Little Miss Trouble just loves causing trouble for all the Mr. Men! But when she causes too much trouble at the beach one day, a mermaid decides to teach her a lesson.
Roger Hargreaves was a British cartoonist, illustrator and writer of children's books. He created the Mr. Men series, Little Miss series and Timbuctoo series, intended for young readers. The simple and humorous stories, with bold, brightly coloured illustrations, have sales of more than 85 million copies worldwide in 20 languages.
I haven't been shy about my hatred for Little Miss Trouble before. This bitch needs a serious attitude adjustment. This book, however, almost redeems her in a way.
The story goes that LMT (as she will be known for the remainder of this review) goes fishing or something, after treating people like shit for a bit (which is kind of her thing). Instead of nothing, which is all she deserves in life, she catches a mermaid. This mermaid wants absolutely none of her shit. She places a gypsy curse on LMT and warns that if she tries to cause trouble, she'll blow bubbles or something. Not entirely the harshest of punishments, but that would be pretty annoying. LMT refrains from causing any trouble only as long as it took for her to get back to land. Once there she goes back to being a bitch. Just as that hot mermaid said, she blows bubbles. This is enough for LMT to reconsider her entire life. She stops being trouble and starts building sandcastles. It's unclear if she always had that talent, or if the sexy mermaid gave her powers in exchange for stripping her of her identity.
This brings up further questions surrounding the Mr/Little Missiverse. Is LMT born trouble? Did someone look at her when she was a baby and say "Myep, I can see the cuntiness already". If so, was she destined to be a horrible festering sore of a person, or did she grow into the expectations? And even if neither of these are true, and she got the name afterwards when people noticed that she was a shitstain, does the fact that she builds sandcastles now change that? Is she Little Miss Sandcastle? That's a little more specific than the others in this world. Mr. Muddle isn't Mr. Eats A Letter Because He's Also An Idiot. Would they call her Little Miss Reformed, or something similar?
These questions aren't answered in this book, so I can't give it the full 5 stars.
I absolutely loved these Mr Men and Little Miss books. I remember getting them from my granny every week. There was so much from these simple characters, I remember filling my little bookshelf with all these books making sure I had got them all in right order. I wish I still had these books but somehow most of them got lost with many house moves or my mum gave the rest away. If I ever have kids, I will make sure they get the chance to experience these wonderful, colourful books.
This isn't my favorite of the Little Miss books, but considering we have read it OVER and OVER in the three days since we have had it, I'd venture to say it is probably one of CC's favorites. This is one of the newer titles, written by Adam Hargreaves to add to his Dad's series.
Another interesting new Little Miss book. This one is a favourite due to loving mermaids! I was worried the mermaid would not be good - and she's not terribly good but teaches Little Miss Trouble a lesson and we all learn what's right and wrong behavior.
"The trouble with Little Miss Trouble is that she is always causing trouble."
Moreover, the trouble she caused may lead to other troubles to other people. At first, Mom thought that Little Miss Trouble was innocent, she was just out of luck. But, if it were true, the title wouldn't be Little Miss Trouble, probably it would be Little Miss Unlucky (?). So, the bigger trouble with Little Miss Trouble is that she likes to cause trouble and enjoys it, too. In Seatown, she splashed other Little Miss and blamed another Little Miss, triggering a chaos between her friends. It was a glorious moment for Little Miss Trouble. Apparently this time, her naughtiness also triggered a trouble for herself. Little Miss Trouble fell into the sea when fishing. Before she could cause a trouble, something tugged on her fishing line and dragged her into the deep. A mermaid took her to the Mermaid Queen who was very angry with Little Miss Trouble's problematic attitude.

Little Miss Trouble gets her comeuppance from the Mermaid Queen when she causes trouble at the seaside.
Most readers know someone like Little Miss Trouble, someone who can’t pass up the opportunity to have a little fun at another person’s expense and then often either denies responsibility or blames it on somebody else. To make matters worse, this person rarely suffers any consequences for his/her actions.
In this story a person in a position of authority actually succeeds in stopping Little Miss Trouble from acting on her ill-intent. It reminded me of the folktale in which Baba Yaga punishes the rude lazy sister using a spell that caused a toad to fall from her mouth whenever she spoke.
When Little Miss Trouble is doing her usual thing at the seaside, she meets her karma. In the form of a mermaid. When the mermaid and Little Miss Trouble visit, that takes place underwater.
"There is someone who wishes to see you," said the mermaid to a flabbergasted Little Miss Trouble.
Uh-oh! Another delightfully funny tale follows, all wrapped up with a bow (as it were): the usual, unpredictable, Roger Hargreaves surprise ending.
Little Miss Trouble, always out to make trouble for everyone.. Everywhere she goes, she leaves chaos in her wake. When a mermaid decides to teach her a lesson, we can only hope the lesson is learned.
So, so poor - to much text for young children, an I’ll-defined moral lost in the waffle and a story that doesn’t grip or inspire. I’m starting to wonder how the Mr Men series ever caught on.
Day 16 of my Mr Men and Little Miss Advent Calendar is.....
.....Little Miss Trouble and the Mermaid! I'm not massively keen on this book to be honest. In my opinion Little Miss Trouble got off far too lightly for all the trouble she caused.
Added 16/12/24 :- I enjoyed this book much more this time around!!
