their situations.
I enjoyed the baseball scenes and the moments in the clubhouse and even outside the clubhouse with the various players. The strangeness that seems to come with minor league baseball was present adding an air of reality to this book. Never did I doubt that this team and especially their owner didn't enjoy the notoriety of their reputation and I also could not discount that every player on the Catfish team was working towards the goal of being called up.
A sweet, funny and sometimes outrageous story of baseball in a small Texas town with plot twists galore and a hero and heroine who both deserved every bit of happiness they managed to find made All of Me a very enjoyable book and a good start to a new series.
☆ I received an ARC via the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!! ☆
All of Me was my second ever read from Jennifer Bernard. I’ve read one of her Firemen books, and liked it, but when I saw that she had ventured into the sports genre my heart literally skipped a beat!
Most individuals who know me, are well aware that I love my jock reads!
All of Me posed huge questions of proving yourself, rising against opposition, and being able to have faith in trust in someone.
Both Caleb and Sadie have a tandem to manifest to both themselves and the world and go through their conflicts and dissensions and find themselves as well as each other in the process.
They were a lovely pair as both come from relative equal footings and have their fair share of stikeouts, but ultimately were perfect counterparts for one another to help redeem themselves!
Loved this ‘homerun’ of a novel! Can’t wait for more!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I must say that after reading all of Jennifer Bernard's Firemen books, while I was waiting for her Baseball books with anticipation, I honestly think I thought we would be getting the same books in different uniforms. I was wrong. The only resemblances I found were loveable characters and a well written book. I absolutely adore the Kilby Catfish baseball team from Texas! They are funny, cute and all around entertaining. I also like the fact that these books are a bit spicier on the sexy side. Caleb & Sadie are each fighting their own battles in this story, yet end up standing and fighting together. I am already so looking forward to reading the stories of some of the other great characters in this book. Looks like Ms. Bernard has the beginning of another hit series on her plate! I plan on being in the stands to read each and every one!
Summary Caleb Hart plays for the Kilby Catfish in the minor leagues, hoping to find a spot in the major's. He has real talent, but lately he has been striking out on his throws, and not just in the game. But has an altercation with sexy and feisty Sadie Merrit. Caleb will have to prove himself to Sadie and the mayor not just for himself but for the whole team. Sadie Merrit, after the disaster with her ex boyfriend, is still recovering. The rumors and gossip surround her like a dark cloud. She was barely able to get a job with the mayor with grit and determination after no one else willing to hire her on. She knows how lucky she is to have what she does considering the lies that are being spread around about her. She is determined to keep her job, even if that means resisting the gorgeous Caleb Hart who could have any woman at his feet. But a surprising and blow away kiss will change Caleb and Sadie and their desire for each other will explode into a wild fight for love... The Hero Caleb Hart is the oldest of his siblings, and after his mother abandoned them and then his father was arrested and put in jail, Caleb had to step up and take care of his sister and twin brothers. He was only nineteen but determined to keep his family together. He was forced to quit college, and take up a career in Baseball which he discovered is his passion and he has true talent for it. But his jive in going down the drain and he must get his head back in the game or his family will suffer the consequences. They rely on him to be financially stable. With his sister getting into med school, and his twin brothers still needing care, they can't afford for him to lose his mojo in the game. But his desire and passion for Sadie changes things for him. Caleb is a hero that you just want to soak up. He is gorgeous, talented, and kind. He is a protector and is good to the heart and soul of his character. His only mean bone is when it comes to those that attack people he loves the most. The Heroine Sadie Merrit hasn't exactly been dealt the kindest hand of cards in life. Her mother sleeps whenever stress or life happens. And Sadie couldn't stand to be surrounded by such laziness. She had to always be doing something or the silence would drive her nuts. Sadie has a college education. But on one night she wanted to do something nice for her boyfriend and unknown to her at the time, he was taking pictures and video taping her. He then reveals the pictures to the whole town and now she is known as the town whore and slut. The rumors and gossip of it all has practically destroyed any chance to make a career and only her closest friend has stood by her. She has been betrayed by everyone and has trust issues. What I liked about Sadie was her inner strength and courage. She has this resilience I was instantly drawn to. Her situation is pretty heart breaking at times, but she keeps fighting for her life in the town and I loved that. She is a fighter. Plot and Story Line All Of Me is the debut into this new fabulous series by Bernard. A series that is a baseball themed romance setting. Now this is the first baseball romance that I have read and I really liked seeing more depth into this sport. I don't know much about it except for the basics, so Bernard does a great job of introducing the readers to the sport and the culture which is very different from football (which I know very well since I happened to be practically weaned on the sport hehe ) Anyway, what I loved about this was seeing the whole series be set up in this book. We get an introduction into a minor league team that fight for each other and cheer each other on when they reach an accomplishment or a goal. I loved the friendship bonds and the commadarie between the players.
At the beginning we see the conflicts that rise between these two. They both have their own interests and goals but there is also a sizzling chemistry. But in the beginning, it seems more like a forbidden romantic theme for the story. Sadie needs to keep good standing with her job working for the mayor. And Caleb has to work on his career so he can support his family. But their attraction only gets stronger and we see them develop a relationship that is quite different from what you expect from the beginning set up. We see how both of them realize how explosive they are together and its worth the risk to see if what they have is worth it. This is one of my favorite aspects of the story. Is seeing two people fight for a relationship even if they know it comes with high risks. They enjoy the moments they have together and even though both of them realize it might not be forever, they have the now and they want to enjoy whatever they can have for whatever time they have. This is what I really liked quite a bit. The idea of enjoying life to its fullest moments and grab at those buckets of happiness when they come your way.
The supporting characters in the story really add flair and drama that helps balance everything else out. They adds juice and flavor that enhance the reading experience of All of Me. We even see hints of the next story involving Sadie and Caleb's best buddies: Mike and Donna. I also had fun with Caleb's family especially his sister. She is a firecracker and her sense of humor was unique and crazy and quite addicting.
Such a fabulous romance that won me over. The Cover What I want to say about this cover: IT ROCKS!! I love the simplicity of it. The pose is sexy, I love the forehead bump, with the matching colors and I love the whole style of the series. It's a bit retro. Overall View All of Me is simply wonderful in every aspect....its addicting, full of challenge and a heart throbbing romance to get your pulse pounding. A Sexy home run of a romance!
I love sports romances, so I was all over this one when we were invited to participate in the tour. I'm more of a football and soccer girl, and I haven't read too many baseball-centric stories, but I get it.
So what's this about? Caleb Hart has got to save his career by reining in his playboy ways. Sadie is a law student, working for the mayor's office in an effort to get Caleb's team out of town. Of course, she can't keep her eyes off his muscles and can't stop thinking about him and he can't resist her sass.
I liked the attraction that Caleb and Sadie had, and you know I like an enemies to more story. But I felt like aside from the initial physical reaction, it was kind of forced. I wanted them to be together because that's what I always want, but I would have understood if they didn't end up together. What I really liked about this story was the setting. It felt authentic to me, and I wouldn't mind visiting and hanging out with the guys. ;)
The pacing of this story was a little slow, but I liked the plot. There were real issues here, and I appreciated it. I could have done with a little less drama, though. The characters had growth, and there were some hot scenes.
Overall, I'd say All of Me was a fun story with a great setting and guys wearing baseball pants.
Meh. Too many over-the-top drama for my taste: sex scandal, con-artist father, slanders... It just went on and on. The things that Sadie's ex did was so juvenile it robbed out any chance of me enjoying the romance.
I also thought Sadie being a little too 'weak' when it came to dealing with her ex. If she wanted to be a lawyer and didn't have the nerves of steel or the wits when facing his ex, she would've been eaten in courts. Then again, probably because these characters were young? I think they were only in their 20's ... and I prefer my characters to be slightly older (or at least one of them is).
Bottom line, uninspiring romance, and I think I will bail out from reading the next books in this series.
Looking to get called back to the Majors, pitcher Caleb Hart runs into Sadie Merritt, the assistant to the mayor of the town where his team, the Catfish is based. They both have secrets and are on the hurting side of injustices.

I have been chatting with Jennifer Bernard on Facebook and when she visited my area recently I asked if we could get in touch and talk about her work. She was nice enough to get together with me in a small cafe and we had a lovely lunch and, I think we both left feeling like friends. Honestly, we had so much fun that I kind of took crappy notes and I am relating this via memory (I also forgot to take a picture – >>face-palm<<).
Jennifer is wicked (a Maine term indicating “really, really,” amazingly, or cool!) intelligent, a Harvard graduate who has made a living in writing since graduation. Her mother is a poet and her father is a professor. Being academics, her parents are a little stymied by her love of romance novels. I asked her if she ever feels pressure to write loftier fiction. Smiling she replied, that her parents do have her books (although in the basement book shelves perhaps, she suggested, showing a little ambivalence for her career). Love and relationships are a huge part of our lives and if she can make people happy through her books then as far as she is concerned there isn’t much she can do that’s loftier than that.
Another blogger suggested I ask Jennifer whether her own relationships drive the relationships about which she writes. To me this is the alchemy of fiction: Creating characters and then putting them in stories, situations and relationships, and I am in awe of it. Jennifer said that she hasn’t done everything her characters do. But that there’s a little of her in all her characters. Strangely, she finds it easier to write male characters and get in their heads.
Jennifer told me that the series themes are a backdrop for the story and the relationship. Sometimes, though, she says she doesn’t know what the story is really about until she starts rewriting and editing the first draft. That’s when she realizes she is writing a love story and more.
Are her bachelor firemen stories just about getting it on with hot firefighters? Not just — each of those firefighters and the people they fall in love with have to overcome some major physical, psychological or family issue. Coming up against their jobs and the plot is where the characters work out their issues.
Jennifer is a big baseball fan (Go Sox!) and her new series takes her into the heart of the game. We all love the majors, but the “farm teams” the minor leagues are where people often start and end their careers. If a major league player gets off-track or injured they often get sent to a farm team to figure out why or to do their rehab. Caleb is a major league pitcher whose family life suddenly got really complicated. It threatened his career. First he got traded and then he got sent down.
His head and his heart haven’t quite gotten the message that he has to be all in for the game. He can’t play fro the wrong reason and he can’t hide from the public. When he meets Sadie, somehow that changes his life. Being with her, working on a project with her gets his game back on track.
The attraction between the couple is instant, exciting and Sadie thinks getting together is a bad idea but she is just too drawn to him to not enjoy it, at least for a little while.
Sadie’s issues are very au courant – she’s from a town run by one powerful family and she’s gotten on their bad side. They’ve bullied her so much that even her mother has suffered from it.
I was kind of amazed by how well Jennifer has translated the feelings of being bullied into this character’s life. The shame, the injustice and the frustration are all there and very palpable. She is “slut-shamed” [completely false allegations] in person and on line, and this felt very “pulled from the headlines.” I felt rather indignant on Sadie’s behalf. Both characters are very responsible but each needs to gain some emotional maturity to handle their relationship as it becomes complicated by their family issues. It is as if their emotional growth was put on hold by having had to become responsible too young.
Also palpable is the way Sadie feels a little guilty, as if she maybe acted in a way that prompted the behaviors of her ex and his family. And of course, Cal has feelings of guilt for being his father’s rube and evading questions about him. Guilt is such an unproductive emotion but it’s very human. I think the only people who don’t feel guilt are the people who probably should be feeling it.
Most of the other characters are developed to the extent they need to be; the less important characters are less fleshed out. Cal’s father is very interesting and complicated: he’s a grifter but I felt he really did love his family as far as he can. His identity is self-created, I enjoyed the allusion Jennifer makes to a certain TV show with it.
In any event the heat between the characters is instantaneous and just about melted my e-reader. Jennifer writes super hot stuff, but in all the work I have read the relationships are affectionate and respectful.
I really enjoyed the book, and I can’t wait to see what kind of ball Jennifer will pitch with the next book! It’s one pitch I do not want to miss!
Jennifer Bernard has done it again!!! Her new series, Love Between the Bases, hits a home run with the first book in the series All of Me. Bernard known for her ability to blend humor, love, and adventure does not disappoint with Caleb and Sadie’s journey from weary almost adversaries to struggling with their growing feelings and finally to the happily ever after these two deserve. All of Me seamlessly mixes the backdrop of Minor League baseball, small town Texas, and of course love. Caleb is a rising pitching star who has a hit a snag and finds himself in Kilby Texas as part of the Minor League Catfish and right in the path of Sadie who is trying to be as perfect as possible after a very public and nasty break-up. Bernard tackles tough issues like online bullying, harassment, family abandonment, and the dynamics of welcoming someone back into the fold after having survived and taken care of your family on your own. However despite going to deeper places she never makes it feel heavy or depressing and often has the reader cheering for a verbal slap…or in some cases a physical one. This first book and, I am quite certain based on the greatness of the Bachelor Firemen, the series are not to be missed!!! Plus baseball pants, that’s really all that needs to be said ;)
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads
This is the first in a new baseball romance series, and I will be making sure that I keep an eye out for future stories. There are plenty in the team that will provide interesting plots!
There is a good mix of sport, of humour, of angst and romance. The chemistry between the lead characters is sizzling, in spite of Sadie's nervousness. She has good reason to be wary after a horrible situation that once again threatens her happiness. Some very real issues about privacy and the potential to destroy someone's future are raised. Luckily, as in all good love stories, things have a way of working themselves out - although in this case unusually, in part due to a slug!!
If you enjoy your romance with a dash of humour - then I recommend this to you - and hope that Ms Bernard is busy plotting book 2.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I very much enjoyed this book. This new series is about baseball players on the Kilby Catfish. They are known for their crazy parties and antics that have pushed the folks of Kilby too far. So far, that they've started a petition to have the Catfish removed. Sadie, an aide to the mayor, serves the team with the petition and a proposal to work together to fix the team's image. This is how she runs into Caleb (literally). The passion ensues and they find they just can't stay away from each other. Sadie is adorable, and I found her story entertaining. Caleb is hot and lovable, without being too macho or jock-ish. Add in a crazy ex who is torturing Sadie, and some family drama on Caleb's side, and you have the recipe for a can't-put-down story. I loved the author's Bachelor Firemen, and this series lives up to the reputation. I'm looking forward to many more Catfish.
Great start to a new series from this author. Set around a minor league ball club in small town Kilby it has a great bunch of characters that I am sure will be reoccurring in upcoming books. Caleb and Sadie have a fun, sweet, and oh so sexy chemistry between them and you can definitely feel it throughout the story. While parts of the story are a bit outrageous and silly at times, overall it's a very good read. I definitely recommend it.
Leave it to Jennifer to top her sexy firemen with even sexier baseball players.
Sadie Merritt has survived a huge scandal involving her ex, barely. She has one friend left in town, and her job in the mayor’s office that she knows she’s way overqualified for but is just glad to have, and hopes to hang on to it. She has a mother constantly telling her she can do better and that men are nothing but trouble. To say her trust in men or anyone, much less herself is waning is an understatement. Running into a deliciously sexy playboy baseball player while running an errand for the mayor is not something she planned for or quite knows what to do with, and she certainly has no intention of falling into a man trap again. But he is very sexy...
Trying to salvage his career as a pitcher, Caleb Hart joins the minor league team, the Kilby Catfish. Having messed up his big chance in the major leagues, he’s determined to prove to everyone, but most importantly to himself, that he has what it takes to be the best. After a terrible first day, he literally runs into a sexy Sadie in the tunnels below when she comes to meet with the team's coach. A PR project throws them together, and Caleb has difficulty keeping his mind on the game on the field even as his strategy leans towards games with Sadie as he begins his pursuit of her. But can he win her...
After falling in love with Jennifer Bernard’s sexy Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel, I was ready to give her baseball series a try but also a little wary that she might not be able to give this series the same small town romantic feel that we always felt with the firefighters. There was a camaraderie between the men/women of the San Gabriel station that was an important part of the series. Well, Jennifer has definitely created the same feel in her Love Between the Bases series. It’s off to a good start with ALL OF ME.
We get that small town feel, steamy romance, and a cast of characters we can hope to see reappearing often in stories to come. The base emotion of ALL OF ME is trust. Caleb and Sadie both carry trust issues, and not just in others but in themselves. I enjoyed the chase that Sadie put Caleb through to win her over. I loved the way Jennifer dealt with the long distance aspect of their budding relationship also. It’s very appropriate in today’s world since so many relationships must endure distance but with technology, the world becomes a much smaller place. The phone conversations and resulting heat, which exploded with so much steam when they came together, was natural, and realistic. When secrets, mistrust, and misunderstandings along with Sadie’s ex and Caleb’s father start to interfere, things fall apart quickly but as it should, love prevails.
I highly recommend reading ALL OF ME, the first book in the Love Between the Bases series by Jennifer Bernard. It might not be her absolute best—there were times I wanted the trust to come faster—but then every team needs a warm up time, and I suspect as this team comes together as a family, this series is going to heat up and become the champs we know they can be.

All Of Me is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Jennifer Bernard. We get likeable, and most of all real characters, plenty of sexy times and enough drama to keep it entertaining. It might not be about smoking hot firemen, but those tight baseball uniforms do make my heart beat faster.
Caleb’s baseball career is in a bit of a slump. Though it’s clear for everyone to see, he’s just putting too much pressure on himself. His family situation is a mess, and he needs his career to go well, to solve his problems. Meeting one little feisty Miss Sadie Merritt, just might be what he needs.
Sadie Merritt loves her hometown, though not necessarily the people in it. After a huge scandal last year, she’s only know picking up the pieces of that disaster. She’s lucky she got her current job with the mayor, and knows she needs to prove herself again. Getting involved with one of the baseball players though, is not the way to do it.
I loved that flirty banter between Sadie and Caleb. They were always on each other’s case, but in a good way, and that made reading about their interactions so much fun. The attraction is undeniable, and they actually don’t resist it too much. There is Sadie’s job, that makes them keep it on the down low, but it’s not a secret or anything like that. It’s just two grown up people exploring what is going on between them.
Of course it wouldn’t be interesting if there wasn’t some drama. There’s Sadie’s past that keeps following her around. She didn’t do anything bad, it’s that ex-boyfriend of hers who’s a complete jerk. I felt so sorry for her, and I could fully understand why she was hesitant to share that with Caleb.
Meanwhile Caleb’s family situation is a bit unusual. I really liked the fact that he wasn’t one to shy away from responsibilities. It clearly hasn’t been easy and there are still a lot of struggles between him and his dad. Caleb doesn’t always handle it very well though. He has a tendency to compartmentalize everything in his mind, believing crossovers shouldn’t happen. Unfortunately for him, life never got that memo and things just always get a bit messy.
The fact that the drama wasn’t so much between the two main characters, but more around them I found quite refreshing. I enjoyed getting to know Caleb and Sadie, their friends. There was a great balance of humor, hot scenes and drama. This is Jennifer Bernard’s first book about baseball players, and for me it’s a home run.
*I received copy from the author in exchange for an honest review*
The bases are loaded, and I think All of Me is a home-run hit! Jennifer Bernard’s first book in her new Love Between the Bases series proved to be everything I wanted and more in a sports romance. If you’re into baseball romance, small-town romance, and likable characters who persevere through whatever obstacles life throws at them, then consider reading All of Me.
Baseball pitcher Caleb Hart is currently straddling the lines between the major and minor leagues. Right now he’s the new guy on the Kilby Catfish minor league team. If he can just improve his game a little more his career can finally take off in the right direction. He meets and works closely with Sadie Merritt on a PR project. For Caleb and Sadie, the sparks definitely fly, and the chemistry irresistibly flows between them.
“I want you, Sadie. You don’t know how bad. And when you talk to me like that, all fired up and passionate, I can’t keep my hands off you.”
I adored both Caleb and Sadie! Life has not been easy for either of them. Learning about their backgrounds twisted my heart so much. Caleb has major issues going on with a certain family member, and Sadie has had to endure the cruel wrath of an ex-boyfriend. Really, the ex is the worst and a purely despicable person. This is a small town read, so there are people who are quick to judge and secrets that don’t stay so hidden.
Ms. Bernard had me completely riveted with All of Me from beginning to end. There was great character growth with Caleb and Sadie both individually and together as a couple. Most of the secondary characters were equally as fun to get to know. I’d like to see a few of them get their own stories. Overall, I loved the direction Ms. Bernard took this story. This was my first read from this author, and I’ll gladly check out her other books while I wait for the next book in this series.
I've been a fan of Ms. Bernard when I was introduced to her Bachelor Firemen series a few years back. Now she's come out with a brand new series, and I was more than happy to be given a copy from the publisher to review.
In her typical style, Bernard's newest novel sizzles. The tension is off the charts! Characters to love and some that aren't there to love. I love Caleb's devotion to his family, and their back story really grabbed hold of my heart. He's struggling and there are moments he can be a little irritating, but all around, I really enjoyed his character. He's a perfect match for Sadie.
Sadie's character took a little longer for me to connect to. Now that's not saying I didn't like her, I just couldn't relate at first, but she is a well developed character with her flaws, fears, and things she wants to pursue. It was fun watching her give in to Caleb.
All in all, this is a great start to a new series, and I'm excited to see where this goes!
I was given a copy of this book for review. Jennifer Bernard is off to a fabulous start with this new series. Not only can she scorch the pages with fireman but she can hit it out of the park with baseball players as well. Her writing style is unique and she makes her characters relatable. They come alive through her words. I was immediately drawn into the story and the differences between Caleb and Sadie. The chemistry is evident immediately. I always love the relationships with not only the main characters but the secondary as well. This is a definite must read!!!

Judging a Book by it's Cover -- Nice colors. But I'm not a big fanor the overall design. Both models on the cover poorly depict the characters as described in the book. The male model looks older and "softer", at the same time the pose makes him look like he's one of those grabby PitA guys who think they're cute but they're not. Sadie also looks older and way more "buttoned up" than described. The model's got that look like "Oh yeah? I don't think so buddy". It seems more playful and cheeky, but you really do not sense any romantic connection from the cover.
Synopsis sounds okay, not like something I'd pick up on my own though. I'm not a huge fan of baseball and it sounded a little too redneck as well. But, as a favor to a friend, I've agreed to read it. I have liked the author's firemen series, so I'm hoping the writing style will transfer over to this new series as well.
Looking Deeper -- Caleb is a great brother. But, the way he approaches Sadie? I'm surprised the guy hasn't been charged with sexual assault. He's always pawing at her, and more! And, maybe it's some sort of hole-in-the-wall small-town mentality, but if Sadie's so dang shook up over what Ham did to her, without looking into the violation of privacy laws and reporting the photos and video to the proper channels, how did she expect to ever become a successful lawyer? I get the familial tie in the law enforcement thing, but once it hit the web, it became Federal and she would not have had to deal with Ham's podunk father. Their parents were a hot damn mess, both of them. The cast of secondary characters were enjoyable, but are currently little more than filler... only two or three actually contributed to the plot. The whole slug cause seemed like an odd and unusual mockery. The conflicts were rather plentiful and with their less-than-stellar communication, resolutions were not found quickly nor easily. The plot, as a whole, was good. There was some predictability, but not enough to be off-putting. The conclusion was solid, with a completed HEA and hints of others to come.
For the first time in a Jennifer Bernard book, I actually found it difficult to connect to the characters. Caleb and Sadie seemed to have some trouble connecting as well... almost like an engine with one cylinder misfiring. The dialogue was still classic Jennifer Bernard, however. Smart, sassy and fun. Maybe it's because this is the series' debut and a whole new world needs building, but I'm not really a fan of the small-town busybody mentality in Kilby and hope like hell that future books in the series will focus less on the narrow-minded, nosy inhabitants. Fans of Jennifer Bernard will also note that this book is quite a bit steamier than her Bachelor Firemen books ever were. I have a pet peeve about "boner" being used in adult plots, my opinion is that it's a term used by children, teens, and up into college. It is suitable for Young Adult and New Adult, but I don't feel it is a mature word for mature adults. Unfortunately, the terminology had made an appearance a few times throughout the book. I felt as though maybe Jennifer's alter-ego had a more predominant hand in writing this book, especially in the amped -up, sexy scenes.
I first fell in love with Jennifer's writing in the Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel Series. I found myself anxiously awaiting the release of every book in that series. I was fortunate enough to be given access to read and review Jennifer's newest book, All of Me before it's release. I would say Jennifer Bernard hit a grand slam with the first book in her new Between the Bases series. In her newest series we are introduced to the Kilby Catfish, a minor league baseball team. What's not to love about the hotness associated with baseball players? In the first book we follow Caleb Hart, a star pitcher for the Catfish. Will he strikeout or hit a home run with Sadie Merrit? Should Sadie take a chance on love again after getting burned? There is never a dull moment in baseball, nor is there a dull moment in this book. I would definitely nominate this book for the All Stars. If you're looking for a great, carefree quick read this should definitely be added to your must read list. Jennifer Bernard has done it again! She manages to get you hooked from the first page and in the next instant you find yourself at the end of the book in no time. Of course she leaves you thirsting for more. Who will be the focus of the next book?

When mayor’s assistant Sadie delivers a petition to oust the Kilby Catfish AAA farm team, she meets Caleb, star pitching prospect and just one of its bad boys. There’s no denying the attraction between them, and when they’re paired up to work on a joint charity PR campaign, the attraction heats up. Each has secrets, ones that will either make or break any chance at a relationship between them, and they must come clean. But will the small-minded residents of the town let the proverbial cats out of the bag before they get the chance? Or will the couple stand together to fight the court of public opinion to make it work?
If you’re looking for a sweet, sexy, romance with the boys of summer, this one is for you. While a little predictable, //All Of Me// makes for an excellent beach or poolside read with quirky, lovable characters and a fast-paced storyline. There are some plot points that aren’t completely resolved by the end of the book (especially considering this is considered a standalone novel), however the book does set itself up nicely for the next volume in the series. This is a franchise I will definitely be sticking around for!

All of Me is the first book in Jennifer Bernard's new series. The story follows Caleb and Sadie, both of them having suffered through something terrible. Sadie is the assistant to he mayor of Kilby, Texas and meets Caleb, pitcher for the Kilby Catfish, when she brings a petition to the team's captain at the stadium. There is instant attraction between the couple and it only gets hotter from there.
What I loved about this book was the chemistry between Caleb and Sadie, and also how protective Caleb was of his brothers and sister. I would have liked to get to know them better, however. I also liked how career oriented and focused both were. I for sure didn't like any of the Wades, especially Hamilton. What he did to Sadie and continues to put her through is despicable. Why nobody reported the Facebook page or tried to get the video from him is beyond me. I didn't feel as though there was really any resolution when it came to that. All-in-all, this was a great start to the Love Between the Bases series, and I can't wait for more from this author.
I wanted to read this book because it was a sports romance and I love those! A lot! This book touched more on the subject of trust then anything else. Caleb has some trust issues but he also has some surprises. Now Sadie has her own issues that she is trying to deal with which includes men.
The storyline was written well and I loved the characters. Bernard not only made them real but had them jumping off the page. One moment was just starting this book and before I knew it I was done. I am excited to see who will be next in this new addicting series. This book was definitely a page turner.
The players are fun, entertaining and will keep you interested. From the moment when Sadie meets Caleb you can see them chemistry and the instant attraction. I did not like Sadie's ex at all. This book had the perfect amount of drama and it wasn't overly done. It was just enough to keep you interested in both main characters. I cant wait to read the next book in the series and I hope this series keeps getting better and better since I am already addicted.
I received this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
I picked up this book the other day from our group Wicked Reads because the blurb and cover were pretty hot! After settling down and reading for a few I realized that this author is the same author who writes those crazy hot fireman books. I enjoyed this book with ease, and loved the plot. Sadie Merritt's hasn't had much luck with men. Her fathers not in the picture and her last man spread awful rumors and sex tape around town. Needless to say she hasn't buckled under all the pressure. Enter Caleb Hart... He's a ball player traded down to the minors after an awful incident in his last major league game. He's lost his pitch so to speak, and has some family issues to address. These two aren't a match made in heaven but it was fun seeing them get together. Nice chemistry that you can always expect from this author, and a couple of laughs from good humor. Overall entertainment is four stars!
All of Me is the first novel in the Love Between the Bases sports romance series and is also my very first read from author Jennifer Bernard. This was an enjoyable story, one that was lighthearted but also had both lead characters--Caleb Hart and Sadie Merritt--dealing with some serious issues. Trust is something that doesn't come easy to either of them, but even as they struggle with their respective circumstances, they find that something special in one another that inspires them to take a chance. The story itself was fast-paced and both Caleb and Sadie were highly likable main characters who combined sweet and spicy really well. There are also a couple of interesting supporting characters that I wouldn't mind knowing more about as the series progresses. All of Me was a good series starter and it gets four out of five stars. ♥
