Legends Of The West (Lucky Luke)

Rate this book
If the Old West is so well known, it s in no small part because some of its own legends made sure they were recognized in their own time like Buffalo Bill Cody and his Wild West shows. When Colonel Cody asks Lucky Luke to join his show, though, the lonesome cowboy humbly refuses, before jokingly suggesting recruiting the Daltons instead after all, their stupidity is quite legendary! A simple jest that will lead to many high jinks... The 57th adventure of Lucky Luke, and the Old West at its funniest!"

The Belgian author Morris (full name Maurice de Bevere) is best known for his humorous cowboy character, Lucky Luke. Morris started his career in 1945 in Le Moustique, creating various covers and illustrations. By the end of the 1940s, Morris met his colleagues Jijé, Franquin and Will. These four artists would be called "The Gang of 4", because they all worked in Jijé's studio at that time. The first episode of Lucky Luke, 'Arizona 1880', was published in L'Almanach Spirou 1947, and was later continued in Spirou. In his early 'Lucky Luke' comics, Morris was greatly inspired by animated cartoons à la Disney.
In 1949, Jijé took Morris and Franquin to the US, where Morris met Jack Davis and Harvey Kurtzman, whom he helped with their plans for Mad Magazine. He also met René Goscinny in the US. In 1955, Morris returned to Europe and collaborated with René Goscinny on 'Lucky Luke'. Goscinny wrote the scenarios of over 35 stories, which led to the great success of the series.
'Lucky Luke' is one of the best-sellers i

English Cinebook (UK) Edition = 2016

As the finale of a 9th Art* legend of highest renown - Morris' immense contribution of art, writing and inspiration to future generations should've been commemorated on the two remaining pages after the ending.

Nordmann did an excellent job examining and lampooning celebrity which even appropriately outed "Buffalo Bill" as not->so->slick as the public thought he was.

*(He even coined the term!)

Another fun story with some pretty interesting pop culture references thrown in with wild west legends and history.

Feels a bit drawn out, and the Theme of the Comic wasnt quiet my thing.
Lucky Luke is itselfe heavily inspired by the Legends, and Tropes made popular by Buffalo Bill, therefore the Story has great Potencial. Well I dont think it uses up that Potencial that well.
Lucky Luke is less a political Work, otherwhise we could have a great Story about Propaghanda, and Hero worship, but as a pure Comedy Adventure Novel, it touches the Subject just on a surface Level.

The Daltons enjoy the newfound Promi Status, after Buffalo Bill included a Dalton Section in his Show.
A slimy, but mostly loyal Manager tries to help them getting a piece of the Cake.

Obviously the Daltons have to struggle whit the newfound Popularity. Is it infighting, performance Anxiety, the complicated inner politcs of the Show Buisness, or the Fact everyone lost there Fear of them.

It is absurd to glorify Gangster like Billy the Kid, and popularity can destroy People, but whitout digging deeper into it, the Story feels poorly paced as a Result, and has nothing new to offer afted the first two thirds.

Bratři Daltonové poznávají slavný vzestup a opětovný pád do zapomnění.
