Leah #1

Delta Blood

Rate this book
She had always known what it was to be a woman, to want what women want. And now, on the night of New Orleans' most dazzling ball, a lifetime of smoldering passions drew her into the deepening twilight, into the bayous that echoed still with voodoo chants and drumbeats. Defying the savage embraces of highwaymen and aristocrats, through cruel terrain and the blazing furor of the Civil War, Leah would face all Fate had in store for her - to quench the wild longings that inflamed her, to quell the pounding of her aching heart.

Historical. Mostly history and sad drama. More stressful and drawn out than entertaining. Skipping the rest of the series.

Things I liked about this book:
The author paints a detailed picture of New Orleans at the time of the story, including significant historic events during Civil War time. I'm not a Civil War buff nor do I know a lot about the area, so I don't know how accurate they are.

The writing was decent, though sometimes the descriptions were weird in that I don't think the POV character should be describing her supple body as she's about to be raped. Really??

Things I didn't like about this book:
The drama in this book is out of control. I had to distance myself from the characters because so many bad things were happening to them. I counted: There were four almost-rape scenes. It was one thing after the other throughout the whole book. I feel like the author was just dumping trouble on this character to see how she could get out of it.

Personally, I don't like plots like this. I would rather there be a little more of a storyline instead of just watching someone get beat and tortured and put through every possible strife imaginable just to see how they come out at the end.

It's been so long since I've read this. When I was only reading Stephen King, and he was releasing horror faster than I could get my hands on it, my Mom pushed these books on me. Told me to READ them. I'm not a romance fan, so I gave her that *look*. Then read then, and really enjoyed them. I would like to reread them again.
